Came for dinner this time and vibes are still so fun and eclectic!! Our server was so kind and the food was yummy. I loved that you were cooking the steak yourself. Such good sweet potato fries. Drinks were just okay- not super impressed with their cocktails. Flavor combinations are a tad odd. Had fun regardless!
Insideout is easily one of the most stunning spots in San Diego! The rotating decor is absolutely breathtaking, making the entire space feel like an immersive, artful experience that changes with the seasons.The menu rotates too, and the food is just as impressive as the visuals. Every dish is incredibly cute, beautifully plated, and finely prepared with a clear attention to detail. The fish was exceptionally fresh, and the sushi was top-tier. To top it all off, the service was fantastic--the staff was warm, attentive, and really elevated the whole dining experience. If you want a meal that is both a feast for the eyes and the palate, this is the place to go!
The food and drinks were delicious, and we all had enough to take home for leftovers. The vibe of this place is magical, and our waiter (whose name has sadly slipped my mind) was energetic and made our visit extra enjoyable. Everyone should visit insideOUT while they're in San Diego!
This is a rare 5-star review for me; so far I have given less than 5 year to date. So, what that means is that it is easy to "Pump up the volume" for a review, thinking it's helping a place, but I vote based on what I like. What I like is 40% Service or Experience, 35% Food or Item(s) quality, and 25% CPA (Convenience, Price, and Ambiance), and I have a forgiveness factor. That being said, this place was so impressive, driving by multiple times and looking at it while looking for a parking space. I will tell you about the $80 ticket...later. When we walked in on a Thursday with a reservation, it was comfortably full like a Friday. I always say "an early reservation beats the rush," and it paid off because when we left, it became "nightclub" full of locals. The decor, later found out to be a themed restaurant, was so impressive with lights, foliage, and flowing water that I felt like a kid in Toys R' Us (R.I.P.). Our wait for being on time was less than my 15-minute patients, and we were seated in our requested "anywhere but near the kitchen" seating. Our waiter was very cordial and did not ask HAYD or CIHWA every 25 minutes, nor did he ignore us. We were left alone to eat. I know this because I saw him "eye-check our progress a couple of times." That's the sign of a good waiter/tress. Our special drinks were on point, and the large-portion dishes were a 4.5 by themselves. As a high-quality home chef and a military chow line platter, I was impressed with the presentation, so I had to ensure my camera skills paid homage. I suggest finding a place to park and walking to the restaurant if you drove, because the alleyway to the right of the entrance is patrolled. :0) Can't wait to return and try something new and see what the theme is. I suggest making a reservation because you won't get a table by walking in and "enjoying the experience of eating" there.
Love this place! Super cute seasonal decor all the time, it's such a gorgeous restaurant perfect for birthday dinner as girls dinners, etc. I love coming for happy hour and this time we got these really two cute drinks. The service was great and the drinks were even better! Parking can be a little bit difficult in the area, but it's in a super walkable spot. Note that the bathrooms are up against a window, so passerbyers can see your feet under the stall, along with you washing your hands afterward!
InsideOUT is known to be a hip spot in the heart of hillcrest, SD. Very LGBTQ fun vibes, loud music playing in the background, etc. They refer to it as an urban oasis, located within a residential red building (Eitol Towers) So, for RSVP's online, it won't let you book for one person, so I decided to walk-in for the experience. Luckily, I was able to get a seat when I walked in. The host was super nice and explained how the table seating worked. I chose to sit in the outdoor area; it has different levels as well. Down below, you can see the lively ambiance happening with the other clients. A bar surrounded by groups and having a great time. A nice waterfall decoration running behind the bar. Has the aesthetics of a nice upscale bar/lounge. Restroom are shared with both genders, male and female. So don't be alarmed when visiting here and using the restrooms. They play pop music in the background which can definitely get you in the mood. Menu is Mediterranean based as well. For my experience, the service was a bit slow, but eventually I got my drink and an appetizer. Prices are on the higher end here, FYI. Maybe because it was during Happy hour and it was busy. I decided to order one of their cocktails and went with Evan Williams Old Fashioned (evan williams bourbon, black walnut bitters, demerara syrup) 5/5 smooth and delicious, for those who are fans of whiskey this is a must try. For food, I went with a fancy appetizer: BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIB TERRINE (served cold with cherry-fig mostarda, dijon, house pickled vegetables, toasted baguette) I was not a fan of how the beef was served because it just reminded me of "wet dog food" but I still ate some of it. I really enjoyed the fig jam with the toasted baguette. 3/5 This spot is more appropriate for groups or dates, I came alone to experience the "hype" but really, in my opinion, it is too "hyped up" on social media. It was an "ok" experience. I'm not no influencer either so I'm being honest.
I went to InsideOUT with a few friends the other night and the space itself is definitely the highlight. The inside is so cool and hard to fully describe, but it feels like you're being transported into a tropical oasis. The atmosphere alone makes it worth checking out. As for the food, it was just okay. We ordered the cheese board, Brussels sprouts, tartine, prawns, and the lemongrass chicken. Nothing was bad at all, but nothing really stood out either or felt especially memorable. I'd still go back because the vibe is great, and I've heard they have a fantastic brunch that I'd love to try next time.
I am dying to come back during a holiday for when it is more decorated! I loved this place and the service. Can't wait to come back.
Definitely 5 stars place. Very picturesque and fairly tale spot. Gorgeous! Very gorgeous! Its worth to wait for table. Reservation is the most! Parking is lil bit too tricky. Customer service is the greatest...Food was delicious. I ordered salad with shrimp and there is no doubt that they marinated shrimp very carefully and grilled one by one! Everything was very balanced taste wise. I cant wait try this place at night while the brunch time the menu is very limited but quality. The entrance is 18+ so no kids and its adult heaven. Very chill and unique! Be prepared to take lit of gorgeous pictures!
We tried out this spot while in the area and it was a great find. It's located beneath an apartment complex, with a large patio area that was vibrantly contemporary. Our waitress was nice and explained their menu to us. We kicked off the meal with IO's Chips & Dip, Marrakech margarita and saffron sultan old fashioned. The chips were light and crispy and paired well with the creamy dip. We tried to order the Australian hot stone but they ran out, so we opted for the applewood smoked pork chop and unagi glazed Atlantic salmon. The salmon was plump, not too salty and wasn't overpowered by the ponzu broth. The pork had a unique flavor of sweet and savory and was well balanced together. We capped off the night with their crema catalina that was perfectly sweet and creamy. Definitely try this spot if you're in the area but get there a bit early from the dinner rush to avoid missing out on some dishes.
Popped in for drinks and I had the new version of the old fashion and it was superb. It quite sure about the decoration on it but it was tasty. They have a new Mediterranean theme which is great. Much more understated than most themes but very. I've.
What a great experience this was. We had a great seat next to the small pond inside the restaurant. We were celebrating my birthday and, just the seating alone, made this a special experience. The server was great. We asked lots of questions and they were answered quickly with great recommendations. We were there for brunch.I had the tender kale & roasted butternut squash scramble. My friend had the simple breakfast. We both really enjoyed our choices. For my birthday, they provided a wonderful chocolate cake. Everything is yummy. I highly recommend making reservations. They get very crowded. Check their hours too. They are unusual and have brunch and dinner on some days.
Last night was one of my top dining experiences. Everything about IO was great. Literally every bite and sip was so delicious. And the decor was so thoughtful, refined yet relaxing. My friend is ready to redecorate his place with Moroccan lamps now. The only negative was our fault...we decided to go two days ago and the only reservation left was at 8:45. I think IO more beautiful at night, so we were looking forward to it nonetheless. We arrived around 8 and ordered a bottle of wine in the waiting area/courtyard ramp. Such an interesting layout, but it works! We got to sit at a table right next to the waterfall and pond. Our server was very nice. Probably the only slip-up in service, was that our main came out when we had barely put a dent in apps. We were probably chatting and sipping on wine too much? The expo realized, kept the mains, and said take your time. Then he brought out mains when we were ready. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. My friend and I decided to both get the steak on the hot stone. It comes out raw and you have to keep track of time to cook it how you like it. You can choose flavored salts and butters and sauces for the side. We also shared the pickled strawberry salad. It had lots of toppings, flavor, and textures. The pozole verde was also excellent.

