    House salad with ranch dressing.
    Christina W.

Nice local restaurant with a cowboy theme. Dined with some friends. We all ordered either the NY Strip steak or Pork Chops. The NY Strip Steak was 12 oz and served with choice of two sides. I chose the house salad with ranch dressing and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were slightly undercooked, not crunchy. So I ate some of hubby's loaded baked potato. After you place your order, they bring out the bread basket. These are homemade yeast rolls that melt in your mouth. After a day on the bourbon trail we just ordered water to drink. Appetizers: fried pickles with spicy ranch dressing is very good and enough to share; JT's Onion Blossom is just like a bloomin onion from that Australian restaurant.

Good bacon cheeseburger with very decent mac & cheese

Overall, this was pretty good. I got a new peddlers mall booth next to it and so last week, knowing that I would probably want to try this place I went ahead and signed up for their club. I got a free appetizer to begin with. I chose the mozzarella sticks and they were very large. The cheese was very soft and gooey and taste great , they had grated Parmesan on them. That was also delicious. The marinara dip was very good and not too chunky a good size cup of it. I got a bacon cheeseburger well done and it was still juicy even though I got it done and there was very little gristle the bacon was only mediocre, but it was passable, I paid the dollar extra to upgrade my side mac & cheese and it was also at least B+. It was pretty good. It wasn't baked or didn't have any big chunks of cheese in it, but it had a good sauce with perfectly cooked pasta and very buttery. nice flavor I enjoyed the two rolls. The waitress brought me. I am glad they have regular butter or margarine not that sweet stuff like Texas roadhouse Also had more chew and had a good flavor to them very satisfying. I just got water but they do have bonus points for that was very friendly and efficient brought everything very quickly and brought me to go boxes that fit my leftovers perfectly this place look clean, not all crowded nice and wide open and spacious. I'm sure I will want to come back again when I come to check on my peddlers booth.

    Steak and shrimp.

Service at this spot was damn good. Zachary took care of me at the bar. He is an ideal server. Timing was perfect checked back often kept the tea full. Food was not great. My first steak was way over cooked. The recook was still over done. Can't say I would blame the cook. Seems like the thickness of the cut is inconsistent, one half of the steak was Med to Med. Well the other thick part was Med Rare. The shrimp were pathetically small.

Crispy, well seasoned, tangy. Perfect 10/10

We were just passing through and decided to stop to eat. I have to be honest I was thinking it was going to be a average steak place and I did not have high expectations. We came in and saw they had fried green tomatoes as a special. We both ordered steaks and the FGT as an appetizer. The FGT were fantastic, crispy, well seasoned 9.5/10 and with the sauce easily 10/10. The steaks came out and I had ordered medium which is hard for a thinner steak. It was perfectly cooked and super tender. The wait staff was friendly and on their game. I would rate the Overall experience as 9/10 and would eat there again.

Waitress was nice but didn't know a lot of the answers to the questions we had on certain bourbons that they had at Bardstown, which I thought was strange since she did work there. Foodwise, the menu changes and is not huge - I was trying to avoid spicy or fried and there weren't many options for me. The side caesar was cute but I prefer it more chopped, and the chili was just ok. The best thing was the cheesecake at the end for sure, do not pass on that. The espresso martini was good but on the lighter side, definitely more a iced coffee martini. Chicken sandwich was good and they did substitute if you don't like pimento.

The burger was good size. The Brussels sprouts were pretty good but a little too much balsamic glaze for us. The old fashion whisky was from the barrel and it was excellent. The atmosphere alone is worth the stop -- you can truly feel the history the moment you walk in, from the preserved architecture to the well-kept interior spaces that make the tavern feel both authentic and welcoming. The food is just as impressive. There's a delicious variety on the menu, with something for everyone, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. One of the highlights is the famous Jesse James Room, which adds a unique historical touch to your visit. Knowing the stories tied to the tavern while you dine really makes the experience stand out from anywhere else. Between the great food, fair prices, friendly service, and the incredible history behind the building, Talbott Tavern delivers on every level. Highly recommend for both locals and visitors looking for a true Bardstown experience!

We were greeted by our sweet server who answered a lot of our questions to get a feel of the long history of this place. The structure was well preserved with some upgrades due to a fire years ago. Wonderful place! Our order- Kentucky burgoo and Kentucky brown. The server had me try the soup first which was so sweet of her. Husband ended up having the burgoo and we shared the Kentucky brown. The soup was very rich in flavor and I enjoyed a few spoons with crackers- very good! The Kentucky brown is a must-have dish from this place. The serving is good for two people. It is very savory and so comforting especially if you come hungry. We love the foods, hospitality, and the ambiance of this restaurant. If I remember it right, our server's name is Christine and she was originally from California and we had a sweet conversation. What a sweet lady!

Hubby's family had been and had emphatically recommended it. This plus the great reviews and awesome looking pictures had us very excited. We started with the country ham hush puppies, the Caesar, and the mac and cheese. The salad and mac and cheese were alright, but we were really trying to mental gymnastics our way into believing that the hush puppies were great. For my entree, nothing was especially calling my name, so I settled on the gnocchi with added chicken. It was a very meh dish, and the chicken seemed like it was just added thoughtlessly, as opposed to pairing with the dish harmoniously. My husband got the catfish, which he said was fine. Aunt got the meatloaf, which was also fine but nothing to write home about either. The real winners were the little cousins who got burgers. These were simple but not bad by any means. The locale is really beautiful and definitely worthy of a special occasion. Love the two levels and the elevated tavern feel. The staff was great and super helpful and friendly. Overall, we likely won't be back, as we feel we can get a comparable experience elsewhere for the price, with likely better food. But go see for yourself! The menu looks like it changes, maybe we came at an off season.
