My wife and I try indian restaurants on every trip. I would say that this restaurant definitely lived up to the hype from previous reviews. We got the chicken madras and the garlic chicken. We asked the madras chicken to be made extra spicy and it was! The garlic chicken was a nice fusion-style dish. Very unique. The jeera naan was also delicious. Their house wine was actually really good and inexpensive. Would definitely consider going back if we are in Rome again. read more

Howey, from the time we entered the restaurant, we felt welcomed. The staff was very nice and at first offered a glass of champagne. We ordered a paneer dish, onion paratha and veg. Biryani. After eating Italian food for about a week we decided we needed something else. So we found this Indian Resturant only a few blocks away from our hotel. We went with 1 of there set menus plus an extra ghost lamb. I think this is the best Indian food I've ever had period. This Indian restaurant had come as a recommendation from a friend who had eaten here before apparently. He said it was just like the real deal back in the UK. So we took the family there for dinner... what a huge disappointment. The interior is alright and looks to be clean and the staff were good. However, the food was an absolute let down. I ordered a peshwari naan, rice and chicken madras. It was the flattest naan I've ever seen in my life! There is no way this had been done in a proper clay oven. It was not stuffed with the filling like they normally are. It had the "filling" sprinkled on top. It was half the size of every naan bread I've ever ordered and hard to chew. The chicken in the madras was cooked well, however, it just tasted like curry powder. There was no real flavour and lacked depth. The rest of the family weren't overly excited by their food either. Biggest disappointment of eating a meal in Rome ever. We most certainly won't be going back there and in future I won't be listening to said friend for restaurant recommendations! read more

Absolutely amazing Indian food right in the center of Rome, close to the Colosseum and other attractions. My kids loved it too! We had the chicken tikka masala, samosas, gin and tonics, red wine and some of the veggie curries, and everything was super delicious. Refined spicing, not just plain heat, very rich, perfectly cooked. The service was great. Sometimes you can get bored with the same pasta and pizza everyday and you carave something different , yesterday was that day, so I looked up my options for Indian since I really like currys, and this place popped up. We made the trip and realized we had walked past it many times without acknowledgeing it because it doesn't look like a a lot, if you know what I mean, but once you go inside its like you get slapped in the face by a dancing troop of Bollywood dancers! The place is decorated from top to bottom in a really nice Indian theme and the smells are mouth watering. They took us to the floor bellow which I thought would be deserted, but to my surprise was packed. We were offered some prosecco and some crunchy type thing with four different sauces, then I had the chicken tikka and the cumin rice , both good, but the reason I'm giving this place just four stars is the tiny portion sizes and imho the sauce of my curry could have been tastier. But apart from that, give it a try, awesome service and good food!. Pro tip- if you are very hungry get two dishes or ask for many to share with everyone since they are not very large. read more

Well, this was a surprise. When in Rome....eat unreal Indian food. Seriously! Fine cuisine. Funny story. Had just arrived a couple of hours earlier, and after checking in to our hotel, my wife and I decided to walk around a bit, and randomly, and unguided, see some sights. On the way, we passed 3 Indian restaurants, Maharajah being the 2nd of the 3. We were shocked because in in both Venice and Florence there were none. After taking in many sites, and not really wanting local foods again, looked up the reviews on this place. Many very good ones, a few not so good. That's ok. Onwards to Maharajah. Walked in to the smallish looking place that was 90 percent empty, and the maitre d asked us if we had a reservation! I thought the guy was pulling my leg. After studying his book, he sat us 2 minutes later. I joked to my wife about the rediculous nature of being seated. Minutes after odering, though, the joke was over. In came boatloads of folks, mostly Indians, and completely filled the upstairs, and the discovered lower level! We were quickly placed with wonderful busboy who gave us papadum with 3 different chutneys. Awesome. Had a gigantic King Fisher lager beer. Our order was a prix fix consisting of the best Tandoori Chicken, Dal, Chicken Rogen Josh, Basmati Rice (choice of a bunch of them!), Palak Aaloo and Nan for 22 Euro...enough to feed both of us. Heavenly tastes. However, we also added on the most delicious Lamb Pasanda with choice of Basmati (10 Euro). Epic. Outstanding. Service was top notch. So came to rome with family; parents after a few days of Italian, wanted indian food. Went online to find a place. This restaraunt had good reviewes, including from Katie Perla (who's blog includes posts/pictures on eater38!). Anyways, food was good, definitely different taste then indian restaraunts in USA, but still good. We had the tandoori chicken, chana masala, and paneer thika; would order all it again. Only complaint is we were asked to sit downstairs, when they clearly had a table upstairs. Ambience downstairs is definitely more casual, less trendy, and overall less desired. All the people downstairs were Indian, while all the upstairs peole were Caucasian. We then asked to sit upstairs, and got a table 15min later. We'd been eating French and Italian food for a week, so we decided to throw in an Indian meal to balance the tastes out. This restaurant was a pleasant discovery very close to the Colosseum. The ambience is neat, seats were easy to find, and service was prompt. The staff were very helpful and explained the spice levels clearly. We had the Chicken Musalam and the Chicken Pulao. We were tired of having Italian for almost one whole week, so decided to have Indian food. Me and my husband love briyani and we ordered a lamb briyani along with some chicken curry and starters. Was easy to get a table here when everything else around it was fairly busy. Excellent service. Complimentary app/cracker with condiments, as well as a glass of proceso when you sat down. Honestly i am not sure about the authenticity of other reviews. We were in rome and yelped for indian restaurants nearby and made the wrong decision of ordering take out from here. The chicken was stale and tasted really bad. All other curries were drenched in oil and we felt terrible after eating the food. I recommend this to no one and being originally from india, i feel sad to whats being labeled as indian food. Should have given the money to a homeless instead !! read more
