My kids and I have been discussing replacing our minivan with a smaller car for years, but I loved…read moremy minivan (still do) and couldn't imagine parting with it. Over the past few months, my son and I searched for affordable used cars, test-drove cars, shopped around for a good trade-in price for the minivan, and even posted the minivan on Marketplace. Yesterday, as I drove off the High Street bridge and returned home to Alameda, instead of turning left, I drove straight to Diamond Auto's lot. I recognized my son's dream car by the enormous spoiler on the back. I took it for a test drive. I sat with Alex to discuss the price. Today, my son and I test drove the car. We sat with Alex to discuss the price and the warranty (3-months, which isn't much, but it's 3-months longer than any other warranty we were offered). We came to an agreement. I gave Alex the keys to my beloved minivan (which is now for sale, by the way), a lump sum on my credit card, and drove away in a sporty sedan. It wasn't just that we found the right car at the right price today. We found the right salesperson. Alex is supporting the local community as well as his own family. He negotiates directly and clearly. He speaks respectfully to middle-aged women and teenage kids. No gimmicks. No pressure. No confusing equations. Tell him what you need, and he'll tell you what he needs. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, no pressure. I enjoyed doing business with him.

Their website made it easy to narrow our choices down to three cars before we even arrived, which helped take a lot of stress out of the process. When we got to the lot, the atmosphere immediately felt comfortable. Someone greeted us, let us know he was available if we had questions, and then gave us time to look around on our own. The lot was packed with cars, but the team cheerfully moved vehicles around so we could compare our options. They showed us practical features you don't always see on a spec sheet, like trunk space, rear AC vent locations, and USB ports, which really helped us eliminate some options. We test drove two cars, reviewed their deals, and met with Alex, who gave us his card. When we mentioned we wanted to look at other options they were completely understanding and didn't pressure us or ask for our contact information. We stopped by the nearby Toyota dealership since our old car was a Toyota, but the prices there were noticeably higher, even for used models. Two days later, we returned to Diamond Auto to try one more car. Alex even let us take it home to make sure it could handle our daughters' softball gear and our camping equipment. That extra step made a big difference. Once we decided it was the right fit, the financing process was quick and easy. We grabbed bagels next door while the paperwork was prepared, and less than an hour later we were driving home in our new car. It's been a month since we made our purchase and the car has been running great! We event took a road trip from Alameda to Portland and back. We are still thrilled with our purchase and will definitely return to Diamond Auto in the future!

They referred my husband to a very reasonably priced warranty as well. There was an issue with the middle row seat belt being stuck. We have children so safety is our number 1 priority. They are having it fixed for us after the completed sale. This is on top of their already wonderful customer care and service. I highly recommend doing business here.

And the title to my car is still NOT in my name. I've texted him so much times and have called him so many times I've lost count and no answer back. I've gotten pulled over because of my registration which he said he paid for but did not. I had to pay an extra 400$ to get my registration tags. And still have to go through another process to try and get the title under my name because ALEX hasn't done it in over a year. He answered me 1 time in 10 months on the phone call and promised me he would do it and to call back to remind him. And again and again, ignored me after. Stayaway from them and especially away from ALEX. I strongly recommend that the own gets back to me or fire ALEX because he is not trustworthy and has pocketed my money for registration fees as well as not putting the title under my name. I'm In constant anxiety due to the problems ALEX has given me. Very shady guy and continues to ignore my calls and text messages.

I purchased several very inexpensive used cars from small dealers over the years as there are great…read moredeals to be had. I was interested in a car on this lot that dropped to half the original price in 3 months and couldn't get a response from two websites (Carfax, their own), phone or text, so my gf and I showed up on a Saturday morning. I was informed by the attendant that the car was stored off-site and he could not drive it as it had a manual transmission. The manager would bring the car from storage in a couple of hours. My gf and I drove almost an hour to get there, so we found ways to kill time (Oakland flea market, Crown Beach and a coffee shop across the street). Four hours later, the car finally arrived. I knew the vehicle was crashed from the photos posted, but the attendant did not share that it had been broken into. It not only had the absolute dirtiest interior I have ever seen in a car at a lot, there was broken glass everywhere, the stereo was gone, wires were hanging out of the dash and most of the HVAC controls were missing. I was surprised they would even show it in this sad state. Despite all that, I test drove it, without my gf who couldn't get in because of the glass all over the passenger seat. It drove well and I was assured they would fix the window and clean up the glass. When I followed up with the attendant a few days later via text, he shared photos of the repaired window and gave me an out-the-door price that was significantly more than expected. Remember, I have experience with these transactions, so I asked for an itemized list of the fees. That's when I balked. The last three cars I purchased, all from similar small dealers, were in the same price range and included the typical additional fees (document processing, smog, smog certificate, etc.). The total percentage of the tax, title and license, plus fees relative to the purchase price for those cars was 23%, 24% and 25%. Reasonable. When I calculated the total percentage Axum was charging over and above the purchase price, it was 39%. I shared a screenshot from the DMV website with the attendant that illustrated the estimated sales tax and registration fees at less than $400, yet he was quoting me $450 before their additional charges (for a total of nearly $600 on a car that wasn't even $1500). At this point, the attendant stopped being polite and curtly informed me that was the price and if I could not pay it, they could not sell the car. It was easy for me to walk away because I don't need a vehicle. Had I been in a different situation, I might have paid the inflated price. I checked the out-the-door cost for a different car on another lot yesterday. The percentage of the purchase price for TT&L, even with higher doc fees: 18%. I received a sincere apology from the owner for my less-than-ideal experience. Added a star for the follow-up/accountability and improved customer service.