Been here a few times now for different themes and the atmosphere, food and drinks have never disappointed me. I always go with girlfriends for a night out, so it's bound to be a good experience, but the cuteness of this place definitely helps. I've been once for brunch and sat outside, and three times if I remember correctly for dinner inside. Always a good experience. Parking can be a bit of a challenge some nights but I've never been further away than a few blocks in the neighborhood. It's worth the effort of finding parking. I so wish I could take my daughter here because she would love it and would take a million pictures but she's not of the right age yet. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning right when it opened and had to wait a bit for those with reservations to be seated first. Upon being seated as a party of two, I was disappointed that my partner and I were chosen to sit at the very top of the stairway area when there were so many other seats available at the bottom of the restaurant. It's not that big of a deal, but we were literally the only ones there, and the top honestly didn't quite feel like part of the restaurant, more like an office backyard. Anyways, we ordered the Shakshuka and Kalua Pork Benedict. The Kalua Pork Benedict was okay. The eggs were cooked perfectly, with the yolk running down when you cut into them. The pork was super flavorful and not hot but warm. The bread beneath it was soaked and super moist. Not sure if it was from this "discolored hollandaise sauce" on the plate (see image) or from the meat, but it sort of ruined the texture. The mac and cheese was very creamy and cheesy, though - delicious. The Shakshuka had a flavorful piperade sauce; however, I think it was way too strong to the point where the tomatoes and bell peppers overpowered the whole dish. I also wish they had provided more chorizo because there was so little compared to all the veggies, and it was in tiny little chunks mixed into the sauce. Overall, my experience could've been a lot better. I feel like this place is great for the vibes (especially during pop-up seasons) and for people looking to get some drinks and relax. As for me, I was there for the food, and it was quite disappointing. The staff could also be a bit more attentive, but again, I'm not sure if that was because we were literally alone at the top for a while, or if that's considered normal. read more
We had a great time here. We made a reservation about a month in advance and were able to experience the Christmas extravaganza. It was fantastic. My friends loved their cocktails and I enjoyed my glass of wine. Our entire group loved the garlic bread app. So much, that we ended up ordering two. The food itself was good, but you really can't beat the atmosphere. read more

