We had a nice sunshiny day so we needed to celebrate by eating somewhere with an ocean view. We were not disappointed! Lovely interior and great service. The food was delicious. My husband had fish and chips and bowl of clam cheddar and I had the most delicious beef dip sandwich. I had the privilege of staying at this beautiful hotel on my way up the coast from Arizona to Alaska. I was in the process of moving with my husband and three dogs (two of which are large English Mastiffs). Traveling with dogs can be very difficult and stressful but the hotel staff made my stay a breeze. We were happily greeted and welcomed. The staff made over my three boys and gave them dog treats. We were even provided dog bowls and beds. The room was luxurious, clean and just wonderful. There was plenty of room for the five of us. The bathroom was heavenly with the walk in shower and jacuzzi tub. Our view from the balcony overlooked the harbor. Not only did we enjoy it but the mastiffs spent their own time taking it in. My husband and I ordered room service and relaxed from our long days of driving. We enjoyed ourselves so much we rearranged our schedule so we could stay another night. My husband surprised me with a unplugged overnight staycation at Hotel Bellwether. Having little ones the silence, and scenic views were highly welcomed. Stately, comfortable, and charming without overdoing it. Just my idea of perfect hospitality. You can't beat the location, either. We called ahead to see if our room was by any chance ready. and they let us check in early. My nap-needing self will always be grateful. The beds are crazy comfortable, and the curtains are more than dark enough to hook you up with an afternoon nap. The staff couldn't have been nicer. We got out cardkeys and slipped in to the underground parking, which is secured. Probably fine to park outside around here but it's nice to at least be covered in the rainy season. We got up to our door and immediately felt super lucky since we scored water views out of two sides of the room. Everything's nice--furniture's comfortable, everything's spotless, nothing takes up too much space, nice big flat-screen TV. Plenty of storage for everything you could possibly bring with you on a trip. There's a nice desk and plenty of seating, which is good, since we had 6 people in for a nightcap. The sofa pulls out into an insanely-comfortable sleeper, and as mentioned the bed is great (king size). Plenty of extra pillows and blankets in the ample storage. The bathroom is super nice, very spacious, clean, and well-lit. Big shower, big tub. Our friends got jets in their tub, and a balcony, too, but we made do with our still-water tub. They provide plenty of wine in the mini bar, along with a few airline bottles of whatever spirits. I love this location and have always wanted to stay here. Excellent stay in the Bay View Suite! As mentioned, the views are wonderful and there are nice pathways to walk along the marina and over to Zuanich Point Park. Be ware the park can be very windy. I even walked into town, it's only about a mile. The room was very quiet, no noise from neighboring rooms and housekeeping had a high standard of cleanliness. The king bed was very comfortable, which is not always the case. Often hotel Kings are firm to the point of being rigid. Not so here. I found the staff to be friendly and highly accommodating. Room service was fine, although I do think the menu is fairly limited. No breakfast pancakes?? Finally, Bella, the hotel's mascot, was a pleasure. She often sits in the lobby and loves affection. It is one sign of how welcoming the hotel is to dogs, which is a big plus. read more

I liked the Hotel Bellwether. Certainly, the views from our room were magnificent. It was a five star stay for us, although the Hotel Bellwether may not be a five star hotel when comparing hostelries around the world. Our second floor room was large, with a pleasant balcony overlooking Bellingham Bay and the islands. The room's architecture was almost a twin of our room at the Willows Lodge in Woodinville. Strangely, they each had an accordion window over the tub looking into the bedroom. I don't get the design. Even the electric fireplaces were in the same location. However, at the Bellwether, we were in the main building with underground parking. That was very convenient. In addition, the groomed paths and walkways, in and around the marina, were lovely with lots of choices for food or drinks. Service was professional, but soulless. When I tried to engage with the front desk, they actually went silent. It was almost rude. Communication was odd, at best. The front desk explanation about how to get to the garage, made me feel as if I had to drive to a different county. The garage was right under the hotel. They forgot to mention that. Staff at the restaurant in the hotel also found communication difficult. We asked the "front" at the restaurant if we could have a table outside for drinks and snacks on Friday evening. They said, "Let me see what's available," and walked outside. Five minutes passed, ten minutes passed, we finally gave up and went back to our room. Yet, I will stay at the Bellwether again when I return to Bellingham. Those views are priceless and worth the more than $750.00 I paid for a two night stay. I really liked the town of Bellingham, which had a ton of stuff to do in town and around, in spite of the insidious Covid virus. I realize staffing is next to impossible these days and entire generations of Americans have lost the art of communicating. Technology has not helped nor endorsed social interaction. Soon, we will be a mute society and will have machines communicate for us, void of all emotion and soul. Won't that be fun. read more

