One star is very generous. I wish I could give less. The staff are completely incompetent at this office. And when they're incompetent ends up being a complete inconvenience to you they do not care. They don't even apologize. I called weeks ago for an appointment with the doctor. They told me the doctor was booking really far out. I told them I wanted to definitely have him see the doctor eventually, but in the meantime, I was offered to see the nurse practitioner. I expressed to her since I wanted him to get in quickly or as quick as possible, which was within a couple weeks that I'd be willing to see the nurse practitioner quote so long as I can still see the doctor eventually" she assured me that that would be fine. So we decided on April 23 for the nurse practitioner and then she made me appointment in June to follow up with the doctor. I do not live close. I live 40 minutes away and I had to pull my child out of school, and then we drove all the way out there showed up 15 minutes early for our appointment and she proceeds to tell me that we do not have an appointment. I explained to her that I absolutely did have an appointment and she basically made it seem like since I couldn't remember the name of the person who scheduled the appointment or had some sort of text message appointment reminder that I had basically just made it up in my mind or something. She told me that I only had an appointment in June and I told her and explained to her what had happened and how I had the initial appointment with the nurse practitioner and I was told that I had a follow up appointment with the doctor in June, she told me "we cannot make two appointments at one time" which is interesting because whoever takes appointments when you call over the phone clearly doesn't know that rule and did not let me know that or else I would not have gone out of my way to call out of work and pull my child out of school to go to my nonexistent appointment because of their incompetence. Needless to say, I will never be going back there again and I do not recommend this place at all because they're incompetent, they're rude, they don't even apologize when they make mistakes or try to make it right. We were standing there she could've tried to squeeze us in, but she didn't even try. She just stood there smugly in my face saying sorry your problem not mine. read more

Dr. Meltzer is an amazing physician! His staff is kind and supportive as well. Sadly I moved out of the area (over a hundred miles away) but he was my Allergy/Asthma doctor for a couple decades! He is always professional but has a lovely easy going bedside manner, nice sense of humor too. He really cares! He explains things so well, he treats me like an intelligent human! So many other doctors do not... LOVE Dr. Meltzer! I am moving closer to his office but still quite a distance BUT I am seriously considering returning to his practice! One of the best experiences we've ever had with a doctor's office. The staff was so friendly and welcoming & Dr.Meltzer was amazing. He answered all our questions, was so informative, patient, friendly and even made my son a balloon animal. He gave great recommendations and advice for not only my son but for me and my husband. Because insurances can be difficult and medical care can be expensive, he was sure to offer/advise us the cheapest most effective options. Wow. This place is incredible!! Jennifer (front desk) is the most helpful, kind, "on top of it" person I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I would give her a thousand stars if I could. She treats everyone like they are her best friend and will do ANYTHING to get you whatever you need. She takes the time to truly help, even though she is so busy! Dr Meltzer is great too. He listens, he asks for your input, he cares and he truly wants whatever is best for his patients. I have been amazed by this place and would recommend them to anyone. In terms of Covid-19 precautions they are great! I was so worried, but they all wear masks and face sheilds and are behind huge plexiglass windows (front desk and doctor). Steven Meltzer needs to do a research about what is TSW（ Topical Steroids Withdrawal ) . If he had knowledge about the damage of prescribing a long period of the steroids over a patient's eyelid which would result in an ordeal of TSW for many years , he would be a lit more carful in dispensing steroids as dispensing candy. When I first visited Dr. Meltzer , I notify him all the medications including steroids that were prescribed by the previous doctors . Steroids should not be given for more than 2 weeks. Instead of stopping me from using steroids due to the previous prescriptions , dr Steven Meltzer ignorantly and mistakenly gave me more and stronger steroids over the very delicate eyelid areas. Dr. Steven Meltzer even gave me lots of samples that would last more than a couple of months . Due to his mistakes, I have had suffered TSW since 2016 . TSW is a nightmare no one should go through and I am still struggling with it after 5 years . I have had no energy to post my review because I have been too busy and fatigued in saving myself from TSW until now. read more