I've been to InsideOUT a few times for drinks and it's always a good time but this Sparkle Nights Christmas experience was next level. They are typically closed on Mondays but had special tickets for just this experience ($35 which includes a cocktail and open seating). It was nice on the Monday as it wasn't too crowded. Several Christmas drinks which were tasty and small bites (sweet potatoe fries and chips and dip) were good for a nibble. The deco and lights are amazing, to certain songs they did light shows and then it also snows!! Service was spot on and it's pretty reasonably priced. This has got to be the best Christmas experience in San Diego! read more

My partner and I recently visited InsideOUT in San Diego, and overall, the experience was a mix of exceptional hospitality and disappointing customer service. From the moment we arrived, Leo, the hostess, was incredibly sweet, welcoming, and inviting. We originally had a reservation for four people, but only two of us ended up attending. Despite the change, we were accommodated graciously and seated at a table with an amazing view, which really elevated the experience. Our waiter, Chris, was outstanding and knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Based on his recommendation, I ordered the Un-Pear-able cocktail, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The food, atmosphere, and service from the front-of-house staff made for what was shaping up to be a wonderful evening. Unfortunately, the highlight of the evening was overshadowed by an interaction with Chef Johnny. While dining, I noticed a bridal party of seven celebrating their friend who was getting married. They were struggling to find a way to get everyone into a group photo, so I offered to help. After taking a few pictures from the floor, I briefly stood on the couch for about 5-10 seconds to get a better angle for them. During that moment, Chef Johnny approached me and said, "Is that how you act at home?" The comment came across as unnecessarily snarky, condescending, and rude. Had there been a concern about standing on the furniture, a polite request would have been completely understandable. Instead, the interaction felt disrespectful and left a sour impression at the end of an otherwise enjoyable visit. It's unfortunate because the hostess, our waiter, the atmosphere, and the overall dining experience were excellent. However, customer interactions matter, and the way this situation was handled by Chef Johnny reflected poorly on an establishment that otherwise demonstrated great hospitality read more

this is now going to be a tradition. We go here every year for the last four years to see the Christmas celebration. Have some good cocktails and see this now the service was fantastic. Malcolm was excellent for a quick and brought us food hot had a great experience. I'm a little bummed that they don't have all the Christmas decorations out like they did last year. read more

