Solid neighborhood hardware store I've gone to for two years for random needs. Helpful staff/owner though their stuff is priced on the high side. But that's the price you pay for a place you can walk to instead of your Home Depots. read more

I just moved into the area and needed some things for my new place. While this place is small and lacks many items, their staff is very nice and quickly offered help when I came into the store. I am the kind of person who always looks lost and confused at a Home Depot so it was great to see that the staff was eager to help out. Great neighborhood hardware store worth heading to for basic supplies. read more

Great selection, and very fair prices, even when comparing to Home Depot's. Best selection around of keys (Home Depot, Pills, Economy in Central all failed to have the blanks I needed in stock. Inman had both.) Support local businesses! read more

Awesome guys. Super friendly and helpful. Answered all of my questions and helped me get all the parts I need. Was treated rudely at another hardware store, so the friendly staff were a breath of fresh air. read more

Great staff, very helpful, and a wide array of hardware needs.

The folks are Inman Hardware are wonderfully helpful and friendly. I'm always confident I can find what I need here (keys cut, curtain rods, mattress bags, tools). Most recently, I needed to replace a screw from a vintage machine. Not knowing the size, I brought the broken screw in and the older gentleman took his time, comparing it to the sizes they had and searching for the perfect replacement. Ultimately they didn't have the size (the machine is British and very old), but he explained my options and I left with a substitute screw - a single screw! - that ended up working. In the process of talking to him, I learned a few tricks for sizing screws myself. However, it is rare that they don't have precisely what I need. Inman Hardware is a local gem. I usually ask the staff about what I need as soon as I arrive and they're always able to quickly lead me to the right spot. They strike the perfect level of service - willing and available to answer questions, but not overly attentive, giving me space to browse. read more

Take everything in your average Lowe's or Home Depot (minus lumber), add in a good smattering of housewares, pack it into 3,000 square feet and you've got Inman Square Hardware. These guys offer friendly service (you'll have to ask where things are in this labyrinth) and decent prices. Always my first stop and typically my only for any type of hardware need. read more

For a hardware store, this place is as good as it gets. For the typical customer (Cambridge apartment-dwellers), it has everything you could need. But the five stars are for the service. The family that runs the place are incredibly helpful and are eager to help you find the right items without trying to "sell" you. They're attentive, courteous, and they take time to help you out. read more

Just went there this morning to get a copy of my mailbox key; the owner there was extremely welcoming, finished the whole job in like 10 seconds, only charged me $1.50~~~ Good experience~~~ read more

I love this place. One of the very very few places still left were expertise meets friendliness and a well stocked selection of goods. The owner and his son are always helpful and in a very good mood and despite the small size of the store it is well better stocked than eg the hardware section at Target. Today, I wanted to buy a simple light bulp for an ikea lamp. Despite my gut feeling, I did indeed go to Target where I did NOT find this simple bulp but instead bought tons of other stuff I hadn't planned on buying. Eventually, I ended up at Inman Square Hardware and was happy that my money went to them. Whether I need a key chain, a solution for my wobbly dining table, or a piece of metal cut into two, this is my place to go! read more

-I'm from the midwest and this hardware store rates right up there with the best of the best. -It's small inside but packed from floor to ceiling with EVERYTHING. This is what an old time hardware store is like. Prices are in-line with all other hardware stores and big box stores. They don't gouge you because they are small. -Staff is extremely helpful. -They were even open before their posted hours read more

I moved to a new apartment that doesn't have shower doors, so I needed a shower curtain. Walked in just to get shower curtains while we were in the neighborhood. This place has a bit of everything, not just the usual stuff you'll find at your typical hardware store. Ended up repairing my mirror, and few electric points and getting rid of my kitchen stains. Later, we also bought paint & decorative materials to color my kids room - they absolutely adore it The staff members who work there are more than happy to show you where it is and how to properly use it. I'm impressed This place definitely deserves five stars. read more

After trying to have a key duplicated at two other hardware stores with no luck, I came to Inman Square Hardware. The gentleman behind the counter looked at the key, explained that the people who had made this particular duplicate had filed off the model number to make it more difficult, and that it could be one of two different kinds of blanks. He gave it his best guess, cut a new key and said that if it didn't work to come back and they'd cut another key with the other blank for free. Sure enough, the first key didn't quite fit and after coming back, I had a new key cut for free with the other blank. That key worked great and I've been a loyal customer ever since. read more

The clasp on my dog's leash broke so I brought it in looking for suggestions on how to fix it. Three different people who were working took a look and got it fixed. I would never have gotten this kind of service at Home Depot or Lowes and was grateful for this neighborhood store. read more

This is the best hardware store. Their keys always work, they always have time to help me find what I need.

