I planned a company outing for my co-workers. I chose this place cause my husband and I are members here and I wanted to take advantage of the % off so I could come in UNDER budget. I had never been to the location but, had enjoyed the bottles at home over the years. I had always taken my husband's word on how wonderful the spot was. So I took a gamble on hosting a good portion of our day here. We had planned for a private tour and lunch on the Friday before the holiday (4th July) weekend. The place was packed and we arrived late due to traffic but, we still got a wonderful tour. Right away my co-workers were impressed with the wine so I started to relax. We then were hosted into the Daniel Cellar for lunch. The lunch was nothing less than amazing. We had a combo of the Captains Reserve wines and the CASK wines. We enjoyed a Summer Squash Salad and then rolled into the Roasted Wagyu beef Culotte. The highlight was the Turnip and Yukon gold potato "pave" and the mushrooms served on the side of the steak! To top off the lovely lunch..."Golden Polenta Cake with macerated strawberries." We were spoiled from the moment we arrived till the moment we left. I worked with Gemma in prep and with Mike onsite. Our tour guide was Stan and he was full of knowledge on wine and the valley it made the start of our trip rich in experience. Everyone exceeded my expectations. Our next stop was Opus One. Lovely location but, the wine wasn't in the top pick for our team. Rubicon won that by a large margin! And ... I did come in well under budget! read more

What can I say about this place ... AMAZING! I had a dinner here for 24 people for a team offsite, this event is still being talked about! I have known of this winery for a very long time, outstanding wine, really cool history, and the beauty of one of the oldest chateaus in Napa Valley. I have always wanted to do an event at this winery, so when I reach out, I was given an opportunity to take a tour of the premises. This was not a hard sell for me at all however the staff was inviting and so professional, I ended up becoming a member as soon as the tour was over. Ryan the coordinator assisted me in setting up this event, he was attentive and very accommodating to my requests. He had suggestions along with all of my special request, in order to make this event special for my team. I was introduced to chef Alex, who meticulously planned my menu for me, and was very accommodating with again all the dietary requests. When we arrive we had the chateau to ourselves, the team literal felt like royalty! The dinner table and atmosphere of the room was truly something right out of a Coppola movie set. We had a long table, flowers, candlelight, and a dinner made especially for us. The wine was paired to perfection and all could think about through dinner was "How on earth can I top this one"! This was by far the most stunning of all the wineries we visited in terms of landscaping and architecture. When I pictured Napa, this is what I had in mind. Sommeliers at your table teaching you about the wine, trying $100 to $200 bottles of wine that you normally wouldn't get to sample, and an atmosphere that is borderline haughty but not too much. I did have to knock off a star because their bathroom situation was somewhat awful. They basically have an outdoor restroom that you'd find at a zoo, I can't imagine how awful that would be in the winter. There are a few stalls upstairs but they aren't a ton better - just warmer. read more

This beautiful and historical winery was recommended by the super nice lady at the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce and I'm so glad she suggested it. It was a little tough to find, but I'm so glad that we did. It was exactly what I imagined a winery in Italy to be like, it was so gorgeous. There are beautiful views of the vineyard from the top of the grounds and the fountain and buildings are so wonderful. Inside, there's a little museum of the history of the original winery and then when Francis Ford Coppola took over the estate. If you go up the breath taking staircase, there's another mini museum upstairs that's amazing. There's also an amazing stain glass window at the top of the stairs that showcases the Niebaum-Coppola name. It's fantastic. If we had more time, it would have been totally worth the $50 per person to tour the grounds, winery and tasting to find out more about the history and background of the estate. This place is so beautiful! I loved the water fountain in front of the building and the vines growing alongside the building. I wish I had more time to get a bottle and drink at one of the tables in front of the building. I came here this previous weekend to go the Elevage tour and it was both very entertaining and educational. Our tour guide knew a lot about wine and the process it takes to grow the grapes, process it to the barrels, etc. The tour started out with a little history about Inglenook and then we went on a short stroll to look at the grapes and enjoy the amazing view. The tour ended at a private table with wine tasting, bread, and cheeses. Yum, what a way to end a tour. All in all, I enjoyed the wines, the tour (being my first), and place. I fell in love with the wine and the location when I visited the Rubicon Estate in Napa. It used to be called the Niebaum-Coppola Winery for those that have visited them in the past. I have been a fan of the Coppola diamond series wine for a long time and my husband and I were excited to see the winery and taste the wines. It was absolutely delicious and we were so impressed we immediately joined their wine club (very reasonable) and even bought some wine to ship back! They have several tasting rooms, the one for those whom are not wine club members is also their gift shop with a bar on one side. Everyone was very friendly and the pourings are generous! The estate is also beautiful, although we ran out of time and were unable to take the tour. A must-stop for Napa visitors for both a photo op and a wine tasting! read more

