They don't know what they are doing and tell you there's no medicine they can help you with urgent care helped me that's just sad

My husband and I have enjoyed the medical care and attention that we have received for the past 3 years.

I scheduled my annual physical with my doctor about 4-5 months in advance. When I arrived, I was surprised that a Nurse Practitioner came in instead of the doctor I had specifically booked with. While the NP is excellent (I've seen her before for other issues), I was disappointed because I had intentionally made the appointment with the doctor. After the visit, I called the office to clarify what I thought was a scheduling mistake. The receptionist told me that because I had already seen the NP, I couldn't have another physical, and the next appointment with the doctor wouldn't be available for another 4 months. When I explained that I had scheduled with the doctor in the first place, she was dismissive and said, "Well, I'm not the one who scheduled you." She refused to help me further. When I asked to speak with the office manager, I was told she was on vacation and "doesn't have an email." Later, the NP herself called me (which I appreciated) and helped arrange an appointment with the doctor in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, when I showed up at 8:00 a.m. for that appointment, the receptionist (who I believe was the same as before) told me there was no record of it and that I would need to schedule a new appointment. I explained that the NP had helped me set up the appointment due to a previous error, and her response was, "The NP doesn't make appointments." I asked her to please go speak directly with the doctor before telling me he wouldn't see me (which she initially refused to do), but the doctor still refused to come out or see me. I felt this was extremely unprofessional, especially since this was his office's mistake again. Once again, the office manager was said to be "on vacation," making her unavailable. Between the repeated miscommunication, lack of accountability, the receptionist's rude behavior, and the doctor's unwillingness to address the situation directly, I felt this office does not prioritize patient care or respect patients' time. (See other reviews about the office staff). The NP is wonderful (which is why this isn't a 1-star review), but the front office staff is unprofessional and unreliable. I have since contacted my insurance and switched primary care providers. read more

Just a review of the front desk staff that answered my call. The receptionist was unkind and unhelpful. When I tried to call to see when the soonest availability was she promptly cut me off while I was speaking to give me another dr.s office number because she misheard me but wouldn't let me get a word in to tell her this IS my office and I usually see Dr. Clayton Dejong. Finally she gave me a moment to interject before trying to hang up on me and I let her know. She was not apologetic at all. She was extremely unhelpful when it came to finding the next open appointment time. Would literally not offer me any alternative dates or times and seemed like she was trying to just get me off the phone. I will be switching my primary. Didn't get her name but I should have. I have moved around quite a bit for jobs and my education, so I was really happy to finally be able to settle down for a bit and have consistent providers. I've been going to this lovely clinic for over the past 2 years and finally got around to leaving a review. I initially saw Dr. Clayton a couple of times, who was great. I then switched to Dr. Tyler as his schedule worked better with my schedule and I've been seeing him consistently for a while. Dr. Tyler is kind, compassionate, responsive, and open to any and all questions. He's also extremely thorough and has a great bedside manner. Kim is one of the best nurses that I have had. She is very caring, detail-oriented, and excellent at what she does. The rest of the office staff is also awesome. They are quick to process referrals, great at getting me in when I need to be seen, and I have never had to wait long to be seen. I am so grateful that I found this office. I feel heard and understood in every visit, and every time I leave the clinic I feel confident that I am receiving the best care. If you want to feel like a cash cow and never get any real answers then this is the office for you. The front desk is unhelpful at best and downright incompetent at worst. Referrals and prescriptions maybe forgotten at the end of your appointment and you can forget about trying to go back and get them at no cost to you. You're definitely going to need another appointment for that prescription that slipped through the cracks. You can forget about front desk trying to work with you to make sure that your insurance goes through. They've been doing it for 25 years so you're definitely wrong. The first couple of appointments might go really well and make you feel like they know how to listen to your needs and take care of their patients. Just wait till the third appointment if you want to feel like nothing but a source of income. I've been to a lot of doctors over the years and this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. In between the front of house staff and the way that Dr Clayton has the tendency to treat you like a burden on his time (although eager to take that money!) you'd be better off seeking health care from a personal injury attorney. Dr Tyler is a decent doctor with good bedside manner. Unfortunately he's mired by his practice and a support staff. I would see him again if he moved to a new practice. read more

This office is fantastic. Ever since I moved from NY 16 years ago, I was referred to Dr. DeJong's office. I have had nothing but great service and sincere interest in wanting to keep me informed and on top of my health. Dr. DeJong and the rest of his staff are friendly and genuinely listen to my concerns and provide excellent clinical advice. Dr. Tyler Dejong is a superb doctor that I am pleased to have met. Patient, answers my questions and explains. The fact that he takes time to listen and answers my questions means a lot when determining a good doctor. Elena, the Practitioner deserves an A grade as well including the LVN I believe she is, professional, polite and friendly. As for the front office, a D grade. After reading all the other reviews, I agree with the negatives unfortunately. Upon entering the clinic, Dr. Tyler Dejong's check-in is at the window to the left. This is the part I dislike about having to see Dr. Dejong. The lady at the window, well... lets just say I wish I can avoid her. Worst facility ever! Beware! This clinic tries to charge you more than your copay and for every little thing possible. They will charge to read your results instead of giving you a courtesy call. And when I asked to see a doctor they gave me a nurse instead who not only was unqualified, she's not a doctor!!! So why pretend she is? Very unethical and they deserve every official complaint coming their way. I highly encourage others to file complaints so they can stop getting away with their unethical practices. I highly recommend not wasting your time and going somewhere ASAP. read more

