My dad lives here now and since they made it nice and cozy for him, I thought they deserve 5 stars. Seriously though, my dad was a regular at every tool and lumber yard within a 25 mile radius and finally, he found a place that made him forget the rest. Talk about inspiring, he is at Rockler at least once or twice a week, just to putt around and see what's new and what he hasn't noticed before. Meanwhile my mom has new island in the kitchen that she's been wanting, everyone got a nightstand for Christmas and I can't buy books fast enough for all the bookshelves Dad is building. Thanks a lot Rockler, day at a time, my future inheritance is being spent on you. read more

As a novice woodworker, there is a great deal to learn and I had never taken a class to broaden this knowledge. YouTube videos can only teach you so much, and like most people I am a kinesthetic learner (learn by doing, not just watching or listening). I began filling my workshop power tool wish list at Rockler of 11639 W. Broad St, Richmond (Henrico), VA 23233 about a year ago, and noticed they offered classes, as well as demonstrations, for many woodworking skills. I signed up for the "Cabinetry Beginner Fundamentals" (July 24, 2024) presented by JW. The day-long class opened my eyes to many procedures in cabinetry, filling in my knowledge gaps and in some cases rewriting what I thought I knew about joinery and table saw use. No matter your skill level, I recommend checking out Rockler's class offerings. The W. Broad store is well-organized, clean, and has an expansive inventory of hand- and power-tools for every project, clamps (because "you can never have too many clamps"), literature, and a wide selection of wood, including some exotics. They frequently run specials and promotions. Big box retailers are fine for most items, but if you want to step it up I highly recommend this store. read more

This place is amazing. Everyone who works there knows so much about woodworking and are so helpful in answering questions and offering advice. I did several One-on-one learning sessions with Palo to get some help with a few projects I was working on. He is such a good teacher. I'm so glad I found them. Thanks Palo! read more

Don't order customized items from Rockler. I've been a Rockler customer since 1982. No longer. I ordered a customized branding iron on July 9th 2024. The information I got with the order stated it would ship in 10 business days. I really needed it so I called after 10 business days. Customer service said, "oh it takes three weeks -- please call back. " So I called back, and Customer Service (CS) said they don't know what's happening with my order -- they outsource manufacturing to a vendor in Las Vegas. They wouldn't give me the name or any contact information for the manufacturer. They said the vendor is a small company, and is not good about answering the phone. The Rockler supervisor did not call me back; calls and emails to Rockler's "decision makers" went unanswered. Finally, I was told that they have the order, the vendor would make the branding iron, and ship it on 7/31. I asked for it to be expedited, given the delay -- and offered to pay for the expedited shipping. I was told they don't offer that service. I was given ridiculous excuses, such as "they won't allow metal to be shipped by airplane." I talked to several Rockler representative, and all said that "service" is not offered. Please -- if you ship by UPS, you can choose a number of different ways to ship. But not with Rockler -- congratulations on such a low regard for your customers and customer satisfaction. I ordered a flexcut chisel set and draw knife on Monday, April 20th. The chisels were on sale, and they also offered an additional $25 off. I checked the order status everyday as I was excited to recieve my new tools! My order sat in limbo until Friday the 25th, when it was cancled! When I called to find out why, I was put on hold for 15 minutes and then disconnected! I called back and spoke to someone who claimed my payment sent up a red flag. But I can reorder the items now if I want. Very convenient when the $25 off coupon AND the sale price of the chisels expired on the 24th! I will never order anything from this scam company again! read more

Every time I have to talk with customer service I wonder why in the world I use this company. Their customer service reps are rude and condescending. I have a retail company in MA so I'm tax exempt. There is a check box on the tax exempt form for blanket ordering meaning you apply for tax exempt once and all orders going forward are tax exempt. EVERY other supplier I order from works this way. Not Rockler; I have to fill out a new tax exempt form for every single order I place - and then they deny the exemption, which means I'm going back and forth in a time consuming dance, one I don't have time for. Worse is talking with customer service on the phone: they treat you like you're an idiot - My business partner overheard one of these exchanges and asked why in the world I was purchasing from them. Why indeed! I only use them when I absolutely need to - read more

Wost customer service i have ever seen. I purchased a downloadable plan 8 days ago. When i go my downloadable the site says i have not purchased any downloadable plans and under my order it says still processing. I called and waited forever just to be told give it more time. Rockler is a fine tool store. It is a healthy mix of name brand tools and a large selection of Rockler brand tools and supplies. I am concerned with their billing practices. A few years ago they stopped excepting checks. While this may be the future, virtually every lumber yard, tool store, and hardware store in my area except checks. Personally I shop there less due to the no check policy. More concerning is how Rockler controls and manipulates their customers accounts. Recently I returned a small stone used to enhance sharpening. My reason was the stone in question was artificial produced. Rockler refunded half the actual price, sighting a recent 50% off clearance sale. That sale was in October, I purchased mine in November. Ultimately I did receive a full refund, after challenging the half price refund. Yesterday I bought some adhesive at Rockler, but was not give my ten % discount. When I asked why I was told there were three accounts on their books associated with my name. I asked the store manage to remove to two erroneous accounts, but they are still listed . .If time is money to you, this store might give you pause. read more

