The age-old adage of "don't judge a book by its cover" holds true for Iron Skillet. You may think it's "just a truck stop", and it is..., but it's worth stopping in for a meal. While on the highway we were ready for a bite to eat and, with limited options in the area, we "settled" on Iron Skillet. Our expectations were exceeded! They have a menu that holds its own and everything that comes from it is TASTY! Upon recommendation from our waitress, I had the Steak & Eggs and it was 100% the right choice. It was delicious (no A-1 sauce needed) and sizable. Speaking of our waitress, she was absolutely wonderful! Not only did she provide the aforementioned recommendation, but she was a delight to chat with. vast improvement even though they're still closed at night this is still one of the better iron skillets as far as quality goes except towards though later in the evening.. came in here this morning wanting a nice breakfast was greeted promptly when I sat down nice delicious pancakes added blueberries crunchy bacon.. good coffee..could see some newer employees and a whole lot better staff to which was a nice thing to see. most people had the satisfied look like they were content not aggravated I sometimes you could tell how decent place is a lot of times if you see customers that don't look too pleased.. blueberries were great inside the pancakes and on top bacon was very good definitely will stop here for breakfast more often again.. read more

This was my first time dining at an Iron Skillet. I don't know how busy they are, but on our visit on a recent Saturday evening, almost every table in the dining room was dirty. Most actually sat dirty during our whole visit too, which was a bit tacky, especially given the fact that there seemed to be lots of servers. They offer a full menu plus a hot buffet, salad bar, and dessert bar. The buffet menu indicated one of the night's offerings was meat loaf, one of my favorites, so I didn't even look at the rest of the menu and opted to go with the buffet. Apparently, the meat loaf was gone as it was no where to be found on the buffet. Instead I found BBQ ribs, pork roast, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, carrots, green beans, corn bread, and some other sides. The food was all hot and tasted fine, but I just wasn't wowed by any of it. The salad bar had been hit pretty hard and lots of things were empty. I tried the banana pudding, but it was awful. The banana had turned black and were mushy. I ended up going with the pumpkin pie for dessert. I definitely didn't get my money's worth with the buffet, and if I ever go back to another Iron Skillet, I'll just order off the menu. read more

We were looking for a place that served breakfast all day and this restaurant popped up in the search. As others have said it doesn't exactly overwhelm you with curbside appeal since it is attached to a truck stop gas station/convenience store and looks are similar to a 1980's Denny's. The menu is extensive and we opted for a custom omelet and Tradition Breakfast plate. The food was prepared well and wasn't overly greasy or salty as I was concerned it might be. Our waitress was friendly, efficient and attentive but not hovering. Prices are a bit higher at around $13 for the omelet and $12 for the breakfast plate but they both came with hash browns, two good-sized pieces of toast and the latter had two eggs with two sausage patties. We go to Glendale antiquing a couple of times per year. The first time we went, we went to the Whistle Stop. We thought it was overpriced for what it was. So the next time we went to The Iron Skillet. We were pleasantly surprised. The buffet is always fresh and offers many choices including soup, salad, fried chicken, and depending on the day, other offerings like ham, meatloaf, BBQ, mash potatoes, gravy, green beans, Mac and cheese, other veggies, and a variety of desserts including my favorite banana pudding. The fried chicken is juicy and big pieces. You also order from the menu breakfast or entrees including my husband's favorite chicken fried steak. It is one of the best truck stops I have been to. It is clean and the staff is friendly. So, checkout charming Glendale, and save some money, by going to the Iron Skillet. read more

This restaurant is ranked 5 stars by my 7 year old son (and me). It's rare to see a salad bar anymore. This restaurant seems to be primarily a truck stop but has a nice sit down restaurant with a variety of comfortable seating and very friendly staff. We had Rita as our waitress and she was tops and kept our drinks refilled well in advance of them running out. They have a soup and salad bar or also a hot food buffet in addition to a regular menu. My son loved the dessert bar and also being able to make his own taco at the hot bar (we opted for this place in lieu of a popular taco place at the next exit). Kids buffet with a drink was less than $5. Adult lunch buffet was just under $12. Restrooms were clean. I would return if we are ever passing through. Soups included chicken enchilada and chicken noodle. Hot bar had what looked like a carved prime rib, fried chicken, Salisbury steak, fajita steak, many vegetable options including rarely seen hominy. read more

This restaurant is inside the petrol station. Reminiscent of a Shoney's, except it's Shockingly good. Our expectations were blown out of the water! This place uses REAL butter on their toast!!!
