Food is good. The main associate working front is very rude and quite mean. She doesn't listen to customers but she tells the customers what to order. Also she always maximizes the prices. If you order the same thing from this lady the costs is always $20-$30 more than if you are lucky enough to place order with another associate. So food ok but little high for Chinese. I adore good Chinese food when it's fresh, crispy, and flavorful. Shanghai Bistro is each of those things and is now (after three visits) my favorite Chinese place in Lexington. I've had the Gen Tso chicken twice and the Orange Peel Chicken twice. Excellent dishes, though similar. What I appreciate about them is that the chicken pieces are fried well - crispy and not greasy. I've had each dish also as a reheated leftover and will say that it was okay reheated, but amazing when fresh. My son got Basil Chicken. He enjoyed it enough that I didn't get more than a single taste of it, lol. The veggies were fresh and well cooked, and the chicken was stir fried pieces. My wife ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with chicken. The eggplant was crispy outside and velvety inside. It was very good. I don't think this is a dish that is improved with meat - next time I'd skip the protein. The inside is clean, quiet, and tranquil. Parking is super easy and it's a great dine in option. This place was essentially an extremely condensed version of a Chinese restaurant. The exception was they tried to class it up by calling it a bistro. My husband & I paid $35 for a meal we split! My husband had gone to get our drinks while I paid. When I told him what the total was, he almost fell out of the chair. I should have had them cancel the order & went somewhere else. Our first visit to Shanghai Bistro. The woman working behind the counter was friendly and explained the menu to us. We ordered crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and two combo platters. We enjoyed the crab Rangoon (there were about six in the order). The egg rolls were also good. I got the egg drop soup with my meal. I didn't think it had much flavor at all. My husband ordered the General Tso's chicken and fried rice. His chicken was fried very hard and had a thick breading which he didn't like. We both enjoyed our fried rice. I ordered the bourbon chicken and it was good, not fried, and a large portion. They have quite a large menu, and with friendly service and good size portions I think we would be happy to return and try some of the other menu items. Really, really good. We walked over from our hotel, tired and hungry. This is a small restaurant in a strip mall, serving excellent Chinese food. My plate was loaded with beef lo mein, served piping hot, beef, noodles, onion, carrots, and celery all cooked in a perfect sauce. My husband ordered the peanut beef which was loaded with Bermuda onions, string beans, beef, bell peppers in a spicy peanut sauce. Not feeling well, I decided to order delivery from this place in my neighborhood. Ordered online through Yelp which was easy and quick. Delivery estimate was 45-60 minutes and is via Eat24. Food arrived fresh and hot just over an hour. Driver had quite a few deliveries prior, but Shanghai made sure my food was prepared just early enough to be delivered promptly. (I called about 5 minutes before my food was delivered and spoke to a very nice gal who assured me the food was just on it's way and had just been prepared to make sure it arrived hot.) Food is AMAZING! Fresh, hot, and very satisfying. The Pad Thai container is deceptive in that it didn't look like much until I dipped into it. It's like a bottomless bowl - just keeps on going. So this is my and my wife's first time to Shanghai Bistro and, we walk in and off the bat the atmosphere and decor was very pleasant. So we walked up to the counter and the lady took our order. First off she was very nice and she explained her menu. My wife ordered the General Tso's Chicken and she asked if it could be light spice and the lady answered "Well yes we can!" And the side was a salad with Ginger Dressing. I ordered the Broccoli with Shrimp and Pork Fried Rice. The salad and the WonTons came out first. Let me tell you that the Crispness of the lettuce and the cold bite into the salad really wet my palate and my first impression of the food was delicious. My ONLY negative comment with this restaurant is that it's 23F degrees outside and when the door is opened a BLAST of cold air rushes in and cuts you to the bone, which isn't the restaurants fault but just don't visit the restaurant in a short sleeve and shorts. As we were leaving the lady who I assumed was the owner apologized for the cold and I said "Well you can't help that!" What a nice gesture though. OH? One last thing, I over heard her talking to another customer who complained that there weren't any egg rolls in their order and her response was "Come in and I'll replace those for you!" Located in Hamburg, near the interstate, it's in the same strip mall as Vinaigrette and Jersey Mikes, it's not my favorite of the three. I've only been once though. When I walked in, I was surprised to find it so small. I've passed it for several years and always thought that it would be bigger inside. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed! I briefly had to wait on a table, and that was the communal table in the middle of the restaurant. I ordered the mixed vegetables and beef combo. It came with a choice of soup, salad or egg roll and a choice of rice for $9.25. I've had mixed vegetables and beef at several places around town, and theirs here wasn't anything outside of the ordinary. The fried rice was below average. Actually, the meal was a bit overpriced for the serving size. Probably the smallest portion I've had. There were only two mushrooms mixed in. If you order "dine in", they serve it on what appears to be ceramic plates and bowls, but you have to serve your own soda from the fountain and pick up soy packets and silverware at the station, in addition to putting away your trash and dishes at the end. So, it's a fast casual type of place. They served the salad with the meal, not before the meal like at other dine-in restaurants. The service was casual. Maybe it's ideal for delivery, as many reviews mentioned, but for a dining in experience, I wasn't all that impressed. read more

The chicken in the fried rice tasted like it was boiled and then tossed into the fried rice. The Hot and Spicy Beef was not spicy at all. He did say the egg roll was pretty good though. This isn't the typical Asian fast food restaurant. While they serve everything you would expect at Panda Express, this place is many notches above in quality. I always feel they use premium ingredients and don't skimp on meat, like chicken, which can ruin a meal with fat or gristle. I've eaten here dozens of times and have not had a bad meal. It's a lot of white rice, maybe 3 peas, a very small teaspoon of diced carrots, maybe a little onion... but mostly white rice with barely cooked extremely meager portion of meat. I don't believe it's even refried. I think they just throw it on a plate. The result is a wet bland expensive plate of white rice. It's very disappointing. I wish they would take a hint from Archa Nine's rice. Rice dishes are a simple staple that should be impossible to get wrong. They are cheating the customer with this dish- don't order it. It's consistently good and they are quick to get your food to you fresh and hot. I've tried the the hot and sour soup and the egg drop soup which are both also very good. I ended up going into this restaurant a few days ago to get 2 egg rolls to go. I think you can learn a lot about a Chinese restaurant by the egg rolls which were delicious (boy was I wrong). We went today to eat lunch. I ended up getting general Tao"s chicken and my wife got the orange peel chicken. We both opted for the brown rice for $1.00 upgrade. When the food came out it was a little rough looking. It was hot but burnt. I could not get my fork to even go through the chicken to cut it. If you look at the one photo it's mostly breading, there is not much chicken. My wife's was just as hard and guess what, I could not taste the difference between her's and my dish. They looked and tasted the same. After trying to eat just one piece of the chicken we stopped. $30 for lunch that the best thing was the rice and egg roll. Was hoping for better but you learn. The people were nice and place was clean but I will never be back. Sorry for the bad review. I am disappointed because I need to find a good Chinese place. read more

I met a friend of mine here for lunch the other day. It was a very small little place located in the plaza next to Tom + Chee. My friend eats at this place all the time, but it was my first time. The lady taking the orders was the owner and was really nice and helpful. She suggested that I get Sambal Shrimp with rice. It was the perfect combo of curry and coconut. I am really glad I took the owners suggestion. We also sampled their spring rolls. Just for the record, they fry their spring rolls here. I was told this place delivers and they have really cheap lunch specials around $5. I will be back to this place for sure. Check them out if you are in the area. read more