This review is for the venue, not the wine. It's a 3.5 but not enough to bump to a yelp 4.0 due to the circus feel I got. The grounds are beautiful with a great view across the valley and a fountain in the font near open picnic seating. One inside it's amazing. Start at the food/wine bar on the left an walk through the private reserve and dining rooms into the great hall of crap. It was interesting to see all the branded merchandise. I came here to sample wine not shop for stuff I don't need. Over the top to say the least. This is a repeat for sure. With a cafe, you can bring a picnic or order up snacks with a glass or even a bottle. Plan to spend some time here. It's worth it. read more

Visited Rubicon Estate in 2007 within a private small tour group of only 4. Our guide was a member therefore the backroom tasting fee was waived. I think this is were I first realized I was in love with wine; by far my favorite was the Cuvee Rutherford 2005. I purchased a bottle, joined their club and received over the next year 2 additional bottles...it just gets better and better with age. The grounds are beautiful to meander through and I hear that on a pleasant day you actually may see Mr. Coppola siting at the table sharing a bottle or two. read more

Francis Ford Coppola sure knows how to please a crowd. Not only did he produce one of the greatest movies of all time, he's reconstructed this estate into one of the most gorgeous, historic chateaus in Napa Valley. While our group wasn't ready to dump out $50 for the grand tasting, we just roamed freely around the grounds and settled with a glass purchase at the cafe. The view into the valley is as serene as you can imagine. The majestic fountain centralized in the courtyard gives this place such a calm surrender, it's easy to let your thoughts wander into space. The chateau itself is a sight to see. We didn't get a chance to explore every inch of the estate, but there's a lot of history behind each wall. I hope to get the chance to take the grand tour one day. The wine itself was very tasty, but a tad pricey for my personal preference. The glass of zin I tried was extremely rich and oaky, but went down smooth. I'll have to come back in the near future for the full on experience. In the mean time, who says you can't enjoy a perfect photo op? read more

Boyfriend and I stayed in Yountville and visited The Rubicon/Inglenook estate because of its close proximity to our hotel. (It was late afternoon and raining, so we didn't want to drive out too far!) The grounds were beautiful. The vine-wrapped mansion was beautiful, even in the rain. And the terrace and fountain outside boasted great views of the vineyards surrounding. There were some tables outside, but I did notice signs on the lawns prohibited picnicking. Inside, a hostess greeted us, and directed us toward the Bistro and estate museum. The Bistro was small, quaint, and cozy. You walk through several stone wine cellars to get to it, and can order sandwiches, snacks, hot beverages, and tasting or full size glasses of wine. I tried the Pennino Zin ($15 per 4oz glass), and boyfriend tried the Rubicon estate ($30). They were tasty, but honestly nothing we considered buying a bottle of.. We opted to skip the tour, and instead checked out the winery our own. But we were able to take our wine from the Bistro with us upstairs to the museum, which was great. The museum is a mix of 1800 heritage of the estate and original family, as well as Francis Coppola's antique film camera collection. Kind of cool, but having no real knowledge of film history, it didn't interest me very much. I would have liked more pieces and information about the original winery and estate, instead of cameras. Overall we spent about an hour here. But if it was a sunny beautiful day we could have spent more time outside. If you're staying nearby though it's a nice place to stop by! read more

Very cool and iconic Napa winery. It's owned by the Coppola family and purports to be one of the first wineries in the entire valley. You can go to the grounds for free and either pay for a tasting/tour or just purchase an individual glass from the cafe and walk around. For the former, you most likely need to make a reservation. There is a small museum on the second floor of some family items, including movie props and such. You can also view the storage tunnels/caves and other parts of the property. It's a great way to spend a few hours in Napa. read more

Before heading up to Smith Madrone, I wanted to hit the opposite end of the spectrum so what better place than Rubicon. Getting past some of the cheesy factor, it truly is a beautiful property. We started a tour, but it was taking too long... they said it would be 30 minutes... so we skipped ahead to tasting. I think they would do well to make the tour a little more formal... it seemed kind of second rate for as nice as the property is. The Captain's reserve line was excellent, we tried the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and the Zin. All were top notch and great quality for where they were priced ($20-30 I believe). Cask and Rubicon were both spectacular wines. I left with bottles of Cask, Capt Res Chard and Zin. All in all, had we not gone for the tour and had to rush into tasting (we had another appt) I could have rated this 5 stars. If you are thinking about a tour there, it will probably run longer than what they say it will. They should have the movie memorabilia there too... it's their showcase property, not sure why they would move it. read more

