We head to the counter and order the lunch plate special of 1/4 Chicken Jerk which comes with rice and beans and cabbage sides. The clerk is all business. The plate takes about 10 minutes to prep. Most people are taking their orders to go, but we eat at a table in the dining room. The jerk chicken tastes excellent - spicy, tender and moist. The enormous helping of rice and beans are flavorful, perfectly seasoned. The cabbage/carrot mix is very good. The portions are generous and shareable. Prices are very reasonable. There is a 3% surcharge for credit cards use. We paid cash. There is shared parking in the strip mall lot. The restrooms are immaculate. I recommend highly. The food is great.

By the time we left, they were open for business inside. There is A LOT to be said for a business opening under the circumstances that they can work under, so I really appreciated them being open and serving! I ordered the vegetable stew, a veggie pattie, and a jerk chicken kid's meal. You will get so much food even with the kid's meal. The chicken was cooked very well and tasted delicious. I ordered the spicy sauce, and while I think it could have been much hotter, I think most people would find it sufficiently spicy. I would 100% get the vegetable stew and the jerk chicken again, but would probably pass on the pattie. Nothing wrong with it, but the other dishes were just that much more amazing that I'd like to save room for them. Don't hesitate to give this location a chance. You won't regret it!

2022-12-28. Yaso Jamaican Grill. Indianapolis, IN…read more A stand-alone building located at Spruce & Prospect streets, Yaso is an unsuspecting place nested amongst the homes in Fountain Square on the southeast side of Indianapolis. There is free parking if you enter off Spruce street but there are only about 10 spots. There is also an outdoor patio just out front if you prefer the open air. Being winter, we opted for the warmth of the indoors with our meal. The staff is super friendly here and they have two separate dining areas and a bar. The menu covers all your Caribbean staples; Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, Curry Chicken, Oxtail, Ackee & Saltfish, and Fricassee Chicken. They also have some freshly made juices and a variety of imported sodas. We went with the Jerk Chicken (of course), and a Curry Goat. We also ordered a fresh mango guava to help wash it all down. They also claimed to serve authentic Jamaican Rum Cake, so of course we had to put that to the test too! Jerk Chicken. We ordered both a regular portion ($10) and a kids portion ($6). Each meal came with rice and peas, cabbage slaw, and plantains. The chicken was cooked thoroughly (baked) and then grilled to give it that nice char and keeping it authentic. The regular portion was made with medium spice and the kids portion was made with mild. The medium spice level turned out to be quite mild, but I'm thinking the spice levels are catered to the locals and the regulars, but it was still pretty flavorful. 3.5 stars. Curry Goat. This came with the same sides of rice and peas, cabbage slaw, and plantains ($16). While it was a little pricey, the flavor was quite good. The curry was not overpowering and there was a nice subtle spice to it. 4 stars. Mango-Guava juice ($4.50). Made fresh in-house, the drink was not overly sweet, but sweet enough. I'm a fan! 4 stars. Jamaican Rum Cake ($5.00). This surprised me to be honest, and it definitely reminded me of the same Spiced Rum Cake I had in Jamaica. An incredibly moist and denser cake due to the amount of liquid in it, there was a decent amount of Rum. It wasn't spiced rum like I had in Jamaica, but was still tasty. Notes of raisins were also present, and what I assume to be the local spin on this cake was notes of raspberry. 4-stars. Overall, Yaso was a good experience. I didn't go with the oxtail this time around, but wish I did. The Jerk Chicken was just ok, the flavor was mild, but it was prepared correctly. The Curry Goat fared better and I'd return for that. 4-stars overall. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company! Bon Appétit!

To be honest, I had been wanting to give this place another try because the first time I visited,…read morethe main entrée -- the oxtails -- was extremely salty. I finally made it back today around 8:45 p.m. I knew the restaurant closed at 10 p.m., so I made sure not to come at the last minute. I ordered and paid for my food at 9:06 p.m. My concern is that I was told my order would be ready in about 10-30 minutes, but I did not receive my food until 10:06 p.m. I remained patient and respectful the entire time, but there was no apology for the delay. Then, after getting home, I found the food once again overly salty to the point that it was difficult to enjoy. For the price paid, I expected better quality and customer service. I truly want to support Black-owned businesses, which is why I came back and gave the restaurant another opportunity. However, consistency, professionalism, and consideration for customers should remain the standard for everyone at all times. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, because there is definitely room for improvement in both service and food preparation.

Two stars. If "we…read moregot Jamaican at home" was a restaurant, this would be it. The food was mid and the price was high. I placed my order over the phone before leaving the office and grabbed it on my way home. I ordered one of the specials that the employee told me about because it was the best deal and another entree because I'm greedy. Upon arrival, my food still wasn't ready. So, I had to wait. There was no point in calling ahead if I still had to wait at pickup. The decor is super cute! There's something on every wall. Once I got my food, I asked for my drink. I was told a drink was extra, but when I ordered it on the phone it was included with the "special". This lady told me, "Well, I didn't tell you that. You didn't talk to me. That musta been my momma and she's gone now. She didn't know what she was talking about." And she stood ten toes down and did not want to give me my drink. I was so disappointed in the lack of customer service. Then I got home and my meal didn't blow me away. No smoky grill flavor. The jerk sauce was more like BBQ sauce with Walkerswood mixed in it. I wish them well but have not returned. I say try them out! I hear they are hit-or-miss on the food and service. I pray your order is a hit! But I'm gonna sit this one out - miss me cuz "we got Jamaican at home" ain't worth the effort.

For our meals, we ordered the chicken entree, pork entree and the turkey entree. Each entree came with a number of side items on the plate. I was amazed at how much food and how many items we received for the price we paid. The server was very friendly and attentive although we did have to chase her down for the bill which wasn't really a problem. Plan on having cash to tip because once she ran my card, she said she didn't have a way to add tip to the bill or the credit card slip. There is a lot of parking available in the lot that it shares with the other business in the strip mall that it is located. They have a decent sized dining area, that almost looks like a banquet hall. There is a roped of VIP area, a non-alcoholic bar with seating, a vip room and a stage where they host live music. It looks like it would be a hoping place on weekends. You will also find an ATM here as well as a few televisions around the bar area. There is a patio area in the front of the restaurant, but it was closed and had tables stacked on top of each other when I was there. I decided to dine in, which was kind of awkward. I was never seated. I just found a table after standing there for about 5 minutes. The table was not very stable and rocked throughout my meal. Normally, the server brings a glass of water out to the patrons too, but that was not the case here. I had to even track down the server to take my order. The staff there is friendly enough, but as I have mentioned, they are very hard to communicate with. They offer a limited menu that rotates based on the day of week. This is an authentic restaurant. I mean authentic, authentic. communicating with them was very difficult. They did not understand a word I said and vice versa. Somehow I was able to place my order, even though it took a while. I went with the fried goat, which came with french fries, plantains and slaw. I ended up having to point out the drink I wanted in the cooler behind the bar. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food and it looked delicious. I will be honest though, it was not very good. The plantains tasted like cardboard, the fries were a bit off too. The goat was good, but it and the rest of the food was luke warm at best. It was like it was already prepared and just put on the platter. I ended up throwing my plantains away and I do not like to waste food, but I just could not eat them. I really really had high hopes for this place, but it did not deliver. The food just did not do it for me. The communication issue affected the service and the prices were a bit steep. my meal and drink ran me about $25. I hope that my visit was an off day for the restaurant, but I will probably not be coming back anytime soon.
