This is the best place in the area for duplicating keys: both regular apartment keys, and even specialty keys, such as "high-security"/laser-cut ones - for modern cars! They have the broadest set of blanks available in the area, and usually well stocked. The prices are very reasonable. Even if the price for a key is a buck or two higher than at HomeDepot, - I would prefer coming here, because there is always some problem at Home Depot, either all the machines (they have 2 or 3) are broken, or they don't have the blanks, or the hands are growing from the wrong place. When I came to duplicate my "high-security" car key, the person who did that made sure that I was aware of all different aspects of those keys (the key transmitter inside the fob, etc. - the information that took me quite some time to research). read more

A great neighborhood hardware store. They pack a lot into a small space: both in terms of products and services. Over the last decade I've gotten many common items like shovels, ice melt push brooms, sleds, screw and nuts, lubricants, etc. I've also had window screens fixed. And I know they can notarized documents. Their customer service is good too. I've also come in with vague descriptions of what I need. Ive also come in with no idea what an item I needed to replace and just a picture and measurement and they've been able to help. Once a needed a 7mm valve flare cap (thanks google for telling me the term), and they took me down into the basement so I could check a few choices to see if anything matched. They said, "These are one of those things we maybe sell one of a year" and it only cost $2.49, but it stopped a massive leak so I left very grateful. read more

Must... Support. Local. Business... I have officially been brainwashed by the Roslindale Village Main Streets. ACE Hardware was a recent discovery of ours while endeavoring to support these aforementioned local businesses. And what a great one! The man needed some random part to do some random job around the house (typical once you're a married homeowner, ladies). After skulking around the plumbing parts section looking, for lack of a better word, rather sketchy, we were approached by an older woman offering her help. She knew where everything was, apparently. And she did! She did her best to help us find what we thought we needed. And when we still weren't sure if it was what we really needed, she called over the plumbing expert. Which is the her boss' (that's the owner's) son. Long story short, he gave us the run down of what we probably really needed to get the job done. And sold it to us! We returned again on a recent trip to pick up something else the man needed (don't even remember what it was this time, it all starts to blend together after awhile, ladies) and again, were helped. This time by the owner himself. An older, slightly (charmingly) more disgruntled version of his son. Unfortunately, the part we needed only cost 30¢ and we had exactly zero cents on us. So we ended up buying a new broom and a bunch of duct tape to meet the minimum card requirement. So this place has got just about everything you need! From odd jobs, to small parts, and all the in betweens. They sell random household goods too (like cleaning supplies, laundry stuff, yard work supplies, etc.). And they have an able and willing stafff to help you locate and pick out exactly what you need to get your jobs done! We've already avoided a longer trip out to Home Depot twice now. We are so happy to have them in our neighborhood and all joking aside, I really am happy to support a local business like this one! read more

I found the right set online for $10.00 so I drove 1/2 an hr to roslindale because the site said that was the only ace hardware with the set in stock. I got to Joe's store only to find out it was $5 more. I already paid extra by buying the wrong set. I was concerned about spending more. Joe understood and honored the website price. I have lived less than a mile from this store for the last 16 years. Their knowledge and personalized service is 5 stories higher than any employee of any big box store, anywhere. I always go there when I need some specialized item and they not only give me the right part if they carry it but they tell me how to make the repair. Today it was a leaky faucet. Which I was able to fix in 15 minutes for less than $6. If they don't carry a part or perform a service, they will tell you who does. I LOVE this store! read more

Joe, the owner, can seem gruff sometimes, but he's actually a real gentleman who, when asked, will offer useful, comprehensive advice on pretty much any home reno or repair question. Even though there's a Home Despot a few miles away on the VFW, I always check Rosi Hardware first. Their prices really aren't much different than the big box stores and they will gladly order anything they don't have in stock (and they keep a surprisingly full inventory considering how small the store looks). Sometimes you're looking for something rare or esoteric, count on it that they will have it. And there's nothing like the advice you can get from them. They will spend as much time with you as you need. I have even gone in there and bought small items like nails or screws and they didn't even charge me. Lowes or Home Depot won't do that! The shop is family-run and whoever is manning the counter when you come in will help you find whatever you're looking for in a few seconds. Compare that to Home Depot, where you spend 20 minutes just trying to find someone who knows anything about what your question. Sure it's not a mega warehouse home improvement store, so if you need 15 sheets of plywood and some 2x4s you have to look elsewhere, but for your day-to-day needs these guys are efficient, very friendly, and knowledgable. read more

When I moved to Roslindale 4 years ago, I vowed to support local businesses, and this place makes it so easy! Joe and Alex are fantastic; so friendly and they know so much. And don't be fooled by the small store footprint... they have everything here. I think there's a big basement underneath. I'll admit, we do still use the big chains for some of our bigger jobs (e.g., 2x4s, dry wall, Behr paint). But for most things, we usually try Roslindale ACE first, and we usually get everything we need there (bat houses, hardwood charcoal, humane mouse-traps, paint primer, light switches... my husband just told me he needed an "in-line dimmer switch for a motor control" and they gave it to him for free because it was faded). read more
