Meh. Not very impressed. Food tasted like it was frozen stuff that was just heated up. The chicken and waffles were a disappointment because the waffle was super sweet before even adding syrup and the chicken was dry and fake tasting (a-la McDonald's or a school lunch). Cheese steak sandwich and fries were okay. We just got a normal iced coffee and a black hot coffee but they were good! Our waitress was polite. While we were there, I noticed people ordering a lot of complicated coffees and it looked like they were made very well with fresh espresso and frothed milk! Cow Down Full-service restaurant, café, and drive-thru located just outside of Columbia, KY, which is less than an hour from Cave City, where we were coming from. We stopped in to have a bite while en route to Shenandoah, and it was a pleasant experience. The Good: *Large menu that has something for every dietary restriction. *Free WiFi, which is clutch in these remote areas. *Outdoor dining area *Located in the same area as a convenience store and gas station so one can load up on snackies and petrol without needing a separate trip. *Drive-thru for those on the go that features their full lineup of drinks, as well as sandwiches and bowls. *Price to portion size ratio is very not bad The Meh: *Service was just whatever. Not friendly but not rude. Just is. *Chicken and waffle slider was just OK. The waffles seemed a bit stale and premade, and the chicken was reheated frozen chicken. But for $8, you pretty much get your value here. The Ugly: *$1 oatmilk tax, which is one of my pet peeves. Fan-freakin-tastic! The coffee's here are amazing! While visiting LWC nearby we ate here for all of our breakfasts & lunches. Being from the coast in NC we are used to healthy options when eating out & this place was a GREAT surprise in rural KY! They have plenty of non dairy options and Vegetarian food options as well. The frozen coffee drink I had was delicious! The staff was nice but the drive thru wait was 15+ minutes. I believe 10 of that was when I was the only one at the window. I give them some grace because I understand it's a small business. Prices were more expensive than Starbucks but I'd rather spend this locally. I also had a decently difficult time finding it. I'm always wanting to support local, so I decided to try this place out. It seems to primarily be a specialty coffee joint, and I can't comment on that part since I don't drink coffee. My companion and I dined in. The food was cooked to order. I am pretty sure my omelet was made in an omelet maker which is fine except that part of it got too done. My companion for a breakfast wrap which was ginormous; unfortunately the avocado they put on it was well past its best by date and was a bit brown and very sour. The atmosphere is Jesus music, and I guess if that's your thing, fine. I realize a private business can play whatever they want to, but I don't like someone's religion being shoved down my throat (or, in this case, pumped in my ears). We stopped here on a whim while road tripping and we were not disappointed. A previous review stated to not let the location fool you .. I agree. It is attached to a gas station, but not part of the mini market. We were greeted politely when we walked in. The food was good. I had the brunch cheeseburger. The bun was very soft, and the proteins were cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the grilled chicken melt and she said it was very flavorful. There was a steady flow of people through there while we ate. If locals eat someplace frequently then you know it must be good! Overall, I recommend this place. read more

The KINDEST service. I cannot tell you the last time we had this great of service. The coffee and food was perfect. They really take a simple potato and make fun and different sides with it (not a typical breakfast potato - in a GREAT way). Portions were great and I think the drive through is really handy. I sat at a table that had a sign on it with the name of a local and their favourite order - how special to this place and how cute!!! Inside was clean. Not too busy, got the food quickly! Happened by here and what a happy experience. We were hungry for breakfast and not interested in a chain. The menu offered many options both savory and sweet. I had the enchiladas with green sauce and eggs the portions were huge and there was no way I could finish the whole thing. The sauce was very tasty without being spicy hot. My husband had the southern wrap, it was huge! Filled and grilled and came with a side of hashbrowns that were done on a waffle iron, very cute presentation. Our family really enjoys this spot! Kuddos to the owners...there was room for a cool coffee joint in Columbia, and Happy Cow did not disappoint. I am not a coffee snob so I don't have a very critical review to offer of the drinks, but I WILL say I have never had a bad one, and I like to explore the menu and try something new nearly every time. The affogato is a great treat :) There was one visit where half of us went to play Jenga while the other half stepped aside, and someone who had just started shift got to work clearing the table thinking it was emptied...Thankfully she wasn't too embarrassed so that we all got a good laugh out of it PLUS they actually replaced all of our drinks and so we ended up with the better end of the bargain after all and really did enjoy the humor of the situation which she may have thought was a setup XD Aside from that particular story, which I hope comes across as a compliment to their customer service, I have only strings of stories of great chats with the staff and good customer service. Some of our favorites are the cinnamon rolls, tortellinI, and avocado hoagie to eat and iced coffee with hazelnut, frozen mocha, and affogato for coffee/espresso treats.
