This place rocks! The service was great and food was top notch. Our server asked all the right questions and gave us options. The atmosphere is amazing. I'll definitely be back. read more

This is an outstanding little inn. I stayed 2 nights on Orcas Island with a friend. It is not far outside of Eastsound, the main little town on Orcas Island. The location is gorgeous right on the water. Our room had a balcony with a view of the lovely grounds and the sound and a lot of privacy. The room was spacious, super clean, with pretty decor, and free sodas/drinks. We also had an included breakfast which was continental with nice fruit, granola etc. Free wi-fi only in the lobby/back porch area. There is a back lawn and places to lounge overlooking the views where we spotted a bald eagle. The inn is very quaint and quiet. The owners seem to pay a lot of attention to detail. I think the price is very reasonable for what you get! I would definitely stay here again. read more

This is a review for just the restaurant. It's really excellent -- we go there every time we're on Orcas. Just beautifully prepared food, a big chunk of it consisting of fruits and vegetables grown at the Inn and seafood harvested in the local area. It's a very special place, only a wee bit less perfect than my very favorite on Orcas, the Doe Bay Café. read more

What an amazing place. If visiting Orcas Island this place is a must stop by.. Food is amazing-fresh and just melts in your mouth. This is our first time visiting orcas island and we just came upon this place. I'm glad we did. Pleasant people and great amazing food!!!! read more

We came to dinner the first day that the restaurant was open for service in 2021. There was no wait. The staff was very friendly and the view was gorgeous. I ordered the scallops. My daughter and my husband had the halibut. My youngest daughter and my son-in-law had the wagyu burger. The burgers were okay but both the top and bottom buns were terribly charred. Everything else was delicious. My only problem is the portion size. We are all small people and when we left the restaurant we were still hungry. Seriously. For the price we paid, we shouldn't have left hungry. I needed something else - a roll, a side salad, something. And the burger needed some type of side, like potatoes of some sort. We had to go to the gas station down the street afterwards for a snack. I would come again, as the choices on orcas island are very limited, but next time I would eat dinner somewhere else and come here for dessert! read more

Summer 2019: I understand there is a worker shortage on Orcas because housing is in high demand (and business owners should try to figure out what to do about that!) but this Inn has a restaurant (fabulous food, btw) that doesn't SERVE BREAKFAST. :-( read more

When we lived in Seattle my husband took me on a 30th birthday trip to the San Juan Islands (astoundingly gorgeous part of the world) and surprised me with dinner one night at the Inn at Ship Bay. I have to say, it was absolutely PERFECT (and that was not the champagne talking)! The ambiance, the view (we didn't even have a "waterfront" table but the cozy interior and view out of the numerous windows was still breathtaking) the food, the waitstaff - everything - was just perfect! I can only hope we make it back there some day! read more

We visited here in April and we were so happy that we just booked another night instead of heading back to Seattle. The first thing you notice is how lovely the property as you drive up; perfectly situated on the water - every room seems to have a gorgeous view. Then you get greeted by Luke, who is wonderful and gave us some great pointers about the island and was incredibly hospitable. The room (207) has a lovely bed, comfy seating area, very clean bathroom, TV (didn't use), fridge (did use), free Wi-fi (unexpectedly didn't use much since we found ourselves sitting on our balcony with a book instead of on our phones or computer), and a gas log fireplace. The restaurant is as fabulous as everyone is saying. The service in the inn and dining room is exceptional. The menu was terrific and everything was local and incredibly fresh. We're from the SF Bay Area where everyone is touting farm-to-fork and sourcing locally, but it doesn't get much more local and fresh than this. Scallops, oysters (with a lemon granita garnish), lamb, local greens with blue cheese...and a lemon dessert that kept us blissfully silent for a good 10 minutes. The food isn't fussy or overdone - just delicious and elegant. We met Mary Anna at breakfast - lovely as well. It's obvious every detail is paid attention to here - music, decor, presentation, artwork, quality of everything. read more

We had a truly fabulous dinner last night during our trip. Found a babysitter for the kids and then had ourselves a wonderful dinner. Excellent food, lovely wine, attentive service, stunning views, and great company. 98% of the fruit and vegetables in our meal cane from the garden just outside. The scallops were heavenly and the wagyu beef was silky. The clams were fresh and amazing. Thank you for a lovely meal. read more

