As someone who visits McDonald's frequently, this particular location is one of my favorites. We randomly stumbled into here for a quick bite without realizing it is the viral fancy McDonald's. First you walk through a hallway of Roman statues and plaques, which take you into a spacious dining hall. They have a full bakery section and plenty of seating. I got to try a few Italy speciality items like the Spinach & Parmigiano Croquettes (3 for €2.69) and Tiramisu (€2.90). When in Europe, you can always order a beer at McDonald's too, which is a treat for adults. I was in town for the Rome Marathon. As a fan of international McDonald's where the quality of the food is almost always better than in the States, I just had to make a stop here at the first McDonald's location in Italy. Unfortunately, when I first came here on Friday, it was closed for a special event. Thankfully, they were open to the public when I returned the following day. If you had to go to only one McDonald's in Rome, you definitely need to come to this location! Just like any McDonald's in Rome, they're all very easy to find as they had signs throughout the city directing you to the closest one. This place is just south of the Spagna Metro station, very close to the Spanish Steps and embassy. The design of this location was very unique. It was very modern with a little bit of ancient Rome. Ordering was very easy while using one of the kiosks. It was very spacious with plenty of seating. The service was quick, the food was good, and the dining area was kept clean. read more

⁣⁣Hello to Rome's First McDonald's! This McDonald's was built 38 years ago. Like everything else in Rome; there's quite a history to this place as well. It was built in Italy amid protests via the Slow Food Movement group. A Italian journalist actually protested with bowls of penne pasta that they gave out to folks passing by and they had slogan, "We don't want fast food. We want slow food!" Here we are in 2024 and this McDonald's still stands. This definitely is not your typical McDonald's. Aside from a unique background; this spot is slightly an upgrade to to other McDonald's. There's marble walls, stairs and Italian statues. It is two stories and is said can hold 800 people inside! I am always intrigued by the different offerings McDonald has around the world and this one did not disappoint. They serve croissants and cappuccino. I tried their Pistachio Croissant and paired with Cappucino. Deliziosa! Price wise it was fairly cheap too and ran a croissant and cappuccino was under 4 euros. Location wise; this is near the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna. The location is very convenient. This is the firs and oldest McDonald's in Rome/Italy. I had to stop by to see what all the fuss was. Well, the ambiance was very different than in the states. It is more upscale and designed completely different than the small location in the US. Very beautiful. The food choices were different. They had the typical burgers and fries, but also had chicken wings, gelato, and tons of sweets/pastries. Even a coffee bar section. It's been a while since I've had MDs in the states, but the taste seems slightly different with everything I tried. There is no real service as I am assuming with other locations. Always have to try McDonald's in other countries. I believe this was the first McDonald's in Rome. It's really big with a coffee/pastry bar on the bottom level. Regular food order/pick up is upstairs. Probably one of the busiest McDonald's I've ever seen. They have items that the US doesn't. As an American, I think it's fun to go to McDonald's in other counties and compare what they have! I've only been to a few countries but Rome has had one of the best McDonald's so far! They have great McFlurrys (that don't have a broken ice cream machine) and their food tasted a lot fresher than the ones back home. Plus this location had a ton of seating and was just a couple blocks from the Spanish steps and all kinds of shopping areas that are fun to walk around and window shop. This is a very nice McDonald's I visited a few months ago in Rome, Italy. I think it is better than most McDonald's in California. The dining room is so beautiful, and the inside layout is almost like a good Italian restaurant. I enjoyed my burger, French fries, and Coke in there. I'm sure it tasted better because of the beautiful dining room. They have self-service kiosks there, but most customers still like to place orders from the cashiers. The restrooms are for customers. This McDonald's is a mad house. At a low season, the amount of people was insane. First of all, if you are with a stroller or wheelchair, you cannot even get into this place. There is no ramp, only steps to get in. It will take you so long to get in, now they have also kiosks to order your food, with the amount of people in there, you may not get your food less than 30 mins. It is extremely filthy, do not even bother to use their bathrooms, no ventilation, no air circulation in there, so think what you might face with. Food is below average, only eat , if there is nothing around. The only place here i must say looked decent was their coffee shop and pastry section at the entrance. read more

Decided to give McDonald's in Europe a second shot, as some people I know have raved about it. This one was much better than the one I tried in Paris for sure. First, it's probably the largest McDonald's I've ever been to. This sucker is huge! Multiple floors, multiple sections, and over a hundred customers. It's massive. Just like the one in Paris you can order from a machine and you pick it up at the counter. The age of man is over, the age of the machine has begun. The food is pretty much the same. The Big Mac tastes like the Big Mac. The chicken nuggets taste like chicken nuggets. They do have curly fries and chicken wings though! Overall, a pretty decent experience. Oh, and they serve beer. Usually I never step foot in a McDonalds in the USA because I don't care for the fast food items. But not so in Rome! This McDonalds has way different items than the US restaurants. First when you enter, they have only a coffee and pastry / snacks counter where you can get very good Italian coffee, cafe latte, and espresso which are all strong on my American palate. To the shock of the McDonalds person I ordered from, I asked for half Italian coffee with half hot water and it made it taste more like what I am used to. They have an excellent burger menu which I tried a chicken sandwich and enjoyed it. Did not expect McDonalds to have such awesome chicken sandwiches! Bathrooms were clean and tidy but difficult to find as they and other European countries do not place enough signage to direct people... The best part is that they carry similar pastry goods like a Starbucks but also the infamous macaroons. The macaroons from McDonalds were the best I have ever had! They had 4 flavors of macaroons but the quality was higher than any other place I had tried. Plus the price hard to pass at .85 Euro apiece! We were site seeing around the area and in need of a restroom. Dropped by this McD's and to our surprise we found out that they have a nice McCafe area, filled with delicious baked goods, drinks, and gelato. The restrooms at this location weren't the cleanest and most of the doors barely locked but it got the job done. It's quite difficult to find a restroom around Rome, unless you're dinning in at a restaurant. There is plenty of seating at this location and though their restrooms weren't the cleanest, the seating area is quite clean and modern. Employees are friendly. Menu items are the same as the U.S. for the most part, with a couple of different items added to it. Their McCafe is quite awesome and decently priced. read more

