So I will give this place 5 stars despite a couple issues because the food was soooo good. Finding place to eat in Bardstown while on our bourbon trail vacation was a struggle and we made reservations here for 7 on a Sunday. Um, when I double checked where it was, I noticed the close at 7?!?? So we left as soon as we could and got there at 6:35 and yes,, they close at 7:00. But the one waiter there was fine with seating us and he did a good job and was so nice and calm. The place reminded mr of old school supper club type places your grandparents would take you too. Nothing splashy but cute. Upstairs there was a bar and seating area too. The food was soooo good. I got their chicken special and my husband got the steak special for the night. It was so much food but it was just good old cooking yet not just "plain". My husband said the mushrooms he got with the steak were easily the best he has ever had. We ate until we were going to burst. And it was getting late but the staff was not pushing us or anything (we tried to get done as quick as we could though for their sake). Staying in Bardstown for a couple nights and set up two dinner reservations. Toogie's was night number two and we can honestly say, for Bardstown, we went out with a bang! The ambiance was wonderful for a date...dimly lit, seated off in a corner, and history all around. We were seated quickly and met by the friendliest server we had on this trip. We had the catfish and Cornish hen and both were wonderful! The house made chips that came with the catfish were better than could have been imagined. We wrapped thermal up with house made cheesecake and it didn't disappoint either! I would highly recommend Toogie's if you are in Bardstown! read more

This place really did not impress us. We came here for a joint anniversary dinner with my husband, and his aunt, uncle, and younger cousins. Hubby's family had been and had emphatically recommended it. This plus the great reviews and awesome looking pictures had us very excited. We started with the country ham hush puppies, the Caesar, and the mac and cheese. The salad and mac and cheese were alright, but we were really trying to mental gymnastics our way into believing that the hush puppies were great. For my entree, nothing was especially calling my name, so I settled on the gnocchi with added chicken. It was a very meh dish, and the chicken seemed like it was just added thoughtlessly, as opposed to pairing with the dish harmoniously. My husband got the catfish, which he said was fine. Aunt got the meatloaf, which was also fine but nothing to write home about either. The real winners were the little cousins who got burgers. These were simple but not bad by any means. The locale is really beautiful and definitely worthy of a special occasion. Love the two levels and the elevated tavern feel. The staff was great and super helpful and friendly. Overall, we likely won't be back, as we feel we can get a comparable experience elsewhere for the price, with likely better food. But go see for yourself! This was simply not good. The food was so sub-par. Bison meatloaf was cold and it had a red pasta sauce on the bison- not good. The fried chicken was an over-battered over-cooked mess. The smash burger was just a tiny bit of meat on a bun. The burrata salad was maybe the best thing- tomatoes with arugula and burrata- with a balsamic/oil drizzle. The Caesar's salad was super salty. So salty the person that tried to eat it commented on the salt level like eight times! Service was good. They were attentive, but nothing could save this food. The building has some old school touches. I'd skip this one for sure. When you are there for dinner and the food is bad- it's a no go. read more

This place had definitely gone down hill. We usually stay at the motel next door and so it's so convenient to walk across the parking lot after a day of bourbon tasting. Service was slow, servers didn't know anything about the menu and food was subpar at best. My burger said it came with tomato, it wasn't a slice of tomato, it was cherry tomatoes cut in half. As soon as I took a bite, they fell out. The burger was obviously a frozen patty that was cooked WAY too long. We will not be back. Desert was presented as 2 different kinds of cheesecake with 2 different toppings. Each "piece" was maybe 2 bites worth and obviously frozen. I feel like they just cut up what was left and called it the special for $10 to get rid of it. We were looking for a new place to try for dinner in Bardstown as we traveled along the Bluegrass Parkway to Nashville. After realizing we might be out of luck since it was time for dinner to start on a Friday night, we called and the nicest fellow told us he would find us a table if we were there in 15 minutes. We made it and had a fabulous meal with top notch service from Amanda. Such a neat old building that has been tastefully updated but retains the charm of a stone building from long ago. I'd go back again for just drinks and appetizer. With it being right across from the Stephen Foster Story, I hope to plan another visit when their season opens up in the late spring/early summer. The food portions are good and a great value. The intimate setting is nice. The bummer is a couple of the tables near the window would be better is slightly turned. The space is small that the line up is designed to maximize the space while still providing a good distance between others. They do honor a military discount. Pleasant and welcoming staff. It was greatly appreciated that they worked the holiday for us to enjoy our time there. read more