Dr. Meltzer is a good doctor it's a staff I have a problem with. My daughter started weekly allergy injections and on her second week of getting an injection my daughter was turned away because the staff said that they called to confirm her appointment and because I did not return and confirm the appointment they canceled her. A wasted trip a waste and gas and a waste of time this was unacceptable. If I wasn't going to be able to make the appointment I would call and cancel it they took it upon themselves to cancel an appointment because I didn't return a phone call and by the way I never received the phone call I never had a missed call from them or message on my cell and for that reason I will not be returning to this office I will be looking for another allergist! I have a tendency to only acknowledge the bad experiences I suffer through, and I know that I must make an effort to also acknowledge the outstanding services I experience. Dr. Meltzer is one of those outstanding services I have experienced. We began seeing Dr. Meltzer more than ten years ago for our daughter. Now, I also see Dr. Meltzer for my concerns. Dr. Meltzer spends as much time as is needed with us; we never feel rushed. He answers all questions and provides any needed prescriptions before sending us on our way. He has never forced unneeded tests on me or my daughter, and he is always looking to minimize/reduce our use of medications. I do think my daughter, however, is a bit disappointed that she is no longer rewarded with a ballon animal before our departure. For myself, when I am sick, Dr. Meltzer is always my first call, not my primary care physician. He knows my conditions and history and prescribes appropriately. MEAN STAFF!!! I was late, They were annoyed, wanted me to reschedule but I pleaded with them because I had trouble walking and my son had severe headaches from alergies.. They angrily told me to come in... She looked me up and down with seething contempt and practically ran us to the room. It was too close to their lunch is the problem. She yells at me, "HAVE HIM TAKE HIS SHIRT OFF AND LAY ON THE BED FACE DOWN!"... He is 10. He does this, he is scared, she scribbled numbers quickly across his back ... Without a word she starts stabbing him on his back on the numbers throwing the little needles into the cups they are clanking into the cups, he is screaming asking "what's happening it hurts" and crying and I am trying to be calm holding his hand... Then she says abruptly I will be back in 15 minutes and leaves...By now he is crying uncontrollably and asking how long, pleading with me let him have headaches make it stop what is happening.... This still bothers me five months later!! So I am telling you BEWARE this woman should not be in the medical field... Then the doctor reviews it apparently, and this woman says he needs 11 more on his arm.. By now he has been treated like shit, he's hysterical and I am trying not to cry... He is screaming PLEASE MOMMY NO MORE! No More! Make them stop!! I don't care, I will keep the headaches..." I called his dad, but he can't get here in time to help. The doctor comes in and says it is too much for him... She was nice, but the damage was done. The doctor says to come back when he is calm, She says "we don't want to traumatize him" well your staff took care of that already ... So, today, May 2, 2019, we have never been back. Dr. Meltzer is the best allergy and asthma doctor I have ever met. You will not find a more knowledgeable or caring doctor. He has been my young sons doctor for 3 years. He carefully navigated a very scary asthma situation that had resulted in hospitalization and has found a treatment plan that has resulted in no more hospitalization and through careful care and monitoring we were able to greatly reduce the number of medications my young son needed. I never write negative reviews, I don't like to hurt anyone's business, but-- My son saw Dr. Meltzer and had allergy shots for seven years. Stopped when he was 12. Now he's at college in another state, and he moved into a house, had immediate allergy attack, sneezed uncontrollably for hours. Long story short, we suspected house had mold. But initial tests were negative, son refused to move. Eventually he had other respiratory effects, including a 3-4 min bout of trouble breathing. Now mold test of house was positive. I immediately called Meltzer's office but no one would speak to me as it had been too many years. I begged, saying this was a crisis and we had to figure out if he could even stay there for a couple weeks while we found another place for him to live, etc. Eventually a nurse called back but I didn't get much help and it took months to set up appointment with dr. Son went but apparently I had written the time down wrong (weird) and he arrived half an hour late (but exactly at time I had written down). Dr refused to see him even though I explained he was out of moldy house but we needed to figure out if there was anything to be done to for all that exposure he had to mold. I found the office to be officious and rigid--and I definitely remember that rigidity from seven years of going there weekly. Place runs like a factory, where you and your child are just a number. Shame on Dr. Meltzer for never offering in all this time/during this crisis to pick up the phone and call us. read more