Note: This review is for the restaurant only... we didn't stay at the hotel portion of the facility. We went to eat at the restaurant at the Inn at Ship Bay on the recommendation of a co-worker and visitor bureau propaganda. Since it was a nice restaurant, we made a reservation and showed up on time. The place was decently busy, but for a Friday night, I was surprised that there were as many empty tables as there were. After we were seated, we received our menus and were told that our server would be back to tell us the specials. Several minutes later, the server finally came back and slowly read the specials from a piece of paper. When asked whether they had any wines by the glass, she pulled out a handwritten piece of notepaper and put it on the table in front of me. I ordered wine, and she left to retrieve it. Several minutes later she came back and we ordered an appetizer and entrees. Someone brought us some chewy bread (note to restaurant: there either needs to be salt on the table, or you need to provide salted butter, since the bread and the butter were each tasteless), and our appetizer showed up. We ate and finished the appetizer, and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually - at least 30 minutes after we had finished our appetizers (and I am not exaggerating) - the server came by and said she had "just checked" and our meal was "next up." We finally got our entrees nearly an hour after we had been seated. The food was decent, though nothing to write home about. The steak was a bit tough, and the vegetables slightly undercooked. Needless to say, we have had better. Bottom line, save your money -- go to one of the many other restaurants on Orcas Island. There are many others that tout fresh ingredients, unique menus, and home-grown food. While we only made it to two other restaurants for dinner while on the island, our experiences at both were much better than at Inn at Ship Bay. read more

Everything here was great! I am really picky about gourmet food... I liked everything. The duck was awesome, just bursting with flavor. My favorite thing was the special dessert. Blueberry and nectarine cobbler! It was soooo refreshing! My dad had a chicken dish that he really loved. Orcas Island in general is cute! I recommend going to orcas island!! read more

The food was absolutely fabulous!! We had a varied selection from the menu in our party everything was delicious. The place has a fantastic view as well. Also my complements to our server who provided impeccable and friendly service. We definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the island. Completely charming experience. read more

We stayed for Thanksgiving 11 years ago and now we go back as often as possible. The food is out of this world!!! Mary Anna and Geddes have made something truly special. For me the quiet getaway and stunning surroundings have become the place I go to check out. Leave the cellphone at home, slow your blood pressure and relax. One visit we had the unbelievable pleasure of watching new born eagles having flying lessons above our deck. Heaven on earth! read more

Inn at Ship Bay is a great place to stay on Orcas, really glad I found for a mid-April get-away. The state rooms are clean, roomy, comfortable, with nice furniture and decorating. Great continental breakfast. I loved the 2nd floor balcony and was treated to an eagle show. Two adult and three juvenile eagles were hanging out nearby and flying in and out of trees just at edge of property. Beautiful view across East Sound. Overall a very relaxing spot to stay on beautiful Orcas Island. read more

Truly outstanding food. Every element is nuanced and delictible. They have truly embraced the farm to table concept and their staff should be proud of the literal and figurative fruits of their efforts. read more

Wow , wow , wow ! Very impressed with the flavor, the presentation and prices . You can have a dinner like this in Seattle and end up paying twice as much, the desserts are amazing , they use local fresh produce, local seafood and local meats. So good we had dinner here three nights in a row because we wanted to try the whole menu , which by the way changes every week ! read more

The location and setting is lovely. The tasting menu is overpriced. In hindsight, we should have just ordered off the main menu.

Please go -- this is as good as it gets: fresh vegetables from their farm, perfectly prepared bread, entrees, desserts, friendly waitstaff. We ended up going 2 nights because despite the price the food was remarkable!! Don't hesitate! p.s. we emailed after we came back for their candied almond recipe and they promptly responded! p.s.s. these are yum! read more

A wonderful spot in every way. We enjoyed an excellent dinner here, complemented by a lovely view of wisteria vines, rustic split-rail fence along the edge of the bluff, and bay and forested hills beyond, all lit with evening sunlight. The salad course, scallops, and lemon cake dessert were all delicious and very nicely presented, and they were sensibly portioned so we left comfortably sated but not overstuffed. I especially enjoyed how much of the meal came from the gardens on the grounds, and it was fun to walk around after dinner to see where things were grown. read more

We ate at a table in the bar, and had a nice view of the water. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed, and staff were courteous, efficient and friendly without being intrusive or obsequious. The food was excellent: the steak and salmon were cooked just right, the accompaniments were very good, and the wine list was very nice as well. We will definitely be back when on Orcas Island. read more

