I got classic bike-store vibes from my days in NYC, too. my only note here is that parking is a challenge, particularly on weekends when everyone and their brother is at Piedmont Park. but all-in-all we created a great memory for my son and he even used his piggy bank to pay for some of it too. highly recommended! read more

Nice folks, reasonably priced and very helpful in assessing the condition of a used bike.

I've had my bicycle for almost a decade and only changed the tires once. So it was way overdue for maintenance. I was in the area so I Googled nearby bike shops and this came up in the search. SERVICE: The staff at the shop were amazing. They knew all about bikes and can answer any questions you have. I never felt like I was being persuaded to buy something more expensive than I needed which can sometimes be the case with small businesses. They also found other issues with my bike and showed me so that I could understand it was a necessary fix. ATMOSPHERE/COVID: They enforce wearing mask and have a limit to how many customers can be in the shop at once. I appreciate this because I'm a health-nut. You can see from my attached photos that it looks like any bike shop. I appreciate the aesthetic. PARKING: Surprisingly they have a small parking lot in the back of the shop, which is amazing considering they're in the heart of Atlanta where free parking is a myth. Overall I loved this bike shop and will be returning for all my future bike maintenance needs. I 10/10 recommend this for anyone looking for affordable bike care. read more

BEWARE! INTOWN CAUSES SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE to bikes each time!!! This business will claim they can complete a bike repair ( this was an ebike), but they caused 2 flat tires and a broken peddle on 1 bike. I made the mistake of trusting intown with a second d bike, and it was out together wrong, with additional damages to an electrical unit. I don't know which bike mechanics are doing this , so called work, but if you use intown for repairs, or if you let them out a bike together, they will cause significant unforseen damage to your bikes each time. I needed an emergency repair on my disc brakes and Intown Bicycles I was able to get me going even though it was 10 minutes before closing time. I had just left the shop where I had purchased the bike and they told me there was nothing that could be done to get the bike rideable again that day. I'm so glad I came here. I was in the market for a fixie for riding around town and Mike at Intown was just the guy I wanted to chat with. I walked in and immediately felt like "Hey. This is a guy and I could just chat with about anything." Felt right at home, even though I'm a novice biker at best. It's a quaint little shop off of Monroe. Easiest thing to do is pull around back for parking. There are a few spots back there and there is actually a rear entrance for the shop, too. Much better than trying to fight your way into another parking space...especially with the craziness on Monroe and 10th. Seriously, Mike is so generous with his time. I came in looking for a specific model/price range and he had the model, size, and price I wanted -- Jamis Beatnik 53cm. Perfect for me. He set it up for me and made sure the seat was my height and then let me take it for a spin around the neighborhood. The best part is that I didn't have a chance to buy it that day, but I came back about two weeks later and Mike remembered every bit of our conversation. I had even called ahead and he was fine-tuning it for me once I arrived. I've been super happy ever since with my purchase. Walked in 15 minutes before they closed looking to buy a bike, young hipster sitting at counter playing on his phone took a while to get to us, only to remind us that they're closing. I was ready to buy the bike regardless as I needed one to cruise the beltline and my other bike was unavailable. I asked the salesman if he'd adjust another bike I had them work on a few months back for free if I spent the $500 on a bike that's $375 online. He said NO, quickly and without hesitation. I reminded him that I had 3 bikes repaired at his shop in the last 6 months and one was not done right and I needed it redone, and I'm about to buy another. He didn't care. TLDR: Been to Intown twice for a rear tire replacement and then for a bike tune-up. After both visits, the brakes were rubbing against the wheel (without pulling the brake handle) so I had to personally readjust them. I don't perform bike maintenance myself because I want to make sure everything is done correctly. I know they did a poor job with my brakes because the issues were obvious, but I am still not confident enough in my abilities to know that everything else was done correctly. I will be taking my bike somewhere else soon to make sure it is at least safe to ride. In two separate visits, I had my rear tire replaced (flat from a puncture) and paid for the tune-up package (includes adjusting the gears, brakes, and bearings; truing the wheels; checking all the nuts and bolts; external lube; and a wipe down). After I had my tire replaced, I had to personally readjust the rear brakes because they were sticking against the wheel (brakes rubbing wheel without pulling brake handle). This was irritating and inconvenient but not worth driving back to the shop. As for the tune-up package, my experience was bad enough where I will likely not be returning to Intown for any future products or services. I dropped my bike off on a Friday and came back in to pick it up 10 days later on a Monday. I was out of town for those 10 days, so the extended time was due to my inability to pick it up sooner. However, when I arrived on Monday to pick up my bike, they informed me that not only had my bike not been serviced yet but also they didn't have it in their computer system because it had malfunctioned recently. They informed me that they would start the tune-up immediately and it should be done by the end of the day. While I understand that computer issues are unavoidable and mistakes happen, I ride my bike to work every day because I cannot afford a parking pass at my place of employment, so this was incredibly inconvenient for me. To Intown Bicycles credit, they finished the service on my bike in 3 hours. Unfortunately, upon inspecting my bike when I returned back home, I found that the brakes on both wheels were not even remotely centered (i.e. one brake pad hits the wheel much sooner than the other one) and one of the front brake pads were rubbing the wheel (without pulling brake handle). One silver lining is that I can confirm they thoroughly lubricate everything because they did a poor job wiping away excess in several places (mostly near the brakes). I acknowledge that no place is perfect; however, if I am paying money to have someone else maintenance my bike, it is to ensure that everything is done correctly. Both times I paid for a service at Intown Bicycles, they did a bad job specifically with my brakes. I will not be returning. read more

