I ordered coconut shrimp for 17.99. There was no coconut in the crust. Just a dozen very small shrimp that obviously came pre-breaded and frozen. Went there tonight. Fairly crowded. Got seated and after five we ordered drinks. The server was a young cute girl. Very friendly. She seemed stressed and was literally running between tables. Told my son I'll bet she's having a tough night. After ten minutes she brought our drinks. Then took our order. After fifteen minutes they brought one of three orders. Then fifteen more she brought one more. Meanwhile my food was absent. Twenty minutes later still with out food. So I flagged down another person and said can you help me figure out why I haven't received my order. She said there are a lot of to go orders tonight. That's great but you should prioritize in house food requests. Then the young girl server was talking to a table in front of us and she started crying. The two ladies got up and started belittling me. Saying I shouldn't talk to her that way. I said I wasn't trying to make her cry I was just trying to get my order. It's on the outskirts of town, but it's a very nice place inside, and they were doing good dine-in and takeout business when I stopped by, though I was awarded a seating deck to myself. It has kind of an old-school American Chinese vibe with bustling and efficient service, but what makes this restaurant notable is that they have a large vegetarian selection, with some tofu, vegetables, noodles, and such, but also something they call "kwachic". They say it's a vegetarian chicken substitute but they don't say much more (and it must be their own term because I've never seen that word elsewhere). I assume some combination of wheat and soy. "Kwachic" has a slightly fibrous texture, but is much more uniform than animal products tend to be (in my very limited experience). It doesn't have any particularly strong flavor, so it has to be cooked right. I got mine double cooked, which came with a nice variety of vegetables and a sauce that was light in flavor and only the tiniest bit spicy. I also got some potstickers with vegetables inside, and some hot tea. Indeed, the tea was so hot that I did singe my tongue significantly, though this experience paled in comparison with the burn I got from my fortune cookie at the end (see picture). Has been a go-to date spot for me for going on over two decades, used to take any shawty I was interested in here and now it's in regular rotation for my fiancée and I. Food is always great. I used to go for lunch more often as the portions at dinner are more than I need but they took my partner's beloved chicken and green beans off the lunch menu so now we tend to favor dinner. Can't recommend the Singapore Mei Fun enough. Servers are always doting, I usually get water instead of soda here as they always keep the water topped off and IDK it just fits the vibe. read more

Chicken Kung Pao was the blandest chicken I've ever tried to eat. I was unable to eat it due to the lack of flavor.

This place used to be fantastic, the best around. They have changed so much they are now pitiful. Moo Shu with flour TORTILLAS instead of pancakes? Also some type of orange sauce that is sugary/grainy. Subpar food with extreme prices. So disappointed. We used to go there all the time. What happened? So I think I have officially found my favorite restaurant in Lexington. Wow. Asian Wind is great!! We were greeted warmly and promptly sat. They have booster seats for y'all w kids! We ordered 2 lunch specials and 2 appetizers. The potstickers were ok nothing extraordinary. Same with the spring rolls. Would still order them but nothing that stood out. The vegetable soup was divine! The broth was very flavorful and the veggies were crisp but perfectly cooked. The entrees were sesame kwachic (a chicken replacement, seemed to be like seitan) and vegetables with garlic sauce. Both dishes were excellent. We are looking forward to trying more kwachic dishes! My daughter is a picky vegan kid so she only wanted steamed plain tofu and they accommodated that request for us! Sub-par experience. It must have been an off night as the meals were mediocre at best. They seem to be on the pricier end but don't warrant that bump. The Mongolian beef was just soupy. General Tsao's plain and uneventful. Even the fried rice was just steamed rice with some soy tossed in it. Save yourself the headache and go to Cheng's or New Peking. Normally I like Asian wind but they gave me the wrong dish (not the end of the world) but wouldn't not refund me without having me bring the dish to the restaurant even though I live 30 minutes away and did not notice until I was home. They gave me a dish I could not eat due to dietary restrictions. Our last few visits this spring have been disappointing taste-wise , we'd noticed the entire staff changeover and wondered if the original owners