Went there again a week after this time with my girlfriend. Again the service was great, the food was wonderfully delicious and the ambiance well no questions probably most festive themed holiday decorated in San Diego. One thing to note is it located next to the Hillcrest farmers market on Sundays so make allowance for time to find parking. The other thing is during Sunday brunch, there is snow that is magically made and softly falls into the restaurant (it happens at the top of the hour on Sundays.). If you can't get reservations there is open sitting at a first come first serve basis. Props to Sky ...she was lots of help. read more
I LOVE finding gems like this that have good vibes when I'm traveling. Not only is this place instagramable, the drinks and food are good! There is no shortage of photo ops with the pretty backdrop of cherry blossoms and the waterfall feature. This indoor/outdoor space is so unique - 10/10! I had a couple of cocktails, both good: good morning sunshine and prick my cactus. Bonus from our awesome bartender was a peach vodka shot. Super yummy! I ordered a Caesar salad and seasonal French toast. The challah bread was so moist, it's also made in house. Hubs ordered filet and eggs. They bring out the steak on a hot stone, and you sear, season and cook to your liking. This was a fab start to our visit and I'm so glad we came. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday for brunch on the last day of the cherry blossom decoration. Parking was a bit of a pain because there was a farmers market going on and it's street parking. The cherry blossom decoration was super cute! Great photo op. Our waiter was also kind enough to snap a few photos for us. We had the shakshuka and the loco moco. Both dishes were decent and the presentation was nice. I also got a drink which I believe was on a seasonal menu and it was pretty good. The dessert we got was some type of cake and it was just okay. They have a separate dessert menu, not the sweets section of the menu, so ask the waiter if you're curious. Overall I think the place was cute, food was okay and service was good. It was one of those places where you had to try once just to see the decor. read more
This place was really special. I went with my parents for an early dinner the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The restaurant was lively, and we were seated right away. The inside was beautifully decorated with ornaments, lights, and Christmas trees, which gave it a warm and festive feel. Our server was very attentive even though the restaurant was full. We ordered two mocktails during happy hour: a strawberry mock mule and a blackberry faux jito. The strawberry drink was sweet and bubbly, while the blackberry one was refreshing. The food was just as impressive. We started with the chips and dip, which were delicious. The caramelized onion and sour cream dip paired perfectly with the salty, vinegary homemade chips. The Spanish grilled octopus was smoky, and the shishito peppers were grilled to perfection. For our entrées, we ordered the grilled seabass, which was tender with a crispy outside. The pancetta was creamy and went well with the potatoes, spinach, and fish. The ragu was also incredible. The chunks of meat were rich, and the pasta was chewy and hand pulled. We found this place on a list of "10 prettiest restaurants in SoCA". It looked so gorgeous that we decided to drive down to San Diego and see for ourselves. We LOVE this place. The service is stellar, the atmosphere is absolutely stunning, and the food is quite good. We ordered two mocktails (we had our fill last night!) that were refreshingly delicious. The peach, rosemary, mock mule and the strawberry lemonade faux-jito which were both a bit sweet and a bit tart, with light carbonation. Yummy for a Sunday brunch. I ordered the Shashuka, which is something I make at home. I was secretly hoping mine would be better, and although it's a bit different, this sugar was absolutely delicious. It had strips of peppers, onions, and a delicious tomato spicy base, with a really nice chorizo in it as well. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the dish was not too big, it's served with bread for dipping and you do want to dip!! My babe, ordered the Montecristo, which was a giant stack of deliciousness, ham and cheese, powdered sugar on top...served with strawberry jam. Now the menu does say raspberry jam, which we would've preferred, but it's like breakfast dessert and your protein, all in one. We spent half an hour, just taking pictures and then looking at the pictures and then taking more pictures. The place is absolutely beautiful. And everyone else is doing the same thing, so if you like people watching this is the space to do it. read more
I've been here twice now for 2 different themes, the Alice in Wonderland theme and the "Pink" theme. The Alice in Wonderland theme is much better than the Pink theme, as there are more flowers and different colors. The pink theme is just a lot of fake cherry blossom trees, which is still pretty. I've come for brunch and dinner. The dinner I had the shortrib which I really enjoyed , and brunch i ordered the Loco Moco as you don't see it that often. The Loco Moco wasn't as good as I've had in Hawaii but still pretty good. I did try the strawberry shortcake french toast which was sweet but very yummy. The brunch was a lot more reasonable priced then the dinner. One thing I'll mention is you get better seating if you have a smaller party. The first time there were 3 of us and we were seated in a spot right near the water and all of the decorations. The 2nd visit there were several of us and they sat us way at the top, and the 2 end seats were right next to a metal part of the table that hutted out, and hurt the knees of those sitting there. It was extremely uncomfortable. We asked to move but nothing was available. I definitely think this is a beautiful venue that is great for photo ops and would suggest checking it out. It can get very busy when they have a themed event and reservations can sell out far in advance. Keep an eye on their Instagram and they will give you information and announcements about the reservations and when they open. read more

I LOVE the decorations at the place. You really are transported to another place when you sit here. We stopped by this spot to get some drinks while waiting for our dinner reservation. In the garden, you can grab a seat and enjoy the ambiance of the place. Anyone that is around the area MUST check this place out. read more

Came here on Halloween night and this was a great experience! The servers were very attentive and the food was great. I got the mussels and tagliatelle, and the portion was generous. The mussels and pasta were fresh and delicious! I also got the prickly pear mock mule and it was refreshing and tart. The restaurant had such a pretty interior. Recommend this place! read more