Upscale lovely restaurant in Bardstown. We went here for brunch right before the Christmas week and enjoyed the brisket hash. The portion was very large, with plenty of brisket and potatoes. We sat at the bar, showed up just after six at 7:55, after we haven't received our meal, in over an hour We left. The place had hardly anybody in there. Apparently they couldn't make my wife's hamburger? I would advise anybody thinking about opening a restaurant, working at a restaurant, going to this restaurant, if you have issues, make sure you tell your customers in advance, during the hour, or the time It takes to make a hamburger. Toogie's serves up some of the best fried chicken I've ever had--crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The texture was spot-on, with a satisfying crunch on the outside and juicy meat inside which was perfectly hot. We also tried the salmon dip, which was creamy, scrumptious, and packed with flavor--definitely a standout starter. Everything was perfect! Our server Autumn was amazing! I'd been resisting dining at Toogie's Table. I am a local in Bardstown and had not heard many positive things since it first opened. However, I always saw a full parking lot. Since I had friends coming to visit, one of whom is a vegetarian, I decided to make the leap. Of the places I would take my friends in Bardstown this place had the most vegetarian options. We had a collection of things. Three appetizers, two desserts and one entrée. Not everyone was hungry for a full meal, but we wanted a nice place to visit, nibble and drink. Toogies was perfect. The deviled eggs as an appetizer were delicious. The hush puppies with country ham were delightful - I would've liked to have had a little more pimento cheese on them. And everyone at the table raved about the beer cheese, especially paired with the toasted pita bread they offered. The entrée was a New York strip with whole button mushrooms in a wine sauce. It was an excellent medium rare, rather large and very good. One person got an old-fashioned made with Monks Road small batch bourbon and it was one of the sweetest old-fashioned I've ever tasted. The two desserts we tried were the House Divided Cheesecake, which was a small piece of mixed berry cheesecake and a small piece of turtle cheesecake. Combined made a nice size shareable dessert. The other was a pie made with autumn, spices, pears, and pecans. It was unique and delicious. The entire night was delightful. Our server Autumn knew of the severe food allergy one person has and assured us she and the chef were aware and all was safe. Came into Toogie's Table after hearing good thing about them on Youtube and we are so glad we did. We had made a reservation and good thing we did because it was packed. We were quickly seated. We started talking to who had seated us (I believe manager if not someone higher up) and had a really good conversation. We ordered drinks and they even brought out out some complementary olives. They also brought out a Lamb Fat Candle and Toasted Sourdough Bread. As the Lamb Fat Candle melts you can dip the bread in it. Very cool. My Old Fashioned came out and it was very good. We had also ordered some appetizers. We went with the Spiced Meatballs and the Burrata & Broad Bean Panzanella both of which we very good. You can't go wrong with either. For my Entrée I ordered the Sunday Gravy. I'm a sucker for House made pasta. Within a few minute though I got some back news that they had run out of the Sunday Gravy. He's a tip for you come early so that doesn't happen but it's also a good thing to show they are making everything fresh. I ended up going with the Fried Chicken since I had heard good things about that too and come on who don't love fried chicken. Plus we are in Kentucky... The home of Fried Chicken! Our food came out within 15 minute and everything looked great. My Fried Chicken was amazing. Well seasoned batter and tender juicy chicken. Not over cooked at all. Would get this again for sure. Maybe it was a good thing they were out of the Sunday Gravy. Everyone else at our table really enjoyed their food too. Had a very nice dinner here, our appetizer was the Alderwood Smoked Salmon Dip which was great to start with. Maybe could've used some more stuff to dip in it but still good. I had the Bison Meatloaf which came with some delicious mashed potatoes and some veggies. The veggies definitely should've been sautéed or something but overall it was yummy. Service and atmosphere was fine, they recently renovated I believe so it was nice. We both had a pretty good time at Toogie's. read more

