Mad Hatter Chiken
Daniel M.

This review is for the restaurant. The food is amazing. The vegetables, apples, and pears are all grown on the property. The freshness and flavor shine through. We had the Mad Hatter Chicken and Scallops. Highly recommend.

Wagyu Beef Burger

We were so excited to try this place out, and I'm glad we did because it ended up being our best meal of our entire honeymoon! This restaurant is located on the same grounds as the inn. They do not take reservations, so we went around 5:30/6 on a Sunday evening. We followed the clearly marked signs around to the entrance. When you enter, you approach a counter with a handwritten chalk menu (since it changes daily!) to place your order. The woman taking orders was super sweet and charming! We ordered 2 drinks - one was some sort of whiskey sour, which I ended up drinking, and the other was a rum based tiki type drink, which my husband had. Both were very tasty, but mine was better. For food, I got the scallops which came with assorted vegetables and a sauce. Holy cow - this dish was incredible! The flavors were so well balanced. It was seriously a perfectly composed plate, and my taste buds were exploding with happiness the entire time. My husband got the wagyu beef burger, which he raved about stating that it was probably the best burger he's ever had. After the amazing dining experience we were already having, we knew we had to try dessert, too. We had 3 choices and went with the extra virgin olive oil cake with lemon. It also had some sort of berry sauce on the side. Again, it was a perfectly composed dish. Not overly sweet, but just pure satisfaction to end our meal. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. All the outdoor tables were taken, which is expected considering the amazing weather and view. We were lucky to snag a table in the sun room that had windows and doors opened up onto the patio. After our meal, we walked around the grounds, which were beautiful. We will definitely come back here in the future!

Wagyu beef entree

We had such high hopes because this restaurant came highly recommended by friends. We both chose the grass fed Wagyu beef entree. Hers was done exactly as she liked it. Mine...not so much. My meat cut was full of connective tissue. Not marbled with fat as you expect, but literally so tough I could not cut through it. Approximately 1/3 of my meat was inedible connective tissue. When I politely mentioned the meat was not good, I received an apology, but no offer for a discount, or anything else to make it right. For these prices, I expect excellence. Quite disappointed and don't know that I would go back.

If you are looking for some delicious home cooking farm fresh this place knocks it out of the park! Great family run business, pay attention to intolerances, great presentation and for out soak your taste buds in the yum mines of there garden! We will come back and always return (it's been 10 years) and it's still the best place to eat on the island

Scallops and Local Lamb

This is a hidden jem on the island that has fanatic food and views. We ordered the scallops and local lamb, and were not disappointed.

if you come early, you might get a window seat!

trust the chef with the creative menu options, and flavor combinations you may not consider typical.

We had two little kids that were obsessed with the candy bowls, and my wife's elderly (we are of Indian origin) parents who . . . let's just say, they had a lot of interesting questions. The rooms were really nice...very clean and spacious. This place accommodates dogs. Let me rephrase, they welcome dogs. They had a cot for each of our dogs to sleep in, treats, poop bags, and a coupon for the neighborhood pet shop. I think it says a lot about a place when they welcome dogs with such open arms. Outlook Inn is also situated near the downtown area and is walking distance from some nice shops and restaurants. This doesn't count towards this rating but Orcas island was beautiful. I highly recommend you visit and stay at Outlook Inn, especially if you have a dog.

It was an easy check in, friendly staff. The bay view suits are a pretty good size and the bed was comfy! The little kitchenette was handy to have, and was stocked with the basics. Great views and so close to everything. There are many stores and restaurants close by that are easy to walk to. The only little complaint we had was that the shower water could've been hotter. But other than that, it was an amazing stay! We will definitely be coming back to stay here!!

A very enjoyable experience! Full disclosure, I live on the mainland and have been coming up to…read moreRosario since I was a kid (over 60+ years). And, yes, without going into detail, it's much different than it was before. No, it's not a resort per-se, but more like an Airbnb, where it's about the room itself (which was very nice, clean, etc), the setting (phenomenal!) with an incredible view and a deck to take it all in. There's places to go for little walks, and if you wanted to go on a longer hike, Moran State Park is nearby. The resort's customer service was exceptional, I wish all hotels had such good service! I've eaten at one of the restaurants which was quite good.

We arrived at Rosario Resort for a four-night stay, booked in advance and supported by a confirmed…read morereservation, only to discover that the resort had no record of the first night of our booking. The resort had failed to honor our reservation, leaving my wife, me, and our two children (both under 10) without accommodation at midnight on an island. With the front desk closed and no one available to resolve the situation, we called the number provided on the door and reached an offshore operator who said she would call us back in 10 minutes. After 20 minutes, we called again, and she told us she would text us in 15 minutes with a resolution. After another 20 minutes of not hearing back, we called only to be told they would not be able to help us in any way. Having driven for hours with two young children, we were left to find lodging ourselves, on an island, in the middle of the night. After calling multiple hotels as this was during a Camp Orkila weekend we eventually secured a room across the island (approximately an hour away) at a cost of $536.80. The following morning at Rosario, Carie at the front desk acknowledged the error, apologized, and assured us we would receive a refund both for the room Rosario had failed to provide and for the alternative accommodation we had been forced to book at the last minute. Later, after considerable back and forth, however, the resort issued only a partial reimbursement. A hotel's responsibility to its guests does not end when its own reservation process fails. Guests should not be expected to absorb the financial consequences of a hotel's mistake, particularly when that mistake leaves a family with young children stranded at midnight. It is standard industry practice for hotels that cannot honor a confirmed reservation to refund the original accommodation and cover the cost of alternative lodging. The subsequent decision to provide only partial reimbursement compounded the original failure. Our experience with Rosario Resort involved a lost reservation, no meaningful assistance when we needed it, and a reimbursement that fell short of what we were explicitly assured we would receive. The resort acknowledged its mistake but ultimately left us paying for a problem entirely of its own making. I would not recommend booking here. Finally, do not be misled by the photographs of the beautiful historic mansion featured in the resort's marketing. The mansion is permanently closed and in a state of disrepair. The property presented in the promotional imagery is not an experience guests should expect to enjoy during their stay.

I loved having the quiet time alone with my wife, but I would also like to bring our kids here because they would love to adventure here. The ocean and woods surround the property, abundant in wildlife and breathtaking scenery. The Salish is the very picture of the Pacific Northwest. I travel all over the world and have plenty of hotel points and air miles I can use, but for our anniversary we chose to come back HERE because our first stay was so wonderful. We wanted the slow paced days, and an escape from the hustle and bustle. Part of the charm of Orcas Island is the lack of commercialism. We brought some food with us, and cooked lovely meals and ate them by the fireplace. We ate out once at the West Sound Cafe, a pretty place, that served amazing fried chicken and waffles. Other than that, we stayed in the house most of the time. We chose Screech Owl Swoop, which is a unique and lovely little house in the middle of the trees. My five favorite things here were: 1. The whimsical owl decor everywhere. 2. The quick walk to the ocean. 3. The themed library. 4. The four poster bed, complete with stairs. 5. The fireplace which comes with plenty of wood. Is there anything better than the crackling of firewood as you read a novel and sip some wine. Seriously? The staff is amazing and helpful. In each cabin, the owners share their love of history, literature and art with their guests, which felt so thoughtful to us. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. If you want a true PNW getaway, book a trip to The Salish. Bring some books, cozy clothing, and prepare to unwind and get recharged. Stayed December 2016, traveled as a couple.