And after spending 3-4 euro for a coffee and pastry at various independent Roman breakfast "bars", it was a relief being able to get an expresso and pastry for 1.80 euro, and it was just as good! Or splurge for 2.20 euro combo with a pastry and cappuccino. And they don't charge you an extra 30-40% to sit down, as all the independents do. read more

Am I the only one who thinks that when you're traveling overseas, you have to stop at McDonald's at least once to see what its offerings are like? I know at least my wife is onside with me on this. We were on our way to the Spanish Steps when felt peckish and wanted a cheap, cold drink. We had been seeing a lot more signs directing people to McDonald's locations than actual McDonald's at this point as well, so it was interesting to actually find one. The menu was of course very similar to the American/Canadian one, with a few additions like fish and chips, McLobster, Italian-ish salads, brioche turnovers and what we bought: spinach and parm croquettes. Three came in each order, and they were surprisingly tasty, given the price an location, as the filling was creamy and flavourful. This location was much bigger than you would expect from the street entrance which lead to this basement location, which just seemed to expand and expand. Cool air conditioning, free wifi and cheap mediocre eats, it's what you expect and what you get. read more

Mcdonald's stores millions of people a day over 100 countries, and Italy is no different. This Mcdonald's store in Italy, looks like a nice one but it is when you step inside, you just want to hide. When you enter, it starts into a Mccafe, mainly dedicated to the Mcdonalds Cafe drink/coffee range and some pastries, and you have to go down a few stairs to get to the main restaurant, hence is poorly wheelchair accessible, they is a way for wheelchair access but this involves : travelling down many back streets, using the freezer entrance and feeling like a hassle, and like they are taking part in something fishy, rather than a guest of a massive chain. When I finally got in the store, I tried to use the machine to order my food fast, to avoid big queues, however it was slightly difficult, (yet possible) to change the language to english, and then find dietary requirements notes, It said they had them but it just didn't work, and I had to go to the till The server was very slow, and it must have taken half an hour queuing to get service, which really isn't fast food, the guy who served me seemed nice enough but still was puzzled I wanted a burger with no bun. I would of wanted something else but after getting my friend to queue in another line for the machine checkout, what took about 2 minutes, they couldn't provide anything either, despite it being EU law and mentioning about it on machines. The food here, like the store was very poor, my burger meal must of been about 7.3 euros and it was awful, the presentation was poor, and it was just slopped on a plate, it was either put in a horrible, white sauce I guess was mayo or just simply dry, so it wasn't nice throughout, and all the toppings came off like a sandwich. My fries was not much better ; they were over seasoned. The staff made sure I got in okay, but when I wanted to leave, no one tried to help me out, as I had to go through the staff freezer exit on my own, after trying to get through other "emergency exits" To conclude, this store may look nice and like a posh Mcdonald's but at the end of the day, it is the same old menu, perhaps even worse than the UK as they don't sell cheeseburgers, the waiting time is dreadful and can leave you feel drained, just as you wait for a simple burger which should take minutes, the food is very poor and inedible in parts, it is a little pricy and noisy too. It really isn't a nice place and is definitely one of the more deserving places for my "Avoid at all costs" list read more

This is not your typical American McDonald's in Rome. This is a very nice and ornate restaurant (minus the very dirty bathrooms!!). I would suggest that you stay out of the restroom here and just grab food. Don't forget to try the McToast! and anything in the McCafe case too! They have gelato in many flavors. There's lots of delicious espresso drinks to choose from also. This is good stop for you to build up a sugar and caffeine buzz for sight seeing. I had a chicken wrap sandwich that was really tasty. I went with breaded chicken and that crunch was really good. The tiramisu was pretty amazing for fast food. The restrooms get 0 stars and the food/drinks get 4 stars. read more

I know it is kind of tacky to go to McDonalds while you are vacationing in Rome. You come there and you hear English spoken by a bunch of customers. You start to think that you should be venturing out and exploring the local cuisine unlike those people. But McDonalds in Rome has very good McCafe which i like and which is by far superior to McCafe in the US. It is also cheap compared to the local businesses and the quality of McCafe drinks and pastries is very good. So why pay 3 euros for a cup of coffee if you can get it for 1 euro at McCafe?! Pastries were very good, and the hot chocolate was great. On weekends and holidays this McDonalds gets insanely crowded. I would not even bother to go there during lunchtime because you probably would not even be able to find a place to sit. read more

We stopped in for a quick espresso - very inexpensive (maybe 1 euro), very good and the restaurant was very clean. It had 2 levels and the lower level had a fun soccer video game that my son really enjoyed. It was much nicer than the locations in the US. The McCafe had delicious looking pastries, etc.. I wasn't expecting this but it was the best crema cafe I had in all of Italy! I love hazelnut flavored anything and the nocciola crema cafe is seriously amazing!! It's like semi melted coffee soft serve. We also got the hot cheese fries and they were decent, needed more cheese sauce though.
