I got way out of my comfort zone when I hired a photographer off the internet for our family vacation in Maine. It made me nervous because I have never done anything like this (and hate having my picture taken). I am thrilled that I booked Rogier of Eager Eye Photography because it turned out to be a wonderful experience! He is great to work with and puts you at ease as soon as you meet him. The best part is that he captured my family in such a natural way, and now I have beautiful photographs to treasure! read more

Rogier was wonderful to work with! He was incredibly prompt and responsive from the very beginning. We had a great time with Rogier as he took pictures of our family of 19. He drove to the beach front house we were staying at which was so helpful. There were plenty of places around that worked for the photos. Rogier was great to work with and responsive to our questions and ideas. We are very pleased with our photos; it's hard to have 19 of us (with 9 children ages 16 to 2) all looking good at the same time, yet we have some great photos to choose from. read more

Rogier at Eager Eye was absolutely fantastic! We needed a photographer last minute for a large theater performance and he was willing to move things around to accommodate us day of, and made things remarkably easy for us. He came to the theater early to scout it out, was super kind and personable, VERY generous with his time and incredibly thorough. He got pictures we didn't even think we needed! Every picture was a gem - the entire cast and I were blown away not just at the artistry itself but by the work he put in to achieve it. He is obviously extremely versatile as well so I gladly recommend him for every kind of event/shoot! read more

We traveled to Maine to hike Acadia National Park and decided to hire a photographer to take family photos while there. We found Rogier at Eager Eye Photography through Google reviews and are so happy with all of the photos he took. We were able to get the digital downloads and also order a large canvas and prints through Rogier. I wanted to capture the beauty of Bar Harbor in our pictures and Rogier delivered that perfectly. Our original appointment had challenging weather and Rogier was able to reschedule us for the next day. Rogier was wonderful to work with. Especially since my two grandchildren were a bit cranky. Rogier was easy and patient with them - and us. I love his eye for making a family group picture look beautiful and fun instead of the same old staged photos. He was open to my ideas, as well as provided hints and suggestions. Rogier was also prompt! Fast turnaround with the files. Thank you Rogier! We will definitely book with him again. read more

Rogier was very professional and showed he cared about how the photos would turn out. I loved the locations he chose to take us and am very happy with our photos. They are beautiful and I will treasure them for years to come. As a side note my 3 year-old daughter is autistic and is not great at smiling for pictures or sitting still for long periods of time. I was so happy with how patient Rogier was with her and us. It made the whole event a lot less stressful for me and my husband. read more

We used Rogier this June for a family of 7 shoot at Acadia National Park. He responded quickly to confirm a date and his prices included the digital images which we appreciated. The pictures were the quality we had expected, but he exceeded expectations in the quantity and turnaround speed of the finished product. Be sure to keep an eye yourself for details: a garment that needs to be straightened, a lock of hair out of place, etc. Rogier is eager to please and he would gladly have taken more candid or unusual poses had we guided him. read more

My experience with Rogier was amazing! My photographer friend is very impressed with his work (as I am too)! She could see his high level of professionalism. She noted his use of various lenses for different images. She is very impressed that Rogier captured my true nature, that she could really SEE - how I really look in life. She knows how difficult I am to photograph:) Very very grateful to Rogier!!! read more

We were visiting Maine from Texas and decided last minute to see if we could do senior photos amongst the fall foliage. So we found Eager Eye, and he was VERY quick to respond, EXTREMELY nice & helpful, and we felt we REALLY got our money's worth! Thank you for helping us catch this precious moment in time! We highly recommend Eager Eye Photography! read more

Rogier is a consummate professional! While I was initially a little hesitant because his cost for engagement photos was on the higher end, I can confidently say it was well worth it. From the start, he was incredibly responsive and never had to wait more than a few hours to hear back. I hadn't been to Acadia before and wasn't sure on the location, but Rogier made several excellent suggestions for me to research (I settled on Sand Beach). He was incredibly thorough helping me plan out the sequence of events and he was a pleasure to work with. Fun and personable, it's easy to be yourself around him, which is essential for great photos. He retouched and sent us the photos FAST and even threw in a few extra shots. I absolutely recommend Eager Eye for engagement shots, and would work with Rogier again in a heartbeat. read more