We would like to provide Dr. Clayton De Jong and Dr. Tyler De Jong, as well as their entire office staff, with the highest possible recommendations for primary medical care in Long Beach California. We also recommend their nurse practitioner, Sarah, for providing expert medical advice to us as well. We are both retired and have been fortunate to have Drs. De Jong as our primary care physicians for a number of years now. We always receive excellent medical advice and treatment from them when we have medical problems. We have never had to wait more than a very few minutes to see them when we have an appointment, and do not have to wait very long to get an appointment. When blood or urine tests are necessary they are often performed on-site so that we don't have to go to the trouble of having them done at a different laboratory. Linda, Dina, and the entire office staff are extremely efficient. Appointments that we make are rarely canceled. We highly recommend these primary care physicians and their entire office staff. Ms. Linda can be terse but I don't think she does it intentionally, it is so very hard to teach an ole "not dog" cause that would be highly disrespectful, but you get my point. While I did notice her customer service skills weren't sugary she is polite to a extent "in person" and I like the young Dr. Dejong (its a father son thing); he is personable and he appears to know his stuff...there are a lot of degrees on the wall. The only thing preventing a higher rating is the referral I got for a specialist is messed up but I think that has more to do with the health care system being a crap shoot than any incompetence on the office staff's part & Ms. Linda is a tough nut... but like I said a "woof-woof" can't change to "arf-arf" when they have been barking like that for several decades. read more

Great staff!!! I has my first visit today and I cannot give enough praise to this office. Despite being shot handed at the front desk, the receptionist greeted me, was nice and never once made me feel like she didn't have time to answer any question I had. The nurses listened to my concerns, had advice for dealing with my allergies, explained the tests they were running and is referring me to a specialist. And for the first time in my life, I found a doctor that is gathering my past medical history from my previous doctors. I actually felt like I was being treated as a human being instead of a bug that is being shooed away. read more

Great Doctor! I have been going to Dr. Dr Jong for well over 10 years and when I visit him he always comes across concerned for what is going on with me. I have referred others to him through the years and they feel the same way I do. Iv been a regular patient with dr Dejong for years, iv always thought he was good.... but today I found a whole new respect for him, I have been sick for 3 weeks and out of the blue started to feel a different Serius condition that really scared me... he actually listened, answers and comforted me and took time to listen ( probably getting late for next patient) , he made me feel that I hopefully would get better ,he grew from a care giver to an healer... also I needed to say that Sarah that answers the phone from time to time not Linda always calls me back when I'm in need and tries to fit me in and help with answers or anything I need your a doll read more

I am new to this doctor and this office. I was with my last doctor and her practice for 10 years or so and can honestly say, great move. For some reason I have had a lot of little ailments lately (getting older I guess) and have had no trouble making appointments to be seen. The office has even helped get me in for sonograms and ultrasounds. They were able to talk someone into taking me a month before my appointment was scheduled. AMAZING. My old doctor couldn't even remember if I was on medication, and once, gave me the wrong injection altogether. This office is small, extremely clean and convenient. Not being in a huge complex, they have their own parking lot, at a really convenient location. Crappy magazines though, but you don't have to wait very long anyway. So far, I love it. read more

You always get in at scheduled appointment time (no hours of waiting in waiting room) they treat you like a human being and you get in and out quickly so you can get on with your day. The office has always been very professional, prompt, and courteous, and Dr. Dejong has been very helpful and given me answers to all the questions I ask. Expect to be treated like a grownup - he gives you information and lets you make your own decisions with it. Switched Doctors after Kristen Dark MD was less than stellar. I haven't seen Dr. Dejong, but have seen is Physicians Assistant and she is WONDERFUL! Spends oodles of time addressing your concerns, called me in to go over my blood work (a doctor has never done that), and is just a very down-to-earth doctor with a great bedside manner. Plus, the office is close to my house. Win-win all around. read more

I have been seeing Dr. DeJong for about 17 years now. I have never had any complaint. His staff is amazing, Linda the receptionist is amazing and always fits you in if you need to be seen. Sara gets all my all my authorizations done immediately and answers all my questions. Dena (the vampire) is such a lovely lady. Follows up with everything. Dr. DeJong is an amazing doctor. He is very patient and addresses every concern so patiently. He doesn't waste anytime with referrals, he gets answers quickly. My husband also sees Dr. DeJong and is very pleased with him. My spouse and I have been patients since Dr. Dejong took over the practice from Dr. Bowton 20+ years ago. Attentive, caring, involved, and compassionate physician. Always takes the time to listen to the issues and time to explain what's going on, treatment options, pros/cons, and referrals to specialists have been outstanding. Greatest compliment I can offer is Dr. Dejong treats the whole patient, not just the ailment - that really does matter~ Fabulous bedside manner, never feel rushed, and his office staff has been with him for quite a few years. Great staff... but Dr. De Jong is an awful doctor and should not be practicing medicine. On top of his rudeness and blatantly homophobic attitude, he has no bedside manner, is impossible to speak to and treats you like you're bothering him during a visit. His office staff is horrible, the one that answers the phones to be exact. She needs to retire or wake up in a better mood, she's too old for the job . If you answer the phone please sound pleasant and not annoyed because you woke up another day. She doesn't even tell my doctor i call with a concern or my coworker, because were both under his care. We never met the doctor I miss the P.A that left (her husband is also a doctor) she's the reason I would go (2 years ago) both my coworker and I changed doctors, too bad because it's his staff that give Dr. Clayton a bad name... This is a very different experience than I've had elsewhere. I've been seeing Dr Dejong for over 4 years now and couldn't be happier. I'm surprised to read reviews stating that he has no bedside manner. I've never experienced that during any visits. He has always been receptive to anything I've brought to his attention, and he's always given me plenty of his time. I've never been made to feel like I was wasting his time. I also enjoy being able to see him at my actual appointment time instead of 45-60 mins after the scheduled time. I don't ever bother even picking up reading material in the lobby. Dr Dejong is great and I hope he stays around for a long while read more
