A king sized, VERY comfortable bed, gas fireplace to relax by before going to bed, and then again in the morning. The chalkboards were an added bonus for two artists (we have similar huge slate chalkboards that were saved from a college academic building - weren't sure what we'd do with them, but with an addition going on our house, now we know...!) We slept fabulously, and woke to a knock on the door when our breakfast was left - in a lovely basket with everything needed to settle back in by the fire and enjoy hot coffee, fresh boiled eggs, fresh croissants, warm quiche straight from the oven, freshly cut fruit, and the Sunday paper! Thick, cushy bathrobes and warmed towels made getting out of the shower easier than usual. The staff member we met, Tanya, was absolutely delightful and terrifically helpful. A a great package, all the way around. It was so very difficult to leave, but we know we'll be back!!

We happened to be there over Memorial Day weekend so had a nice view of the parade sitting right outside of the Inn! We will definitely be back!

I recommend starting with booking a stay at the Harbor House Inn and figuring out what you're going to do from there (there's tons of amazing things to do). The inn itself is simply gorgeous. Every room is charming, clean, and beautiful. Perfect in every way. But what makes the Harbor House Inn exceptional is the owner, Jennifer. She was immeasurably helpful and accommodating to our group of three hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and warm, she made planning our two-day hike (one night at the inn) easy and stress free. And breakfast was delicious! Can't recommend the Harbor House Inn highly enough. I give it a million stars!

The owner organized exhibits, lectures and special events in collaboration with the IS183 Berkshire arts school. Artworks and galleries are beautiful. I passed the Springs Motel once when I was in the area and decided that on my next work trip, I'd stay there. I stayed for two nights, and it's a very cool place with comfortable, clean rooms. Love the retro fridge and decor. The hotel has been renovated and reopened, and after talking with the maintenance guy, it sounds like they're doing a lot of great things now and for the future. I was really only at the motel in the evenings to shower and sleep, and it was great. I do wish the lobby were open earlier and later--I think right now the hours are 9 AM to 6 PM. I only stuck around on my last morning so I could see it. It's very cool and retro. I snapped some pics before heading out.

I think a block of rooms were reserved for our party with something from the owner about it being a busy week and they didn't want to be left with unclaimed rooms. Fair enough. I was the first to reserve a room, and others soon followed. But... it's funny how the hip language of this place exceeded the reality. It's good that the owners sought to revive the motel and give it a stylish retro twist but unfortunately that requires a ton of detail work to pull it off and charge these prices. Details that were missing? Mmm, no closet, so instead a very cheap, rickety free standing coat hanger at the entrance. Two heating/cooling systems? One of the old, nonfunctioning type still in place and a newer, functioning one on the wall. Dealing with those old electrical systems? Ouch, electrical outlet covers that can't stay flush with the wall without a lot of work by the renovators. Bottle opener just inside the bathroom doorway? Um, ok, but you should remove the hardware before you try painting around it (unsuccessfully). Paint spray clinging to bathroom tiles because the painter didn't clean up? Yeah... sigh. Chipped bathroom tiles due to some unsuccessful installation of something? Yeah. Lighting for both sides of the king size bed? Mmm, no. Light for the hipster table? No. And so on. This is not a terrible place by any means but it's obviously not what it says it is. Assuming you don't pay the absurd price we paid, it's okay.

I checked the ceilings, the floors, and the corners just because I couldn't find anything wrong with the room. We had an adequate refrigerator, and microwave, both very clean. Yes the motel is old-ish, yes some of the furniture is dated but that just added to the charm. Who cares if it's old as long as it is clean and in good repair? It brings you back to a slower time and lifestyle. With the very comfortable Adirondack chairs and table in front of every room, we sat, slowed down, and enjoyed the view of the mountain across the street. The bed and the big soft recliner were very comfortable and we slept well. The call to the desk for our breakfast was answered by a very friendly and helpful person who brought our order right to our door with a smile. It's hard to tell how much COVID influenced our breakfast, we didn't get to eat in the dining area but when we return here, we hope to be able to check the breakfast out. Of course, the pool was still closed at this time of year (April) but from what I could see it looks inviting and well maintained. Can't wait to stay here again.

The staff proved to be uniformly pleasant people, always helpful. The public spaces -- the dining areas and especially the recently refurbished parlor rooms which are stocked with drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon -- are a genuine delight. So much is good here. But we have given the inn four stars not five because of the disappointing breakfasts. We were served very overcooked casseroles, overcooked scrambled eggs, grossly undercooked bacon and rather sad bits of yogurt. They really need some improvements here. That said -- and we know it requires us to be honest -- we would definitely look forward to returning with fingers crossed for some improvements in the breakfasts. And yes, 33 Main is on the pricey side, but it's high season for Tanglewood -- a very short drive away -- and given the quality here we think it's well worth considering a splurge.

You heard me right! Every room in this beautiful inn is decorated and designed by a different artist chosen by the owners and the Aloha room has a giant hammock like floating bed that sways based on your body movements. We were lucky enough to see this awesome room before the guests checked in, but man was I jealous! I also was jealous that this inn was not really near anything to do, and was on the edge or a more run down part of the city... We stayed here for two nights and very much enjoyed our stay anyway though. EVERYTHING here is organic and natural, so if that isn't your thing, this is not the place for you. They also didn't tell us in advance that we weren't supposed to be using any of our own products other than the organic products they provide in the rooms for you so that you don't contaminate the sheets or pillowcases or anything else in the inn. Sounds pretty strict I know, and there is a warning on the door that says they have the right to remove anything that they think may negatively affect the inn as well, but I still wore my make up every day and nothing like that happened to anything of ours while we were there. We did try out all of the organic products though which was an adventure on its own. Not so sure I would use that powdered organic toothpaste again, but it was a new experience! Their breakfasts are also delicious and come included with your room stay cost. All organic and natural which I definitely appreciate and it is all made fresh since you tell them in advance what time around you are planning to eat which is lovely. Very nice inn keepers that are pretty knowledgeable about the area and definitely want you to have the best stay possible. This is also the first inn I've stayed at in a while that didn't have a bible of any kind in it too. Their natural organic approach meets spirituality and technology with their flat screen tvs and satellite tvs and their keyless door code entry. Oh ya, don't forget to take your shoes off and put booties on when you come in! Definitely an escape from most people's everyday lives which is what trips are supposed to be, right?

On the south side, you wake up to a sun-drenched, turn-of-the century luxury that you didn't know existed. Fireplaces in every room, and in every public room invites you down to a 15-foot dining table decorated (at least last week) in beautiful and lovely Christmas motif with real china. Frank Newton, proprietor, makes every guest feel as if he is lord of the manor. Melissa keeps the 1800s mansion in sparkling condition. We stayed in the Eleanor Roosevelt room with a canopy bed and pull out couch, as well as a desk for writing those letters back home. (Free wireless internet included for that back to century feel.) If you are heading to the Berkshires or Tanglewood, your stopover should be the Summer White House.

Luckily, they had a room available and even offered to take $50 off the price. The location was perfect, right in the middle of Lenox. We were even able to walk to and from Tanglewood, avoiding the traffic in and out of the parking lot. Our room was nicely appointed with a nice little patio. There were so many interesting books, paintings and pictures on the walls. In the morning, we had a nice simple breakfast that was included in the price -- baked egg dish, boiled eggs, pastries, cereal, milk, coffee. Would definitely come back and stay in the future when we come back to the Berkshires. Of note, their website didn't allow up to pick a date in 2017 to reserve a room so we had to call in to make the reservations. Probably easier to just call ahead rather than deal with the website. Anyways, had a wonderful time and looking forward to going back soon!