I had to bring my family after a wonderful experience during their Valentine's event. The spring decorations were very pretty and we came at 4pm to take pictures in a nearly empty venue. Food was delicious and our server, Julian, was very attentive and fantastic. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for both a delicious and aesthetic time. read more

Insideout is one of those absolutely fabulous SD gems that I hope never goes out of business. It's like a Disneyland ride turned into a restaurant, in the most non-obnoxious way. They also have a FANTASTIC happy hour which is rare for SD i've noticed - Drinks actually under $10. We started with happy hour drinks which were all great. As a vegetarian I was a bit disappointed in the offerings as there was not much for me besides a few salads. I went with sides instead - brussel sprouts and potatoes which both arrived cold, however they did have good flavor. I'd likely return again for the scenery and happy hour alone but not the food. Also getting a reservation on Opentable does not guarantee you a spot in the patio, you might be placed far away by the windows/bar. read more
I've been trying to eat here for a while and finally snagged a reservation. First of all the place is really cutely decorated. For spring they did a lively cherry blossom decor. Very cool space a tad noisy but we were able to hear our dining mates. Service was very good. We ordered salmon ceaser salad, and braised lamb. Portions were quite generous and the food was good. Unfortunately the menu is very short and they had just changed it so the shirt rib I was dying to try was no longer available. That was my only real disappointment. I discovered the restaurant through social media and definitely wanted to dine here when I made a trip to SD. I made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and was excited all the way up to the front door. I saw that people were recommending to sit outdoors, so that's what we ended up doing. Upon entering, the decor and overall vibe really stood out. I think they are currently in the "Enchanted" theme, so it gave off a romantic/smokey vibe. We were fortunate enough to grab seats right next to the pond, which made the whole afternoon/early evening feel like dining in an aesthetic garden. The restaurant staged small smoke shows in intervals, which definitely added to the drama and the experience of it all; the spectacle was definitely a nice touch. As for the food (the most important), we had a few dishes: --The Spanish Octopus (appetizer) was fantastic! It was tender, flavorful and a clear highlight. The sauce was so good that we tried to get every bit of it with the octopus (pre-cut into pieces). Highly recommended. --The Penn Cove Mussels & Tagliatelle (pasta entree) lacked a bit of sauce for our preference, but after asking for a bit more sauce, the dish definitely improved. It didn't blow our minds but it wasn't bad either. Definitely ask for a bit more sauce. --The Filet Mignon came with an Australian Hot Stone, which they explained allows us to cook the filet to our liking. So, they cook it rare and bring it out with potatoes and a choice of different butters. It's like any other filet, but cooking it yourself makes it a nice experience. --The Smoky Bosc Pear (dessert) was definitely another highlight. It definitely was a combination of many flavors but it works! We were so glad that we had it recommended to us and we got to try it. Highly recommended. The drink complemented every dish very well and the service was excellent. Our server was amazing and even offered to bring a blanket since it was a bit chilly out. So, dress accordingly, if you're going to stay outside. It wasn't as cold as we though it would have been since it is surrounded by a residence building. The food wasn't anything to be blown away by but the appetizers and dessert are definitely worth. I would definitely want to try other dishes on the menu when I visit again. As for parking, there is construction going on in the neighborhood streets next to the restaurant, so plan on parking further or across the street. The walk isn't bad and if you go during the weekdays, there is plenty of parking. The food isn't cheap but it definitely is an enjoyable dining experience! read more

We showed up on Sunday for brunch with no reservations. Thought the wait would be long. The host greeted us and told us it would be 15 minutes. Great! Decided we were going to walk along the Farmer Market and a minute later we get the table ready text!! The service was great. Our server was attentive, friendly, and prompt. The food was really good. Lot of good flavors and cooked right. I recommend the potatoes as substitute. Obviously the bubbly made it better. But then there is the whole experience in their garden area. It had a sort of Alice in Wonderland feel. It was cool to take pictures of the plants, trees, and butterflies. Oh and the giant mushroom. The bathroom is its own experience. read more
Repeat visitor, first review. Met Executive Chef Johnny Duran and his latest menu nails the heat levels--the Swordfish and NY Strip were perfectly spiced and beautifully plated. Cocktails are also a standout here: from the Enchanted Oasis specials to the regular and happy-hour lists, everything we tried (Blackberry Faux-jito, Down the Rabbit Hole, Churro Brew) was balanced and not overly sweet. Dessert was a Smoky Bosc Pear unveiled from a smoky dome--fun finish. Great service, lush patio, and rotating themes make InsideOUT an easy recommend. read more

How can I go about reserving a table on a Friday say around 5pm a week prior? I tried looking on open table app and nothing is available? Does that mean the reservations are full a week in advance?
