Mammy's was the best meal I had in my 4 day visit to the area! We came pretty late at night after a long day of bourbon tasting in the area, and we were all starving. We sat at the bar because it was still pretty packed. The place was fun - the service was a bit silly in a good way. Great cocktails. Great ambiance and decor. My bourbon-grilled pork chops were fantastic. Good cornbread. Green beans were fantastic. The fried apples were just okay - a bit on the dry side. My friend's chicken and waffles looked amazing. Another friend's ribeye looked a bit overdone to me, but he seemed to like it. I wish the souvenir store was still open when we were there (it closed at 6pm) because I would have liked to bring home a trinket or shirt. Maybe upon next visit - because I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Bardstown. Make it a priority to stop in! read more

Stopped in on March 3rd for an early lunch with my lady friend and was seated promptly. Ambiance is trying hard to feel like a honky tonk, if maybe a little too hard. Music was too loud, and my lady friend even mentioned she has left this place before because of the music being too loud. I couldn't resist trying the KY Hot Brown as it had easily been a decade since I had one last. My lady friend struggled finding anything much on the menu which was gluten free. Even the crackers had gluten in them, so beware if you are in the GF lifestyle. The hot brown was deliciously massive and thankfully real turkey meat and not deli meat. First off, you have to come here. The bar is awesome. Next, you need to order the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese! I'm not kidding the pimento cheese is so good you can dip anything in it and you'll be keep going back for more. I also ordered the jalapeño bacon burger which was so good but I should've gotten the burger with the fried tomatoes and pimento cheese on it. They have a lot of bourbons too. Never had been out to Mammys before but had to check it out! This place has a lot of historical significance. I checked out their bar area as well had a sit down meal for dinner. I can absolutely see why people travel from all over! I'm not often in Bardstown, but this place really has a charm to it. It feels old but in the best possible way; Like a piece of history captured still in time. I'd had Bourbon Pork Chops, Brussel sprouts, and fried apples. Overall this was a very excellent experience! If you are looking for the best breakfast spot in the area this is it. Great casual family dining feel. Amazing friendly service that just elevated the entire experience. Order: Fried chicken eggs benedict with home fries. Exactly what you are hoping for.... but better. The biscuits were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Chicken was perfect. Crispy exterior and juicy on the inside and covered by a delicious hollandaise sauce. Perfectly crispy home fries. The country gravy on the side was flavorful and had chunks of sausage. Highlight of the meal was meeting Mammy herself. She just brought out a freshly baked black forest Bundt cake topped with chocolate ganache and cherry sauce... She let us be the first official taste testers.. It was so so good. Everything you wanted. Rich chocolate cake and ganache balanced with the tart cherries. Cute place and very clean. Went for breakfast and food was good. But my wife wasn't able to eat because her food had an ingredient in it that she was allergic to. When we confirmed with the waitress it did have that ingredient, the waitress shrugged and said sorry while walking away. It was a skillet so there was no picking around anything. Never offered to remake or anything. She did ask if we wanted a box to take it home. Unimpressed with the lack of customer service. We stopped by Mammy's Kitchen while visiting from out of town after seeing all the great reviews. We really enjoyed the cozy, country-style atmosphere inside the restaurant - you can tell it must've been quite the spot back in the day! It could use a little refresh, though, or at least some tidying up at the front to move the supplies and boxes out of sight when you first walk in. The gift shop was super cute, and our food didn't disappoint -- we ordered burgers and fries, and I added a side of green beans. Everything tasted pretty good overall. read more

