I always suffer with fibromyalgia and I need a very hard massage to relieve it. Today I got 30 min massage and Cindy is good. I came in today for a 30 min massage and once I arrived the host let me know they were booked for the next hour and asked if I can come back. I was in no pressure and ran some errands before. I came back an hour later and didn't realize they have a lot of parking in the back. So when returned I parked in the back and they have a back entrance. Once I was inside I checked in and the person in the front let me know I had to pay upfront. I changed my mind and wanted to do 45 min but the didn't have the time for it so I stayed with my 30 min session. The person in the front charged me and walked me to my room and I went to lay in the bed it was peaceful and quiet. Once my masseuse came in she saw me scratching my shoulders and said "oh, got it working on your shoulders". She went to work let me tell you! Initially, everything was great. The receptionist took our information, was very communicative, and helped us select the package that best suited our needs. Unfortunately, that's where things began to go downhill. My partner had a much more favorable experience with her massage therapist than I did. My therapist was clearly sick--a fact I brought to her attention during the session. While I understand that businesses have to operate through cold and flu season, having someone who is visibly ill working in such close physical proximity is concerning. Given that a massage therapist is frequently above, beside, and in direct contact with a client, I felt it was reasonable to request another therapist. When I asked if someone else could take over my session, my request was dismissed. The therapist continued without addressing my concern. I asked a second time if she could switch out with a coworker who wasn't sick, and the response I received was simply that my session was almost over. After our massages concluded--and after already spending nearly $140--I was met with an expectation that both therapists would receive a tip. I gladly tipped my partner's therapist, as she provided excellent service and earned it. However, I did not feel comfortable tipping my own therapist given the circumstances. When I explained my concerns to the receptionist, she responded by showing me a tip scale, which I politely declined. In my view, tips are earned through exceptional service; they are not automatic. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that the door was locked while this discussion was taking place and was only unlocked after I firmly declined to leave an additional tip. I have no issue rewarding outstanding service. What I do take issue with is feeling pressured into tipping after receiving what I considered subpar service--particularly from a therapist who appeared ill and, as it turns out, left me dealing with a cold afterward. I get there and was not greeted Then get asked if I have an appt and since it was for three she goes on to say she can only do two and we asked how long to wait for the third person and she says to wait till 7pm It was 5pm. This place is hit or miss. I went today for a massage and the lady that massaged me was strong (which I prefer), but she was very rough and sloppy. When she went to cover my eyes, she threw a rag over my face so I had to adjust it. Instead of massaging my scalp, she kept scratching it with her nails over and over and over then when it came to cupping, I didn't even realize she had them on until I heard the actual suction. Then she started massaging me with the cup, which was very painful. It was a horrible experience. Her name was Lucy and I'd never go to her again. It was obvious she didn't wanna be there. My first time at In Step Massage and unfortunately it was not a good experience. The environment was extremely loud and not relaxing at all. I could hear people constantly coming in and out, employees talking loudly in the hallway, and even a man next to me moaning very loudly during their session. It made the whole experience uncomfortable and the opposite of what you expect when getting a massage. The massage itself also wasn't great. I repeatedly asked the therapist to use less pressure, but she continued pressing extremely hard despite my requests. At the end I left a $5 tip because I felt the service was mediocre. After I had already left and was sitting in my car, the front desk employee actually came outside and asked me for a bigger tip. That made the situation even more uncomfortable and felt very unprofessional. Overall the environment, the service, and the way the tip situation was handled left a bad impression. Just got a couples massage my husband liked the lady that did his, she did okay for the most part he said. I think her name was Tina. Mine was horrible... it wasn't even a massage. She just did pressure on certain areas, not really rubbed and at times she put way too much pressure on certain areas. She might not be experienced in massaging women but I don't recommend the one that did mine. And she stood at the door waiting for a tip, I felt bad but honestly, I was just waiting in the time to go by quick. (Next day update) my back is super sore, and it feels tender in certain areas. Like other reviews mentioned, I have to agree that this place was far too noisy. Staff were chatting loudly, I could hear people constantly walking by, cars were honking, and car alarms kept going off. It honestly felt like being in Times Square in NYC. Because of the noise, I couldn't relax and felt tense throughout the entire massage. Another thing I found odd was that my massage started without any warning or introduction from the masseuse. She just began out of nowhere. Throughout the session, the pressure was also inconsistent---at times it was painfully strong, while other moments felt more like light caressing than an actual massage. I also want to mention that I specifically requested a foot and body massage, but only received a body and leg massage, which was disappointing. I didn't speak up during the session because, honestly, I felt uncomfortable and just wanted it to end. At the end of the massage, I tipped $10, which I felt was reasonable considering my experience, but my masseuse seemed almost offended by the amount. Overall, I will not be returning. read more