I purchased a tool from Rockler, it was not satisfactory as the router bit supplied was dull from the first use , and it burned the wood. I returned the product but did not receive the full purchase amout. Yet they use the 'Saticfaction Gauranteed ' narrative on their WEB site. I won't be buying from them again. I was a loyal customer for many years. No Longer, I'll shop eslewhere. read more

Since customer service told me that I could not cancel an order I placed, I needed to return the order. Customer service told me, "As a company policy it is on the customer to pay for return shipping unless the item arrives defective or damaged." I made an online purchase and received a gift card as a promotion. Later when I went to use the gift card it was expired, since when do gift cards expire? There was no information in the email they sent me about an expiration date. I contacted customer service, they were no help and referred me to the "real" customer service. I guess they have a third party customer service called Buyatab that is more of a distraction than actual service. So they told me there was nothing they could do, and I told them I would take my business elsewhere. read more

Holy Toledo this place is so incredible. They have it all from clamps and bits and jigs to exotic blanks and woods to giant power tools. Whether you want to spend some of your money or all of the money you have ever had, they are more than happy to oblige. I placed an order for Cutting Board Juice Groove Routing Jig on 11/21/23. Email confirmation said "Please allow up to 2 weeks for economy delivery" I waited almost 3 weeks before contacting Rockler by email. The return email said "Thank you for submitting your customer care request. Our goal is to review all requests within four business hours. Depending on your request, you should hear back from us soon." Like with the shipping info it was too a lie. Today (3 weeks from the day I ordered) I was told that the item was more popular than anticipated and the next shipment will be coming in at the end of January 2024. When asked why their system doesn't notify customers about backorders the response was "it doesn't do that". This was not very helpful as this was to be used to build Christmas gifts so now I am going to have to find something else to build. When I asked to speak with his manager I was told that it won't likely happen and he was right. When he came back on the line he said they were all busy. He said I could send a letter in the mail to the company to file a complaint. Not great customer service or company culture. I had the rep remove my account from their system so I will no longer receive anything from them. read more

*Do not use this company if you're building products for clients and have deadlines to meet.* Their customer service is abysmal. My shipment of 6 small slide locks was obviously lost as the UPS tracker had it in one location for 12 days. "Customer service" wouldn't do anything until 10 business days expired and then all they could do was request a re-ship. $25.00 worth of parts delayed delivery of a $5000.00 table. read more

Beware with using online orders with Rockler. Just make sure you have PLENTY of time to receive the order. Website fails to let you know they don't accept resale certificates but allows you to mark the order tax exempt and send support. That little detail resulted in my order being held and delayed my order even though I had already paid for 2 day UPS. Next, once my order delayed, they felt no responsibility to help expedite it. Their lack of clarity is my financial responsibility. Result is I had to pay an additional $80 to get it here the day before I needed it for a job. A little more information on the site could have saved me money. But not their problem according to them. Just make sure you have plenty of time to work around the pitfalls Rockler fails to communicate. And then to add a little insult, the customer service rep responds, "You should have known." Nice finishing touch guys! Not a good first impression. read more

Amazing store. Everyone that works there is super kind, knowledgeable and patient. Even with us newbies to woodworking:) I even called in the midst of my project once I had left the store and they happily gave helpful tips and feedback . 5 stars. I love woodworking, it's one of my favorite things to do in my spare time. And these people here know their stuff, they are really nice and helpful even if you don't have much clue about wood or furniture building. They make recommendations, give you tips, and best of all, honest opinions. I've bought many things here when I took furniture/woodworking classes and I haven't been disappointed. They have a ton of stuff, more than you think you actually see (woods, hardware, mechanisms...), so if you don't see it, just ask them. Another plus is student discount! Also, sign up for their mailing address too, they'll send you coupons often. Usually a hardware store is not my idea of fun shopping, but going here really is. The store is somewhat small, but not really, so it has kind of a local feeling to it. It is so much better than Home Depot IMO. read more

I ordered something was not stocked in their stores or by Rocklers. I tried to pay the additional shipping when I ordered this item. I was told no I will not have to pay the additional shipping. Rocklers says it sent me an email asking for the additional shipping. I do not know where they sent it but I did not receive it. I did get the order cancelation email. My project is now about 2 weeks behind schedule. There is a reason that we have spent 1/20th the amount with rocklers this year than we have with one of their competitors. Avoid them if you can. read more