had retired. Looks like it's true. Our last visit was a week ago for a carry out order and the sesame chicken was so sweet and almost mustard-y tasting my son (who adores the sesame chicken usually) wouldn't eat it. The won-ton soup also was different and not pleasing. I was going to ask if it was under new ownership while I was waiting for the order but the gentleman at the counter was in a heated conversation with someone over his AirPods. I searched for Asian Wind while I was sitting at the library nearby to check the menu for takeout. The page that came up clearly had "Asian Wind" at the top of the page. We ordered 'shrimp tempura with vegetables' under the House Specials tab. Four generations of our family had eaten there for 30+ years and our experience with the new owner's poor customer service was so dissatisfying we took time to write this review. When we called to inform that we didn't get what we ordered, the man claiming to be the 'owner' responded immediately that his restaurant doesn't serve shrimp tempura with vegetables. We explained how we'd ordered straight from Google search, which we've done COUNTLESS times, and it clearly listed it under Asian Wind--AND I'd asked specifically in our phoned-in order to the owner for the TEMPURA. The 'owner' continued arguing that his restaurant doesn't have that. On top of this fiasco, the shrimp and vegetables that we got instead of the shrimp tempura and vegetables that we ordered was extremely sugary sweet and not good. We have NEVER had an order from Asian Wind that was this bad. After I explained 3 times that I'd ordered straight from the menu via Google from Asian Wind, the owner requested that I text him the photos from my phone. I did, clearly showing ASIAN WIND at the top of the pix from the Google search. His text response, 2 HOURS after our order had been reported as incorrect-- instead of offering to correct the issue--was: "I don't know how you search for a restaurant. I have proved to you that we don't have the dish you need, and this restaurant has never had tempura shrimp for 30 years. We care about the feelings of every customer, but you need a dish that I don't have. I can't do anything about it. If you are dissatisfied with the dishes, you can take it back and I will refund you at the original price. As for what you said to give us a bad evaluation of the restaurant, it's your right. Have a good day" This 'owner's' customer service was nothing but argumentative versus helpful in satisfying customers. Despite his comment above, he is clearly completely UNinterested in satisfied customers. It is regrettable because our family has supported Asian Wind restaurant for SO many years. Frankly, this man seriously needs to learn better customer service --ESPECIALLY for people who have been loyal to Asian Wind for decades. No more. Since the service and the 'owner's' attitude were so pathetic and disrespectful and completely disregarded the customer's experience--AND the food was awful--we have closed the chapter on Asian Wind for our family. ***We sure miss the previous Owner George Wei, as we NEVER experienced such blatant and callous disregard for the customer experience.*** Goodbye Asian Wind. I'm so disappointed. Had such high hope for Asian Wind after falling in love with Panda Cuisine's traditional Chinese dishes. Asian Wind was small, but well decorated. We didn't feel crowded. However, despite all the wonderful authentic names on the menu, the dishes were not authentic at all. Heavily reliant on sauces. Which is ok if you enjoy American influenced Chinese fast food, but based on the names, we had high hope for authentic dishes. I got the Szechuan chicken and the signature Szechuan tongue numbing pepper note was not present at all. If anything, it has a mild-spicy tomato taste to the heavy sauce. On a positive note for them, we did appreciate the amount of veggies and thought the dish was better than the Chinese restaurant we have in Georgetown. Service was ok. Good Chinese restaurant on the south side. The ingredients are fresh. The meals are tasty. Only problem is you can't get it spicy. For me, that's an issue. But for others, it might be just fine. But keep in mind that the meals they have marked spicy are not so. If you request that they spice up your meal they will act as if they're going to do it. But they won't. They just don't have spicy in them. Don't let that caveat make you avoid the restaurant. Meals are good. Service is pretty great too. Kids eat free on Tuesdays. That's cool. And the kid meals are pretty good. My kids like the lo mein and chicken on a stick. I like the price of these meals on Tuesdays. I recommend the ma la chicken for an adult meal. First time trying this place. Only because our main Chinese food place was closed today. I would not recommend it. I placed a decent order for some coworkers and myself. I ordered the general Tso's extra spicy. The chicken is some of the worst I have ever seen. Full of gristle and just inedible parts. Can't even cut through it. Throwing half of it away. Chewing it just spit it out because it's inedible. Chewy, gristly. Yuck. What a waste! 