Cash only place, good spot for a quick bite, nothing incredible, very cheap. €5 will get you a small take-away dish (just over a cup of curry) with rice or roti. We opted for roti, which were made fresh to order. I had mattar paneer which was a bit watery. Butter chicken was better, not very rich/buttery but still a good flavour. Took 2 ladoo as well (boondi style) which were fresh and not too sweet. The fella working when we visited was very pleasant. Will return, the channa curry looks good. Would recommend for sure. Wanted a break from all the carbs and I was not disappointed! Great option for vegetarian food. A HUGE plate of food that is all veg (some vegan too I think) is 10€ while the meat option was 12€ i believe. You can also choose just one item with rice and it's around 6€ but I went all out with a big plate and I am stuffed. I'm no expert on Indian food but from the Indian I've have before this seems pretty decent for 10€. Went with a friend and at the end I paid up with "the boss" and he gave us a deal for no reason so thanks boss!! The plate also came with a medium size piece of naan bread ! So much food. If you say the words "I found an Indian restaurant near our hotel," you will find me grabbing my purse and shouting, "quick, there's no time to waste, let's goooo!" So it was that I found myself 30 euro poorer, stuffing palak paneer, rice, naan, lassi, chana masala, vegetable curry, samosas, pakora, and a couple sweets in my gob on a recent evening in Rome. I think my husband ordered something for himself, too. The food was good enough to make the 30 minute round trip walk again a few days later for the lunch special where I watched Indian music videos while gobbling up more of the same, happy as can be. We're from LA but living in Rome for a few months. We were impressed with the veggie plates. The nan wasn't amazing but that's my only criticism. Standard overly bright lighting and questionable decor apply but we're from LA and used to finding our gem restaurants in shopping malls. Go here and you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is awesome for those who could use a little break from Italian food while on a visit! (Not that Italian food wasn't absolutely delicious, but sometimes you just need some variety!) We stopped over here for lunch on Christmas day (not much else open, and could really use some rice and curry!), and I was all smiles. The negative reviews for the food here might potentially be from people who are only familiar with other kinds of Indian food--trust me, there are several. Food here was pretty legit to me! Not that it was the best stuff I've ever had, but hell, who can beat family home-cooking? (Nobody can best the Dida. NOBODY.) We liked it here so much, we headed over for a second meal on a different day. The price is extremely encouraging, as is the display case piled high enough with sweets to make a meal on their own! We're not talking fancy stuff here, venue- or taste-wise. But who cares? Comfort food is comfort food. Plus, the staff here are really chill. i dunno if i was particularly hungry or if i had too much pasta and pizza lately, but this place is GOOD. we were in the area, and of course the husband always wants indian food, so i navigated our way here. there is no decor to speak of, but right away, we felt like we were somewhere legit. we shared a plate of veg biryani, mixed veg curry, and channa. even tho we got rice, we couldn't refuse the fresh roti. we also got a mango lassi, and the husband got a samosa. the roti was so fresh and piping hot (made to order!). the rice was a welcome respite from all the pasta and bread we've been eating. the spices were also just right. husband also got an indian sweet to complete his meal, and they have lots to choose from. this was a great indo meal, even by CA standards! read more

This place if formally named Janta on other review sites but the sign out front is Indian fast food. This is punjabi style Food. As confirmed by the Punjabi speaking workers and the Punjabi Music videos boppin in the background. After 26 days of vacation my hubby and I needed something familiar to chase away feelings of homesickness and to buffer all the pizza and pasta the last few days. Being Indian we opted for Indian food cautiously. We saw quite a bit of indian workers mostly the vendors trying to sell you a selfie stick in every plaza. So we figured there must be an authentic place where they go to chow down. After many a google search and review we chose Janta. We agree it is no frills but decent food and hit the spot for two weary travelers longing for some spicy food. It is definitely cheaper then back in the states one dish will set you back 15-18 dollars. Each dish is 5-7 euros rather than a buffet style. So if you want curry chicken and biryani - it two separate items so be careful when choosing, its tempting to start pointing to everything hoping for just a taste. I chose palak panner and biryani, hubby picked chick peas, chiken curry and biryani. I asked foe garlic naan which is made fresh to order and is good but on the smaller side. Had I thought about it I would have skipped biryani and just had the naan. We did not get drinks just had some tap water at the table. No idea if it safe to drink in Italy but I figured they would not serve it if it was not. We each chose a starter of samosa and veg pakora which were good. Unlimited mint chutney and tamarind on the table. Overall a good meal. Came out to $22 euros which is a deal For decent indian food outside of India itself. THey do not take credit card, cash only. This is my only gripe as I Hate to carry around cash in general and more so in a sketchy neighborhood. This restaurant is a few blocks away from Termini station. We were visiting Rome from the US and we were so surprised that this place was SO good! We were frantically trying to find a place to eat late at night near Termini and this was definitely a lifesaver late at night when not a whole lot is open in this area. Hole in the wall kind of a place. It's a quick serve, fast food with limited selection based on everything that is pre-cooked. Food was only average and dripping in grease. As an Indian, I know what good Indian curries and bread taste like and this was just ok. Further, the bill was very high - 40 euros 2 curries and rice ! More expensive than proper sit down restaurants in Rome . When questioned about the bill, the manager was gruff and very hard to understand. Do not recommend this place for more reasons than one - there are much better Indian restaurants elsewhere in Rome. read more

