This place is great! I have a 1997 diesel Mercedes & wasn't sure I wanted to spring for a brand new battery, so they suggested a Group 49 used battery (which comes with a guarantee). 4/17/18 - I'm back in to Interstate Battery on Ventura Ave. Manager Jose Jimenez and his team have once again "knocked it out of the park" with over the top customer service. I had an older wet cell battery that was cranking slowly. They did a complete test and overnight charge and it's like new! These guys continue to be THE BEST! These guys were the best. On the phone Jose was very honest about possible time frames to complete the work. I can't stand when people tell you a job will take "just an hour" and you're still there four hours later. I pulled up my R.V., he took a look, and they started working immediately. OK....so less that two years ago we were traveling near Bakersfield, my battery gave up on me, so off to the Interstate franchise in Bakersfield. They didn't have the correct battery for my HHR so I took what they had just so we could get the car started. Paid full price and received a hand written receipt because of some computer issue. Fast forward to yesterday...took 20 month old battery to the Ventura distributor because of a dead cell...still had hand written receipt. They tell me there is a problem with the receipt...something in regards to not matching the battery...they say group 27, I say an MT-34. Irregardless the date stamp on the dead cell battery is within the warranty period. His employee's(two of them) stood at the desk using their fingers to count the number of months to be sure it was, in fact, still under warranty. The dead cell battery was dated August 2013, well within the two year replacement guarantee!!!! They state that with these hand written receipts it appears that the battery is stolen(first BAD statement on their part). After arguing with them about the receipt... I don't have a clue as to what Interstate of Bakersfield wrote down or what battery was put in my vehicle all I know is that the battery has a dead cell and its still under warranty. Make a long story short....after going back and forth for 20 minutes, they give us a battery. The Owner of the business goes into the back, removes the peel off sticker on this supposed NEW battery and presents it as such. Now...after going through all this, I am now somewhat educated on date codes on batteries....the supposed NEW battery is actually a 3 year old used battery(keeping in mind I returned a 20 month old battery under warranty)....the owner pulled the sticker off so that this old battery was not readily identified as being such(an old used battery) and the OWNER did not give us another receipt!!! So after arriving home and checking the code date via the internet on this so called replacement battery(H2) indicating a battery manufactured July 2012...I called them back to ask why they would give me a 3 year old battery as a replacement for a 20 month old battery. After a short argument with the OWNER...he told me, come on up here, man to man, and I'll give you your old battery back and you can take it someplace else....after which, he hung up on me. That, my friend, is what you call customer service. In summary, not only did Interstate Bakersfield put the wrong battery in my vehicle(which I was aware of), they screwed me on the receipt. Interstate Ventura, accussed us of stealing the battery, would not honor the stamped warranty, stated we had the wrong battery(group 27 not an MT-34 as the hand written receipt said...I know there wrong because I had taken it to a competitor who verified the model and told me it was still under warranty)..then proceeded to present a battery we believed to be new which in fact they knowingly were falsifying as new by removing the label and not issuing another receipt. Talk about BS......you gotta Love it. I'll never do business with them again!! Proceed at your own risk! PS I've also been told that as a policy Interstate no longer requires receipts for battery adjustments...that's after I searched for our paper receipt which I found under the car seat. I had an Exide dealer tell me that my battery was still under warranty and why didn't I return it to Interstate...so I did and here we are...it's almost funny. We have four vehicles in our family plus an RV with 6 batteries in it...all of which are Interstate but after this, I will go out of my way NOT to purchase another!! As a Maserati/ Ferrari service shop we had Interstate Batteries on display and happy to sell them to our customers as needed usually to replace defective old batteries often used Interstate batteries. However Richard decided that he didn't want us selling his batteries any longer due to warranty 7 replacements. If the battery is defective and the new replacement works and the car goes down the road happy again then it's the shop's fault??? It's a defective battery needing replacement. Never use interstate batteries poor quality and horrible customer service especially for this location. read more
