Conveniently located near King's Cross Station, Indian Lounge was the perfect midday pick-me-up. I had their lunch special--samosas, curry chicken, and pilaf rice (pelau)--and it was flavorful, satisfying, and not overwhelming in portion or spice. The seasoning was spot-on, especially for my Caribbean taste buds. I noticed that many diners seemed to prefer milder dishes, and it's clear the restaurant caters thoughtfully to its customer base. The spice level is balanced and accessible--but if you want more heat, you can always add it. As any good cook knows, spice can be layered in, but once it's overdone, there's no turning back. Service was outstanding, the place was sparkling clean (even the bathrooms), and the gentle Indian music created a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Lunch came with ice cream, but I was so full and happy I couldn't even touch it..at first...lol. I'll absolutely be back--next time for dinner! read more

Have you ever had Italian food at an Indian restaurant?? We had just gotten out of Kings Cross station and were starving. We were planning to go to Dishoom but came across this Indian Lounge restaurant right outside the station & decided to check it out. We ordered North Indian dishes: Paneer Tikka Masala (I'm not sure what this was but it was NOT Paneer Tikka Masala. I felt like I was dipping my naan into tomato sauce with some paneer in it. You should not be able to taste the tomato's, they were undercooked. And truthfully there was no trace of any ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander etc. where are the Indian spices?! Instead, there was sugar?) Tharka Daal (Daal was decent however I was under the impression this was black Daal not yellow Daal as that's how Tharka Daal is labeled in the states) Tandoori chicken ( decent, somewhat dry & served with a tamarind sauce however it said it comes with a yogurt sauce) Garlic Naan ( the Naan was probably the best thing on the menu, fluffy and chewy on the inside and perfectly cooked on the outside, however not much garlic flavor ) Rice (tasted fine but was broken pieces. Maybe overcooked. The art of basmati rice is for each whole grain to be separate where you can taste each grain individually. It's a texture thing) In my opinion, the food was not reflective of the prices, however; I am not a London local. Customer service was friendly. However they kept pushing us to write a review on Google a couple times during our meal & even interrupted our conversation... I had dined with a non-Indian friend here & now feel like I need to make up for this elsewhere - as our Naan & Paneer Tikka Masala tasted more like bread & marinara sauce. I've never felt less confident about a rating in my life than the one that I'm handing out today. The Indian Lounge makes me feel so many different ways with how my experience went - it is almost unbelievable. The day of my reservation comes, and that's when all of the funny business starts. We were greeted by the manager when we walked in, who seemed friendly, and quickly brought to our seats. General service was a bit sus - some confusion with the orders and a kitchen staff member smoking too close to us The food was good too! I wish my lamb skewer came with more than just rice, but it was well-seasoned and quite good. The naan was also fantastic. The high (?) light was a few minutes after we left. My buddies and I were standing outside the the restaurant discussing what to do next when the manager came up to my group and began to ask us how the food was and how we were - nothing too crazy. But then he just called me beautiful and later touched my arm and commented on how strong I was. He also called one of my friends "cheeky". It took me two business days to fully process what had happened to me, but shoutout this guy for shooting his shot. read more

Had lunch at Indian Lounge a few days ago...and overall it was just okay. The good: service is so friendly and food came out quickly. They are very generous in terms of quantity. The not-so-good: we had the veggie biryani (good), the aloo gobi (okay), the bombay aloo (exactly the same as the aloo gobi without the gobi), a naan, and mango chicken. The chicken quality was a bit suspect but at least it was all white meat. Maybe we went on an off day but overall Indian Lounge missed the mark for us. read more

Came here on a friend's recommendation on a weekend evening. Got the papadam for a starter and got the paneer jalfrezi for my main. The paneer was in long pieces which I've never seen before, but the flavor was good. Naan was thick and fluffy, chewy too. Very tasty! Space inside felt a little cramped and the tables are a bit close together, not much space to walk either. After dinner, they give a free shot of alcohol and a chocolate (I don't know what the alcohol is since I don't drink). Price is fair, also centrally located right next to the main train station. read more

