We are In Rome and decided to stop in here to change it up from all the Italian food. The atmosphere and the waiters were nice but the food was just OK. Some things were good and others OK. I got a sort of chicken skewer appetizer and it was juicy but the chicken was slightly over cooked because it was just slightly chewy. Then I had chicken tikka masala, but it was not orange in color! And it did not have that distinct Tikka taste! Butter Nan was very good. My girlfriend had a veggie dish she liked and we shared a basmati rice with veggies which was very good. Nothing was very spicy, but maybe because we are in Italy where Italians don't like very spicy food! I should have asked for it to be more spicy! Not a bad meal, but not great either! We went to this Indian restaurant after several days in Rome. We were tired of eating the same pasta, pizza, and panini sandwiches dishes. The restaurant was located downstairs near an hotel. After a long tiring day in Rome we found this Gem. It was hidden between buildings but a treasure .. we ordered Chole and Bhature , Cheese naan, Tandoori Chicken, Daal Makhni, Kadai Chicken, Cheese Naan, Garlic Naan and plain roti ... all of it was great authentic food... I am a sucker for Chole Bhature and not easily pleased when it comes to Bhature.. it was a great experience for me and bhature were near authentic..Kadai chicken was tummy and daal makhani was the best ..great decor Our server was from Gurdaspur Punjab and was simple and courteous and very nice to talk. We went here with great hope after seeing 4-stars across numerous reviews. We did enjoy the fact that there is an Indian restaurant after eating Pizza and Pasta for 7 straight days. Unfortunately the cooking is just wrong. All the spices were not fried before making the gravy. The Daal Tadka and the Lamb Vindaloo both had raw spice taste and smell. They tasted of raw red chili pepper. They should get the cook some better training. The appetizer Pakoras were tasteless. The lounge music playing was horrible. And service is slow when we were 2 or 3 tables full only. This food is much worse than Indian restaurant in Auckland, London, Paris and San Francisco. read more

We were looking for an Indian place while at the Swartswood State Park Indian, a face is barely noticeable from outside, but the reviews are also the food was very good comparing even to the Indian hub Edison. The service was a bit slow, but they could get away with that. The place is not very large, and had to turn down many at 6 PM for dinner, which is early next time we would probably go just to visit this restaurant, though it is an hour away from us. read more

This place is in the basement, looks like it's closed but it's open. The food was ok, not to great not to bad. One of the better spots in Rome to get Indian food if you are craving for one. Overpriced and average quality. The plastic chair I sat in outside had duck tape keeping it together. Rice and naan are charged separately- never have we seen this before. The portions are very small. The only good item I enjoyed was the samosa - it was hot and full of flavor. The chicken Karahi was chewy and sauce too acidic. After a long and tiring day in Rome and we were all done with Pasta for the day decided to try some Indian food. My husband doesn't like Indian food at all unless it's cooked at home but he really enjoyed the food. Service was exceptional. Good ambiance. Would definitely recommend this place. We had friends that said they tried Krishna 13 and liked it but we read a yelp review by Sunil M about this place and decided to give it a try. Service - I have found that service in general in Rome is much different than in the states. However, this place had great service for Rome. I think the restaurant is owned by Punjabi family and one of them made sure that my wife vegetarian requests were accommodated. Food - we got three dishes, two naan, and a bottle of wine. For the three dishes we got Butter Paneer, Saag Paneer and Chicken Tikka masala. All three dishes were wonderfully prepared. We especially liked the butter paneer. We planned to take a taxi back to our hotel but we kept eating after we were full so we decided to walk back. The jeera rice had an awesome flavor (not just basmati rice with some jeera). We would highly recommend this place if you are tired of pasta and want something different. Atmosphere - the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. It's very dimly lit and real candles provide alot of the light. The music is nice and soft and adds to the experience. Price - I out the price as 25 euros per person but I thought it was relatively cheap for a bottle of wine plus two naan and three dishes. read more