Dr. Meltzer is hands down the best allergist for us. My son, now 25, needed medical help for allergies at a young age. We were lucky enough to find Dr. Meltzer after trying several, and have never looked since. His staff is accomodating and keeps you on track for success. The doctor is accessable and happily adjusted treatment as we had questions and as my son grew. At around age 20 we left, thinking he had grown out of the allergies, but knowing we could retrun if they resurfaced. We won't hesitate to come back if needed, because these are busy, but truly nice people. Hopefully Jennifer is still in the office. She even knew who we were when we called before we told her:). I have never written a yelp review before because I have never felt compelled either way to do so. Sadly, my first one is negative. I want to maybe save some people time because I feel like I have wasted the last 9 months going to this office. I came in desperate bc my poor 18 month old was so miserably itchy and the pediatrician, whom I love, recommended Dr Meltzer. I couldn't get an appointment right away bc they're so booked, but they set me up with a nurse practitioner as soon as they could. She was amazing and really listened to me. Then he came in. Yes, he seemed very knowledgeable, but he kept cutting me off and saying "she just has eczema and it's not as bad as I've seen. Give her lotion and baths." I was incredibly annoyed as I have an older child who suffered from bad eczema and I had tried several things before taking it to this level. He treated me like I know nothing and he knows it all. He just kept spewing information like a college professor and handed me 3 prescriptions for creams (one being $450!!!) and a coupon. He ended it with a cute little balloon animal and some baby talk to my toddler, and a follow up appointment for a skin scratch test. I show up a week later for that appointment and the lady giving the test says she cannot give it bc my daughter skin is so broken out. I immediately got mad bc they had seen her skin the week before and I informed him that her skin was ALWAYS this way. She then calls him in to look it over and he says the same thing. I mention my frustration that we were just there the week before and he saw her skin. He then rambles on more of his knowledge and the reasoning it can't be done. Once again I explain that I understand, but this is something we could've solved LAST WEEK. He then says we can do blood testing, and I remind him that I also showed him a blood test we ALREADY DID that is in her file bc he took a copy. Then he says ok let's do a couple scratch tests. The nurse proceeds to do about 10 allergens and hands me the results and tells me nothing. I have to make ANOTHER appointment to be told what the hell it even means. P.S. 3 of them came back HIGHLY ALLERGIC and no one finds the need to point that out before we leave?? I had to call the office to ask. Several weeks later we get our follow up appointment and we get prescribed 3 more creams with another follow up to see how the creams worked. A couple months later (and 6 failed prescription creams, daily bath, change this change that) we return for our follow up and I tell him nothing has worked, he pulls out his pad again for new prescriptions and I ask for more allergy testing. He says "I can give her a blood test for whatever you want you just have to tell me what." I walk out again with more precautions and no answers and this time a 3 month request to return. At this point I had given up with this office until more hives and breakouts and sleepless nights for my poor itchy girl. Decided to give them one last try since I've already done all the paperwork and give through this lengthy process. I call ask for an appointment for blood allergy testing. She hesitantly gives me an appointment and tells me to make sure she is off of antihistamine for 72hrs. No other rules or guidelines given. I show up at the appointment time and wait forever in the waiting room (another problem this office has that I haven't mentioned yet), and when they finally call us back they say "ohhh, is there someone with you that your other child can wait with? Or can you call someone to come over? He cannot come in the room." Something else that could've been solved AHEAD OF TIME!!! I am a calm person and I stormed out of that office fuming! I immediately made an appointment with another allergist, and will never recommend this office to anyone! In my opinion, the office staff has poor communication and Dr Meltzer doesn't listen (and not just bc he's partially deaf!). He likes to write prescriptions and cover the problem rather than try to solve it. After 9 months, and 5 appointments, we are at the same place we were on the first day, minus several hundred dollars in office bills and steroid creams. UPDATE: After walking out of the office I am just now receiving a BILL for the visit and allergy testing we DID NOT EVEN DO!! Lowering down my stars even more. I am in disbelief by this!! read more