I really like this place. A friend of mine is a member and had access to the whole place, so he gave us a self guided tour. The history of this building was magnificent. They preserved it very well and the details where on point. The car upstairs was beautiful. The decor was old but it was matching the theme throughout. The drinking area was well lit and the servers were very nice and well knowledgeable of the wines and anything onsite. We actually go to taste a new wine they made that won't be out until 2019. We felt very privileged. The sites outside was very breathtaking. The drive out is long but worth it. Everything is very very pricey. So plan to spend to eat and drink. What a treasure Inglenook is! I happened upon Inglenook after researching some new wineries to visit. While I usually go to the more popular wineries, I've been trying to find wineries with other attracting factors, such as art galleries, scenery, architecture, etc. so get the most out of each visit. Upon arriving to the front parking lot, you'll only see a charming, tiny glass structure to the right side of the gates. You'll go in and check in with the host to make sure that there's space to accommodate your party. Once they've confirmed, you'll receive a ticket to open the gate, which you'll drive through and proceed down the road to the actually winery itself. The estate itself is very large, very beautiful, with a fountain in the front. It wasn't too crowded and relatively quiet. You will enter through the center door of the chateau, where there will be a reception desk in the lobby on your right side. You check in and pay there for your tastings. After that they'll lead you through the gift shop and to the tasting room. The tasting room was very grand. Each party has their own table and own wine educator to guide them through their tastings, answer questions, etc. While the standard tasting is a bit more expensive than most other wineries ($45), it comes with more than just the wine. After each pour, the wine educator will give you some background on the estate, the wine, or the history of the winery itself. For some, it may not be as interesting, but I really enjoyed the facts and tidbits of info. The educator will come around periodically to check up on you for your next pour. In addition, you also get a platter of cheese and crackers. There are a number of other tastings/tours you can choose from that are more in-depth. While the wines were decent, the pricing for the better wines was a bit much, so we did not end up buying any bottles. After finishing our tastings, we decided to explore the chateau a bit. You can go up the grand staircase in the lobby to the second floor, where there is a small gallery of artifacts. There's also bathrooms upstairs. From the lobby you can take the path opposite of the tasting room, through a hall lined with barrels, to the end where there's a café on the left side of the chateau (you can also access it from the outside of the chateau. There's a selection of coffee in case you get a little sleep from the wine and need a boost in your day, along with cookies, crackers, snacks, etc. You can also buy a single glass of wine at the café if you don't feel like spending the money on the tasting. There are some tables and chairs in front for you to sit and enjoy your wine and take in the scenery. Enough though the price tag was more than most, I think it was worth it. The ambiance is great and it's such a great place to just relax and enjoy your wine. You can learn a little, drink a little, and explore a little. You might also spot the chef's dog roaming around the estate/inside the tasting room! read more

I love everything about this winery!! The people here are so nice. Every single person my wife and I came in contact with were so great. The wines are PHENOMENAL. Make sure you try to the Rubicon when you're there, you won't regret it. And if you have the funds for it, I'd recommend getting a library vertical of the Rubicon to taste the difference of each year. The taste of each year was amazing in their own way. The bistro room is very beautiful and there are tables outside overlooking a gorgeous vineyard! This winery should be near the top of your Napa trip list without a doubt! read more

Inglenook is a members only establishment. It's all about who you know. The place is vintage, but very well kept. The tasting, the exhibits, and the history all make for a great experience. The wine Master made the day. He really knew his stuff and made sure that we left with more than just cheese and bread. We got to sample a wine that won't be released until 2019. But the day did not stop at the picnic. Since, I'm a member at the Rubicon. I get to do some testing in the back room for free. The testing normally would cost $50 per person with testing of up to 4 of their library wines, What included in our testing, First, I get to sample 4 glasses of 1-2 oz of Rubicon wines and cheese pairing. I don't know if I was lucky or not. My GF and I get to sample 5 drinks from 3x$50 a bottle and 2x$150 a bottle. I remember it was 2000 and 2005, that we were drinking from. read more

