New and Hot! I love being first to review a stellar place! The restaurant at the Trail Hotel is off to a great start! The facility is beautiful and the menu has great depth. Schweety and I started with a bottle of a lovely Nebbiolo from a small but well curated wine list. For dinner, we ordered the burger and catfish options. Both were perfectly executed. The extra touches made the dishes. The mushrooms on the burger and the marinated veggies and aioli with the catfish were perfect. Sarah gave us great service along with the rest of the team. We look forward to many happy returns.

If you are looking for an upscale experience in Bardstown, you just found it. Amazing food and service. We split the 30 oz steak between four of us. We also had the grilled Caesar salad and oysters as well. Cocktails were on point too! Also, ask your server for the passcode to the speakeasy . Enjoy!

The atmosphere alone is worth the stop -- you can truly feel the history the moment you walk in, from the preserved architecture to the well-kept interior spaces that make the tavern feel both authentic and welcoming. The food is just as impressive. There's a delicious variety on the menu, with something for everyone, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. One of the highlights is the famous Jesse James Room, which adds a unique historical touch to your visit. Knowing the stories tied to the tavern while you dine really makes the experience stand out from anywhere else. Between the great food, fair prices, friendly service, and the incredible history behind the building, Talbott Tavern delivers on every level. Highly recommend for both locals and visitors looking for a true Bardstown experience!

This restaurant says established in 1779- wow! When you walk in, you are initially greeted with warm southern hospitality. There's a gift shop as you enter and you will find really cool stuff to look at. We were greeted by our sweet server who answered a lot of our questions to get a feel of the long history of this place. The structure was well preserved with some upgrades due to a fire years ago. Wonderful place! Our order- Kentucky burgoo and Kentucky brown. The server had me try the soup first which was so sweet of her. Husband ended up having the burgoo and we shared the Kentucky brown. The soup was very rich in flavor and I enjoyed a few spoons with crackers- very good! The Kentucky brown is a must-have dish from this place. The serving is good for two people. It is very savory and so comforting especially if you come hungry. We love the foods, hospitality, and the ambiance of this restaurant. If I remember it right, our server's name is Christine and she was originally from California and we had a sweet conversation. What a sweet lady!

The ambiance was wonderful for a date...dimly lit, seated off in a corner, and history all around. We were seated quickly and met by the friendliest server we had on this trip. We had the catfish and Cornish hen and both were wonderful! The house made chips that came with the catfish were better than could have been imagined. We wrapped thermal up with house made cheesecake and it didn't disappoint either! I would highly recommend Toogie's if you are in Bardstown!

This place really did not impress us. We came here for a joint anniversary dinner with my husband,…read moreand his aunt, uncle, and younger cousins. Hubby's family had been and had emphatically recommended it. This plus the great reviews and awesome looking pictures had us very excited. We started with the country ham hush puppies, the Caesar, and the mac and cheese. The salad and mac and cheese were alright, but we were really trying to mental gymnastics our way into believing that the hush puppies were great. For my entree, nothing was especially calling my name, so I settled on the gnocchi with added chicken. It was a very meh dish, and the chicken seemed like it was just added thoughtlessly, as opposed to pairing with the dish harmoniously. My husband got the catfish, which he said was fine. Aunt got the meatloaf, which was also fine but nothing to write home about either. The real winners were the little cousins who got burgers. These were simple but not bad by any means. The locale is really beautiful and definitely worthy of a special occasion. Love the two levels and the elevated tavern feel. The staff was great and super helpful and friendly. Overall, we likely won't be back, as we feel we can get a comparable experience elsewhere for the price, with likely better food. But go see for yourself! The menu looks like it changes, maybe we came at an off season.
