This review is for Dr. Randhawa and his work at SoCal Food Allergy over in Long Beach. I created a new yelp listing for it (https://www.yelp.com/biz/southern-california-food-allergy-institute-scfai-long-beach), but also wanted to review Dr. Randhawa specifically: Dr. Inderpal Randhawa and his cutting edge, innovative Tolerance Induction Program (TIP) has changed so many lives... and it is changing ours. Our daughter has a life-threatening peanut allergy that we discovered when we introduced peanut butter to her when she was about a year old. The reaction was immediate, and sent her to urgent care. We avoided nuts and were careful about restaurants for years, until an acquaintance told us about SoCal Food Allergy and the work that Dr. Randhawa is doing. Their child was extremely allergic to peanuts, and was able to eat it with no issues after going through the program. We immediately put ourselves on the waiting list. We thought being 700+ on the waitlist was long, but now their waitlist is 2000+ people long! Patients fly in from all over the country, and even as far as Australia, to come see Dr. Randhawa. That is a true testament to his work. When we met and talked to Dr. Randhawa for the first time at our second appointment, we knew right away that we would do this. He is so knowledgeable and compassionate. You can tell he really cares about these children, and has a deep passion and conviction for food allergies. His "precision medicine" approach is uniquely his, and different from other traditional OIT methods. First of all, they do thorough diagnostic testing and data analytics. What they're doing is discovering patterns within the data collected. Through their research, they've been able to design predictive markers based on phenotypes, so they can predict at what dose for which allergens they can anticipate issues, and make a plan for dosing using this data. Their success rate is 99.9% Protein matching - they don't simply say "your child is allergic to peanuts" and leave it at that. They seek to understand exactly what specific proteins in the allergen is the child allergic to. Peanuts are purposely one of the last allergens to be introduced because they can introduce 8 of the 13 proteins that exist in peanuts through other foods. Thus, by the time peanuts are introduced, the child's allergy to peanuts might have already decreased by 15-20% because the child was already previously exposed to certain peanut proteins from other allergens in earlier food challenges. We have both our kids in TIP now, and are about halfway through. It has been a very positive experience so far. Mr. Randhawa has always directly responded to any questions or concerns I have, and has always felt within reach via a simple email despite the fact that he must receive so many inquiries a day! The staff also always provide a detailed plan of care after each visit, so you know exactly what you need to do at home. They also detail out what you should do should your child have a reaction while home dosing. SoCal Food Allergy's end goal is to have the child eat whatever they want, whenever they want - without restriction. The program focuses on high dosing to induce tolerance and seeks to turn the immune system off, so that it will no longer be allergic to certain proteins in foods. They work to make regular dosing as infrequent as possible, so that the child will be okay even if she doesn't eat the allergen every single day for the rest of her life. The child will still need regular ongoing dosing, the frequency would just be significantly less. I highly recommend doing the research yourself, and look into his program if your child suffers from food allergies! read more

3,700 patients in treatment. Nonprofit status for years. Look up the 990 form online which shows how this facility is regulated and its organizational goals to treat all patients with food allergy. I'm a CPA. These forms are vetted by the IRS and the federal government. My family's case was in the rare disease world. TPIRC is world class. It may not be perfect, but the effort put into building this organization which does active research and treatment at the same time is unmatched. It angers me when patients make ridiculous claims. They simply don't understand TPIRC has a large goal in mind - treating all orphan conditions. The customer service may not be perfect, but having been at TPIRC for over 4 years, I believe the customer service is pretty great. Everyone smiles and the place is booming. After posting my review I have been receiving harassing messages on yelp from either Randawha himself, or his family in Mission Viejo. All the more reason to stay clear of him. Notice his positive reviews are not from real yelpers. We go to Dr. Randhawa at TPIRC for our child's allergy challenge, and it is the worse experience so far. You meet Dr. Randhawa only once, and the rest of your visits from then on are with physician assistants. If you have an urgent question, good luck trying to email them. Dr. Randhawa does not even answer the emails. This non profit machine is on auto pilot to just have money for the owner at the expense of the patients. Good luck trying to call them, they never answer. I suggest going somewhere else. read more