I ran over an industrial nail this morning on my way to work. Intown Bicycles was half the distance to my usual go-to LBS for repairs, but since I was already late for work and hoping to save time, I decided to drop my tubeless tire off at Intown Bicycles. Except I didn't drop it off. Even though they primarily work on tubeless tires on mountain bikes, the shop tech said he could fix the tire immediately while I waited. I was expecting to be out of commission for at least a day, but this shop was so accommodating, I was good to go almost instantly and didn't miss that much work. What a find! Service and friendliness are off the chart, by my measure. I didn't see high end bikes (maybe there were high end mountain and e-bikes, which I don't ride), but I witnessed high-end service. We bought a 20" bike for my daughter's birthday online. It arrived in a large box and we started assembling it the night before. We failed installing the handle bar brake correctly :(. We called Intown Bicycles and they worked us in same- day and fixed the bike and put air in the tires! It took less than an hour and the cost was a very reasonable $35. I've had an amazing experience with Intown Bikes. When I decided I wanted a bike, I dropped in one day. Amy helped me narrow the field down to a handful of hybrid bikes, and let me test ride one around the neighborhood. She was informative, but never pushy. When I returned and was interested in another bike, she offered to have the store build it for me in the color I wanted so I could really see what I'd be buying. But...then I found the exact same bike, used, at a pawn shop, for much less. So I went ahead and bought it, and took it to Intown Bikes. I thanked them for building the other bike, and for their time, and said that I wanted to get my new bike checked out (always a good idea when buying used). I anticipated them wanting me to spend $75 on the full work down; instead, they looked it over and did a simple $30 adjustment. They were totally cool (actually, they simply didn't care at all) that I'd ended up buying a bike elsewhere. I purchased a rear rack from them, but balked a little at the $15 installation fee (I'm pretty handy, and it didn't look very difficult). They assured me I'd be able to install it on my own, and even explained how to do it. I also bought and installed a basket that turned out to be too small; they took it back happily. Basically, every time I've walked in this store people have been helpful, kind, and generous with their time and knowledge. Can't recommend them enough. read more