In the heart of Rome is a small sunken restaurant offering great service and serving up some amazing Indian food. We had some samosas, butter chicken, tikka chicken masala, biryani, and of course no Indian food is complete without naan. The samosas, butter,and the tikka chicken were fantastic. They hit all the right notes of flavor and spiciness. The biryani was the only portion that I felt could have used some work, wasn't what I was hoping for in flavor but still decent.....also the only other negative I could conjure up was that food doesn't come with naan, you have to order it on the side. Been traveling through Italy for almost two weeks now and really needed a break from the pasta/pizza. Found this hidden gem on yelp. Had a little trouble locating it without WiFi and a GPS but was able to find it and were sure glad we did! The staff was very friendly, and the decor was really cute and authentic. All the items we ordered were delicious and fresh. We couldn't believe how reasonably priced everything was! And we could overhear the table next to us raving about their food as well. By the time we were in Rome, we were craving Indian food, especially with all the walking around all day. Anyways, we found Indian affairs on Tripadvisor. Rome has a ton of Indian restaurants so the choice can be confusing. We were very happy with Indian Affairs. Firstly location, it was easy to find as it was right opposite Hotel Royale which is right off Via Nationale . Secondly this place remains open late, which was a major benefit, as we used to have dinner around 10pm after seeing so many sites that Rome has to offer. Thirdly, this is an authentic north Indian place, run by Punjabi people. The wait staff was friendly and spoke Punjabi, Hindi, English and Italian. Their portions are medium, prices are reasonable and taste is good. We are not big eaters but had left overs everyday and had it on the next day. Over the course of two days, we tried several dishes like Samosas, Kadai paneer, Daal, Biryani, Naan and Chhole. The Paneer and Daal were really my favorite. I have had much better Biryani at Hyderabadi places in India and USA. The Naan was and Chhole were average as I did have higher expectations on those dishes from a North Indian joint. The place seemed packed on Sunday and Monday night with locals and tourists alike. They have outside seating as well. The service was friendly but slow (probably appropriate from Italian standards). They were nice enough to pack our left overs for us but they do charge €2 for take away containers. Ambiance is really nice and I like the décor and music a lot. I'd go here again! read more

Very good food - Definitely one of the best you can find in Rome. But 5 star goes extremely nice and hospitable hosts. The food was quintessential Punjabi in taste. The chefs hail from Punjab and Jammu (North Indian states), so obviously, the food was every bit authentic in taste and very freshly cooked. I was bowled over by Tamarind Chutney - this is a must must try. A little anecdote to display the hospitality of the hosts, and the reason I wish I could have given more than just 5 stars: After finishing our lunch, when we came out of the restaurant, and were disappointed to see that it was pouring heavily. So we waited in a nearby nook for a while, but the downpour didn't relent. Half-soaked and little chilly, we decided to go back to the restaurant and have a cup of tea and wait for a while while the rain stops. We went back and ordered some. It was very authentic Indian Chai, and didn't taste like one those hopeless ready-made teabag teas. And when we got up to leave, and asked for bill, the host just refused, and said, 'it's fine sir'. Offering tea to a guest is an unshakable part of Indian culture, but seeing it being followed oversees, was a heart-warmer! read more

We just arrived after an incredibly large dinner party so things were a little hectic. We started to walk away, thinking it was that crowded... when we realized they were leaving. We ordered our food and got it to go - we were sick of going out to eat after 10 days in Italy. We ate it back in our hotel room. Sure, it was a little hectic because they were busy cleaning up, but worth it. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was exceptional. We didn't get any rice with our take-out, so we were a little bummed. However, we were able to mop up the tikka sauce with the multiple orders of naan we had. I can't speak for service at the actual restaurant, but it definitely is an interesting location and environment. The woman who helped us at the front desk was very friendly and conversational...pretty hard to come by in this city, IMO. In total, we paid 23 euro which I suppose is about $30 USD...cheapest Indian food I've ever had. If I ever go back to Rome (not likely, but I wish) I'd definitely go here. Absolutely a must if you're staying in Rome. I had the Lamb Vindaloo and it was awesome!!! It's spicy but worth it. If you don't prefer the spice my wife and daughter (7yr. Old) had the butter chicken and was pleasantly surprised. Sides of rice and nan and you are on your way to a memorable dinner for a small price. The service was great and even brought a little humor to the table. Great job to everyone on the staff, 5 star!!!
