We order from here routinely but tonight we ordered separately a pint and a quart of hot and sour soup. The soup was delicious, and the pint container was indeed a pint, but the "quart" was actually a 20 ounce container. Go ahead and charge $2.00 extra for the quart size and give your customers what they ordered. I attached a photo comparing what we received versus a real quart-sized carry out container. I have been a loyal customer since 1981. Something has changed. Previously I would give them a 10 out of 10. But, tonight wasn't very good. Among other issues the egg rolls had no cabbage. We have enjoyed food from Foliage for several years. Unfortunately we recently ordered from Foliage for our large family for Christmas eve. We pre ordered and it was confirmed more than once by the restaurant. When we went to pick it up, it wasn't ready. We were told several times that they were "working on it" After 30 minutes it became clear they were not working on it. We can understand being behind on orders, but not lying about it and not apologizing. We never got our food and were left without dinner as everything else was closed. Very disappointing. read more

Foliage came through for us on Christmas Day like literally no other restaurant would. I'm from Lex but Foliage wasn't there the last time I lived in Kentucky. After trying to order 2 hours ahead at the restaurants that I did remember (and were still open) my Dad suggested Foliage. Not only was the ordering via phone process quick & painless, every single bit of our order was perfect. AND they made our food to order in 45 min. On to the food.... We ordered sweet & sour chicken combination, mongolian beef, wonton soup, crab rangoon, & egg rolls. My husband LOVED the mongolian beef & absolutely ate all of it in one sitting. He never does that, ever. The sweet & sour chicken was served as expected but the chicken was SO GOOD. No weird chewy pieces like we've all experienced before. The soup was amazing: I'm a wonton soup snob & the only bad part of this soup was that I didn't buy enough! The crab rangoon was very good, well-balanced & the perfect portion size as an appetizer for 4 people. All in all? I'm incredibly happy & super satisfied. Next time I'm in town I will most definitely be looking to eat here again. Biggest regret is not taking pictures to share. Today we tried out Foliage. It was easy to call and place an order for pickup, and they said food would be ready in about ten minutes. They have a very reasonably priced lunch special which includes fried rice and an egg roll. When I arrived to pick up my order, I didn't have to wait long. They have a very safe pickup procedure with plastic put up between the register and the waiting room and a small drawer to collect payments. When I arrived home, the order was correct. My husband enjoyed the egg drop soup, the egg rolls and crab Rangoon were both pretty good. Our entrees were the General Tso's chicken and the shrimp vegetable delight. The shrimp dish was okay, but I prefer the version I've had at another restaurant better. The General Tso's chicken was very good. It had a little bit of a kick, but wasn't too spicy. I would order that again. If you are craving some quick Chinese, Foliage is a good option. read more

They have all of the classic Chinese dishes that most every Americanized place has, as well as a few others. This is one of the few places I've found in Lexington that has coconut chicken! read more

Good prices for typical Chinese food. The portions aren't huge (like some takeout places), but I had enough for two meals from one combination dinner. The combination dinner includes rice and an egg roll with your entree. I had the chicken lo mein. The food isn't overly greasy like other places in town. The crab ragoon rolls are delicious. Last night my husband and I went to pick up our order and our friends' too. They had called their order in separate ahead of time. Their order was up front, but before the staff member could go to the back to get ours, two new orders were called in. We had to wait about 5 mintutes. I guess it's a good sign that they are popular. You can also dine in the restaurant, but I believe there was only one table occupied on a Sunday night. read more

Let me preface this review with two caveats: I only had one entree on my visit, and I'm typing this on a Droid. It may be curt. That said, I'd prefer to give three and a half stars and give a cautious recommendation to Foliage, as I visited it on the worst terms possible (not the restaurant's fault). First, I was desperately seeking anything but fast-food chain cuisine that has become the plight of my work week. Second, I was looking for food on the way to the gym, and not finding anything suitable on Man O' War from the office, I resorted to whatever was in the same shopping plaza. So, hasty, tired of looking, and the third issue: nostalgic. A Tampa native, I was used to having as many Thai restaurants as there were McDonald's. But Foliage is Chinese, you say! Well, precisely the point. In the window is an advertisement for, what else, pad thai. Having passed an actual Thai restaurant on the way (Pad Thai, in fact), I suppose the regret of not stopping got to me and I went in for the new special. Foliage looks like the standard Chinese fast food place, but in fact, it is a dine-in and carry-out joint. Sneakily, around the corner and the pictures of such Chinese fast food specials like Happy Family were waiting chairs and rows of booths. Foliage is small, but not crowded; the narrow space of the strip mall parcel is at least well-utilized, and the booth I was sat at was comfy. The hostess and to-go order cashier served as my waitress as well, but being a Sunday night (with the Jets-Chargers game on no less), there was no need for someone else. Service was attentive and quick. Now, I admit that I had no high hopes coming in, and was kicking myself for my capriciousness. Chinese pad thai. And when the dish came out, I had to hold back my shock. It... it wasn't ORANGE! Sure, it looked like pad thai noodles. It had all the elements of pad thai (egg, peanut pieces, beef, chicken, shrimp, green onion), but not the color! And the meat itself had an unnatural sheen to it. Sigh. Well, one must suffer their folly. And yet, after the first tentative bite, I had another. It wasn't that bad! In fact, it was pretty good. Despite the lack of color, it wasn't lacking in flavor (though those who like pad thai with kick will not want to ask them to tone it down, and I am a coward about heat). And furthermore, it had plenty of God's good creatures stirred in it, keeping me from feeling the regret that one gets after they order the house special anything and get a little bit of everything - but not enough to feel "special." Perhaps why the meat looked so dubious is because for a stir-fried dish, it was not very greasy - something I tend to find even otherwise great-tasting pad thais fall victim to. Not undercooked, but not browned and dry, I ended up happily cleaning my plate with a lack of an pool of orange death staring back up at me, no drowning noodles left behind to accuse me of gluttony. I'm surprised at the couple of recent bad reviews of this place. We get delivery take out from here on a somewhat regular basis and have never come across an item we thought was not good. The delivery staff is also very pleasant when they arrive with our order as well, and portion sizes are great. The only issue we have found is that they tend to put the California rolls in the same bag as with the hot food ... I still cannot figure out the logic on this one. However, we like this restaurant and will continue using their service. read more

Have ordered take-out numerous times from this restaurant and I really really like it. I love sweet and sour chicken even though it is far from healthy. I think their sweet and sour chicken is the best I have had in Lexington. I could go to PF Changs (which gets my runner up nod) and get it for 16 bucks, or I could get twice the amount of food for half the price and enjoy the taste more. Both of my young daughters enjoy it as well so that is a huge plus. Staff is very nice, service is fast and accurate and the price is right. I cant speak for different dishes that others may prefer, but I would suggest you give them a try. read more

After the first bite i just assumed it was a bad piece and the next one would be better since I didnt know it was possible to make it that bad. Turns out it all tastes like slimy fatty nast. Me and some co workers ordered food for lunch. I noticed my chicken was pink after a few bites so I threw everything away. Around 45 minutes later everyone of us but 2 out of 7 or 8 people got sick with stomach issues. Through the night 4 stayed ill, some having to call in the next day because of this. No one was able to eat after lunch so we are positive this food made us ill. I called Foliage and talked to Donna who stated she was the manager. She didn't believe me, stating I was the only one that had called. Of course I was able to come to work so I was the only one well enough to call at that time. I have never came across such a unprofessional and nasty place. My work orders from there once a week, never again. Along with other floors and regular customers I know.