A friend recommended this place as he ate here before, and it was wonderful. My husband got the KY Hot Brown which was amazing! Our friends got the KY Mafia Burger and grilled chicken breast which also was delicious ! Only slightly disappointed in the Chicken fried steak as it was not house made, but from a box, still good. The service was entertaining as my husband tends to be sarcastic and gives people a hard time, which the server replied, " Why are you here?!" Waitress was very nice, but we never got to try the food. We ordered drinks and one meal to split (just needed something to hold us over for a bit), waited at least 45 minutes (I know that timing from a text I had sent after already waiting a while) We think it was close to an hour, but will go with 45 minutes to be conservative. We still didn't have food. We had other reservations and a schedule to stick to. We asked for the check as we didn't have time to keep waiting. The waitress explained we'd need to pay for the meal. We said "not a problem... we just need to go." We live too far away to travel with it, but offered maybe they could box it up for one of the guests sitting near us. The waitress was still nice, but Mammy (the owner according to our waitress) appeared from the back, and was horrible. She literally yelled at us and said "We don't do that!" Then proceeded to yell that we weren't at a McDonald's and that we would wait longer than 45 minutes at Chick-fil-a." She was very rude and hateful. I kept telling her we were paying for the food, we just couldn't stay to eat it. Didn't matter. She kept yelling. We were trying to just pay and head out (would have had zero reason to leave a review), but she made sure to make a big scene (warrants a review). We paid, even left a tip for the waitress. I don't know what Mammy's problem is... I have no idea why she cares what we do with food we paid for. I hear the food is good. Unfortunately we don't know. Leave PLENTY of time though... and extra hour or so over what you expect. We got there a little before 2:00... not a terribly busy time for most restaurants. I will also add.... As we waited, we heard one bartender announce she was pouring herself a beer and "getting the f$%# out of here." She proceeded to pour a large to-go cup with beer, clocked out, and left. Hubby and I were in Kentucky for a motorcycle event and we stayed in Bardstown known for distilleries and the famous Hot Brown named for the Brown hotel in Louisville. Accordion the locals the best Hot Brown around town (see what I did there!) was at Mammy's. Since we've been eating hearty over the last few days we decided to split a Hot brown. Great decision because the portion size is pretty large. Think Texas toast with shaved turkey, ham covered with a secret hot brown sauce and topped with tomato and bacon! The flavor combinations were delicious although the ham was a tad bit salty. So I'd recommend having some water afterwards. For dessert we had the delicious lemon meringue pie that had the right amount of tartness and wasn't too sweet. Well done! Our waitress was friendly and answered our questions about meal choices with ease. The decor was reminiscent of an old country store with trendy touches of neon here and there. If you're in town I'd recommend visiting Mammy's in the bourbon capital of the world. read more

We finally got to eat at Mammy's after trying on three different trips to Kentucky. The bourbon selection was excellent and well priced. The food is exactly what you'd expect. Fine dining? No. Absolutely delicious? Absolutely yes. Abby and Karis always take great care of us at the bar and was attentive to everything we needed, even before we could ask. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays which made the ambiance so so fun. Plus I had a hard time not ringing the "ring for drinks" bell all night. The country ham was so tough that I couldn't even cut it with a steak knife, much less chew it. The biscuit was good but definitely not worth $5 for only one biscuit even if it was homemade. During our visit to Kentucky, we wanted some good old Kentucky soul food and were directed to Mammy's. The place is pretty big with its own gift shop and bar in the back. There's a replica of the owner's childhood porch and the menus are a charming newspaper style. Service was quite friendly and accommodating. The young lady was attentive to our needs and even split the pie for us without asking. The food was pretty solid, with portions being very large especially the Hot Brown. The highlight for us was the fried pickles, we could've kept going on those! The pie was good but got a little too sweet for our liking after a while. Every bar in Bardstown is WAY TOO LOUD! Loud does not mean better, it simply means loud. The food was good, but not great. My steak was done well, but the staff did not even ask how I wanted it done. The steak was tasty, but very gristly and difficult to cut, so a poor quality cut of meat. Possibly one of worst bars to watch a football game in as the bright lights above the many TV screens CANNOT be turned down and another set of ceiling lights points right at the screens so you get a bright reflection right back at the viewer. Staff seemed knowledgeable about bourbon, but often seemed to have a snooty attitude when asked questions. Asked price of one particular bourbon on 2 different nights and was quoted 2 different prices! Reputation at other bars is that Mammy's is a great tourist trap for high prices, but the food is good most times. read more

Coming to Kentucky for the weekend (my 1st time) and asking the locals "where should we eat"? Everyone says Mammy's is the place to go. So with that and everyone having a unanimous opinion we decided to go. Let's just say from the moment we arrived we weren't impressed. Walking thru the bar to the dining hall we were directed by the waitress and said we could sit at the serving station bar for dinner. 12 minutes later we head to the front desk to put our names on the waitlist and mentioned that we've been waiting for anyone to take our order and were told "we're really stressed" and couldn't help us. What kind of answer is that from not one but several of the staff?! Would have loved to take the time to enjoy some down home cooking, but when your management / staff can't accommodate a 2 top it's really disappointing to see in this economy to turn away customers. read more
