2 Stars for average. Doing a Mobile brewery tour. This was our first stop. Nothing special about their beers. Food experience was mixed. Most thought the food was good. The reuben should be on the rye bread not thick sourdough. The flour tortillas were cold on the fish tacos. Must have overwhelmed the kitchen with 10 orders. There was almost a 30 minute delay between when the first order came out and the last. Nice restored building. But why are all the windows covered with thick drapes? Let the sunlight in. All the negatives can be addressed. Expect beers to improve as they get more experience. read more

Three words: Order Cheese Bread. It hit the spot. Wow - so good (the garlic sauce!!). This brewery has delicious beer (my favorite was the Kolsch), and the space is awesome - I think it's in an old church (?). Highly recommend. read more

We had the fish and chips and the shaved beef and pepper sandwich. Both were very fresh and well done. Always a treat!

Let me preempt the rest of the review by saying there are absolutely some things about Iron Hand that are 5 star. While somethings have improved and others haven't I do recommend going here. But there are caveats to that which will be mentioned below. Iron Hand has craft beer and food in an old church in the awesome DeTonti area of Mobile. Great location and great building. There is a full bar inside and a variety of table games you can bring to your table. They make their own ginger ale and some tonics to be used in cocktails. Lets start with the beer. Don't let the paper menu fool you, look at the TV above the bar as it has an up to date menu of beers on tap. They usually serve 2ish of theirs and a handful of guest taps. The beer does vary wildly based on the style. Those beer styles that need hops tend to suffer here while the more malty ones are definitely their forte. That being said they usually offset their in house beer's weakness with their guest taps. Overall the beer is nice, but not a reason to stop. The food is next and is the biggest roller coaster here. The in house made sausage, Caeser, corned beef, and bread are A+. Most dishes with those included are outstanding. But then there are other things that bafflingly have little to no salt or spice. The tacos (really an unwrapped burrito), chili, quesadilla, salsa, mash, peas, and Japanese curry are all missing essential flavor/heat. For these dishes extra salt/hot sauce is required as they are very bland. The main dishes can come out slowly but you shouldn't be in a hurry dining somewhere like this to begin with. Just a warning, while usually not a very loud place it can get that way when crowded as there is little to no acoustic dampening. I reiterate I recommend Iron Hand. This review is just a few guidelines on what to look for. They have been adjusting the menu and some things have been adjusted. If they got the seasoning down and ramped up the beer they'd be downright outstanding. read more

Coastal Alabama is not known as a hotbed of craft brewing. So it was nice to find a spot in Mobile where beer is brewed and food is served. Our server was charming and efficient; there were more than just a couple of in-house brewed beers on hand; and the food was tasty. A lot of attention to detail was paid to remodeling the interior of this building, resulting in a spacious, comfortable place to tip a few. read more

First time here for brunch with a friend. We ordered the Sunday Roast and French toast along with a beermosa and mimosa. The meat was cooked well, and the gravy was flavorful. The roasted vegetables were well cooked. The French toast was slightly undercooked, but flavorful. Overall pretty good read more

Wow!!!! We came in on a Friday night after wanting to try for a couple of weeks. Cheese bread was a perfect starter. The fish and chips were AMAZING!!!! Not too salty, not greasy, and just perfect. The fries were good and solid, and agin not too salty. My boyfriend got the Shepherds pie, and was super happy with it. They make their own bread and sausage, and their corned beef is done in house. The Key Lime Pie was perfect, and not too sweet. We tried the three of their beers they had on tap, and all were well flavored and appropriate to their type. The porter especially was soo good. I look forward to coming back here, and recommend you visit as well. read more

Had a good time there Friday August 16. Food was okay. The black bean burger had a good consistency but needed more flavor, maybe some garlic or bell pepper. Fish and chips were good. We are not big fans of many craft beers. Usually too bitter and too dark: that is the case here. I'd add a couple domestics for people like us. Kitchen was a little slow. There was live entertainment by Cat Grizzle which was great. Wow, what a voice she has . I can't wait to see her again. Hope she becomes a regular feature. read more

Really good employees and customer service but I overheard the boss (Ben) accusing employees of doing things they didn't do and showing disorderly conduct while he is supposed to be a leader. The food was amazing though, would go back 100%. read more

I never leave bad reviews but think this place has potential. It was pretty slow maybe 10-15 people in the whole place. The bar tender was SLOW, not super friendly like most bartenders I'm use to. I also had to ask for every single thing even though there were only 2 other people at the bar. She was not attentive at all and lost her self and the establishment money by not asking if we wanted more beer. The spinach dip was good. Small serving for an app and wasn't crazy about the wheat pita. My friend wasn't crazy about the bread used for burger bun. The brat needed something else, maybe some sautéed onions and peppers? The red potatoes were great. Hope to try this place again and change my mind. Could have used some radio music a little louder. read more

Iron Hand Brewing is a great find. I have eaten here 3 times in the last couple weeks. The owners Rebecca and Ben are awesome. Ben makes everything from scratch. The Reuben...seriously the best I've ever had. They brine their own corned beef, make the bread fresh and make their own sauerkraut. It tastes fresh and not overly salty and really tasty. We strolled in for lunch and got the Fish and Chips. Again, fresh, not salty and had a delicious taste. They make the sauces that go with it from scratch. Its only available on Fridays which is a bummer. Last week I got the Corned beef dinner. Again...delicious! The cabbage was bright and crisp, the potatoes were not a boiled mess but rather roasted in rosemary...and again..the Corned Beef...hand made and doesn't taste like a pile of chemicals. I love their Beer too. They have an option for a small beer which is great if you don't want a full pint. Great flavor. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more