We have been seeing Dr. Meltzer for the last year and I truly feel SO blessed to have him as my son's allergist. I am in the medical field and for that reason am very particular with whom we see...especially when it comes to my children. Dr. Meltzer got referrer to us by some of my associate medical physicians. I knew he was busy and there was a long wait list as he also does teaching and research...that is what the brilliant and compassionate minds do. We seemed out Dr. Meltzer because when my son turned 6 months old he started having severe food allergy reactions which we soon discovered, with the help of Dr. Meltzer, was a rare condition called FPIES. Dr. Meltzer was so kind that he extended his hours just to see us. He thoroughly listened to my sons history and spend an extended amount of time making us feel heard and cared for. He helped us come up with a game-plan and put my worries and concerns to rest. He is extremely knowledgable and passionate about the work he does and the patients he cares for, in addition to being brilliant, knowledgeable, compassionate and even having the talent of making balloon animals, which makes my sons day! My son is now 18months old and we have scaled back to seeing Dr. Meltzer only every 6 months now as he is doing so well. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Meltzer. We LOVE Dr. Meltzer. It took us a while to find an allergist who shared my values of not over-treating and over-medicating children. His schedule is busy but he's worth waiting for so allow time and book early. I appreciate how transparent he is and how thoroughly he explains things with diagrams. He is a good listener and takes time to respond to all my questions. My kids love him because he is kind, funny, and he knows how to relate to children. Dr. Meltzer has treated both my daughters for allergy related skin, ear, sinus and cough symptoms and ALL of his treatments have been SO MUCH SIMPLER than what he had been prescribed by other doctors AND MORE EFFECTIVE. We are sooooo BLESSED to have DR. Meltzer for our sons Eczema condition. Our son has had severe eczema since he was 6 months old. He is now 5 years old and it is more controllable. WE spent endless nights not sleeping until he was 3 years old. ( due to his itching and crying he wouldn't sleep through the night) I was crying and emotional wreck seeing our son suffer everyday/night. We had to change our entire lifestyle.. ex: I couldn't wear purfume,changed laundary detergent for the entire family to ALL Clear ( no perfumes or dyes) he had to be covered at all times, not be in hot sun to long( always with a hat) baths couldn't be every day. WE changed our water in the house (water softner that now has salt in it) We use VANICREAM products, such as lotions,bath soap,shampoo/conditioner and the special oil for bath time from vanicream. WE give him Hydroxizine 3 times a day..these are just some of the things we have done/ anyhow we just had to change EVERYTHING we do in order for his eczema to be manageable. I finally got to Dr. Steven Meltzer and after one visit my 5 year old son is back to Normal. He is amazing! He was very patient and listened to all my questions and concerns and addressed each one of them and if that's not all enough he has a great bedside manner and he is very wonderful with my son and makes him feel very comfortable. We moved to Long Beach from Pasadena three years ago and my family's allergies really acted up trying to acclimate to the damp (and much cooler) weather. Dr. Meltzer came highly recommended by neighbors, friends and other doctors in the area. I actually had to see a pulmonologist first and when he saw that this was severe allergies, he referred me to Dr. Meltzer. It was tough to get in initially (he is in high demand) but we waited patiently for our first appointment. I had been diagnosed with mold & mildew allergies decades ago when I was in 4th grade but found I have a new allergy to dust mites as well. My daughter (4 years old at the time) was diagnosed with a specific mold allergy. She developed a slight asthmatic condition during the heat and Santa Ana's (this mold travels with the winds). Her reactions can come with scary surprises (wheezing and bright red face) when I would pick her up from camp. Coincidentally, she had an appointment with him after her first day of camp that year. His treatment was swift, clear and highly effective. She has had no flare-ups since that time and we now follow-up with him every six months. She has a maintenance program she follows with her meds/sprays used only as needed. If we hadn't started treatment as early as we did, my daughter's situation could have escalated into a much bigger issue that would have taken longer to correct. Our situation was alarming enough that we were thinking of moving back to Pasadena if we couldn't get it under control. We are super happy with Dr. Meltzer and thankful we found him. He listened closely to my concerns and my daughter feels very comfortable with him (she actually likes going). He and his staff have always been kind and professional. I decided to start weekly shots again (like I did in 4th grade because they worked well for me) so I am in the office a lot. Many patients in the waiting area are regulars I see weekly for injections. They are always smiling and joking with the staff as they wait. I was completely shocked to see any bad reviews. This is our third year with Dr. Meltzer and the only bad thing I could come up with was an unpleasant parking situation in the lot while there was a remodel going on in their building last year, and even then, there was plenty of street parking. read more