Not a bad bike shop, but nothing about this place blows me away. Average prices. Pretty small shop. Went to Intown because of their reviews. They have average prices for tune ups and gear. They tuned up my bike, and said they'd call if there was anything additional to adjust... Was charged $95 when the tune up was quoted at 75. I don't care about the $20 extra, but I do care that it was tacked on as just a "matter of fact" upsell. If this business does this across the board, it definitely adds up. Its an alright shop. The definition of average. Takes about a week for a tune up in heavy season. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. This morning I bit it on my way to work and fell off my bike. After an initial terror that my bike's brakes were stuck (the wheel just got turned around and I was still like ...omg that happened to realize it at first), I went through my day and then rode over here from MARTA. I said I fell off my bike and wanted to make sure I didn't ruin anything, and two guys there both are like BUT ARE YOU OK?? which was so sweet. The one took my bike back and gave it a run through of the gears, checked the brakes, etc, and everything was fine. He filled the tires up with air and that was that. Seriously. They checked my bike for free, entirely. I was standing there by the counter like ready to pay like $15 or something and that was it, go forth and ride. My parents shipped my fiance and I their old (but awesome and top notch) bikes from California. We put them together after they arrived with help from my dad over the phone, but didn't quite trust they were assembled correctly. And my front brake wasn't working so in fact we were positive they weren't assembled correctly. We brought them to Intown to have them checked out and they were wonderful! We called ahead and they said it would be $85 each for a tune up, and they'd have them ready in a week. However, upon arriving they inspected the bikes and said they just needed minor tweaks and could have them done while we waited. They fixed my breaks, replaced 2 tires, and made a couple other minor adjustments in about 20 minutes. They also adjusted our seats to the right heights, helped us pick out a helmet, and gave us a quick tutorial on shifting gears and hills. It was a fantastic experience and very reasonably priced. They also seemed genuinely excited about our "cool retro Schwinns" which made us even more excited about having them. This will definitely be our go-to shop for all bicycle needs. Ok, so I've only been here twice. Once was to drop my bike off for a tune-up, the second was to pick it up and get a few other supplies. The quick point: There was ZERO pressure. No upsell, no added gizmos, no judgmental attitude. And this is a bike shop? My el-cheapo bike had been in storage more than a year. Now it rides better than when I first bought it. Yeah, the full tune-up feels a bit pricey and requires a wait, but my bike feels better than new. They have a range of helmets, all of which are safe. They don't have a ridiculously confusing collection of lights, baskets, etc. They do have a few of each across a reasonable price range. If only they could tune up my legs for that damned hill. Oh well. Can't have everything easy. read more

Looked for about a week on-line, retail stores, and another bike shop. Finding we could spend a fortune and get a high end bike, buy el-cheapo at a retail store. We were resigned to by a bike on line and take our chances, or a high end cheaper but with no service on line. We decided we would stop at Intown after reading the reviews on Yelp. We walked in and were asked what we were interested in. We showed him a print out of the bike we were looking at buying online. His response what "Can I help you think it through starting from the basics?" We proceeded to take an hour to explain many things we had read and others that we had not even thought of. We ultimately decided to purchase a bike. Then to accessories. We purchased a few, but were actually talked out of one we thought we wanted and offered a cheaper alternative to another. I just tried these guys out for the first time for some minor repairs. What I found was a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere, an extremely quick repair while I waited, and a low price tag. About $15 got my rear cassette put back together, a cable housing replaced, and a newly adjusted rear derailleur. This was a fantastic experience. Why 4 stars and not 5. I thought the tune-up quote was a little high, and I would have liked to see more selection, and pricing for components and accessories that is more competitive with Performance Bikes. I just read a few other reviews, and hearing how they treated others, and didn't sweat any of the small stuff made me think that their prices are worth it. I would still like to see more selection, but I am giving them the ultimate 5-star salute. read more

Like the other reviewers, I was simply blown away. I hurt my knew a few weeks back and decided to get my first bike since I was 13 in an attempt to stay in shape. The staff was friendly and helpful in finding the right bike for me and setting me up for test rides. Most amazingly, they even understood when I wanted to leave to look at more bikes at another place before making the big purchase. Well, as soon as I got to said other place, I wanted to jump in my car and drive straight back. And I pretty much did. I'd love to say something anecdotal about how I'm ok with paying more just to keep merchants like this in business, but I don't even have to. Their bikes were priced better and, at least for me as a beginner, essentially equal in quality. Please consider Intown when buying your first/next bike. read more