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Bellwether in Bellingham. This classic hotel is the perfect place to stay when you motor in with your sailboat or yacht. The room was on the ground floor with a private patio to take in the salt air and watch the parade of boats come in after a regatta. Our dog joined us and was provided a dog bed and bowls, The room was big enough, good mattress and clean. The bathroom was definitely the star (see photos). Note: Room doesn't have microwave (we didn't need it). The hotel team was helpful and friendly. Everyone was upbeat and seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with guests. Breakfast was fresh, efficient and delicious. The hotel has a bar and restaurant which are connected and have amazing views. The restaurant has windows that open up and disappear. Parking is located underneath the hotel. The view is fantastic here. Really, the grounds and marina are so beautiful. Can't wait till our next stay. :0) Note: due for new carpeting in the main part of hotel. I'm still giving them 5 stars. read more

Belize at the front desk isn't very knowledgeable and he's rude and terse. My first problem with him is that he assures you that everything will be fine without being 100% certain (eg when a credit card will actually be charged for an event, and on another phone call, assuring me that it's fine to just showing up early to a dinner reservation, even though our reservation is set for a later time). He's exhibited this behavior of being unsure twice, two different phone calls, buy stating something in a dogmatic way, while not offering to look into it, until you insist for your own comfort. Then, when you do, just to be sure, just to put my mind at rest, he becomes intolerant. He begins asking your name so that he can look into things, again, only st your insistence and just after you give your name, I was surprised that he became intolerant when I asked his name in return. His voice became quiet and I'm sure it was as if he knew he was being rude and probably thought he was going to be turned in. That wasn't why h asked. I only asked because if he was telling me wrong information, I would know who told me the wrong information later on. From there he became short and hung up the call in a rude way. It's clear he's insecure and he doesn't understand the role is to make the patrons and guests feel comfortable. It has nothing to do with him. He takes it personally, and he needs to be worked with by management, and looked into. Kelly is just okay too. When you ask her to modify something, she replies, "please hold while I run all the way over there and check for you. ". That's not a way to make a guest feel; as if they are inconveniencing the front desk staff. These guys need to get it together. This place is overrated and the only reason it has good reviews is because it's the only act in town as far as resort is concerned, but if other resorts moved in, this place would not be as popular as it is with this kind of customer service. At the July 4th celebration, the terrible buffet food they had on July 4th. The food was bland and not only that, they didn't even offer dessert. I had to order dessert to come to the resort just for Fourth of July, as it wasn't even included in the food price/ticket paid. read more

We had a lovely, relaxing stay, taking a brief respite from caring for our aging elders. The room was clean, quiet and well appointed with nice linens and a comfortable bed. The restaurant was good and we liked the bar, with live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, though the chairs were bottomed out and uncomfortable. The place is well maintained and well staffed. Housekeeping comes in every morning and completely resets the room just like most facilities used to do. Too bad it takes luxury prices to get this level of service we expected everywhere just five years ago. Even the coffee in the lobby was good and actual half and half was available and not in one tablespoon containers. All three chairs in our room were bottomed out and uncomfortable. read more