If you're looking for outstanding photos that far exceed your highest expectations, then look no further than Eager Eye Photography. I found out about Eager Eye through a web-search, and following just one phone conversation with Rogier, I was ready to hire him. His commitment and dedication to his customers and his work is second to none. He captures the essence of each moment of the day without direction. It was so natural, we didn't even realize he was there a lot of the time. It wasn't until we got our photos back that we said to one another "oh wow, I didn't know Rogier got that shot!". We eloped, so photography was the biggest expense of the occasion. Money well spent, as we have beautiful photos to share with our family and friends. If I had it to do again, I would not change a thing. It was worth EVERY penny. read more

Recommend 100%! Rogier was kind, professional, and went above and beyond capturing the perfect family photos for us. He was so easy to work with and wonderful with the children. In addition, he is incredibly talented! I'll let this photo speak for itself. We are delighted with Eager Eye. Getting to know Rogier leading up to the wedding was fantastic. He was warm and responsive to all our inquiries (and he gave us much grace when we weren't always totally responsive ourselves). His work spoke for itself, but his accompanying professionalism and personality really made him our #1 choice. Furthermore, the FAQ that Rogier gave us detailed everything we could expect from working with him, and it was helpful to the point of answering questions I didn't even know I had. It was a huge stress-relief to know he'd have us covered on our wedding day. It is unrepeatable, afterall. On the day of the wedding we had a great experience with Rogier and his assistant photographer. They were fun to work with and in no time we were totally at ease behind the camera. At the reception they were wonderful (albeit busy!) wedding guests. We have fond memories of Rogier getting up close and personal with the contra dance portion of our reception. We got our photos earlier than expected and we're still smiling with the collection Rogier made for us -- even moreso because he went above and beyond in quantity. They're vivid and full of life. They didn't miss a beat -- all the small details are there, things we'd actually forgotten until we were given the pictures, things we are so thankful were captured. The formals in particular are strikingly beautiful, the flash making them so exuberant and alive. These pictures are now a true family treasure. We are so thankful to have found a photographer of this level in downeast Maine! read more

I would highly recommend Eager Eye Photography! On short notice, I inquired about family photos while we were going to be in the area on vacation. Not only was Rogier extremely prompt in his reply, but he graciously fit us into his schedule! The appointed day ended up rainy and Rogier seamlessly moved our session to a different day that worked for all of us. He is extremely professional, friendly, prompt with communication and made us all feel at ease during the shoot! He chose two different beautiful locations which made it easy for us as visitors. The turnaround time for the photos was fast and we are very pleased with them! Our family was together from all over the country and we will cherish these photos forever. Thank you Rogier! read more

We got married in Bar Harbor, ME and worked with Eager Eye from a few states away (PA) where we live. Rogier was a breeze to communicate with... Incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, personable and insightful. We met for the first time a few days before the wedding, and the initial meeting was wonderful and we felt completely at ease about the big day. Having two people cover the wedding was perfect - each location was fully covered by multiple angles. They were conspicuous, professional, and thorough. They were great with the wedding party and our guests, and captured so many candid smiles, hugs, and laughs. The final photos were absolutely beautiful and captured the day perfectly. The photos got rave reviews from our friends and loved ones, and we love looking back on them. We could not be happier with their excellent work, and would recommend Eager Eye to anyone. read more

If you're seeking a great photographer who is easy to work with, look no further! Rogier is proficient at his craft and has an easygoing manner. "Above and beyond!" We can't say enough good things about our experience taking a family portrait with Rogier van Bakel from Eager Eye Photography, Bar Harbor, Maine. Since scheduling a family portrait during the school year is tricky, we decided to make it part of our family vacation. Rogier was extremely attentive to what we hoped to capture and was really patient working with our three kids. He skillfully used the late afternoon light to create beautiful family and individual portraits in a few different settings. What my wife and I loved most is how Rogier really "got into it" and seemed to be enjoying the moment as much as we were. We couldn't be happier with the results! We are so glad we made this investment and we highly recommend Rogier. read more

