We had late outside dinner. Loved the food, atmosphere and service. We tried vegetable gratin, fish pie and fillet mignon. Also small house salad and potato leak soup for appetizers. My wife and I had dinner here last night while staying at a nearby Inn, and the dinner was fantastic. I had the Halibut and my wife had the Lobster Linguini and both were perfectly cooked. We were having trouble finding a place to stay in Main for Columbus day weekend that have room for two couples with a dog. but we came across this lovely place by searching the web. I've been corresponding with Leslie who sounded welcoming over the phone and e-mail. When we arrived, we entered the restaurant since that is also the front desk and we were asked to wait for Leslie. Leslie in person is extremely nice and friendly. You can tell by the look of the place that she put a lot of though into it. When we entered the room we were very pleased with the warmth and cosiness it sets. We stayed there for two nights. The first night we made plans to have dinner there and it was very good. The only thing I enjoyed here was the decor. I've never had such bland and flavorless food in my life. We ordered the lamb meatballs as an appetizer. Little to no flavor, and then also came out room temperature. Not a good start. I ordered the wedge salad with steak, medium rare. I should have known by the waitresses face she made when I ordered. She was not impressed. The blue cheese dressing was good, but that was it. The steak was practically rare, and I've never had such a flavorless piece of meat in my life. I had to season it with salt and pepper, and dip into into the blue cheese dressing to make it bearable. My husband ordered a burger - which shouldn't be that difficult. He did not enjoy it and called in "uninspiring." We both only ate our food because there's pretty much nothing else in Hancock. read more

The food and the service at this place was really good. Steak was perfectly done and fish was prepared in a way that was tasty but didn't overwhelm the fish itself. Vegetables were crunchy and hot and the wedge salad is a good option (the blue cheese and bacon were terrific). Dessert was great and the cocktails were interesting and thoughtfully created. I wanted to try multiple (but ended up sticking with the same one a couple of times since it was so good). After dinner they invited us to stick around the sitting room (couches, chairs), have a drink and watch one of the presidential debates with the owner and staff. Like a cool French inn and the rooms are clean, quaint and comfortable but there's heat and AC so you know you'll happy. The restaurant is just as nice and comfortable - homey and with no "in and out" eating atmosphere. You may stay there way longer than you planned. The food was fantastic. We shared the haddock and pork dishes, split them and cleaned our plates. I never order pork but tried it on a recommendation. I'll have to be talked into trying something else now, it was that good. read more

This review is only for the inn and not the restaurant. My husband and I stayed here last summer and found it to be a pretty mediocre stay. I called the inn to confirm our reservation before making the 4 hour drive from Boston to the inn. No one picked up after 4 calls and there wasn't even voicemail. Thus, we made the drive up not knowing if we'd have a place to stay that night. When we arrived, we waited at the front door to be checked in. The proprietor, Leslie, was busy at the front desk but didn't even acknowledge us for about 5 minutes. The room itself was less than satisfactory too. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, so we were excited about the bathtub. However, there was a layer of scum in the tub that made it pretty unappealing. The only thing I liked about this inn was the breakfast. Breakfast is included in the price of the room and they have a bagel with spectacular smoked salmon that is sourced locally. Ironbound is a new inn, and I'm sure there's a learning curve. However, I wouldn't stay here unless they get their act together and answer their phones, greet their guests appropriately, and clean their rooms better. read more

Thought we would give the new restaurant a try. We were extremely disappointed in both the menu choices and the quality of the food served.

