He listens to his patients. Dr Buchfuhrer really made a great improvement in the quality of my life treating my RLS!

Dr Buchfuhrer is a good doctor and received great care by all while in his care. However, after several years under his care - right after some tests - received an office call saying he no longer accepts my insurance. Dropped me! and no further follow up on the tests I'd completed. Very disappointing. read more

I have suffered with severe RLS for more than 25 years. I was under the care of a Neurologist and taking so much medication! I didn't even consider that there might be another avenue. I joined a Facebook group for RLS support and read about Dr. Buchfehrer. I looked him up and read some pretty promising reviews. His office is more than 2 hrs from my home, but I decided to make an appointment anyway. He took a thorough history and said he could treat me with a different medication and I would be 100% better. He was right!! I have been under his care for about six months and I have almost no symptoms. I sleep better than I have in many, many years. I can sit through a movie or a concert without having to stand against the rear wall halfway through. I can ride in car for several hours without anxiety. It's a freaking miracle as far as I'm concerned. My quality of life has improved so much!! I cannot thank Dr. Buchfuhrer enough. He needs to train other physicians around the country so that others can find the relief I have found. read more

He has saved my life. In 2023, I was suicidal. The RLS was so bad I wanted to die. I threw caution to the wind, started researching specialist and found him. A year later, I still have mild symptoms, but I no longer want to die. He is 100 percent compassionate, and his staff is on point. read more

Waited over an hour in the waiting room, felt rushed the whole apt like we were just a checklist item to get over with, and didn't feel like he took the time to really understand what was going on. FANTASTIC DOCTOR AND STAFF! Can't say enough about this doctor...was sent here by the recommendation of Dr. Meldy (another good doctor) He listens attentively and addresses your concerns as well as those he has for you and your health. I came in for a pulmonary problem that lasted for over 6 months, and he helped with compassion and care. I also had a problem with RLS (restless leg syndrome) when I came in, and it has nearly disappeared. There is also not enough that can be said about his staff. THEY ARE SUPERSTARS! They are always kind to everyone that has come into that office when I've been there...even if you just walked in! In a day and age when everyone sometimes are having bad days, they always have a smile and handle it with courtesy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND...even when you're having a bad day...they'll smile warmly with compassion and care read more

I travel across the country to see Dr. Buchfuhrer for RLS. Although I live in an area with an abundant supply of excellent medical professionals, it is clear to me that the money and time it takes to travel to Dr. Buchfuhrer's office for RLS is priceless. I had been treated for RLS for over 15 years cycling through traditional treatments and medications that eventually did not work. After my first appointment with Dr. Buchfuhrer three years ago, I got my life back. Thanks to his expertise, excellent diagnostic skills, thorough understanding of the literature, he arrived at a medication and answer that is effective without side effects. I highly recommend Dr. Buchfuhrer. As an aside, his staff is helpful, communicative and timely and this follows the leadership set by Dr. Buchfuhrer. Once accepted as a patient, the office online portal is a great tool for communicating any back and forth required on questions, refills etc. read more

Dr. Buchfuhrer is amazing he explained everything to me like no other doctor has.... I will definitely recommend him..

Dr. B is the guru for Restless Legs Syndrome. People from all over the country flock to see him. RLS discussion boards speak of him with hushed reverence. He is a completely unpretentious and unassuming doctor, which is hard to find in Los Angeles. On top of that, he doesn't rush you, and will actually treat you with kindness and respect. He's published and well-respected in his field. He's written several books and sits on the Mayo Clinic Proceedings for RLS research and discussion. This guy is on the cutting edge of RLS treatment, all from his dinky little office in Downey. If you are suffering with RLS, he can change your life. It's worth the drive. To many, it's even worth a flight. Dr. B practices medicine, because he wants to actually help people. read more

Dr. Buchfuhrer is absolutely awesome! I've been fighting PLMD (restless arms and legs) for years. On the first visit, things got better. Over several months, he worked with me until the issue was nearly gone. We drive down from the San Fransisco Bay Area, and it's so worth it! Also, Dr. B. Has been very good about being very reachable by phone and email. And always so patient, taking the time each person needs without rushing. A large part of Dr. B's success is the awesome staff he has. Esmeralda and Yehuada are sweet, courteous and so helpful. The practice is very busy, but they always focus on you when you're there, making sure you have everything you need, and always going above and beyond. Anyone with RLS or PLMD should RUN to Dr. B and get their resolution! read more

Saw Dr. Buchfuhrer today after searching for a pulmonologist after two other fails elsewhere. The reviews in here are so accurate. Dr Buchfuhrer is not just knowledgeable but also takes his time to care for the patient, which is something that I've been having trouble to find in doctors. I'm so glad I found him. I feel I'm finally in good hands to getting back on track to breathing normal again and having a healthy lifestyle. Would truly recommend him! read more

