Unprofessional, knows nothing about insurance, and nothing about customer service!!
I see my optometrist every single year around the same time, right before my year of insurance ends, 6/30.
I recently moved and was in a bind to get my annual eye exam in time to use up my annual insurance coverage (before 6/30/2012). I looked up a few places in the morning, and even made an appointment for someone else the following week, but still was not satisfied since I wanted to see someone the same day, since I had the day off work.
I found Iris Vision Boutique on yelp with very good reviews. I called for a same day appointment and they had one. Great.
When I went in, they said my insurance will not cover an eye exam until 7/1, when the insurance year lapses. I thought that was odd since I know I haven't gotten my eyes checked for over a year. I called my old optometrist and they looked it up for me and the last time I was there was April 2011 (more than a year ago!).
I specifically asked the lady at Iris Vision to call my insurance because it didn't make any sense. She refused. She said "why do I need to call them when it says right on the screen what your eligibility is?" I explained to her that I always go approx the same time every year and they always see me at least once within the insurance year window between 7/1 - 6/30. I told her that the last time I went was April 2011 and that beginning July 1, 2011 the current insurance year window began and I haven't used my current year coverage yet.
She proceeded to explain to me that I didn't know what I was talking about and that my last 7 years of insurance experience is not the way insurance works and it doesn't matter what time of the year I got my exam, since I took it in April 2011, then my eligibility was used up. I almost wanted to draw a timeline on a piece of paper to explain to her since it still made no sense. I asked her to call the insurance because something was wrong. She refused. (I actually was pretty polite the whole time, even though I was really furious inside, yay me).
Then I called my old optometrist again and they did the leg work for me. It turns out that the appointment I made for the following week, put a hold on my insurance coverage for the upcoming appointment. My old optometrist informed me all I would need to do is call the upcoming appointment place and ask them to take the hold off.
If the lady at Iris Vision took the time of day to make the 5 min call (AND I asked her to AND there was NO ONE in the store), she would have had one happy loyal customer. Iris Vision is so close to my new home, but too bad. With this experience, I can see that they won't do the necessary leg work to please their customers. My old place (that already lost me since I moved away) took the time to please their customers. I don't see Iris people doing even half the effort. No wonder they have same day appointments available.
I would not recommend this place because they act like they know what they are talking about but they don't. They also refuse to listen to their customers and think their way is the only way. read more
