Richard Van Vooren recently had lab work done at Quest. A urinary infection was found. I called the office to have them send the lab reports to his urologist. Instead, we get a call that medication was sent to CVS for him from Dr. Samawi's office. Marie went to pick up the medication. CVS said that Ciprofloxacin was shown on their lab reports as a medication that was not to be used as record of causing a rash. Our records show that a former urologist had stopped him from continuing its use because it made him sick. He was then given Amoxicillin by his Urologist, which was okay. Edit: updating prior review as my concerns were taken on board and resolved very quickly. This was really appreciated as it meant I was able to meet the deadline mentioned below. The staff were apologetic for the delay, and as mentioned below Dr Samawi is great. Dr Samawi himself is lovely, very professional and makes you feel at ease and comfortable. I am upset to be leaving this review as I hope the situation gets rectified, however unfortunately I have had a terrible experience with his staff. I was due to receive my medical exam results last week, however I wasn't contacted so I called the office to request an update. I was told the results were back but the paperwork was not filled out yet. No problem I understand everyone gets very busy. I called back a few days later to inform the office I have a deadline to submit the results to the US government by the end of this week, (at the time of writing this review), and I was promised I would have the paperwork and could collect it before that deadline of submission. I was given a specific date (today), I arrived at the office to be informed that they did not have the paperwork completed and the dr was out the rest of the week so I won't have it until Monday. I made the trip with my new baby to the office and was not even called to be notified the results weren't ready to save myself the trip. I left the office in tears as I have a submission deadline that now can't be met, and the nurse was rude and unhelpful telling me "what do you want me to do", "can you not request an extension". I have been promised the results on Monday, and I am hopeful this can be resolved. By the time I get the results it will have been 3 weeks after my medical exam. read more

Been coming here all my adult life (I'm 28), and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Dr. Samawi's staff is efficient, polite, and respectful. Maria always has my back when it comes to "authorizations", she kindly extends/resubmits them when I forget to promptly make my appointments with specialists before they expire. The front desk lady is on it! She's quick and knowledgeable. I hardly ever have to wait more than 10 minutes in the lobby to be seen which is awesome! The doctors are great. I used to see Dr. Samawi, he's cool. But my go-to for the last couple years has been Corinne Kaveny, PA. She is the most amazing doctor. She's compassionate, professional, and a clear communicator. I appreciate her listening to my concerns, and I've had many-a-silly concern. But, no matter what, I always leave with my mind at ease, feeling heard, and optimistic! It's by appointment only, and I think they might have stopped taking new patients at one point, but if you're looking for a new general practitioner, it's worth finding out! 10/10. read more

I have been coming to Dr. Samawi for years. He is so knowledgeable and truly cares. All of his PA's have also been just as great. My only complaint is that it seems to have become increasingly difficult to get a hold of someone to make an appointment. When I call their number, I can never get a hold of anyone and have to wait for a call back. I would say this is the only negative I have experienced with Dr. Samawi's office. Once you finally do get a hold of someone they usually have appointments relatively soon so that is also a plus. read more

I don't have a primary Dr but found Dr Samawi while I was checking reviews in the area. The staff was generous, prompt and communicated well. Dr Samawi was EXCELLENT. He is extremely thorough and took the time to listen and provide very specific recommendations. I was only in for a basic checkup and blood work but he went above and beyond to provide additional advice. Nice to know there are still Drs who really do care about everyone who walks in the door. read more

Dr. Samawi seems pretty good, but his office staff couldn't care less. It was discovered I have extremely low iron, blood transfusion low...the Dr. I guess recommended iron pills, but when I asked one question I didn't hear back from them for a whole 24 hours and they never put any meds in for me. I'm sitting here 5 days after I found out my blood is so low that I need an infusion/transfusion and they still haven't put the meds into the pharmacy for me... there has been incidents where they left the phone on their lunch messages many hours after lunch so you couldn't contact the doctor. They lost my insurance information or better yet never put it in and made it seem like I never provided it to them...yea the doctor is fine but the staff will let you die waiting for meds. I went to another doctor to get the pills... read more

