Needed something simple -- an new tire. They cannot do this. I kid you not. A common tire that can be obtained anywhere. Installed. Maybe they are small and cannot handle things a larger places can, but really. The other problem was the person who answered the phone. Please, do not put someone at the front desk, answering phones, who both has an accent and cannot project their voice. This is a poor choice. I had to ask 3 times for her to repeat so I could understand at all. Maybe there are things that they are good at; I will never know or try to find out. But I don't move forward when there are red flags from the start. I am also now wondering if their reviews are real, about the incredible level of service, blah blah blah. read more

this place attempted to charge me 700 to 800 dollars to change a drivers side mirror. I refused to pay that much and immediately left. I was able to pick up the part for less than a 100 dollars and install it myself. other quotes put me in the sub 300 range as well. I have a 12 year old Honda civic. absolutely absurd pricing. I initially took my car to the dealership and was quoted a price of $2500 where the parts were just under $50. I purchased the OEM parts online and proceeded to take my car to Independent where they verified the repair was needed. I requested the repair be made and advised the mechanic the parts needed were in the back of the car. They reduced the price they quoted by value of the parts and completed the repair for $550. This establishment is run very well and honestly. I've taken four of my vehicles to be serviced here and work is always done in a timely manner for a fair price. read more

This unassuming 'lil shop is nestled away on one of the busiest streets (Ritchie Highway) in Glen Burnie. If you blink or cough ... forget about it. You missed it. But if you have the good fortune to actually see the sign (swallowed up by all the marquees surrounding it), PLEASE turn right in ... This is, by far, the best place I have taken my car in years! My car is well seasoned [read: older model (2002)] so, I no longer go to Honda for repairs unless I am desperate and gave money to throw away (nuff said ... I don't go). I've tried mechanics here & there. Some were okay and some just 'ripping me a new one ...' in costs - and for inferior work. Then I remembered, co-worker had her Honda 'kitted' out, so I figured I'd ask... She said, "Oh, you don't go to Hondaman? You are crazy! Trust me, u won't be disappointed". When she told me where Hondaman was located ... I was really scratchin my head, thinkin' it sounded kinda outta the way. Her reply...? "Okay, keep goin where you're goon now. Eventually, you'll go to Hondaman." Well, I called and Patrick (manager/owner, I dunno) diagnosed my car's issue over the phone. He suggested I bring it in to make sure that was the problem and when I got there; he walked me through all the steps. I can't even say when a mechanic did that, last. AWESOME!!!! I thought maybe I caught them on a good day. Well ... four years later.... I haven't taken my car anywhere else and actually about to leave the shop now (time for scheduled oil change). So, if you have a Honda, and you live in MD, you dumb if you don't check em out. The only downside would be the distance for some ... but trust me - it's well worth it. 04/12/11 UPDATE: I went in for an oil change (I was waaaaaaaaay behind getting that done. Hey, what can I say? I'm busy - shoot!) Anyway - I went in and the brakes started squealing a little bit. Told them once i got there and had my oil changed, brake pads replaced (not sure if it was front or back), windshield wipers replaced and headlight bulbs replaced (one had gone out). Took car for repairs. Seemed very honest and gave me a list of repairs and prioritized the list for me. Kept car 3 days with with limited communication about timing of the repairs. Got car back and broke down after driving about 7 miles. Have them the chance to fix again. Did a new repair. Kept car a couple days. My biggest complaint is the limited communication and not given any idea when car would be completed. read more

2006 Honda Accord EX V-6 Manual 106,000+ miles I did some major work under the hood this past summer when i hit the 100,000 mile mark. My car's been making a horrible high pitched whirring sound for the last 3 years (?). While I knew it was the power steering pump was the cause, I just left it since it wasn't too big of a deal, just had to keep filling the power steering fluid a lot but other than that sound, it was fine. One of my best friends used to do all my car work for me before this but since he is no longer around I was at a loss of who to go to. My dad's neighbor (hey, Mr. Foster) recommended Hondamans. Patrick is on top of his customer game, returning calls, keeping you updated on the car status and what kind of additional work your car might need. I never felt pressure to do any of the additional work, if anything, he told me it was all just superficial/cosmetic stuff and wouldn't move forward with it if he was me. I had my car back in less than 3 days and it sounds like new. Air was getting into the pump so it did have to be replaced and now, no more stiff steering wheel, crazy noises, or overflowing fluid. Definitely be back in for future maintenance. Highly recommended! read more

I brought my 2019 Ridgeline there because of faulty rear door latch, and they were able to identify the issue and resolve it at a very fair price and implemented a solution that works despite an after-market mod. I've been coming here for years for both my Hondas and my Mazda 3 because their prices are more than fair, but more importantly they don't try to sway you for additional and/or unnecessary services. Sure seems like the magic is gone. This place used to be amazing. They were affordable, honest, and only recommended work that had to be done. Seems like the golden age is over and recent experiences have been very disappointing. They have not fixed problems correctly, become more expensive, and make you feel rushed if you call. I have been bringing my Hondas to Patrick at Independent (aka Hondaman) for many years (20+) and I have had four or five cars in that time, all Hondas. They are the main reason I always buy Hondas and why my kids and others close to me buy Hondas as well. All cars get old and need service. It's nice to have a place to take your car for service where you can trust them to do what is needed (no more or less), do it right, and charge a fair price. That is hard to find. They recommend the work that is needed, get an Ok after discussion, and then the bill matches the estimate. I like not having to second guess whether I am getting ripped off. They are smart, honest guys and know how to run a good shop. They are consistently good - That's why they are always busy! read more

