We discovered the spot on the way back from Tahoe and plan to come back. It's a small family owned restaurant and the food was fantastic. The kitchen is very accessible so you can literally hear and probably watch them (if you choose to look) prepare your food which I thought was pretty cool. There's no reheating here; all of the food is prepared on demand. My daughter and I each ordered a special combo: one Mongolian beef and one orange chicken. They were both delicious and the portions were very generous so we ended up taking some home. I strongly recommend supporting this restaurant. A new business owner, and a whole new book is being written at this restaurant. It used to be really special, a swan song for a top tier chef that had the best proteins, and ingredients and so much care. Iron Wok was special, then the pandemic hit, and the dream started to fade. Well the new owner has challenges, I had to send my Orange Chicken Lunch plate back. It simply was not edible for me. The chicken was rubbery, perhaps a fact of too much heat in the cooking process. It felt like I was eating a ligament, not a piece of white meat chicken. My wife's Kung Pao Shrimp was nothing great but edible. Service was acceptable, place was clean. But the food won't have me coming back. The fine art of great food is a gift, some have it, and some don't. read more

Have waited years to try this place (for no good reason) and I am so sad it took me so long to eat here! My son and I were craving chicken fried rice and orange chicken, so we called in an order (we also tried the pot stickers for good measure). Very basic order, but everything was delicious, hot, and ready for pick up in 20 mins. Perfect. We ordered take out so we could go home and watch football, but the inside is quaint and pretty much what you would expect for a small Chinese restaurant. Really delicious food. I made two crucial errors before eating here. I assumed that the reviews were inflated by the small town effect - big fish in a little pond. They're not - this place is 5 stars from me anywhere in the world. Then I assumed the portions would be small based on the price. They're not - we drastically over ordered and have tons of leftovers. Honestly I'm quite happy about that! The ambiance is basic, but the place is nice and clean. It's not fine dining, but it absolutely serves its purpose. Very good Chinese food! We ordered Broccoli Beef, Sesame Chicken, and Vegetable Chow Mein to go. I deducted half a star because I felt there should have been more beef in the order. Beef prices are high so I understand. All of it was delicious as usual and portions were large. It was enough food for 2 people with leftovers for another meal the next day! Parking wasn't an issue when we picked up because the restaurant across the street went out of business. I posted all of the current menus (as of January, 2025) so folks can see the variety of dishes and prices. We will try some other dishes the next time. Highly recommended! read more

Reviews given when reviews deserved. Unfortunately this isn't a good one. This place used to be great. Quality meats, always hot and most importantly, consistent. Since they've opened their new location, I believe they have two crews. Seems I keep getting the "B" crew at Placerville location whereas the "A" team is at the new Folsom spot. Over battered chicken and beef, over cooked meats, fried rice is not the same flavor as it used to be. The last 3 times have been very disappointing and unfortunately, there won't be a 4th time. Maybe at the new location with the A team but the Placerville spot has been very disappointing. read more

Visiting my son in Placerville and decided to order take out from here. We called our order in a half hour before closing and that was no big deal. Food is prepared to order. Take out only currently. We ordered chow mein, fried rice, hot and sour soup, broccoli beef, honey walnut prawns and general chicken. Also egg rolls. Owner was friendly as her and my son joked about Bay Area folks. Turns out long ago she had a location in SF. The portions were good and everything was enjoyable. 5 stars because there is nothing they could have done better. This is a must for Chinese food lovers. We had been reading comments from neighboring areas on line and had raving reviews. We decided to try it tonight. It will not disappoint you. Pot Stickers are home made to order as well as every order. He had the best Mongolian Beef special combination & I had the Kung Pao Prawns although it was delicious, a bit too spicy for me. If I could rate this restaurant zero stars I would. I ordered take out yesterday for my family from here with zero expectations and I was still disappointed. The sweet and sour chicken that was ordered turned out to be a mix of pork and beef, not chicken. Plus it was so dried out my kid couldnt chew the "pieces". No vegetables in the sweet and sour either? Soup was congealed upon serving to my family. My meal, orange chicken, was extremely chewy and had an odd stringy texture. The fried rice was dry and tasted old, as was the "vegeterian" egg rolls that were soaked in grease they were almost gelatin half way down in the package. We bought the rangoons and they were subpar at best. Why would be copious amounts of sugar and immatation crab and cream cheese be a thing? Above everything else, the potstickers that I ordered for my son had a pieces of plastic in them, and the pork inside was bright red, almost like it was dyed. Very off smelling like they were made with cinnamon. For a family of 5 to eat, it cost 125$ for extremely disappointing food. Eat at your own risk. We will NOT be back!! read more