My son can eat foods he could not eat previously. What more can you say. He delivers freedom! He has wonderful bedside manner. He has a tough job of seeing hundreds of patients who demand unique care. He explains his plan, and has compassion. read more

Dr Randhawa absolutely saved my daughter. She was diagnosed with severe allergies to peanuts and all tree nuts, and after 3 years of his care, she is able to safely eat everything! True food freedom! We followed his treatment plan to the letter, and we are SO grateful! He is so kind, compassionate, brilliant and caring, and we loved all the nurse practitioners we worked with at his office. Hands down the best doctor you will ever go see. They just don't make them like this anymore. When you arrive, you'll be one of maybe two patients waiting. (if that). You will see the doctor right away and he will spend as much time with you as he deems necessary. Great bedside manner...explains things in terms you will understand. He is so knowledgeable and well versed in his field. Was able to diagnose and treat a condition my son had that was misdiagnosed by three other doctors. Would trust this man with my life. read more

Best DOCTOR ever... My family & I have been patients for 3 years. He has made us better. He will find your illness, & in his own words " I don't want to make you feel better, I want to help you get rid of it" & so we are better and on a path to get rid of our illnesses. I only came to this site because I was getting the number to pass to a friend and saw his name pop up on Yelp and was curious. I can't understand the reviews that are negative. I think they saw a different person all together. My daughter has been a patient for 3 years and he has cured her of a debilitating allergy. He takes him time with all her questions and listens to her stories as she is a 10 years girl!! His is the most amazing Dr. I have ever come across and my whole family has a very high regard for him. We miss him already since my daughter is healed and we have one last visit next month. The man is an innovative genius at what he does and puts the needs of the patient first. In my opinion, this doctor is unprofessional. He is young, immature, and his bedside manner is lacking. In three years, he was still calling my kid by the wrong name! All is fine as long as you let him be in charge, but if you challenge him...watch out. If you are an advocate for your family member or yourself and want to have a say in the care that is received, this is not the doctor for you. read more

I have to agree with what T.J. said. I am a physician myself and I would never treat a patient the way Dr. Randhawa does. He is very smart, but it is impossible to get a return phone call or email from him. My child has life threatening food allergies and I had a question about the allergy action plan he gave us (a written plan for what to do if my child is in life threatening anaphylaxis). I left several phone messages as well as emails and never got a response. I was told I needed an appointment in order to get my question answered, but they were all booked for the next four months and were not making any further appointments. What kind of doctor leaves their patients stranded with no way to get important medical questions answered? Eventually we changed doctors. This is not normal standard of care for an allergist to refuse to answer questions about an emergency plan from a patient that he has recently seen. read more

Dr. Randhawa is the best and most knowledgeable doctor ever! The way he explains the problem, and how his treatment plan is going to fix it is amazing - everything is so scientifically laid out and makes perfect sense. Even my 7 year old was able to understand! He is not only a medical practitioner, but also a professor of medicine at the University and an avid researcher - no matter what our questions are about the latest developments in the field, he is always a step ahead! Dr Randhawa may be the most brilliant physician I have ever met. One of his unique skills is that he treats the whole person, because he is board certified in so many areas, he actually looks at the whole person, rather then just being site specific as most specialists are. My daughter could be the poster child for rare diseases and unusual drug reactions. Not only has he been our lifeline over the past 4 years, he has been the only doctor to give us hope. He has shown my daughter respect and includes her in our medical decision making process. Not only has he greatly improved her health, but he has taught her the importance of being her own advocate and to having a voice in her medical care. I come from a family of doctors and have worked in hospitals as a medical social worker most my life. When I say that Doctor Randhawa is a prince among doctors, it is because I have known far too many frogs in the medical field. read more
