    Bread
    Mark T.

The meal starts with a ginormous complimentary slab of bread. The size of this thing is no joke, and could be described as a half loaf! The bread is warm and tastes fresh baked. The innards are play-doughy, but this is a case where I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. I ordered a chicken tender basket, with a side salad as my side (and requested 'surprise me' as the dressing). The chicken tenders appeared to be hand-battered/breaded, as opposed to using pre-made, frozen chicken. It came out fresh from the fryer, hot and crisp. While I have no complaints, these were on the simpler side, then again, I ordered chicken tenders, not a dégustation in a restaurant the Michelin man cares about. The side salad was nothing to write home about. It too was on the simpler side, containing lettuce, grape tomatoes, croutons, as well as shredded cheese and carrots. Out of left field came the pecan pie! This was served warm and felt homemade. Sweet, warm, gooey, with just the right amount of chocolate, if I recall correctly. It was also served à la mode with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. I'd also like to recognize the server, who was very friendly and welcoming. However, service could have been just a tad more attentive towards the second half of the meal. In terms of the vibe, this is a place with a good amount of character and history. I hope I am not off-base to say it is rustic and charming. Final verdict: Perhaps my mistake was going for something simple like fried chicken instead of something unique. With that, I had a good experience, but not necessarily one I'd call a destination.

This is a super cute place that I had heard some great things about. We now live a lot closer than before and I finally got to try it, and my husband got to come back for the first time in 15+ years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The standout is the atmosphere. Even before you walk in, you can feel how lovely the little spot is and how homey the restaurant will be. There is a train motif all over the restaurant, given it's immediately adjacent to the train tracks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was alright. We started with the fried green tomatoes and the fresh baked bread. I did love the tomatoes, and the bread wasn't half bad either. The loaf was surprisingly big. For our entrees we got the Reuben and the chef salad. This was pretty standard. I was disappointed with the fact that there were three little slices of meat on the sandwich. The thousand island is served on the side, which I thought was interesting. The chef salad was also fine, pretty average. I would love to try their desserts next time. We will definitely be back, I would love to bring my parents here to spend the day in Glendale and cap it with a nice hearty meal. Check them out!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Delicious food, awesome fresh pie, friendly and fast service, country cafe atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're traveling I65, "Historic Glendale" is just 2 miles west of I65, just south of Elizabethtown,KY. The Whistle Stop is a wonderful place to get off the road. We stopped here for lunch and arrived at 11:20 and got right in! This place is popular and gets busy fast. The only challenge is finding a parking spot, but just be prepared for a little walk. I had the teriyaki chicken with 2 sides. I got broccoli casserole and a side salad. My husband had the chicken strips which came with one side, and he got the onion rings. All was good. For dessert we shared a piece of coconut meringue pie. It was incredible!! They make their pies fresh daily, and our slice was still a little warm. Highly recommend this place as a comforting stop when you're in the area!

Upon a family friend's recommendation we stopped here Saturday afternoon as we were heading southbound to Middle Tennessee. Wait time was minimal. Excellent service -- she was extra friendly and very knowledgeable. We all three thoroughly enjoyed our homemade entrees. Chicken & Dumplings; Pork tenderloin special and the grilled chicken special dish. We brought home some homemade pie slices as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Situated in an historic older structure (former hardware store) that still retains much of the original walls & floors. Dark woods adorn the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Booth spaces are smaller but cozy and intimate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] During prime time serving hours expect a wait time to be seated. No reservations are available.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as you walk in the door. It just smells good[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I had the Whistle Stop Burger. It was delicious!!!! Cheryl was our server. She was as sweet as could be and very attentive. We also had Fried Green Tomato's. Best I have had since visiting Kentucky. You can tell their rolls are fresh baked and doughy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great food, great ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you

Food was AMAZING! Some of the best chicken I've had. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but I'm able to get at least 2 more meals out of it. Rolls were amazing. Great overall experience!

We got reservations for the Mother's Day buffet in advance. It's held in there upstairs part of the restaurant. Once we were able to get upstairs & confirm our reservation, we were seated, there were plenty of tables but the table we sat at was ever close to the other table next to us that getting in & out was ever tight & we kept trying to bump into each other. Our lovely server took our drink order, we asked for coffee but told there wasn't any upstairs. So we settled for there iced tea & soda options . The buffet was set up in the middle & they had staff there to serve. The protein options were meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast, sides were broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese, green beans & rolls. They also has side salad that the server got for you. It was a really nice buffet set up, that we didn't have to get up for drink refills, salad or dessert just got up for the main menu & our server kept the table clean by taking our plates. Everything was delicious & fulling that one plate was enough. We really enjoyed the relax environment. When it came time for dessert, we noticed other patrons had coffee, asked our server & she said someone did make some for upstairs. We finally got our coffees with dessert which was a nice ending to the meal.

Down home cooking at its finest . Unfortunately, they were out of meringue pies so didn't get to try that . It's just another reason to go back . Haley did a great job of taking care of us . Nice experience.

Now this review could have went a different direction but thankfully there's a happy ending. We were the first customers of the day here and we were seated promptly the server came over and quickly got our drink order then she says before I start taking your order we can't make anything that's fried. Well that's 90% of the menu and I came for the fried chicken. So we made it work and placed our order and then she returned and said the truck arrived and we can make the chicken. So we all changed our order and everything was delicious. They got some great fried chicken here. And their mashed potatoes and green beans are tasty too, everything was hot, fresh and tasted amazing.

There were six of us and we ordered five different items - 2 opted for the country fried chicken. Every meal was full of home cooked flavors and cooked to perfection. I had the daily special of soup and salad. The salad was fresh full of crisp lettuce, bacon, cheese, vegetables and toasty croutons. The bean soup was perfect and came with a large slice of fluffy sweet cornbread. My husband said the gravy was the best he has had in recent memory and paired with the chicken and mashed potatoes, he would definitely come back for. The bbq ribs fell off the bone and my brother in law loved them. The coconut cream pie had mile high meringue and was light and coconutty with a flaky crust. The chocolate cake was deep dark and chocolaty! The blackberry cobbler was hot and delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant for food and ambiance!!

We waited that 20 minutes to be seated and we had awesome service from Marissa D. She had a smile Everytime she came and checked on us and checked in the appropriate amount of times. We got a house salad to start. Done nicely with a nice amount of toppings. We ordered 10 boneless and 10 traditional wings with fries and queso. Boneless wings disappointed but the gochu sauce was amazing. Medium hot was also a good sauce. The fries were skinny but pretty good. They got cold fast so make sure you eat those first! I finished the dinner off with a blackberry vodka mule which just had blackberry puree at the bottom of cup which I didnt realize until I drank it all. But it was still an awesome mule. The family seemed to enjoy the food outside of the boneless wings. I forget what sauce the in laws got for their wings but it looked pretty amazing. I would come back for traditional wings and try more for sure!
