We love this place close to home, priced well and food tastes great. I usually get the general tso's chicken combo with fried rice and egg roll. My wife gets the chicken and broccoli and my oldest son loves it as well. Food has always been fresh and ready quickly. If I am out of town for work my boys say oh yeah we get to have Chinese. I love the crab Ragoon and my wife likes the steamed dumplings for appetizers. The shrimp egg rolls are also really good. This in my opinion is the best Chinese place in Lexington. The Iron Chef is a favorite lunch delivery choice at my wife's former place of work. Recently we sampled their takeout and chose a couple of lunch specials (which are a terrific value). We ordered the $5.00 Orange Chicken and the $4.50 Chicken with Cashews. Both were generous portions and each came with Saffron Fried Rice and your choice of Soup or an Egg Roll (we chose the egg roll). The Orange Chicken was tender with a flavorful sauce. The chicken itself was breaded and of a higher quality than that offered by many of the local Chinese restaurants. The chicken in the Cashew dish was non-breaded and simply cubed, and for me a bit bland. The vegetables in this dish were plentiful and appetizing, but I prefer the breaded chicken so I won't be ordering this dish again. I give the orange chicken a rating of 5 and the cashew chicken a rating of 3, so overall I'm awarding them a 4. The fried rice was also very good as were the egg rolls. If you're looking for traditional Chinese takeout this place is a must! To save a buck take advantage of the lunch special! read more

Finally , we found a good Chinese takeout near the house. Everything we picked from the Mongolian beef to the beef lo me in had great flavor and cooked just right. We were Leary about the pork fried rice and shrimp fried rice but it was so good! The egg rolls were not greasy and were nicely baked. My husband ordered the hot and sour soup and he really enjoyed the flavor a. The large fed him for two days. I ordered the wonton soup and it was the small size and it too fed me for two days, the portion sizes are big and easy to share smaller sizes if you want to keep cost down. We like leftovers so the portions are nice for later meals. Definitely recommend this place and will order from there again. read more

Ordered General's Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein. I typically purchase two items when trying new Chinese in case one isn't to my liking, cause you know Chinese does vary a little bit... I ate the egg roll first. It was ok, not the worst, not the best. It was cooked just the right amount, wasn't greasy, and the big thing that I look for... it didn't leave a foul aftertaste, which I very much appreciated. If given the choice, I probably wouldn't opt for another in the future. Generals Chicken: The broccoli garnish wasn't cooed enough for me, no big deal. The Chicken was good, had some chewy parts... The sauce had a very good flavor. It wasn't overly spicy but certainly not bland. The rice was undercooked, had some crunchy ones, and without the sauce from the chicken mixed in, would have been pretty bland. All in all, I would eat the chicken again. Upon opening the Chicken Lo Mein, I swear it smelled like an Italian Restaurant, more specifically, like a calzone. How this is, I do not know, lol!! But that is the exact smell that it had. The noodles were the right consistency, not mushy, not under cooked. The taste of the lo mein itself was not bad, but it was not anything exceptional either. And although it wasn't dripping in oils, it did leave an aftertaste, not necessarily of oil, but something... just there, that didn't work for me. I much preferred the Lo Mein mixed with the General's Chicken sauce, which eliminated that aftertaste for me. I had the food delivered to my hotel room. Delivery was very fast, silverware included. Driver was very friendly, employee taking my order on the phone very friendly. I spent about 18 dollars for the food which about average for the amount and quality that I got. Always great food! I really like the orange chicken here. The lady who usually takes the orders is very nice. There is a little area to eat there but obviously takeout is the more popular choice. There is no restroom if you decide to eat there. They are pretty quick to get your order out. This is the closest place to my house for Chinese cuisine and I think it's great! It is clean as well! Iron Chef is minutes from both my old apartment off of Palumbo and my new place in the Brighton area and has been my go to Chinese take out place for several years. There are a couple others not much further away, and they're not bad, but I'll stick with Iron Chef. Service is friendly, the basic Chinese menu items are consistently top notch, and portions are huge. Unless I'm just famished, there's always enough left over for tomorrow's lunch or at least a nice snack. I've had 4 or 5 different main menu items but would feel comfortable ordering just about anything. The egg rolls aren't standout, but they're good. I like a firm texture or bite to my bbq spare ribs rather than the "fall off the bone" some places tout, so IC's spare rib appetizer suits me fine. One of my top favorite Chinese places in Lexington! It may look like a hole in the wall but that's what makes it great. The staff are always very friendly. If you sit down and eat-in, your portions are usually enormous for the same price as delivery. I've never had a single issue with their food and they often remember my order after hearing my voice. Out of all the Chinese take-out restaurants, this is probably the best. It tastes much fresher than other restaurants with similar menus and it is cooked very quickly. I usually get the vegetable lo mein and my husband gets the shrimp fried rice. This is my favorite Chinese take-out/delivery place in Lexington. They're always quick and delicious! Some of our favorites are: crab rangoon, egg drop soup, vegetable lo mein, and kung pow chicken. They're great about substitutions with tofu or removing vegetables you don't like. I can order and have it at my door piping hot in 20 minutes. Went there for lunch the other day. Got a boneless spareribs combo and egg roll. The egg roll was actually fried in peanut oil which is something that I missed since I left NY. The peanut oil makes a huge taste difference. The boneless ribs were very tasty as well and mostly meat. A lot of other take out places pack the boneless ribs with a lot of gristle and fat, which totally kills the enjoyment. My only suggestion would be a add a bit more soy sauce to the fried rice as it is a bit bland for my personal taste, but overall the quality of everything I got was great. read more

I had just moved into a new place and this is the nearest Chinese restaurant so I stopped to get a menu on my way back to my old place to pick up some essentials. When I get back I decided to order for delivery which I have never done with Chinese. I got hot and sour soup and general Taos chicken. The best thing was the speed of the delivery, hence the two stars. The hot and sour soup was neither hot, nor sour, just bland. The general tso's chicken was sweet, sweet, sweet. There was a lot of chicken for leftovers, but at least one third got tossed because it was too sweet to be considered general tso's chicken. About 2 pieces of broccoli was included with the chicken. I judge Chinese places by these two menu items and this place fell way short. I had high hopes and I am very disappointed. read more

From my experience, Iron Chef has the best Chinese take-out in the Bluegrass area. The quality of the food reminds me of the quality you'd get at a more expensive Chinese restaurant. They're also one of the few places that I know of in the whole Bluegrass area that actually knows how to make Mongolian Beef--onions and beef with a sweet spicy sauce and NOT carrots, celery and other garbage just about every other place in the area puts in it. They also give HUGE portions and their prices are comparable to other Chinese take-out places in the area. I look forward to trying other items on their menu.