Great joint ... soft-reopwn after a remodel. Clean and bright room. Comfortable seating. Aimee & Connor were on my table faster than a duck on a june bug. Started with the fritters & fried green maters .... oh yeah! I enjoyed them & only wished there was more heat in both. But the two nicely set the stage for the main course: gnocchi ragu! I'm VERY particular about Italian food, being a glutton... so when I took my first fork-full of this Etruscan potato dumpling, I was pleased. They nailed the savory red sauce. I find that most ragus are just jars of marinara dumped into a skillet. This had zest and the fresh zucchini & carrots together with the tomato sauce hit the mark. Too full for dessert. This is probably one of the nicer restaurants in the area plus their bar menu is available 7 days a week. The dinner menu is available Wednesday through Saturday. Reservations can be made from their website which directs you to OpenTable. There's an upstairs and downstairs dining area which I don't see a benefit to sitting in either area except that the bar is upstairs. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by the friendly hostess who showed us to our table with the cocktail/wine menus. There's a nice variety of foods choice's available which are mostly uniquely spiced and flavored. We started with the zhug meatballs and also had the chicken & spaetzle along with the Turkey and Swiss sandwich. All the food ordered was flavorful and tasty. The portions varied as the meatball dish could have added an additional meatball or served in a smaller plate. Using a large plate with a small portion looked a little odd. The spaetzle entree was huge and way too much food for one person which could be a problem if you're staying in a hotel or inn without a refrigerator. Also I would have preferred the chicken and spaetzle to be separated as it was a large portion of all ingredients with the same flavor and taste with every forkful. The restaurant was comfortable, well lit and the tables were situated appropriately to provide enough privacy for conversations. The restaurant is attached to a motor lodge which would be very convenient if staying the night. There's plenty of parking in the outside lot although some spots are on a hill. The prices seemed to be in the high side but the food is prepared and flavorful. There's a nice list of wines, cocktails and bourbons available and Monday is half price wine bottles. read more

Housed in the historic Kurtz Restaurant and adjacent to the Bardstown Motor Inn off Stephen Foster Blvd. There are 2 floors, with the bar on the upper level. Interesting menu items and a unique mix of spices and flavors. Their full menu is available Thurs- Sat and they offer a a limited "bar menu" Sun- Wed. We were welcomed immediately when we arrived. I would have preferred a different plating allowing me to control the sauce. The peach bourbon butter was amazing. Cod was perfect, vegetables prepared very well. Mashed potatoes were okay, the taste was good, but there was a huge chunk of potato. The Mac & cheese was incredible. My husband had the pork chop, and said it was good. But he's had better. He raved about the gravy on the mashed potatoes. Overall a great experience. We did an early dinner meeting with a friend at 5:00 pm. The room we were seated in was very dark, we could have used a little more light. We dined at Toogie's Table twice while staying in Bardstown over the weekend. They have some unique dishes. We tried the salmon, pork chop and tavern burger. All were delicious. But we came back a second time to have the tavern burger again. Tina does a great job with the burgers. It was perfectly cooked with bacon jam, Muenster cheese, Dijonaise and peperonada! Not a good experience and we left after ordering an appetizer. Staff was confused and could not seem to get on track. Maybe it was just a bad day and we had some good feelings based off other reviews but this was a crash landing for sure. I'm not sure if something has changed in the last few months because their older reviews were good. Steak, mushrooms, Brisket, vegetables were lacking any flavor. Fricker's $9.99 steak special or even Golden Coral's steak is 10x better. The brisket needs to be smoked, not boiled with liquid smoke. The mashed potatoes, drinks and service was great. The complimentary cornbread would have been awesome if they would have drizzled some honey over it. For the price I don't think a little flavor is too much to ask. Hope they improve. read more
