I had a taste for Chinese food and thought I'd try a new place. I'd never been to Cheng's, so off I went for the lunch special and picked up my selection curbside. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Lots of tender chicken, crunchy veggies and peanuts. Chinese food can be overly salty, but this wasn't, so I drizzled a touch of soy sauce on it. An all around good deal. 23

Crab Rangoon and pork egg rolls

We don't eat inside often (usually take out), but today we did and it was great. The restaurant was pretty busy for lunch and our service and food were great. The crab rangoon (my favorite) was some of the best I have ever had, and my husband's General Tao's chicken and my shrimp and vegetables were both delicious. This is a great lunch (or anytime really) spot. CHENG'S HAS REOPENED!!! We are so glad to see our favorite Chinese restaurant open again after Covid-19 has caused so many disruptions to normal life. If you drive by you will see cars lined up at the takeout window, and the food is just as good as ever, and maybe a little better because we have missed it so much! Grab some lunch or dinner and be sure to support them now that they are back.

Very good take out spot on Clays Mill. The spring rolls are nice, and try your favorite fried rice.

Usually I start off talking about ambiance and service but my god the food here was EXCELLENT!! I…read morepersonally had the Jalapeño Chicken and BBQ Pork Buns and both dishes were delightful. The chicken had just the right amount of spice where you noticed it but it didn't overpower the food. A co-worker had the Pad Thai and it looked delicious as well. There is an extensive menu and if I lived near there I'd be trying something different on a regular basis. As for the ambiance, it's a small little restaurant in a strip mall where you will overlook it if you don't know what you're looking for. Not much parking but it wasn't overly busy either. Nothing fancy here but it was clean and with how good the food is, it doesn't need to be fancy. The service was what you would expect. The waitress checked on us regularly and was friendly.

All that to say this was one of the best dishes of chicken rice I've ever had. While I didn't realize that it's a portion for the table, I made every effort to eat it all and was left happily defeated. Now back in the hotel, I'm lying recumbent as I nurse a food baby and am grateful to have leftovers sitting in the fridge, for either a midnight snack or savory start to my Sunday. The food came out relatively quickly. The place was extremely clean and well-lit, and the young lady who took my order was extremely professional and cheerful. Overall, I would give this my strongest recommendation and will make a point to return even if doing so would require its own trip or a significant detour from another route. Great stuff!!!

The lady working the counter and cooking is a nice older lady and we usually talk about the weather. The place offers a…read morevery American Chinese menu, but it was pretty long on the vegetable and tofu side compared to a lot of cheap Chinese joints, which is what inspired me to give them a try. And their Kung Pao tofu delivered all that I could have hoped of it. A packed full container of finely cubed fried tofu (one hack for anyone that doesn't know how to make tofu taste good: you should probably cut it smaller to give it more surface area to absorb whatever sauce you're cooking it in) as well as some diced carrots, baby corn, and quite a lot of peanuts in a brown sauce with just a bit of spice. I also got some sesame noodles, which is one of the more basic versions of the dish I've had, which is basically just noodles with a dollop of spiced peanut butter to spread around and coat them with. This probably sounds like a dig, but it's pretty satisfying and the noodles themselves had a nice soft texture. It was, as I would expect, a ton of food for the money. Basically the whole interior of this little building was devoted to what looked like a clean and organized kitchen. Fancy? Authentic? No, but American Chinese cuisine is a subculture of its own, and this seems a good example of it. I definitely think it would be worth returning to try their other tofu dishes.

I'm sitting there eating, and of course, it has very dim lighting, next thing I know, crawling up the wall next to me comes Mr. cockroach. I can't go back. I just can't. All I can think about now is that under that dark table there are roaches crawling around on my feet, up my leg, and down the wall. I was terrified they were crawling into my purse.

I ended up ordering a few appetizers. The Hot & Sour Soup was the standout... flavorful, comforting, and easily a 5/5 on a cold n wet day. Unfortunately, the rest didn't quite hit the mark. The shrimp rolls were below average... mostly lettuce, the shrimps were dried out, and they took about 10 extra minutes to come out. The crab rangoon was the biggest disappointment; the filling had an unpleasant smell and tasted like heavy, clotted cream cheese and there wasn't even an iota of imitation crab meat to justify that name. My friends ordered egg rolls, which actually looked pretty good (I'd say a solid 4/5), and Singapore noodles, which unfortunately looked underwhelming. Overall, there are a few bright spots, especially the soup, but the food quality and atmosphere were inconsistent. With some updates and more attention to freshness and flavor, this place could really improve.