What a great place! We had stopped down the road from the restaurant to pick up some smoked meat, as advertised on a sign in front of the shop. Alas, no meat was to be had. However, there was a menu for Ironbound. We were glamping not too far away at Mainstay in Winter Harbor. The next day we gathered up willing neighbors and set off. What a welcoming place! There was a lovely room with a fireplace and comfy chairs adjacent to the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and unobtrusive, but right where she needed to be when we needed her. I had the pork belly appetizer which was spot on. I followed it with the lamb sliders which were cooked perfectly pink. Herbed goat cheese was a perfect topper, and the slaw on the side was a tangy counterpart, which the sliders needed. Husband had the bone-in strip with blue cheese. He said it was perfect. For an app he had the oysters which were salty, cold, and firm. Exactly what an oyster lover wants, or so I am told. One of our friends had the Finnan Haddie, which he devoured with much praise. I'm clueless as to what the other friend had, but she left a clean plate and no doggie bag. (It's been over a week since we were there and my memory on lasts for so long.) Just finished my meal and I'm very satisfied! This place is homie and comfortable, but still feels professional and organized. The menu is long and very diverse, with a ton of options for every kind of eater (vegetarian, etc.). The prices are just as diverse -- if you don't want to spend a lot you certainly don't have to, but there are higher priced items if you have the scratch. I recommend the lobster mac'n'cheese. Loved it! The guacamole appetizer was simple but better than expected. The service is great too -- we showed up without a reservation and were still seated within a half hour. If you're in the area, you should definitely give this place a shot. read more

We dined at Ironbound on a busy Saturday night. We called ahead for reservations so there was no issue with being seated. The drink special was creative & right up my alley (downeast cider margarita). They had several good wine choices and beer on tap too. We had the lamb meatball appetizer and it was delicious. The entrees were extensive, something for everyone. We had the fresh fish special & the Ironbound chicken special, both of them were cooked perfectly. Dessert rounded out the night, although I was so stuffed from my food and the bread! If we are in the area again, we would definitely come back. Came here for dinner with extended family on a weeknight. We showed up a few minutes before opening, but the staff let us into their lounge area to wait for our table which was nice. There was a charming lawn area behind the building with lawn furniture and a ping-pong table, which we used until our table was ready. The hostess asked us if we would be staying awhile as she wanted us to have a table where we would not be rushed. The decor (kind of a cool shabby chic) and music were very nice. When we were lead to our table, the waitress told us about the specials and took our drink order and food order in timely fashion. I had the special which was similar to chicken cordon bleu, vegetables, and garlic mashed potatoes, and was very good. The other entrees seemed very enticing as well, and included: mac and cheese (very rich), lobster mac and cheese, sirloin, lobster roll (which was dry, but upon request, mayo was furnished which made it better), and chickpea fritters with aioli as an appetizer. Though the food was good, I don't think it was good enough to warrant the price we paid for it. The waitress was attentive for most of the meal, but towards the end it took so long for our waitress to come to our table, we created a game where we bet on how many of us looking at the waitress it would take for her to come to our table to ask us if she could bring the check. I know higher-end places like this are more relaxed with respect to time, but at least 30 minutes had passed between when we finished our meals and when our waitress brought the check. I've worked in higher-end foodservice before and know the value of being aware of your tables. With the relatively small number of other tables, I expected her to at least look our way and check on us after the meal. We will definitely come back (the next time we're in Maine) as it is a great place to come for a nice dinner, but now we know more about what to expect. I would have rated 3.5 if that option was available. Compared to other places we usually frequent, it rates higher than usual, but since it advertises itself as a higher-end place, it fell short of expectations. read more