We recently held our Son and new Daughter in-law's wedding rehearsal dinner on the Hotel Bellwether Patio with 130 guests. Everything was beautiful and well organized, the setting was amazing, and our guests really enjoyed the atmosphere, everything was wonderful except for the food. They ran out of 3-4 of the main dishes before everyone even got a chance to be served, they said more food was coming out soon, but it never did. I waited for our guests to be served first, when I did go, there were people still waiting for the staff to replenish the main dishes, finally they left and went to their seats. I went back 3 times to check if they had brought out more food and they never did. I spoke with the staff, and they didn't care at all, spoke with management and they made excuses and took no responsibility. Very disappointed, I thought this was supposed to be a first-class facility, location is beautiful, Hard pass on everything else, save your money and find someplace else on the water, enjoy the sunset with your friends and have enough food for everyone. read more

Luxury products, fantastic robes (they're back!) and sparkly clean rooms! Delightful client service! Seriously, they are welcoming, helpful, and informative! And dog-friendly for certain parts of the hotel! The view! Oh! Our room had a view of the harbor and the entire Bellingham coast...WOW! Now, add in there are great restaurants steps (yes, steps away) from the hotel. Lombardi's, Anthony's, a packed sushi place, and the Bellwether's own restaurant are just a few. Did I mention the room service? Their crabcake benedict was SO GOOD! They have bikes, and they are right near a very groovy park and walking area! AND...secure parking for FREE! Yep! I've dropped by the Lighthouse Bar and Grill that's inside the bellwether a few times and I've always enjoyed the drinks at the bar but it wasn't until recently that I actually stayed here. My wife and I wanted a quick getaway from our life and decided to give it a try and we were blown away. From the moment we walked in the staff were always helpful and available. The decor is a great mix of luxury and comfort with a nice PNW theme. The room we got was also fantastic with two rooms, each with a balcony. A great bathroom with wonderful soaps. Overall everything in the room was wonderful, a great get away. I loved sitting on the balcony in the morning drinking some coffee and watching the sailboats leave and return. In the morning we ended up getting breakfast at the Lighthouse Bar and Grill which was one of my best experiences there. Wonderful menu, even with covid and again fantastic staff that managed that perfect amount of attentiveness without bothering our experience. Just a fantastic experience, we'll definitely be coming back again! read more

i signed up for the Christmas Eve Buffet that sounded amazing. They called a few days later and said they weren't doing the buffet any longer but would have an extended menu. There was no extended menu. It was the regular menu. I ordered the Beef Bourgoine. It came with a sauce that tasted like it came from a jar or box, overly salted. the side dishes were all Fried. Fried artichokes, potatoes, brussels sprouts. I ordered the brussels sprouts, and they were burnt. I ordered the "Rotten to the Core" alcoholic drink and the flavor profile was so gross I had to send it back and order another drink. Then on top of that, we were seated in a room full of tables that was being attended to by 1 waitress. Really? On Christmas Eve? We looked at the dessert menu and it was not at all appetizing so we went to Anthony's for dessert. I won't try eating here again. read more

Our family celebrated parents 50th wedding anniversary at the Bellwether. They were AMAZING, CARING and the staff made it perfect! The hotel room was beautiful, had a sliding door and nice sitting area our dog enjoyed the in and out. We did have to gate it off (but we travel with round pen.) Kelly at front desk was AMAZING! When I needed to talk (having a meltdown) she really felt like a friend and not front desk staff. Everyone was soooo nice and treated my family with such respect We will miss our stay and staff. I went late April and it was chili at night. Low 40's. Room service breakfast omelet was delicious. The restaurant on site is a little pricey but excellent service, fish was perfect, pub, wine, views. Sunset view is gorgeous. There are many restaurants withing walking distance. Like next door. I was surprised that when I made a reservation for 10AM for a Sunday meal for 4 that I got a confirmation text that said 9:45 was my reservation time. I called the hotel to double check because I didn't want there to be any confusion. I've also arrived at the hotel bell weather before without a reservation and they wouldn't seat us because they had reservations. There were many tables open, but we politely waited. Long story short, I was told that, yes they got my 10 AM reservation, but they put it back to 9:45 AM and not to worry. I just don't understand why they can't be transparent with the reservation times? read more