I don't have a Honda, but I have a vehicle that required attention. Now I have no doubt this is a 5 star joint!!!! Please take my review as merely observations. This place is freaking slammed busy. If you have a major problem, it's probably THE place to take it as everyone else is taking their car here so they have probably seen your problem before. However, they do not ask any probing questions about your problem. "How long has this been going on?" is a suggestion, but what do I know. You basically tell them your problem, no details and they take your keys and figure it out. So far my problem is resolved, but it was frustrating that I left feeling like my problem was not resolved and I will have to deal with it later. And the last observation is the waiting area stinks really bad. I could not sit in there as I am prone to migraines and did not want one to trigger, but it is not a good or even decent waiting area. They had a couple of tables and chairs outside and luckily the weather was nice or I would have been screwed. read more

Had a quote from Hondamans years ago for some CV joints, but didnt use them. Recently needed service on a 99 CRV that has had nearly zero need for repair. --which is probably why there aren't many reviews here. Hondas require little maintenance. Anyway, on time, under quote, friendly, correct service. Every business should take their queues from these guys on how to build a loyal customer base. My daughter now drives that 99 CRV. Guess who will be the only shop working on it (and the other Honda I have)? Not just repairs, they happily take drop ships of tires purchased on the web, and give packages deals for tires+alignement(which is normally required, when replacing tires). I use tirerack.com. The rest of the reviews are right, don't blink when you're driving up, but if you do, make the U-turn and go back. Simple Sands Deli is walking distance away and makes a great Italian hoagie. I will still change my own oil, but anything past that, to Patrick and crew at Hondamans it goes! read more

Independent Auto is an absolute gem in this community. I've been using them for 10 years or so for regular maintenance, major repairs and, more recently, for body work. They are scrupulously honest and often will suggest that you not do certain maintenance if they don't think it's needed. Their prices are very reasonable (compared to the dealership). As I recall, at one point they only worked on Hondas (when they were called Hondamans). At the time, I was so thrilled to have such an honest repair shop that this factored into my decision to only buy Hondas (seriously!). They now work on most car brands. I've been bringing my cars to Hondaman for years (as has my dad). Three years ago, I moved an hour away from Hondaman. Since then, I've been trying to find a mechanic in our area who is 1/2 as knowledgeable, service oriented, reasonably priced, and conservative in their approach, as Hondaman. The folks at Hondaman are straight shooters and I'm fully convinced that they have the customer's best interest in mind when they make recommendations. They don't compromise safety and will tell you candidly if something needs to be done, but they will also tell you if you can get away with letting something go awhile longer, or if there's a cheaper fix. They are great at differentiating between what is essential and what is beneficial! Twice, I've taken my car to a mechanic in my area to get my vehicles inspected and obtain an estimate on necessary repairs. Both times, I faxed the estimate to Patrick (with the competitors pricing blacked out) and asked him to review it, provide his pricing, and tell me if the recommended repairs looked legit. Both times, he pointed out questionable items on the estimate and explained why he thought they were questionable. Both times he provided pricing that was significantly less then his competitor. And both times, I made the decision to drive an hour to drop off my car at Hondaman. It is worth the drive! I recommend Hondaman to all of my friends and family! They are simply the best that I've ever come across...in Maryland or elsewhere! read more

Ended up being around $1050, and they were honest enough to let me know. I paid them $1150 just to say thanks and to keep them in business. My love/hate relationship with Hondaman continues. There was a point where I'd recommend them to anyone needing any type of car service. After this last ordeal, that is becoming less and less true. We had my wife's car in for an A/C repair. They fixed it for about 1500 (ouch) and we thought everything was good. Two weeks after the repair, the car didn't have cold air again. We brought it in and they fixed it no charge. About a month later the same thing happens. We drop it off on a Tuesday and were told repairs would be covered since we're loyal customers and it was recently repaired. They take all of Tuesday and ask to keep it an extra day. OK, no big deal. Wednesday goes by and they ask to keep it 1 more day for "tests". We can make do for one more day with only 1 car, even if it is a little difficult. Thursday comes and I call to see if it is ready. "Yes" the guy tells me, and then says the total due is over $200. I explain to him we were told on several occasions it would be covered under warranty. I'm transferred to the person I normally deal with who tells me they needed to install a different part that they believe was causing the problem. We were never notified of this and it worries me that they are installing parts on customers' vehicles without their permission. While it is "only" 200 (still a decent chunk of change), I wonder if they would have done it with parts costing more. With a quick phone call they could have described what was going on and told us that we needed a new part that costs approximately $200. That would have sat better with me than finding out after the fact that they installed a part and charged us for it without my permission. Perhaps even more of a slap in the face, at the bottom of the receipt it says something along the lines of- there is no remaining warranty on these parts, you will be charged for any and all future issues. Just what I want to hear from a mechanic...we fixed it, we think, but if not bring it back and we'll charge you again for something else. *Sigh* Hondaman, you've taken good care of me in the past, but this makes me wonder if the tides are turning. read more

Seriously it was one of the BIGGEST concerns when I moved that I would not be able to take my car to Hondamans. Oh, and when I was in MD I worked at a Honda dealership. I would take a half a day off work, drive clear to GB to get work done on my delSol and still save MORE money than I would have if I had had the work done at the dealership and stayed on the clock!!! I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX and they haven taken care of it since I bought it and have saved me tons of money. I took my car to a dealer for a recall and they checked out my car and told me I need $2000 worth of work. They made it sound like my car was unsafe to drive. I took it to Hondaman, gave them the list of repairs needed & they could find nothing wrong with it! They also helped me with a 93 Accord Wagon that I had passed on to my son. It had an electrical problem and he had taken it to a dealer and another mechanic and was ready to get rid of it. I had him take it to Hondaman - they found the problem, fixed it for about $150, and my son drove it for another five years and 150,000 miles. read more