4 orders of General Tso's and most should not be consumed. Also, the extra spicy had no spice. Could not find any spicy flavor at all in mine. The fried rice was just okay. Not much mixed in with it. Had maybe 3 small pieces of broccoli in my Gen Tso's. The egg roll was ok. Just cabbage roll. Nothing special. Haven't tried the soup yet. I am hoping it's good. Upped it to two stars. Tried the wonton soup and it was good. Also checked in with a coworker that ordered shrimp and she said hers was fine. Not great but nothing terrible. This is the second time we ordered take out. The Hot and sour soup tasted like fish and I could not eat it. The pad Thai vegetable had only a few onions and no vegetables. The sesame chicken consisted of very tiny pieces of chicken heavily battered so you could barely see any chicken. It did have nice broccoli. Then you go get your lunch, you get meet with fee for online ordering and fee for using credit card. I can't believe I'm writing this review, but the owners need to know. For over 25 years I've been a regular patron of this restaurant and its been one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in town. I consistently would go to Asian Wind for their crab rangoon (best in the world!) for comfort food, and their hot & sour soup had practically soul-healing abilities with how it could make you feel better when you're sick. BUT... the restaurant recently went through a change in ownership and it has COMPLETELY CHANGED. The crab rangoon is very different.. the owner confirmed they changed the recipe. Even their homemade spicy mustard is runny and not at all as good as it used to be. The worst part.. I ordered the Hot & Sour soup today for lunch.. it was totally inedible. Looked the same as always, but tasted AWFUL! I'm devastated, and I had to trash it. The rudest experience in my 45 years on this planet. My wife and I stopped in around 1:00 PM and had the following experience. When we waited to be seated, there was a couple checking out who complained about being charged for items they didn't receive. Next we were seated next to a couple who barely touched their food. They left 75% of the food on their plates. We order and the menu didn't have DanDan Noodles one of my favorites there a couple of years ago. We order sesame chicken and General Tao's chicken. My wife goes to the restroom and reported that it smelled like raw sewage. I go to restroom and there is a black maker note on the wall about the urinal "Move Closer and put back in pants before stepping back". I come back to table and we were served cold egg rolls. The young waiter brings my food and the fried rice looked like it was prepared several days ago and reheated. I eat a couple pieces of the chicken and it wasn't bad. Several minutes pass and my wife still hasn't received any food. The waiter returns and without any explanation takes my plate. I look at him in surprise and he says "This is not your food. This is all white meat and for someone else." He starts to leave and I am I shocked. Why not let me have the dish and I will pay the difference in price. My suspicion is waiter was going to take it to another patron. I immediately asked or the check and got up. The waiter returns with an older man and who rang up my dish and two drinks... It was $19 for food that I didn't get to eat. Only explanation was the waiter was new. This is the rudest/ shrewdest service I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. My prayer is I don't get sick from the egg rolls or the few bites of chicken. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE! I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE. read more

We love this place and think it is the best Chinese in Lexington! The other places that we grew up with and liked a little more have closed and gone away. The only reason for giving four out of five is half the servers make you feel rushed to get up and go or hurry to take your order. This to me is a Chinese place that one could (if not feeling pressured to pay and go) sit and chat with their date. Or visit with family. They have a gentleman that his only purpose is to fill drinks and bus tables, he is very efficient and on top of things, but speaks very little English. There are several servers that recognize us when we come in and that makes things nice too. Again the food is the most flavorful and well cooked Chinese in Lexington in my opinion! Took the family to Asian Wind. 2 adults, 3 kids. Been there for their lunch specials many times, but first time for dinner. Especially with three picky teenagers. Overall an excellent experience.