From our first interaction with the proprietor, Leslie, to our final conversation with Rob before departing, my wife and I were extremely impressed with this operation. It is clear from the moment you walk into either the restaurant or your room at the inn that a lot of work and love is poured into this business. The rooms were spotlessly clean, as well as the bathrooms. My wife loved its bucolic charm and the attention to detail that was devoted to making our stay as pleasant as possible. Leslie and Rob were very helpful and friendly, made themselves available to us if we had any needs, and were eager to give us tips about where to explore. A gem in Maine! So a couple of things... But 1st I want to give a shout out to Wanda the bartender who was absolutely fabulous. She made the atmosphere joyful and welcoming. The food was good even though the pork belly appetizer was Sub par. There was too much fat and the meat was Grisly and tough. It was not prepared well. I have to say the halibut entree with the Lobster claw garnish was delicious. I had the blue cheese salad wedge, which wasn't a wedge at all. It was romaine...go figure. So now the part that really ruined it for me was the owner and hostess. Leslie was prickly and hard. I called for a reservation and she said she'd squeeze us in... When we arrived, there were plenty of tables. We sat at the bar, she was talking to us and laughingly said something about balancing profitability with customer service...pretty gross! Whenever we go to a restaurants that we're visiting out of state... I always try to get some bar glasses with some kind of imprint on them. I asked Wanda if I could buy 2 of the glasses from the restaurant. She said we'd have to ask Leslie. So Leslie came over and I asked her if I could buy 2 of the bar glasses. She said no she was low on them and that I should go to TJ Maxx to buy them since they were only 99 cents each. So for $1.98 She has insured that we will not come back to spend another $140. So if I were u...I'd go in...have a drink with Wanda and eat somewhere else! read more

We are locals and eat here on occasion. Leslie the owner has done a wonderful job with the place. It is very welcoming. The food has been hit or miss for us. Sometimes good and the other nite not so. I like their burgers but wanted something different so I tried the ribs. There were 4 ribs on my plate, not a bad portion but they were very dry and hard to swallow. The tasty BBQ sauce coating seemed to be added after the meat was cooked. Dill mashed potatoes were good but were cool and there was a decent side of string beans. My partner had the garlic panko shrimp which were a nice sized, cooked well and served with a rice cake that was very good and the veg on the side was supposed to be sauteed spinach. If I were to say it would fit in a thimble that would be a lot. It was an after thought. Either they ran out or something but we did not complain- maybe should have. It seems that the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gotten higher here. We will continue to eat here because we like the owner and the location is good for us. The drinks are good but expensive. But for $130+ dinner for 2 should be better. read more

My husband liked the dark & smokey old fashioned while I leaned toward the French martini or the lemon drop martini. The beet salad was delicious & the salmon with citrus sauce was wonderful. We decided to come here after looking for somewhere open around 9pm. Ironbound was serving dinner and we lucked out because everything we had was delicious. I ordered the macaroni and cheese; my partner had the lobster mac&cheese. Both were really good. His had plenty of lobster meat and it tasted super fresh. They have limited beer selection but there were a few local beers on tap. We also had the creme brûlée, which so so so good. Leslie, the owner, was really nice and gave us tips about where to hike during our stay. Our server Nancy was hilarious and super attentive. I highly recommend eating here. read more

My girlfriend and I found the Inn at Ironbound on Airbnb after having eaten at the restaurant there on past trips to Acadia. I can't say enough nice things about both the establishment and proprietor Leslie's commitment to making our stay comfortable! The rooms are cozy and clean and the bar/restaurant downstairs serves top notch drinks and food which is extremely convenient when you've spent all day at the park and would like to get a great meal and tie a few on before bed without having to drive home. Ironbound is conveniently located right between Mt. Desert Island and Schoodic Point which both offer amazing Acadia experiences. Would (and will) definitely stay again! read more

My husband and I stopped in to celebrate his birthday. We made a reservation and arrived around 7p on Saturday night a week ago. We were greeted by an older lady at the door who seemed a little preoccupied with something. We were a little put off by her attitude, but nothing was going to ruin our celebration. We were seated at a beautiful table and was quickly attended to by our waitress who quickly told us the daily specials. We were served our drinks, and was recommended the "pork belly" FABULOUS! The sweet and salty flavors were amazing. How could it get any better? It quickly did. My husband ordered the meatloaf. (A joke on me he said to see who had the best) I of course told him I did. I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG! The meatloaf was so amazing, so many flavors. Excellent. I lost the bet. Hands down the best meatloaf . I had a vegetarian pasta that was to die for. The perfect meal. To top the evening off we settled on a slice of chocolate cake. I would pay money for this recipe. The cake was super moist and had the most amazing chocolate flavors. I need more!!!!!!