Dr. Buchfuhrer was recommended to our church group by a fellow member. Dr. Buchfuhrer is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases & Sleep Disorders. The doctor is thorough and directs his full attention on the patient. And, he listens and respects a patient's input, making it a partnership in achieving the desired results. Patients visit from far and wide; even traveling from other states we are told. He has received numerous recognitions and achievements. Dr. Buchfuhrer returns calls personally and his assistants in front office and back are knowledgable and friendly. Primary communication between appointments can be the use of a "portal" online. This site notes appointments, medical dx., medication information, etc., and may be used in lieu of a call for exchanges of information. Parking is at no charge and there is a pharmacy and expresso bar on the entry level. We recommend Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer. read more

I just saw Dr. Buchfuhrer. He spent a lot of time with me talking me through my restless leg syndrome. He was very knowledgeable in this area. The front staff was helpful, and I was seen in a timely manner. In addition, he welcomes being contacted by the Healow app, and he responds promptly. I look forward to being under his care for the long run. read more

Best doctor ever. He was so thorough, I couldn't believe it. Even though I went to him about my restless legs syndrome, he wound up diagnosing me with mild asthma, which explained a lot of things to me. He spent a full hour talking to me and explaining all my options in great detail. I can't say enough good stuff about this doctor. read more

Have seen him for almost ten years for sleep disorders - RLS and periodic limb movements in sleep. He always works with me and helps me find what is best for me. I noticed another review about him being late from lunch. I can only say what has happened to me. I had an appointment last week and didn't even have time to get settled and was already being called in. In the ten years I have been going there, I have rarely had to wait more than a few minutes and can only recall one time where the wait was longer then 5-10 minutes before being called back. He is personable, knowledgeable, and works very hard to find the best solution for your situation. The staff are all nice; sometimes they do not always follow through. Most of the time, though, it's all good - I just pay attention and make sure it works out right. If you have RLS and have not had good results with your current doctor, it is worth seeing him. read more

Dr Buchfuhrer is a hero! I suffer from RLS with augmentation and needed a new approach to treatment. I first heard of Dr B when my sister gave me his book and then later through the RLS Foundation. He truly understands RLS and most importantly knows how to successfully and safely treat it. When he told me 2 1/2 years ago that my RLS would be very insignificant in my life it was hard to believe. But it's true! I rarely have symptoms at all anymore. My life has completely changed for the better! It is worth a drive, or even a flight to see the most respected doctor in the field of RLS. He and his staff are awesome and responsive! The best! read more

I had my first experience with RLS in 1980. I was 13. No doctor could ever diagnose it. When the WWW came out in the 1990's, I began my own research and discovered the definition of Restless Leg Syndrome was elated that I finally knew I wasn't alone. Back then the main line of treatment was Levodopa, and I was afraid. Eventually, my PCP prescribed Klonopin in the late '90's, and I'm still addicted. In the late 2000's, my PCP put me on Mirapex. In November, my RLS came back so severely that I had to miss work. One doctor in San Diego treats it, and couldn't fit me in for months, even though I offered 20K for them to see me immediately. Back to the internet, I began doing medical research and kept finding a common author in private practice. I googled Dr Buchfuhrer and realized he was only as far as Los Angeles. I figured someone with his reputation would be 6 months out for an appointment. They got me in within 2 weeks. He didn't even look at my chart, and just began asking questions. He spent over an hour with me, explained that I was going through augmentation and devised a plan for my recovery. That was a month ago. Last night was the first night I slept for 8 hours in over 3 months. He is a God send, a life saver, a caring human being, and a true professional. Oh, how I wish there were more medical professional like him on this earth! He is also now caring for my pulmonology issues as well. The other reviews are right; he returns phone calls personally. I left a message at night and received a call-back from him within 5 minutes. Educated and raised in Quebec, Canada explains why he is better than 90% of American MD who only care about getting paid and staying within the 15 minute allotted window covered by insurance. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. He is the best RLS doctor on earth. He will save your life from the misery of RLS. read more

Saw Dr. Buchfuhrer for the first time for a consultation regarding Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). The office staff is knowledgeable, kind and through. I had been through 4 doctors and 8 different medications for RLS before finding Dr. B. After one visit with him I was put on the right meds. and got my RLS under control. He is 1.5 hour drive for me but well worth it to find such a great dr. I agree with the above posts. Dr. B is very kind and listens to every concern without rushing you or talking down to you. I don't know what I would do without him! read more

I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer. Dr B was recommended by my Boston RLS specialist who knew I was moving to CA. No matter that I was in SF and Dr B is just out of LA, she assured me it would be worth the trip. He took over an hour and a half with me during that initial appt, never rushed me one little bit (it was after 5 by the time we finished up - now THAT is service!!) and he even treated my asthma to boot! He is as kind as he is knowledgeable and def one of the authorities in the field. I had had one of the hardest RLS cases for three docs in Boston, only to have Dr B say he had seen worse and could definitely help me. So far so good, i could not be happier! read more