We had the opportunity to experience Hotel Bellwether a couple different ways. First off we went to a wedding there. You could tell the staff was lacking! The wedding couple was amazing just beautiful! But the food was not great! The chicken was over cooked and dry. My poor baby couldn't chew it. I got one roll and the by the time I went to get another they had RAN out! The veggies were over cooked! I tried getting my plate cleared three different times and the server walked by me every time! So after the wedding we stayed in a room. The best part was the jetted tub. Other wise everything else was Blah! The bed was so uncomfortable that our backs hurt the next morning! Check in is at 4 pm which is later then most hotels and check out is 11! For how much is cost this place isn't worth it! Next morning we had breakfast down stairs and that was honestly sad. Our friend had maybe 5 potatoes and my toast burnt to a crisp. My tea never got refilled, the server looked confused 80 percent of the time lol! The stay my husband and I had here was just okay. Except for last Monday, my husband and I were wanting to go out for a stroll outside cause the weather was beautiful out. As we were walking into the lobby, my husband and I heard yelling from what seemed like it was the general manager's office. It sounded like he was drunk (keep in mind this was around 10 in the morning) talking over and rudely interrupting whoever he was talking to. The person that he was speaking to, sounded distressed and frustrated because of him acting like a jerk. All I had heard from the office was that he was firing this person for stealing money and that they did not do it and they kept asking "Where's the proof?" This establishment seems very shady and conniving. Never in my life did I think I'd hear a general manager speak to someone like that, let alone their employees. The other thing, we paid over $200 for a room that had no class. The bed was uncomfortable, there were god-awful bird pillows that mismatched the aesthetic in the room, an unmatched ugly red chair in the living room. The room looked like it was hardly cleaned. The room service was alright but the food was mediocre. Although, the front desk was excellent. If I could give them 5 stars I would. I will never go back here again, not after hearing the GM talking the way he did and especially if he truly was drunk then he has a problem, he seemed like a very rude person and I feel bad for the employee that had to go through what they had to go through that day. read more

It's been nearly a full week since my family and I spent an evening listening to jazz and enjoying wonderful food at the Bellwether, but my heart is still happy with our time there and I felt the need to say so. I work full time and have my own business to run so family time can be rare and very precious. That being said, the staff at the Bellwether did not disappoint. When we first arrived the hope had been to sit out on the patio to better hear the music and watch our friend play, but since they are a popular band in the area, even though we got there early the patio was already full. The staff was so gracious, they apologized for not being able to meet our seating preference and quickly found us a nice table near the open door to the patio where we still had a view. As soon as the music started we realized that this was the perfect spot since not only could we converse with each other freely, but the music filled the dining area beautifully. Not only was the atmosphere wonderful, but our food, which arrived promptly after it had been ordered, did not disappoint. We each enjoyed our own meals and had to share from each other because everything looked so delicious. It was a busy evening and I was impressed that there were no delays in receiving our meal, our server was attentive throughout and I even saw the general manager taking the time to move about the dining area seeing to the needs of other guests. I feel that it is all too rare to see this level of care from the restaurant industry these days and as someone who has a busy schedule and has to choose outings wisely, this was definitely the best night we've had out in a very long time. Beautiful vintage hotel with gorgeous views right on the water. Sushi restaurant right out side the hotel. Other restaurants nearby. Awesome place to hike or go for a long walk. Large comfy bed, jacuzzi tub, lots of bar snacks and a quaint patio. Dog welcomes you at the door. Bar and restaurant downstairs(didn't try the food.) Cons: sheets were stained and carpet a bit dusty. Gym is across the hotel lobby so you have to go outside and no restroom in gym. read more

Our stay at the Hotel Bellwether was exceptional. The room was very comfortable with a fantastic view over Bellingham Bay and the marina, and we were surprised how quiet it was. We were particularly impressed and grateful for the care our small dog received.