i like to patronize places where the owner/shopkeeper is super friendly. i got my keys made here lickety split for real cheap. the prices of other things such as the rubbish barrels i bought do seem a little high, but i give an extra star when someone puts a smile on my face. plus, it's conveniently located (in relationship to me, as the sun, moon and stars revolve around me). read more

Easily the best stocked hardware store this side of the Charles. Not only that, but the family that runs it is indispensably knowledgable and incredibly friendly. If you are ever lucky enough to get a word in edgewise with the elder gentleman who seems to own the place, ask him politely for an item- simply describe something you're not even sure actually exists- and watch how incalculably fast he figures out exactly what you're talking about, and leads you down some labyrinthine aisle to the closest approximation he has to offer. It's amazing. You CANNOT get this kind of experience at a box store. It's a true neighborhood gem; honestly the best. Six stars if I could. read more

Family Owned and operated, this hardware store is by far the best around. Anytime I need help with a project in my home no matter the size they are always there to help. I would go here over the large chains any day. read more

I only ever seem to come here when I need the smallest thing but the staff is always super helpful, friendly, and funny. Aside from that, I think I could kill an afternoon just checking out the really random things they have hidden in the huge stock of this relatively small store. read more

I adore this place. I've gone in there many times with vague descriptions, sure that a store their size couldn't possibly have what I want, and the incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff always lead me right to exactly what I'm looking for. Now I live a bit further away from Inman Square Hardware, but I will still absolutely travel out of my way to patronize this local gem. Also, their kitchen gadgets section (the aisle next to the paint) is my favorite place to go when I feel like making an impulse buy. read more

I've been coming here for several years for your basic home improvement jobs and while the prices can be a bit high the service can't be beat! I was in the other day asking for suggestions on how to fix a broken handle on a used red wagon I recently picked up for my infant son. One of the staff and a random customer spent the next 10 minutes cobbling together the best replacement handle for a Radio Flyer that you've ever seen. A true neighborhood hardware store if there ever was one! read more

This place is great for cutting keys! I walked in and out in less than 5 minutes -- staff was very courteous and the service was inexpensive. Will definitely come back here in the future. read more

Just about as good as littler hardware stores get. It's tiny, but they've got everything. I've actually had better luck finding things here than at Home Depot (yankee screwdriver, esoteric drill bits, etc;). They obviously have less stuff than the Home Depot, but it's more carefully chosen, and doesn't overlap (you won't find a dozen brands of the same product). The prices are also much better than either the Economy Hardware down the street, or then big stores like Home Depot. Service is good and friendly -- not expert, but still more knowledgeable than your minimum wage drone at most of the big shops. read more

They have a huge variety of hardware items. I came here looking to get a handful of particularly sized wood screws (less than 1" long), and they had exactly what I needed. They sell the screws individually so I didn't spend a penny more than I needed to. Totally perfect, I'll be coming here for all my screw-related needs in the future! read more

What it lacks in size it more than makes up for in friendly, helpful service. They are always ready to answer questions and find what you need, whether is it $500 worth of materials or a 5¢ nail. read more

This store harkens back to pre-box store monotony; it has a genuine small town feel. It's family-owned and the two employees (I imagine father and son?) are not only very knowledgeable but will take 10 minutes to help you find the right screw that you buy for 5 cents. They also will brainstorm with you to find a solution to whatever it is you need help with. They are friendly and happily bounce between Portuguese and English, depending on whom they are helping. I cannot say enough good things about this store. read more

East Coast Grill isn't the heart of Inman Square, this place is. They stock just about anything you can think of and then some. The staff are friendly and knowledgable... even if you don't speak a word of Portuguese. read more

Hardware stores are a vanishing breed. In years past, I would not have considered this more than an average hardware store. Now, it is the best in the Boston area. They have a very good selection of hardware, supplies and tools of reasonable quality. They know their stuff. They offer useful services like window glazing and screen repair. They are helpful, well-informed and pleasant. read more

Love these guys. The actual store is very small, so the selection isn't great, but they have 90% of what you need and they're willing to help you find it. I'd much rather have limited selection and good people than a warehouse and "push for attendant" buttons. read more

Very efficient use of space here, items along the narrow aisles are mounted on walls reaching almost to the ceiling. Most things you will need are within reach, however. They have almost everything, just ask. They even sell nails and screws by the pound. Browsing is fine, too, and fun. Owner Al Pacheco always greets you enthusiastically with a big smile and a "what can I do for you today!?" He and his son Paul are both knowledgeable and helpful, and welcome questions about how to do things. Prices are typically about 25% less than at other local hardware stores. The store is conveniently located right in the heart of Inman Square near major bus stops. read more
