Clean, well appointed restaurant. Food was decent, but pricey for what I would consider Chinese fast food. It wasn't bad, but definitely nothing special. Fairly bland. Service was ok. Again, not bad but nothing extra.

We grabbed a quick lunch, interior was clean and the service was quick. Great lunch combo options!

Great portions and wonderful service! Everything is great on the menu! We had the garlic sauce with chicken combo specials!

    Beef with mixed vegetables

Everything in the menu that I have eaten is good. Beef/mixed vegetables, General Tso, crab Rangoon, vegetable spring rolls, and wonton soup. Fast service.

I adore good Chinese food when it's fresh, crispy, and flavorful. Shanghai Bistro is each of those things and is now (after three visits) my favorite Chinese place in Lexington. I've had the Gen Tso chicken twice and the Orange Peel Chicken twice. Excellent dishes, though similar. What I appreciate about them is that the chicken pieces are fried well - crispy and not greasy. I've had each dish also as a reheated leftover and will say that it was okay reheated, but amazing when fresh. My son got Basil Chicken. He enjoyed it enough that I didn't get more than a single taste of it, lol. The veggies were fresh and well cooked, and the chicken was stir fried pieces. My wife ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with chicken. The eggplant was crispy outside and velvety inside. It was very good. I don't think this is a dish that is improved with meat - next time I'd skip the protein. The inside is clean, quiet, and tranquil. Parking is super easy and it's a great dine in option. Now I'm hungry.

Food is always delicious! My husband and I have ordered for pickup and delivery- both services are great. We love the Sweet & Sour Chicken Combo w/ Pork Fried Rice & Wonton Soup, Steamed Dumplings, and Edamame! We have never dined in, but the area is nice when we have walked in store to pick up.

Our first visit to Shanghai Bistro. The woman working behind the counter was friendly and explained the menu to us. We ordered crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and two combo platters. We enjoyed the crab Rangoon (there were about six in the order). The egg rolls were also good. I got the egg drop soup with my meal. I didn't think it had much flavor at all. My husband ordered the General Tso's chicken and fried rice. His chicken was fried very hard and had a thick breading which he didn't like. We both enjoyed our fried rice. I ordered the bourbon chicken and it was good, not fried, and a large portion. They have quite a large menu, and with friendly service and good size portions I think we would be happy to return and try some of the other menu items. Also, it is a plus that they are open on Sunday!

Really, really good. We walked over from our hotel, tired and hungry. This is a small restaurant in a strip mall, serving excellent Chinese food. My plate was loaded with beef lo mein, served piping hot, beef, noodles, onion, carrots, and celery all cooked in a perfect sauce. My husband ordered the peanut beef which was loaded with Bermuda onions, string beans, beef, bell peppers in a spicy peanut sauce. The food here is as good as we've had in Asia and we will definitely be back!

Vegetable Pad Thai delivery minus two helpings I'd already consumed from this seemingly bottomless container!

On Sunday, July 5, we went to J2C for lunch. A male server seated us at a table that was quite dark and directly under a strong air conditioner. I politely asked if we could move to a table by the window. He said yes, but told us to wait while he cleaned the table. My husband and I waited patiently by the other table, looking through the menu. During that time, we saw the male server come out several times to serve other customers, but he never came back to us or acknowledged that we were still waiting. We didn't complain--we simply continued waiting. 15 minutes later, a female server noticed us waiting there and asked if we needed anything. I explained that our original table was too cold and asked whether we could move to the window table. She said yes, cleaned the table, and then waved for us to come over and sit down. At that point, everything seemed fine, and we were looking forward to ordering our lunch. However, shortly afterward, the male server walked directly over to us and began scolding us. He said, "You need to learn to be patient. I told you I would clean the table, and you shouldn't have moved without communicating with me." I calmly explained that the female staff server had cleaned the table and told us to sit there. I asked him, "What did we do wrong?" He replied, "Yes, everyone made a mistake. You just need to learn to be patient." I still don't understand what we did wrong. The female employee who told us to move to the window side table was also works for the restaurant, We simply followed her instructions. So why were we being blamed? From the moment we entered the restaurant until we left--nearly 20 minutes later--the male server never once came over to check on us or even offered us a glass of water. In the end, we decided not to eat there because we did not feel respected or welcomed. We will not be returning. This was an extremely disappointing experience and reflected very poor customer service and restaurant management. I sincerely hope the management will look into what happened and ensure that all customers are treated with courtesy, respect, and fairness.

And their Kung Pao tofu delivered all that I could have hoped of it. A packed full container of finely cubed fried tofu (one hack for anyone that doesn't know how to make tofu taste good: you should probably cut it smaller to give it more surface area to absorb whatever sauce you're cooking it in) as well as some diced carrots, baby corn, and quite a lot of peanuts in a brown sauce with just a bit of spice. I also got some sesame noodles, which is one of the more basic versions of the dish I've had, which is basically just noodles with a dollop of spiced peanut butter to spread around and coat them with. This probably sounds like a dig, but it's pretty satisfying and the noodles themselves had a nice soft texture. It was, as I would expect, a ton of food for the money. Basically the whole interior of this little building was devoted to what looked like a clean and organized kitchen. Fancy? Authentic? No, but American Chinese cuisine is a subculture of its own, and this seems a good example of it. I definitely think it would be worth returning to try their other tofu dishes.

I ended up ordering a few appetizers. The Hot & Sour Soup was the standout... flavorful, comforting, and easily a 5/5 on a cold n wet day. Unfortunately, the rest didn't quite hit the mark. The shrimp rolls were below average... mostly lettuce, the shrimps were dried out, and they took about 10 extra minutes to come out. The crab rangoon was the biggest disappointment; the filling had an unpleasant smell and tasted like heavy, clotted cream cheese and there wasn't even an iota of imitation crab meat to justify that name. My friends ordered egg rolls, which actually looked pretty good (I'd say a solid 4/5), and Singapore noodles, which unfortunately looked underwhelming. Overall, there are a few bright spots, especially the soup, but the food quality and atmosphere were inconsistent.
