    2021 Hyundai Calligraphy

I don't necessarily dread buying car... but it's not something I get excited for. I do enjoy the negotiation and occasionally the people at the dealership are fun though! High Level: new management here.. good experience and pricing.. give them a chance. Wife's car had gotten up there in miles and may have been turning a corner from a 'tool', to a 'tool' that was going to start costing us money. So she started looking for a new one. We looked and test drove some cars at other dealerships.. but when she decided on a new car, it became purely about getting a good deal and feeling comfortable about who we were dealing with. Wife fell in love with the Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy edition.. so shopping we went! Chatted with 3 dealerships and got initial pricing from each of them. Got an 'out the door price' from one but didn't feel like we were getting a good deal. The next morning I pinged Indy Hyundai online and got an immediate response from Angie, chatted with her on the phone for a bit to explain what we were looking to do. 45 minutes later, wife and I finished lunch and headed to Indy Hyundai in hopes of putting together a deal. Angie had told me that she was on the leadership team and would be roping in one of her sales guys/mangers, Kohlin. We ended up taking a look at a couple Calligraphy editions in different colors, then narrowed it down to 2 that had the options that best fit our lifestyle. From there it was off the races... how much could we get for our trade? How much can we get the car for? Overall, we got slightly more for our trade then another dealership had offered.. and we got the calligraphy for a reasonable price. We were looking at the bottom line "out the door price", encompassing all taxes, fees, out trade in, etc. Our out the door price ended up being a few grand less than the bottom line/best price we'd gotten from another local Hyundai dealership. We left with a beautiful new car and content on the deal we got. Thank you Angie, Kohlin and the other folks we dealt with Additional details... in the few hours we spent there looking and wrapping things up we came to learn: Dealership under new management as of recent (couple months maybe?) Only 1 or 2 people from the old regime are still there, so don't let an old review or experience keep you from giving them a chance The dealership interior is a bit drab... it's slated for a much needed renovation/facelift in the coming months Car buying doesn't have to be a pain.. we had a good time Financing was easy.. and cash is cheap right now, so we financed the whole thing. Will pay it off when we want to. They give a $200 referral fee if you sent friends/family/yelp contacts (:)) their way and they buy.

Do not recommend. Went in for an oil change, left with a car maintenance (and customer service)…read moreproblem. After my routine oil change, my car began leaking oil. I returned to the Valvoline later the same day. There was one employee left for the day, even though it was more than an hour before they closed, and he said he wouldn't be able to "do anything" on his own (?) but went below the car to check. He said it was just "frame oil" meaning oil dripped during the change. He said he wiped it up and I should be good. When I woke up the next morning, my car was still leaking oil. My partner took the car in and had them re-do the oil change. He also checked my tire pressure and found one of the tires was almost flat. He asked the Valvoline employees if they checked my tire pressure the day before and they said they did. While Valvoline claims that oil change services include an 18-point maintenance check, which includes tire pressure, my receipt from the day before indicated that the tire pressure was not checked. So I guess you have to explicitly ask for air in your tires, even though the marketing includes that as part of the service you're paying for. Amazing. The re-did oil change was performed free of charge. It did not fix the leak. So began a claim process with Valvoline corporate. Valvoline corporate had me get the issue diagnosed at a mechanic and get a quote. The diagnosis was that the oil filter housing was crushed and damaged. Apparently not uncommon at quick oil change places that use machines and move quickly. Quote was more than $300. There was also a nail in my tire. Good to know. So I sent the quote to Valvoline corporate. They said they'd get back to me within 48 hours. I called back a few days later, they said they had to wait for the manager to approve it. This went on for a couple weeks. At one point a call rep mentioned offhand that the money had already been transferred to the mechanic for the work. I asked if I could go get the work done then, since Valvoline had paid for it. They said no, we had to wait for the local Valvoline location manager to approve it, that's "just how it works." They would put me on hold and call the branch and no one would answer. What a huge flaw in the system, huh. That happened multiple times. Valvoline corporate assured me they would call me back and they never, not once, did. After about a month, my car slowly leaking oil this entire time, I called one last time. The rep pulled up my claim and immediately apologized and said he was escalating it to every manager and they would get back to me the next business day. I waited a week after that and then finally just went to the mechanic and got the fix done that Valvoline had already paid for. I'm not sure why any sane person would wait as long as I did to get a "green light" from a manager who clearly did not care. The customer service process seems intentionally created to put all the burden on the customer. What is happening that nowadays we go to a get an oil change, receive a maintenance problem instead, and the company runs in circles for five weeks. At least my car was drivable in the meantime. At least Valvoline did pay for the repair. But I should have at the very least also received a refund for the botched oil change in the first place without having to ask.

This colorful mural is the work of Dan Thompson, artistically known as Handskillz. He completed the…read morepiece in 2021 as part of Jiffy Lube's Mural Project, which is part of their Growing People through Work initiative and is in collaboration with the Arts Council of Indianapolis. It only took him about 60-75 hours to finish. As fate would have it the location of the mural happens to also be in the neighborhood Thompson grew up in. The mural depicts one of Thompsons' trademark characters, a robot, holding a tiny cat in its hand and looking eye to eye with it. Its background story is that it reflects a chance encounter between two passing strangers who appear to be very different but upon looking each other in the eye they discover one thing they have in common--green eyes. It is a very colorful mural that is painted in a graffiti style, which is also Thompson's trademark. I like the contrast that the mural's orange background has with the robot. You can see the robot and graffiti style in another of his famous pieces located in fountain square titled, The Creation of Adam. When speaking about the mural Thompson has said, "I see my robots as scavengers, adding parts and upgrading themselves as they move along; not unlike us. With feral cats being literal scavengers, I saw a parallel between the two. I wanted to show an encounter between two roaming strangers and despite all of their differences, they recognize something in each other. Maybe they're not so different after all." Parking here to get a closer look is simple. You can pull into the Jiffy Lube parking lot or just outside of it, park, get out and get a closer look. This is a decent mural, that has a lot going on for the eyes. Thompson does great work and is one of the area's top street artists.