We couldn't be happier with Eager Eye Photographs and our photographs! When we were looking at options in the area we talked with several photographers and selected Eager Eye Photography based on both the price point and phone conversation with Rogier. He was very professional, friendly, and up front with what we could expect from him on the day of our wedding. Both he and his assistant were able to capture the intimate moments as my husband and I prepared for our ceremony while still making us feel very comfortable. All of our photographs, both candid and posed really captured the joy of the day, and we would enlist his services again any day. read more

Rogier photographed our wedding in Maine. Despite crossing my fingers for sunny skies, the afternoon was dreary and rainy. However, Rogier still managed to make the outdoor photos look full of life and dramatic beauty. For the indoor photos in the evening, we asked him to take pictures against a window, which created an extra challenge to avoid reflections on the glass. Yet again, Rogier worked magic with the lighting. Our photos came out looking wonderful and warm. read more

Looking for a photographer in the Bar Harbor area for a destination wedding was over whelming. In our search we came across Eager Eye Photography. We contacted Rogier Van Bakel and he made us feel comfortable and confident in having a destination wedding. His emails were prompt, helpful, and provided all the information we needed. When we met Rogier for the first time, we knew he was the photographer for us. Rogier was professional, personable and we instantly felt very comfortable. Rogier said that he likes his photographs to tell a story from start to finish which was something that we wanted for our day. He takes great pride in his work and it shows in every photo. On our wedding day 7/9/2016, Rogier did a great job. He was punctual and professional throughout the day. During the ceremony and reception I didn't even notice him and his assistant -- but they were there capturing all the right moments!! Rogier was extremely flexible and amenable to adjustments throughout the day. He was also willing to join us on a trolley tour of Acadia after the reception. This made his day extra long -- but he was more than happy to accommodate us. We were thrilled with how our wedding day went and were anxious to see the photos. He posted a few a day or two later and they were great. We could not wait to see more! Having just received our photos from Rogier he did not disappoint! Rogier was able to deliver our photos to us about 4 weeks early!!! He even delivered 60% more than what our agreement called for. The pictures are crisp, clear and capture the entire day. The variety of images was above and beyond what we expected. It was truly the story of our day. The ease of the photo gallery make it perfect for sharing with friends and family as well as to social media. It has been amazing to relive the day in photos and we will cherish them for years to come. We are so thankful to have worked with Eager Eye Photography and Rogier Van Bakel. My wife and I hired Rogier to do a "Trash the Wedding Dress" Photoshoot around Mt. Desert Island. He was very prompt and professional and made us feel at ease throughout the session. He was very clear in his instructions on how to pose. He knows the area well and had good ideas for locations with beautiful backdrops. Rogier is very easy going and was open to suggestions we had regarding locations and poses throughout our shoot. Rogier's experience and talent comes through in his photos, which turned out great! We hired Rogier and second shooter Daryn to photograph our pre-wedding bowling party and wedding day at Point Lookout in Northport, ME. It was a destination wedding for us. These guys were consummate professionals. Rogier knew just the questions to ask us before the event. He even asked us to send him casual pictures of ourselves that we like, to get a sense of "us". He was available to talk on the phone when we needed to talk, and he drove hours to meet us when we were up in Maine to scope things out before the wedding. He always responded promptly. Rogier was well prepared to shoot. He was early to our bowling night and did all he could to get the best shots- he'd already set up flashes by the time we arrived (and we were early). On wedding day he and Daryn again went the extra mile to get the best shots. Daryn scrambled over rocks to get some amazing shots of us and Rogier figured out just the right spots to shoot as the sun was very quickly setting and the light was changing. They both worked hard and were extremely committed throughout the event. Of course the most important measure is the pictures we got. They're incredible. The quality of shots is fantastic. Compared to pictures guests shot, and it's remarkable the contrast. Rogier's photos are crystal clear, uncluttered, have amazing color and contrast. They are well framed. These pictures will last us a lifetime and always bring us happiness. We're very glad we picked Rogier. Thanks to Eager Eye we have beautiful photos that captured the entire event- guests, the place, the vibe and us. read more