While we did not stay here, my wife and I ate here based on the reviews in Moon Guidebooks. This place is fantastic. Gorgeous, romantic location and delectable food using local produce. No other place like it on the island. If we lived in Seattle, I would go for the night for the atmosphere and the food. A great getaway. read more

This is the best. I was a little unsure about the inn since I usually stay at Fairmont or Four Season Hotels. The room had an unbelievable view, it was stylish and cozy and spotless. The cable was out on Orcas Island but my wife and I spent the night watching one of the inn's complimentary videos - Sideways. The restaurant was excellent. I had the Mad Hatcher chicken which was perfectly tender and mmm-mmm savory, and she had steak with little Italian onions. Service was great. read more

Hands down best fine dining on Orcas. Vibrant, seasonal, local, and amazing!

One of the best meal ever! Seated promptly. Very gracious staff. Idyllic setting. Our party of six (including a very nice seven year old) ordered the following starters: Penn Cove Mussels, Arctic Char, Oysters on the Half Shell, Dungeness Crab Salad and lo and behold Mangalitsa pork belly that blew my... mind. The owners Mary Anna and Geddes raise their own wooly pigs, vegetables, fruits and herbs. For entrees: Troll Caught Wild King Salmon, Melt in your mouth Grass Fed Beef Hanger Steak, Sea Scallops and... Mangalitsa Pork Loin. Eclectic, creative, sophisticated and reasonably priced wine list. For desserts I decided to have another serving of the Mangalitsa Pork Belly. Crazy I know. But once you have tasted Mangalitsa you will not go back. Creme fraiche Ice Cream as well as orange Ice Cream and Cantaloup sorbet, Baked Alaska, a fruit galette. All of the plates were composed plates with locally grown organic vegetables. The pace was measured, the timing perfect. You will not leave hungry. Perfect portions. Seattle could use a restaurant like the Inn At Ship Bay. No pretension, no attitude, world class food and service at very reasonable prices considering what you are getting. Super value. read more

My wife and I went to Orcas for our wedding anniversary and stayed at Rosario Resort. We went to Inn At Ship Bay one night for dinner and had a wonderful dinner here. My wife had a salmon dinner that was "perfect" (her words not mine) and my steak dinner was just outstanding. The use of local ingredients and the preparation made the meal just amazing. Very Good - don't leave Orcas Island without having a dinner here read more

Don't bother making a reservation unless you are a well known local swell. We had reservation for 7:15 and arrived 10 minutes early. At 7:15 on the dot another couple walked in and apologized for being early for their 7:30 reservation. "You don't won't need to wait", oozed the obsequious maitre d'. 5 minutes later the same scene played out, to the snotty word. The shabbiest treatment I've ever been subjected to in a restaurant. read more

This was out first time visiting the beautiful San Juan Islands. Our travel companions had booked our rooms at the inn. After a long day and night of traveling, we arrived after 11 p.m. and someone was there waiting to check us in and show us our rooms. The rooms were spacious with comfortable king-sized beds, a gas stove and roomy bathroom. There was a separate wetbar-type counter in the hallway with Seattle's Best coffee and half and half, water and soft drinks. The complimentary breakfast had fresh granola, fruit and pear muffins. The view from the back of the inn was gorgeous and the smell of lavender plants that surrounded the garden was wonderful. We had heard that the restaurant was great but it was closed during our stay. read more

Great service! Phenomenal farm to table food! Gorgeous grounds! We only wish we would have stayed here instead of the awful Rosario Resort, as the Inn at Ship Bay truly knows how to deliver great customer service. Thanks for a lovely dinner on our honeymoon! read more

We decided to come here despite going to Rosario and Madrona. It is pretty pricey compared to the other two restaurants. Asked if we could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view. Our sever said no problem but as soon as we were leaving, the greeter came and stopped us since she has to Che k. After 1 1/2 hours there the outside table remain unseated. They were having a six courses menu and we decided to try it since it was my husband's birthday. Everything was very good except the dessert. It's house made ice cream and donuts served with chocolate and blackberry. Presentation was very good but had higher expectation for the ending. read more

Just go - we had tastier menu as celebration of 25 years marriage and it was more special than I could have hoped for - sitting outside at small table with view of the garden, bay and mountains - glorious. Staff were lovely to us as well! Highly memorable! read more