Great experience in Dr. Samawi's practice. I went to his office during Covid-19, so it was limited hands on experience. I went for a annual physical and pretty much everything was conducted through typical bloodwork and urinalysis. All was good, except for my detected hernia (which I already new I had and he confirmed) which he was quick to refer me to Dr. Tatum in Los Alamitos. Huge mistake going to Dr Samawi! I had free of charge physical exam annually, so I went to do it. His staff draw my blood on full stomach, they did not even ask if I had breakfast. Results came bad, Dr was referring to some lever damage, without even taking look at my chart to see my age and weight, did not even bother to ask me anything before coming up with conclusions. He demanded new blood work, just, this time, I was charged for that, CAUSE THEIR MISTAKE! WOW, WHAT INCOMPETANTE DOCTOR'S OFFICE! Where should I start? First of all, I've been a patient of Doctor Samawi for a year already. He's been the best doctor I've had by far. Honestly. He really sits and listens to you without just misdiagnosing you. He's one of the doctors I've had that I feel he does care about his patients and doesn't just look at the as a number or $. His staff and MA is soooooo nice and friendly. I've had doctors and offices I've visited in the past and NO ONE tops this one. I hate going to the doctor but with him, Jesus, I actually look forward to it. Which is so weird for me to say that. Never have I had to wait to see him for more than 15 min. The providers are ok but whenever you get blood work done you have to follow up or else you never find out your results. It's pretty annoying to call and you still have to wait until they call you back. Sasha the office staff is rude. Anytime you call and she answers you are put on a long hold, never returns calls, and says to call back at later time since they are swamp or short staff. read more

My fiancé has been busy with work, so he asked me to call and make him an appointment with Dr. Samawi for a check-up. When you call to make an appointment, your call is sent to some kind of phone center. They take down your name and number, and tell you that someone will call you back to schedule an appointment. It's been 2 days, no call back. Not impressed. Not going to this doctor anymore. First impressions are everything, and Samawi and his team failed. read more

What was I thinking with 4 stars?! I cannot say enough good things about Dr Samawi and his wonderful staff, who are SOooo 5 star worthy! Felt the beginnings of an infection coming on and luckily this morning they were able to get me in (same day!). I don't have insurance at the moment, so Dr Samawi took a look and then hooked me up with money saving alternatives (over the counter meds WAY cheaper than any Rx). I love the man's forethought.. he's not one of those drug pusher docs that doesn't think about the future effects of what he's prescribing you. If he sees a way for me to not have to take pills to fix a problem he's always suggested that first, which I totally appreciate. Though sometimes it simply can't be helped, and in those cases we discuss treatments that would have minimal effects, if any, in the long run. I really just love having a Dr that knows his shit and that I can talk to and be honest with without feeling like I'm talking to my parents. I've had dr's in the past that I just couldn't tell the (whole) truth to because I didn't feel like getting one of 'those' talks.. but Dr Samawi isn't like that at all. He's honest and will tell you what's up truthfully, but it's not a lecture. It's more of a 'cause and effect' type of convo. Very refreshing! read more

Finally.. out of Kaiser and the search for a new PCP began in January. Being out of my meds for 3 months... I finally sucked it up and started the hunt. Well, hunt no more! This little lady found her a doc! I saw Dr. Samawi today and am already hooked like a fat kid is to candy. I absolutely was blown away with the time he spent with me during our meet and greet if you will. I came prepared with a list of my medications, medical history and past surgeries to help speed things up. I thought he was only going to spend 15-20 mins with me. It was more like 45 mins or more. I also brought him a diagram of my hand and pain points... He actually read the entire list and commented on my diagram! He is one cool cat and makes you feel right at home and comfortable. We have an action plan and I'm looking forward to checking things off! I've never been to an MD office where I didn't have to WAIT... remarkable. After I paid my co-pay, the MA was showing me to my room and started vitals. Everyone was professional and the office was quiet.. which is a great thing for me. I had my blood draw on sight.. didn't have to go anywhere and left a urine sample... one stop shop.. my kind of place. Unlike my Kaiser nightmares... I don't believe Dr. S is about any bullshit games.. he just wants to heal. Pretty excited to have a new PCP and one that honestly cares and listens. He has great eye contact and doesn't space off or start typing while you are explaining symptoms. If you're in need of a new PCP... give him a try. He will blow you away with the level attention he provides and bedside manner. Co-pays due at the time of visit.. accepts credit cards - he is on the 10th floor FYI Parking structure is easily accessible and they accept all CC's - even Amex - no validations from his office. read more

Doctor Samawi has been my grandmothers doctor for I dont know how long but from what my relatives and my grandma says...she appreciates what he does and how he helps... The staff could be alot more patient and be more informative but as for Dr. Samawi...he is very helpful with my grandmas health and well being. read more