I miss this place being in Elk Grove. I used to eat there so often. Then they moved, and I hadn't had their food for about five or six years. Today was my bday, and I wanted to travel up there and have my birthday meal like I used to. We drove about an Hour up to Placerville for my birthday lunch, and it tasted amazing, and I was so happy. Quality food, great people, and still is my favorite Chinese Food restaurant. Thank you for the great meal. We were heading back from Sly Park and had a craving for Chinese food. Based on ratings thought we would give Iron Wok a try. This place was so good! The one cook was so busy making fresh food as the orders poured in. It took a bit to get the food but boy oh boy it was worth the wait! The hot and sour soup tasty and has lots of yummy veggies. I ordered kung pao shrimp, so flavorful! The fried rice was delicious and the fried cream cheese won ton....mmm. The chow mein has thick noodles and you can taste the difference when cooked in a wok. I'd rate this somewhere between good and great, leaning on the great side. I ate there a lot while my husband was confined to The Pines for several weeks. Although slightly bland, it was really good quality and large portions, good service, I really liked it. You can always spice it up with chili oil or hot mustard and it's priced right. I could never eat it all and am delighted that we seem to have one opening here in Jackson where we are in dire need of a really good Chinese restaurant in Amador County. I tried Iron Wok for the first time last night on one of my many trips here from the Bay Area and, wow, it was so great! I ordered my "test dish" that I use for Chinese restaurants, Ma Po Tofu Pork, which was really well executed. Incredible flavors, nicely spicy and hot, and very generous portion. Checked this placed out while visiting Placerville and glad we did. The only negative is they only had take out. The owners were friendly and welcoming and gladly took our order very quick. We ordered and the food came out daily quickly. Drove home and when I got home the food was still warm, delicious and very good and would definitely saying tasty with flavor profile. The chicken in black bean sauce was the best. Very good flavor and great tasting. I just like the flavor of black bean sauce. The broccoli beef was good and also full of flavor. The shrimp fried was well cooked and again packed with flavor. Overall this is a great place for Chinese food in Placerville and definitely a place to eat if in the area and will definitely go back when I visit Placerville and in the mood for Chinese. I thought that my seven Asian in-laws could use a break from all the sandwiches and burgers on our Tahoe trip, so we had lunch today at Iron Wok in Placerville. We were so glad we did! The food here was easily as good or better than much of what we've had at Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, and came out quickly. The broccoli beef had lots of tender beef, and the orange chicken was tasty, with just the right amount of spice. We also had a dish with veggies and shrimp, and the shrimp were cooked to perfection - so tender and juicy! We were surprised that there was only one other diner there, though Wednesdays at lunch might be a slow time. If we lived nearby, Iron Wok would be a regular stop for us at dinner time - you should try it too, you'll be glad you did! We ordered beef chow fun, orange chicken, sweet sour pork, cashew chicken, bbq pork friend rice, broccoli in garlic sauce, and honey walnut prawns. Oh! And some eggrolls. We ate the eggrolls while driving the rest of the order back home. lol. The eggrolls were really good, which was promising. The chow fun was pretty good! I would definitely come back for that. The orange chicken and sweet sour pork could have been crispier, but the taste was good. Also may have lost the crispiness on the drive home. Bbq pork fried rice felt a little dry. Like they didn't put enough water in the rice when they cooked it. Otherwise, good. The honey walnut prawns and cashew chicken were a hit. I made myself sick from the cashew chicken because it was so good I couldn't stop eating it. I didn't care of the broccoli in garlic sauce. Service was quick. For that large of an order.