No idea why no one on the Island recommended this place. It was marvelous. White tables, good service and a fresh/local menu with something for everyone. The service was delightful and friendly from the hostess (thank you for making our res after our lunch at Skillet) to the lovely table staff. I'd go again in an instant.Do order the flourless chocolate cake. read more

I've stayed here twice and both times I was blown away. The rooms are great - comfy bed, cozy stove, roomy bathroom. The staff is great. They made sure we had everything we needed to stay happy. But I gotta say - it's the restaurant that got me on the ferry and over to Orcas. The food is amazing. I ate like a pig but still felt good after dinner. Not bloated and overstuffed - I felt healthy and satisfied. What a concept! We had a half bottle of Grgich Fume Blanc, which is a favorite of mine. And a half bottle was just right. I just love it at the Inn and it's definitely worth the trip! read more

By far, one of the most beautiful properties to have a wedding on Orcas! After dining at the Inn with my family and having a wonderful gourmet meal and fantastic service, I was moved to want to have my wedding ceremony on the resort's property overlooking the bay a couple of days later. The manager was wonderful and kind to work with and was able to accommodate our small ceremony with no hassles at the last moment. The property is just picture perfect with manicured lawns, flowers everywhere, a small pond and bridge which were nice for pictures and a breathtaking view of the bay! We had a very quite, private spot for our ceremony. We also had a beautiful sunny day on July 26th and I feel so grateful to have found such an amazing wedding spot. I would love to stay at the Inn at Ship Bay on our next visit to Orcas and the food is worth definitely going back for again! read more

As an update, the innkeeper called us, addressed our concerns, and was very gracious and generous. I would definitely consider a return visit as they are aware of, and fixing the problem! read more

Review of the restaurant only. Ship Bay is among the top three eating establishments on the island. Service has been solid - not amazing or memorable, but good on all of our occasions except one. Some of the staff can be a bit snotty and is probably behind a bad review or two on here (I"m a local and don't get any special treatment here btw) One has to plan ahead of time and make reservations very early on Orcas or you're going to be disappointed. But, the food here is fresh and local. There are some great specials and inventive concoctions. Good wine selection, cool bar, awesome ambience and view. It is a safe bet to have dinner here and feel that you had a unique experience on the island. read more

Stayed at the Inn this past weekend with my BFF, the location is gorgeous, accommodations tasteful, comfortable, excellent service. Sitting on the balcony gazing out at the water sipping beer in the evening and coffee in the morning. Continental breakfast with the most amazing and delicious scones and muffins (muffins were loaded with fresh local blueberries!). The restaurant was divine, Geddes will create delicious dishes for those with particular dietary requests, and the presentation is gorgeous. They have a huge vegetable/fruit garden, and apple and pear trees throughout the property. I wanted to stay forever! read more

Such a delicious dinner! My husband and another couple went here for dinner and I have gone awhile back before (it was good then). Dinner was yummy! We started with the pate and mussels (they came out in a bowl organized like and big flower (very pretty), my husband had scallops, I had the beef with wasabi mashed potatoes and mushrooms, and the couple had the razor clams. The scallops were cooked perfectly and my dinner I dreamed about for good 2 days afterward. We all had dessert...which was a little small, we had ice cream and it looked like it was only about a tablespoon amount on the plate. But otherwise Excellent dinner overall! read more

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we were sent by many others in the community to the restaurant. I had scallops and my boyfriend had their pork speciality. We both agreed this was the best pork dish we've ever had. If they have pork on the menu, whatever the cut, get it! read more

Had high hopes due to reviews here and a local referral but was very disappointed. The $16 pork belly appetizer was a very thin slice (think cheap bacon) which was cooked way past crispy. The smoke salmon appetizer was mostly potatoes, though the flavor of the few prices of fish was very nice. The artic char special was cooked perfectly and was very fresh. The duck was horrible - breast piece was very small and over cooked, the skin was not done and the fat not rendered off. Makes me think the chef does it know how to properly cook a duck breast. The lentils which accompanied the duck were delicious- lots of deep beef (!) flavor. Desserts were equally disappointing. The fruit crisp contained very little fruit so was mostly a ramekin of oats, nuts and sugar. The chocolate cake should have been advertised as a 'small bite' it was littler than most brownies!! For what you pay here, it all should have been MUCH better. We won't be back. read more