The San Diego store is consistently horrible. I'm never asked if I need help finding something, I always have to ask an employee, even when they can see I've been walking around for 15 minutes. They're frequently out of stock on the most common items - glue and hardware in particular. Their terrible website isn't useful for checking store stock. When I do use that feature, it's invariably wrong when I make a useless trip there, or simply says to call the store for stock. When I call, I'm often routed to voice mail (REALLY!?). When I do get someone, I'm often placed on hold for extended periods. For instance, right now I've been on hold for 14 minutes and counting. Woodcraft - Please open a San Diego store! I hate this place. read more

I'm giving Rockler five stars because they're not only the only store of their kind in the area (and thus the top store of their kind), but because they own me and my wallet now, so I have to do what they say. Why Rockler is good: Simply put, they are the only place around that sells this stuff. Every oddball hinge and precision measuring tool, clamp, chisel, etc. you need is here. Frankly, it almost makes no sense that this much is available without having to go online for it. But you will frequently find tools you never knew existed for problems you did, and sometimes they will go on sale, and you will triumphantly march out of the store when they do feeling slightly ahead in the tool arms race all us tool junkies get into. Why you might be disappointed: Rockler can be very expensive, which is why you learn to follow their sales religiously. I have done way better than at Home Depot on items Home Depot leads with in their advertising. But if you want a Festool guide saw like Tommy Silva uses, you're going to pay through the nose for it. However, this is the kind of place you could probably come back to every week for a year and say "I'm not sure I'm using my Festool saw right" and they'd help you. Good frigging luck getting anything of the kind from HD (who don't even carry Festool anyway). Plus, inevitably, Rockler will make you greedy, and you will unreasonably want ever more arcane tools and products from them than they can possibly offer. Why can't I have a digital level that does trigonometry and levitates my workpiece while drawing 3D laser outlines of my plans? Huh, Rockler? Super nice people working here ice the cake -- they get why you're there, and they are just as amazed at the stuff they sell as you. No high horse here, as is found in some specialty stores. read more

You know you want to start woodworking. And when you do, Rockler is going to be your hookup, your go-to. You'll develop a Rockler dependency like you don't even know. The folks there are incredibly kind, helpful, and patient. Every time we go we spend over a hundred dollars (it's a drug, man), and the employees get embarrassed at the total and offer us the "guild discount." It's sweet. At first I worried about the feasibility of such a store if they go around giving guild discounts like nothing (or maybe only to girls, what do I know), but it turns out that Rockler is part of a nationally-recognized and very highly-functioning chain of woodworking suppliers. Who'd a thunk? Now I'm just grateful to have Rockler within walking distance. read more

Love this place, staff is super helpful and their selection is great. Came in frustrated with a router jig as it kept failing to make quality box joints, and the friendly staff (particularly Palo and the manager) introduced me to the Leigh jig which performed above and beyond my expectations creating box joints and dovetails so clean and tight that they required no glue, impressive. Thanks guys! Mike read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. They advertise one thing and sent me another. I called, they acknowledged their mistake and refuse to correct it. Unbelievable store - makes me with I'd paid more attention in 7th grade shop class so I could make more wood-things and frequent the place more often! I came in this morning looking for something to shave down a crappy particle board drawer and buy some stain, and *two* guys spent close to 45 minutes helping me make exactly the right purchases for my meager needs. I came here on the recommendation of a contractor-friend, so I knew they'd have good supplies, but I was floored by the great customer service - not condescending or dismissive at any point, and willing to show me how the tools worked and pieces-in-progress to make sure I was satisfied. Could this place get any better? Well, yes, if they they offered woodworking classes so I could know how to use all the awesome stuff they sell. Also, if they sold every kind of home improvement equipment possible so I'd never have to go to Home Despot again... That'd be worth 6 stars. read more

I agreed with the others - this place is great. The staff is very knowledgeable and they have a lot of interesting products. If I could give zero stars, I would. Purchased a product and was told it was on backorder. Okay, a bummer but that happens. I was given a new shipping date that was a month out. It has now been FIVE MONTHS and I still have not received my product. I have had four separate emails about a "new delivery date" without any explanation or apologies! I reached out to customer service multiple times and each person was less helpful than the last, offering little to no advice on how to proceed. I finally said I wanted a refund for the item and got a short email back saying they will MAIL a GIFT CARD for the amount that will arrive in ONE TO TWO WEEKS. (Oh and no tracking for it either. surprise surprise.) After such a horrid experience with not receiving an item you would think the least they could do is give an e-gift card (which I know they offer and have purchased for gifts in the past) that I would have immediately or a refund to my card. I guess I will just spend the next one to two weeks (to five months?) convincing others not to waste their time and money here. So disappointing. read more

If you are in need of woodworking tools, exotic woods, honest and expert advice, this is the place for you. I found the 1" tall dovetail router bit that I have been looking for. I also *almost* bought the cutest little bowl-making lathe. Came to my senses in time. Rockler is stocked with all sorts of hardwoods in sizes ranging from "pen handle" to "dugout canoe." I'm sort of a wood geek, but not nearly so much as the guys who work here. It ain't a hardware store. You cannot get plumbing supplies or an electrical outlet.