We went there on a Labor Day weekend, it's such a nice winery. -reservation: it's strongly recommended to make an reservation prior to your visit -environment: it's a very beautiful winery garden. By the time we went there, the grapes were still growing, the whole view of the winery was so green. It's definitely refreshing your eyes and soul. -service: as soon as we checkin with the front desk, we were seated, and our server Jesse came over and introduced their wine to us. He was very knowledgeable about wine, he gave us a lot of information about the winery and the restaurants that we love to go. He was nice and helpful, that's why we ended up with signing up as a member. -wine: since we were told the history and the processing of each wine, we could taste somewhat similar to what he told us. He provided us extra glass of aged wine which was out of the tasting menu, and that experience glass gave us a full body feel of the wine. We both enjoyed and appreciated his kindness. Inglenook is absolutely, fantastically, beautiful. So picturesque, like from a movie. I couldn't stop taking photos (which don't do it justice). Absolutely gorgeous, I want to live upstairs lol. First off, it's a bit further north than actual Napa, but totally worth the drive. It's very serene, has gorgeous views of the vineyards, and just so...perfect. Came with a couple of friends for the day. The bistro was our first stop for some snacks. We sat in the sun, had some fresh horseradish cheese with some freshly baked bread, and chatted for a few hours. The tree with oranges and lemons have a sign that specifically say not to pick the fruit (but what if it's fallen on the ground? No, I didn't take it but totally wanted to!). The museums inside are just as awesome. You'll regret it if you don't make this one of your main stops in Napa. read more

Stop #5 on the Yelp Napa wine tour. Rubicon was on our agenda after our lunch and tasting at Phelps and had really high standards to live up to. As a member of their club, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. Rubicon/Coppola is striking and grabs your attention from the moment you step out of your car and onto their fabulously manicured and sculpted grounds. This place has one purpose... to Wow! the viewer with its grandeur and elegance. Beautiful rolling lawns overlooking the vineyards across the highway, with the magnificent castle in the background... this looks like a movie set but it's very real! And worth the trip even if you are not a wine drinker. The grounds, with the huge fountain and the large, trellis shaded outdoor patio adjoining it, are almost set up to host weddings - maybe that's their purpose. I, for one, would love to get married here - it's one of my favorite places in Napa :) Take note ;p Members get the benefit of using the private tasting room that is opulent and comfortable. You check in and you are walked back (with your guests) to your seating area (reservations required). We were a couple of people over the limit (two of us were members and could each bring 4 guests) but our pourer and host was extremely gracious about it and waived the tasting fee for the extra guests (at $25 a person, this was quite generous and the pourer shall remain unnamed to protect the innocent :D You also get a cheese plate and some wonderful fresh bread to go with your tastings. The wines were memorable as always... I love their Captain's Reserve wines here - a tremendous value for the money when compared to their Estate wines which all require a fair bit of cellaring to realize their full potential. The Captain's Reserve wines could definitely benefit from some cellaring but are also excellent to drink right now. We bought quite a lot of wine there - I added quite significantly to my collection at home - something I completely anticipated would happen - haha :) After the tasting, spent some time wandering upstairs checking out the museum... I've never been there in the Coppola days and I understand the museum has been considerably depleted. That's too bad because I do love poking around old stuff and movie memorabilia in particular!!!! The wine tasting is not cheap and the winery has a somewhat formal and rigid feel about it so set your expectations accordingly. I really feel this place, particularly the service, is deteriorating and I will not be returning. The wines were all overpriced and the people were particularly smug. It became evident upon arrival that they are selling a brand, not wine. While the grounds are beautiful, the wine tasting experience was far from special and a poor way for us to start the Napa experience. We paid $50 for the exclusive estate tasting. The wines were nothing exclusive and highly overpriced. I was with some first timers so felt like doing one of the "larger" winery experiences would be nice for them to try. However, 5 minutes in and I knew I'd made a mistake. With hundreds of wineries in Napa I recommend choosing a small production that is passionate about the wine. Honig, a 5 minute drive from Coppola is much more authentic and personal in terms of the tasting room. Avoid at all costs. read more

Loved Inglenook! Everyone here was so nice, welcoming, and accommodating. David made us feel right at home upon our arrival. NOT snooty at all compared to some other wineries we visited (please see my reviews for exceptionally snooty winery that you should NOT visit). They have a nice sitting area where you can enjoy your purchases from the bistro at ease. Really loved it here. Will definitely come back again and recommend to all visiting friends and family! WARNING!!!! They are still charging $25 per person to visit this place, but have removed Francis Ford Coppola's Hollywood memorabilia! We drove all the way up here as my sister (who was visiting from out of state) had read about it and was interested in the winery but really wanted to see the memorabilia. As we stepped out of the car into their pretentious valet parking, we were warned by the greeter that while "Francis has rolled out the red carpet for his guests" (literally - it's quite hokey), he has removed his movie memorabilia as he now wants the focus to be on the wine, not on him. And honey, the wine is not worth $25 (you get to taste about an ounce of 5 of them). Nor is the short and unenlightening tour of the attractive but not stunning building and grounds. And the scripted dialogue that the staff has forced on them will make you cringe. Hard to believe the boss is an Oscar-winning screenwriter and director. This is now officially a HUGE rip-off (so much so that we are writing them a complaint letter). Save your money and go to some other winery - there are lots of wonderful ones to visit and you can put that $25 towards a good bottle to take home. UPDATE: Complaint letter sent to them a month ago but no response whatsoever. I've written a fair number of complaint letters to businesses over the years and at the least you get a form apology in reply. But so far, nothing. read more