At lunchtime they have a 3 course fixed price menu. Small portions in each course. The desert course was a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I had the chicken tikka appetizer, then the vegetables curry with nan. All very good small portions. With a drink and service charge it was just under 12 pounds. One of my recent traveling joys has been finding exceptional Indian food whereever I travel; it's one of my favorite cuisines and it's always a treat to have it. Seeing as my fiancee and I were in London, we knew we had to find a nice place that served great Indian food (it was a bonus that it was near our hotel). After reviewing online, we decided to stop in here and we were so very glad we did. The service was quite good and our waiter was very, very attentive. We ordered cheese naan (yes, cheese naan!), butter chicken, chicken biryani, and a few drinks and we couldn't have been more satisfied. The cheese naan was really, really good (almost as good as garlic naan) and our two entrees were absolutely fantastic (lick the spoon good). Our drinks were tasty as well and the whole meal was just spot on. As we asked for our check, we received a bonus that really put this place into the extra tier - amaretto shots! They were completely unexpected and were a wondeful touch. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who will be around this part of London (it's really close to King's Cross) and we will definitely come back if we're ever in the area again! read more

Notably, my server pressured me to navigate to this page while I was still sitting in the restaurant and tried to convince me to rate it 5 stars while I was there - and while he was looking on. While he didn't offer me anything to do so, he did give me a sob story about it being a family establishment and needing 5 star reviews to compete. Never felt so uncomfortable... I told him I would review the restaurant later and walked out. They seated me at the front of the restaurant and then stood right next to my table - calling to people who walked by the restaurant, trying to get them to come in and eat. This was terribly distracting. If you're going to do this, stand outside, not inside, and don't seat people right next to the door. So unprofessional. My food was reasonably good, though everything is extra - rice and naan, and my bottle of water was 5 pounds. Somehow I ended up paying nearly 30 pounds for what should have been a reasonably inexpensive dinner. Complete scam, the service was poor - and rude at times, and then I was pressured to leave a great review. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. read more

While staying in London for a few weeks this summer I actually went to the Indian Lounge twice! The atmosphere was mostly white and chic. The room long and narrow, and I went with a large group the first night. I was worried about fitting into the space but they accommodated us effortlessly. The chicken tikka masala was the best I've ever had. Such a rich deep flavor, unlike some places in old Blighty that basically serve you chicken in tomato sauce. The naan is religiously good...I always wonder how it can get better but the naan here has a nice char on the edges. Not burned but ever so slightly smoky. The restaurant is very close to kings cross station so it's convenient for meeting friends. Overall a delicious experience and a great price! read more

Like India!?! Right Daddy? ---- FAIL The service was OK. Friendly. No complaints. Although I know they were being friendly to up sale me. I watched. Same song and dance to everyone. The food... Was Awful. London has the best Indian food in the world. Maybe better than India. But this place is horrible. The "Mixed Appetizer" the friendly little middle eastern man sold everyone was un eatable. The Nan Bread was thick, heavy and no crispness at all. Floppy and bland. If you can't make Nan... I'm going to have to agree with some of the other reviews.. This place is way to pricey for average Indian food. We tried the veggie samosas, chicken briyani, veggie paneer and two garlic naans with a coke and water and walked away paying 42 pounds. I will give them that the chicken briyani was really tasty but aside from that the samosas were just ok as was the paneer. Would I go again if I was in the area, probably not. Glad I tried it but I'm confident there is a lot better for a much reasonable price. read more