It took me forever to pony up and find a new PCP after moving to LB a few years ago. Thanks to Yelp, I've had great success finding all sorts of new docs in the area--Dr. Samawi being one of them. He talked to me...for a while. Now that's something I'd never experienced: a doctor who took his time to introduce himself and listen to me while I blabbed on and on about my own medical history and concerns. I found myself asking him questions about things I'd never think to come up with before because I was so used to getting the quick once over by doctors and having them leave the room as quickly as they entered it. He was...human. I was also surprised that it didn't take me weeks to get an appointment to see him. I had my first visit, blood work, and analysis visit all within the span of a couple weeks. I'm mean, um, who does that? One other amazing thing: he cleaned out my ears himself. If you've never had your ears cleaned by a medical professional, you have NO idea what you're missing. I told him how I feared I was losing my hearing at a young age in my left ear. He took a peek, turns out there was a just a bunch of gunk in there that had built up. He recommended I either come back for another visit to do this flush treatment that was painless, or he could remove it on the spot in a slightly painful, but rapid procedure. I was like, let's just get it over with. He went in, it hurt a bit (I won't lie), he pulled out a whole bunch of goop, and in seconds, it's like I had super-human hearing strength. Dr. Samawi is by far the best primary care physician I've ever had. Not only did he physically examine me, but he went into detailed explanations of every complaint that I came to see him about. My previous doctor did neither of those. The nurses and the reception staff go above and beyond also. They are all exceptional nice, as I saw firsthand how they treated a patient who was being very rude to them. In fact the only downside is that you need to pay for parking. This averages from $2-$5 and more. However, this is to be expected from Dr. who maintains an office in a hospital. I couldn't be more pleased to have found Dr. Samawi! read more

Came in for my second visit in a few weeks. He had great suggestions for saving me money, since I don't have insurance right now. He gave me samples for my allergies and gave me names of places with the cheapest drug prices. Don't hesitate to go see him. I came in 5 minutes early and by the time I choose a magazine, they called me in. Dr. Samawi came in 2 minutes after that. Yes! I finally found a general practitioner willing to listen, educate, and spend sufficient time with me (the patient). Similar to the doctor I had for close to 20 years (she closed her practice, and went into concierge medicine). Plus, he's honest, and makes no pronouncements "from the mount," and encourages questions. True, it was my first visit, but he spent almost an hour with me. Good start. read more

This office is amazing, I've seen the PCA Corinne twice and she is so thoughtful and supportive. The staff seem genuinely concerned and helpful. Also reasonably punctual with taking you in at your schedule appt time compared to most offices I've visited in the past. They take their time with you and make sure you're fully informed. I went in for a women's exam and had come down with a terrible flu, they were able to do both the exam and access my current illness no problem. Overall incredibly happy with my experience and I look forward to staying their patient! read more

Three years in to seeing Dr. Samawi he told me of some abnormal blood test results and referred me to a Hematologist. Since this was a follow up to testing three weeks earlier I asked how there could have been such a change in such a short time. It turns out I've been getting these results for over two years, during which time he kept telling me everything is fine, your bloodwork is normal, even when this result was even higher than it is now. Scans are showing things nobody wants growing in at least two organs that might have been growing for a couple of years. Needless to say I'm enraged and looking for another doctor. His new PA is excellent and thorough, so I am only dealing with her now. read more

I originally CALLED the office to make an appointment for annual physical exam. I asked them specifically whether I was in network and make sure it's a no-cost annual check up. During the visit, I told them I had skin irritation (after they asked if I had any other concern, ok sure...). The nurse practitioner then checked my lump and told me I only need antibiotics for that. I then proceeded to have the blood and urine tests. Before leaving, I asked them again how much do I own them. They said don't worry about it. 1 month later, I received two bills: one for the office visit which was more than $150, the other one was lab work bill for the tests that I did during my visit. I called the lab and they said it wasn't preventive cares; therefore, I had to pay for them. I then called the office and voiced my concern. They said because I complained about the skin irritation, the physical exam now changed into an office visit and that's why I was billed for a sick visit. I WAS NOT informed and MOST CERTAIN that my lab work has nothing to do with that lump! NOBODY has informed me about the situation, I was under the impression I was getting a no-cost physical exam. They refused to come to any solution to resolve this UNFAIR visit. They even said "next time you should call the insurance before you came in." What kind of service is that? Such scammers! The Lab works had nothing to do with my skin irritation and I ended up paying for that and the overpriced office visit. The nurse practitioner then said "even if it's your first time visit, you still have to pay for this and that." Well, your staff made sure NOT TO TELL people that before they come in! Doctors are supposed to help people, not trick them into paying more money to make them richer. Have some human decency and integrity please! What a bad experience. No related lab work, no tissue taken, low tech medical devices, and no informative staff. I would never EVER go back there. Please make this a lesion for yourselves. Don't get scammed! read more