You MUST plan on visiting Inglenook!! The pixs on this site don't even do it justice. It is a beautiful place! You feel as though you have been taken to Italy and away from the crowds. The cafe is very cute with a beautiful setting. The interior is gorgeous. We could stay here all day. My husband and I have visited for 4 or 5 years now. Always on our anniversary ~ and have always been shown genuine hospitality. This year was no exception. The Cask and Rubicon are WONDERFUL! This year we discovered 2011 Edizione Pennino Zin ~ and we are not Zin lovers ~ but this is luscious and the history behind the name so loving. We did the Heritage Tasting ~ the experience was perfect ~ as always, we learned something new. We, too, had one of the newest members, from France, and he knew his business without being stuffy. Loved it. Then we perused the phenomenal gift area. Anything you could want or need for a gift for yourself or bring home to friends. We met the sweetest person, Megan Harvey. She was so helpful and attentive. My husband had bought me a small silver cluster of grapes for my bracelet last year for anniversary. Unfortunately, I lost it before we even got home. (No fault of Inglenook) My loving husband replaced the trinket this visit. Megan helped him and even remembered us from the previous year. No, it's not that it took us. like, about an hour to find this place - that was our collective Compass-the-almost-homing-pigeon moment ("collective" including 3 adults AND a GPS navigator!), Nor was it the "valet" parking, being totally unnecessary as the almost-empty parking lot was literally just feet away - I guess is was a nice thought. And it was not the $25 for a five-wine tasting and afore-mentioned-totally-unnecessary "valet" parking (I would normally expect about ten wines for such a price - but that would be too many!). It was the snotty attitude of the young lady as she informed me that it would cost me $25 to even step out of the car and how "things had changed since", she sneered, "everyone used to be able to come in and just wander around!". Well - I was one of those "everyone" who used to like to do that - wander around the beautiful grounds and well-appointed house, look over some memorabilia, and finish it off with a nice $10 taster. This wine tasting was very thorough and professional - very informative. The four wines were very good.

I'm seeing reviews saying it's not worth it and those saying it's well worth it. Here's the thing, if you like the wine, it's well worth the $45 (in our case). But if you are in Napa to experience a little of everything then there are other wineries that offer still pretty good wine at an affordable price. In our case, after we did the wine tasting I wish I'd come here straight because that's where I'd spend my money. But if we didn't go to V. Sattui we wouldn't have got the recommendation to come here. We didn't do any of the tour, just the sit down wine tasting and cheese pairing. In a nutshell, what happened was that we went to V.Sattui for our first stop. On the average the wine was good, until they brought out a bottle of 2005 cabernet and let us taste some. We were blown away. It was a complete game changer, and during the conversation the staff brought up Inglenook and that's why we decided to pay a visit. From the way the staff here dressed, I expected them to be snobbish but they were really nice. This was a sit down tasting and because it wasn't crowded we had a chance to ask questions and take our time to evaluate what we liked. The tasting featured four estate reds - a zinfandel, a syrah, a cabernet sauvignon and the rubicon. We decided to pay $25 more to upgrade to a 2005 rubicon. Like I said, for us it didn't disappoint, all of the wines we tasted were beautiful. I didn't know much about zinfandels and didn't think I would like it but I was wrong. At the end of it we were seriously thinking about joining the wine club. Interestingly we didn't buy any wine during the trip - for the simple reason that we don't yet have a wine fridge and we don't want to spoil the good stuff in the summer months where our house is a furnace. Here's another thing - if you don't know what you like and want to try a little of everything, go to other wineries because they offer flights of 5 or 6 and you can each order different ones just to try. A number of places also offer 1 for 1 tastings. If you know what you like and want to go straight to tasting the best, go for wine tastings like this. Having done both, I enjoy them in different ways. And this is just my humble opinion - it's really hard to say for example, for $x cheaper I can get a bottle of syrah at another place. Because that bottle is not this bottle. They are never really the same so if this is the bottle you like then trying to comparing the value is really moot point. read more