Today was my mom's first visit with Dr. Buchfuhrer and my sister asked me to acknowledge him as well as his staff for their great service. Thank you everyone. You are appreciated. read more

My first visit with Dr. Buchfuhrer was over 20 years ago and I still visit him. Many years ago I was diagnosed with asthma & the onset didn't begin until I was an adult so I was very unfamiliar with the treatment or how to help myself. Dr B informed me of what the triggers were that would worsen my asthma. Whenever my breathing or asthma worsened I was in his office immediately. He treated me with medications that would soon bring me back to 100%. He listens and asks questions & takes the time to better understand all elements of your illness & I never feel rushed. I've since moved to the Palm Springs area and I would still travel 2 hours to see him. I highly recommend Dr. Buchfuhrer for any pulmonary or sleep disorders. His staff is phenomenal as well -- always caring and efficient. His office is busy so being patient will be well worth it! read more

Dr. Buchfuhrer has incredible up to date knowledge about RLS treatment. He takes time to listen and is very thorough. I traveled from FL to see him. I had seen 5 different Dr. in my area before flying out to CA. They were all either overwhelmed with the severity of my condition or attempted to use treatments that were taught to them 20 years ago. My RLS started in 1991 and I suffered from severe augmentation in the last 2 years. After one visit my condition is finally under control. My local Doctor is more than willing to follow Dr. Buchfuhrer's treatment plan. read more

Dr. Buchfuhrer was super nice and helpful when I saw him for the first time. He explained things really well compared to some doctors who feel more tense, terse, and rushed. He gave me his full time and attention because I clearly needed a professional's opinion over that of my own. I liked his manner a lot. I am glad I saw him since not only was he knowledgeable and informative, he was also easy to communicate with and discerning and friendly to boot. read more

I suffered with restless legs syndrome and insomnia for many years. About 6 yrs ago I read a book written by Dr. Buchfurer. I pay out of pocket to see him because he is not part of my hmo. I am newly diagnosed with RLS, and live in an area where no one has genuine expertise in treating the disorder. Wanting to avoid augmentation and any other medication complications, I booked a flight to see Dr. Buchfuhrer for a consultation in hopes that he would be able to guide me onto the right path and be willing to work with my providers back home. He is everything other reviewers say he is. He is a kind and deeply caring medical expert who takes all the time he needs to thoroughly understand his patient as an individual. He explained my options thoroughly and made it clear he would continue to see me, consult with me on the phone, and work with my providers back home to see to it that I got the best possible results. I am relieved, encouraged, and confident that I am now in good hands. I was not happy about having to go to the expense and inconvenience of flying to LA, but it turns out to have absolutely worth it. read more

RLS sufferers, you've come to the right place. I was treated by 3 neurologists for RLS before coming here. When I had augmentation, doctor #3 was piling on me all kinds of additional meds and I was feeling like a zombie. I remember worrying that I would never feel right again. Dr. Buchfuhrer is the expert at the RLS Support group meetings. His name is on the major research articles. He is nationally ( maybe internationally?) recognized. What relief I felt when he asked me questions that showed he knew what I was going through, and he listened and talked to me, as if I was his only patient. He gives you his full attention, empathically and knowledgeably. He calls you back the same day when you leave a message- once it was almost 10:30 p.m. but his voicemail says he will call you up until 11 p.m.!! His staff are friendly, professional and efficient. If you are reading this review wondering where to go with RLS, your search is over. I'm happy for you because your life is going to change for the better! read more

Beware of hostile, rude, incompetent front office. Dr. B has been our family doctor for many years and he has helped us. From time to time his front office folks have not been so helpful. Today, especially, I had particularly difficult time with Yadira (sp?) trying to get a prescription refilled that I have been routinely taking. She told me that the drug store had been sending requests for refill but it could not be approved because I had not been to see Dr. B in over a year which was not true. Then she quoted state law. She argued that the doctor has over 500 patients and they can't be calling everybody to come and see the doctor every year and that it was a patient's responsibility to know the state law that governs prescription dispensing. Really? Then she said, as a courtesy, she would send the drug store a 1 month refill approval (not an "authorization" because I used that word got a lecture on that!) if I booked an appointment with Dr. B! WOW. Sounds like they want to bill me for doctor visit more than help a patient. She raised her voice and wouldn't even let me get a word in until I politely asked her to let me finish when I questioned her and then she said that I didn't even ask a question so she didn't have to answer me. Ugh. I waited for over an hour at the drug store for the doctors office to send an "ok" to refill the prescription. Yadira said she had already sent the "ok" before we got off the phone. Not so according to the drug store I was at who sent the refill requests. With help of drug store we found the prescription was sent to another location. Another hour. Bottom line, I booked an appointment so I could get my prescription (seems like coercion more than courtesy). It may be time to find another doctor. And wait office wait times are also a problem. read more