I had the privilege of interacting with Rogier at a friend's Lucerne Inn wedding five years ago. I was impressed by his command of natural lighting and ability to capture a vast range of emotions. Additionally, his operations were impeccably covert as he worked his magic unassumingly through the crowd. It was photographer love at first sight. I had yet to meet the man I would marry but I knew that Rogier would be the one documenting my special day. Fast forward four years. My fiancé and I decided that Bar Harbor would be the perfect host for our wedding. Rogier was the first vendor we contacted once the date and venue were confirmed. Rogier was every bit of what I had remembered. He was professional, easy to work with, responsive and flexible to the vision of how we wanted to look back on one of the most important moments of our life. Having never been on that side of the planning, we looked to Rogier to offer his expert opinion. He did that with grace. The day was ultimately as perfect as it could have been. The photos we now have are beyond spectacular. We recommend Rogier and his team at Eager Eye with the highest regards. read more

Working with Rogier and his assistant Alexa was an absolute pleasure! He was very professional throughout; before getting to Maine, he explained how he works, asked about any of the ideas we had in our minds about photos we'd like or things we wanted to be sure he captured, told us how to best be prepared for the photos on the day and how to make everything go as smoothly as possible. He was the perfect blend of being directive as to what would make great pictures, and being unobtrusive so that I hardly even knew he was there - he was also kind, had a great sense of humor and was wonderful to work with throughout the day! We had about 84 people at our wedding, had a lot of group shots after the ceremony, and it was raining hard for part of it, and Rogier had the patience of a saint and was very effective at wrangling all the people who hadn't seen each other in a long time, getting many amazing shots. I was impressed with him throughout. He also got great shots of the venue, decorations, and all the little touches that we had, and I can't say how happy I am that he did, as often those little touches become a blur for the bride and groom on the day, so it's wonderful that we have those captured those as well. We are absolutely delighted at how the photos came out, he definitely has a wonderful eye - you can't go wrong with Rogier, we highly recommend him! read more

Rogier was an absolute pleasure to work with before, during, and after our wedding. He and Tony produced SO many great photos from our wedding day, not only of us, but some stunning portraits of our guests too. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Rogier / Eager Eye. He was friendly and attentive in the pre-sales phase. He timely answered questions, adjusted contract terms and called a couple days before the engagement to confirm. However, his post-wedding service did not match the pre-sales service, nor the terms of the agreement. He was very late in delivering photos, and even then, only delivered part of the order. When we provided feedback about some of the photos, he became defensive, then admitted to errors, then came back to being defensive. He was then very late in delivering the final album, and was unresponsive to our multiple attempts to get status updates and overall unapologetic about his lack of service. We entrusted Eager Eye to provide high quality photographs and customer service from end to end, as was represented to us, but we were deeply disappointed in Rogier. read more

Turning 60 wasn't something I was looking forward to. "Let's take some family photos to remember the week on MDI," suggested hubby oh so helpfully (??) and directed me to the link to Rogier's site. I clicked, liked what I saw, and followed up. I am really glad I did. After a session in August with Rogier, we now have a wonderful set of photos through which to remember an absolutely outstanding week together on the island. Rogier was flexible, accommodating, put all of us -- two boomers, three millennials -- at ease, photographed us as casually as we really are and in all the sub groups we had requested. He engaged our physicist son in a discussion of photo optics. He engaged our European-dwelling son and daughter-in-law with some of his own stories from Holland. And the parents? He just made us smile, genuinely, all the way to our eyes, and captured it on film (read: in pixels). Thank you, Rogier! read more