I think this place is also called "Indian Kabir Fast Food". Good tasting indian food, but not as spicy as the Indian food in the States. Cheap for Roma: 6 euros a person for vegetarian lunch + nan bread (with ghee!) We had dal and chana palak (chick peas with spinach). They also had chicken, lamb, mushroom and a few other dishes, ready and waiting-- this is how the food is so fast. Also have a large Indian dessert case if you are interested in desserts. The way they served the food was a little odd; large plastic tray filled with lots of white basmati rice and just a bit of curry-- but good enough for a quick meal or lunch. I wish you could order family style with a larger bowl of curry. Unless you mind eating out of cafeteria style plastic tray/plates, and/or you dislike great food, there's no excuse for missing this place. The curries are always awesome (and they seem to switch them up a bit), the fried snacks are dope, the people are all business and efficiency (and they speak English if you're struggling with making orders in Italian). For vegetarians it is also refreshing because out of their 6 or 8 curry options, the majority are always vegetarian. They have pretty mild stuff if you're looking for that but also definitely cater to those of spicier tastes. The atmosphere definitely doesn't scream "bring your work colleagues here" but the dive/hole-in-the walk feeling is there in a really great way, and benefits from the excellent music videos they've usually got on the TV. read more

Here's where I am giving them only one star: 1. Slow Service - apparently one of the cooks is the order taker 2. Their Dosas don't come with the standard potato onion mix found in Dosas all over the world including India. 3. Their Dosas don't come with Sambar, a soup that is once again served with Dosas all over the world including India. 4. They don't use ginger or garlic in the food. The cook said it was "Jain" food, I'm not Jain so I'd rather eat the ginger & garlic in my food and enjoy it's distinct taste ubiquitous in Indian culinary cuisine. He could have said, we serve plane food (no pun intended). 5. Seating is only bar stools, nothing to accommodate the elderly or physically challenged. There are other items on the menu, but we strictly went there because they advertised "Dosas". On the bright side, they do have a bottle beverage cooler with a wide assortment of non-Coca-Cola products. Once again, Yelp reviews are totally skewed by fledglings that aren't adept in discerning good food. This place is fairly close the train station. I was sitting in my hotel room and yelped restaurants and it can up. I walked a block and sat for a bite. The guy behind the counter came over and asked me if I wanted a explanation and I said yes. He walked up and down the counter explaining everything to me and help me put together a plate. Not the best Indian food I have had. It doesn't live up to the great reviews. I was charged two more Euros than I thought I owed. They seemed irritated that I was asking and weren't clear with their answers and I couldn't get a detailed bill. Had dinner here today evening with my wife maybe an hour back. Non veg thali was decent fare for a Indian metro city janta mess/thali but definitely not worth the price tag of 12 Euro per thali (30 Euros for dinner for 2, if you include dessert, which there is definitely a proper assortment of), and they do not charge for water, though the hygiene of the water and the place is very questionable by European standards. We went there looking at reviews on this site and it seems misleading as we thought a meal for two may be around 15 Euros based on some reviews. We've had dinner in Paris around the La Chapelle area for 15-20 Euros for 2. To top it all they only accept cash and this was definitely disappointing for me as i'd hoped to pay via card (taking out cash in an ATM in Europe meaning paying 10-20% Exchange rate premium, and paying with an European/International card certainly saves much and helps keep a track of expenses). You're better off going to a proper expensive Indian/Italian place where it'd cost 35-40 Euros for a dinner for 2. What ticked me off was if i'm paying anywhere upwards of 15 Euros anywhere I'd expect to pay by card, and trying to explain this to a blank wall (standard delhi type response was....bhai sorry bol dia aour kitne baar bolna hai seemed too aggressive for a European city). Very smartly they don't have the menu and price posted anywhere, and don't want to provide an itemized bill for some reason. I had to specifically ask for it. Avoid unless you're totally cheesed out eating Italian and paninis all day long and have exhausted your quota for carbonara and are desperately hunting for Indian food somewhere to get back your taste buds. read more