We walked in on a cold wet day and greeted with an overly friendly staff. We sat quickly. They were busy and seemed short staffed but in general service was a 3+. Ordered a variety of food. The butter chicken had wonderfully tender chicken and the spices were perfect. It wasn't as creamy as I've had before but the flavor was good. Naan seemed a bit small and somewhat over cooked. Our experience can be summed up in two lines, if there was free food here, we wouldn't go and eat again! Chicken biryani was more like pulao (rice pilaf) and a curry dish on 24th side, without any raita (yogurt/curd) which is usually a part if it and had no taste of biryani whatsoever! Ordered Chicken pasanda, which was sweet, again missed the flavours! If you want to try Indian food in St.Pancras/King Cross area, try some other restaurant! I have had a lot of Indian food and this is some of the worst Indian food I have ever had. The samosa was hard and small, almost like it had been reheated. The chicken tikka masala was a bright red and tasted like ketchup. I couldn't taste any of the regular Indian spices you typically get. I can honestly say this is the worst Indian food I have ever had. Ever. The food came out ice cold, asked for it to be taken back, assumed a fresh portion would come out but it was brought back to the table within minutes after being heated up in the microwave. Even after that it was still cold. I didn't touch the chicken for fear of getting food poisoning. The waiters didn't give a damn about the cold food or the lack of service. Ate the naan bread (also cold) but that's it. No proper tandoori oven, so no fresh chargrilled bread or meats here. On the way down to the bathroom I poked my head into the kitchen and could see that food was just being thrown into the microwave. I'd honestly rather hit up the McDonald's across the road. For 4 people, with a main each, 1.5 beers each, 4 sides and poppadoms it came to £30 each. Rip off. Service was added to the bill but they denied it and wouldn't remove it. The whole bill was written in a scribble so we wouldn't understand it. As I was with colleagues I didn't want to cause and scene and challenge it too much but i should have. Agree with some of the reviews about the waiter - completely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable with lewd comments and behaviour. read more

Had a wonderful Indian meal here today after walking for hours around London with my visiting parents. My chicken tikka was excellent, and my (American) parents commented that "Now we understand what people mean when they say the U.K. has great Indian food." 3.5 stars. I liked this place, but I didn't love it. If you're in the area, I think it's worth going to. But it's not worth a trip out to eat here. The ambiance is nice enough - it's a bit too bright, but otherwise it's tastefully decorated. White table cloths and it's a modern feel. They also have seating downstairs, but I much prefer the upstairs. The downstairs is also loud because there is this huge waterfall wall, which would get irritating for me. On a Saturday night around 8 pm most tables were full, but you definitely did not need a reservation. They tried to seat us downstairs, but we wanted the upstairs and they were very nice about it and accommodated our request. We ordered the chicken jalfrezi and the chicken dopiaza. The chicken jalfrezi was really great - unique flavour - but it was SO oily. It was served on a rectangular flat plate and they entire bottom was a huge vat of orange colored oil. I had to have them drain it completely and this made it better. The flavour was great though, but the oil is exaggerated. The chicken dopiaza I wasn't crazy about. It came with chunks of red and green bell peppers as well as lots of onions (as the name indicates), but I didn't think it was all that flavorful. It tasted much like a tomato sauce. We ordered boiled rice, which was standard, and a mango lassi, which really could've been better. It seemed sweeter than most and it came with colored coconut flakes on top. Good meal, however, on offering my Amex to settle the bill the waiter offers a discount for cash & on that offer being declined, waiter claims the machine is out of order (ever heard that before?). This leaves me scrambling for enough cash to pay. My complaint that, if this was true & since they advertise Amex on the door, they should disclose this at the outset - not on presentation of the bill. Much better Indian food is to be found nearby! The food was nothing spectacular and the prices were quite high for the quality and portion sizes. The Chicken Tikka Masala tasted heavily of tomato paste, the Saag Paneer tasted like it was made from frozen spinach that had not been drained (this was June in London, so I know fresh spinach was available.). The staff was polite enough to us, but a bit rude to those in the queue waiting for take out. We were seated near the bar facing the queue. It felt like a stare-down. Indian Lounge is located across from the rail station and gets loads of foot traffic to which the restaurant owes most of its business. I will probably not eat here again due to the proximity of other good restaurants. If I was with a group that had decided to go here, I would still tag along as the food is passable. read more

A REAL GEM! I went to Indian Lounge on a Tuesday evening with a friend, thinking it would be nice and quiet. To our surprise, the restaurant was packed and the ambience was great. There was chatter and laughter from every table; one could get away thinking it was a Friday night. The food was absolutely divine, cooked to perfection. The service isn't slow but one needs to remember that this is an Indian restaurant and not a fast food chain, in other words, good food takes some time. If we could give zero stars, we would. The service was good initially but after they took our order, it took over an hour and 15 minutes for the food to arrive after ordering. They kept avoiding eye contact and did not tell us the reason prior to ordering. When it did arrive, it was the wrong food and then they just took it off our table and gave it to the nearby table.
