Been through dealerships from big franchise to little used car dealers like this place. I was baffled they asked to run my credit before even test driving the vehicle I saw on car gurus. Why risk a hard inquiry if you don't know if the vehicle is in great running condition after a test drive. Nobody wants a hard inquiry on their credit if they find something wrong after a test drive. Those hard inquiries last for couple years. The owner sounds like a douche and doesn't care about customers. What it sounds like he wants to do is trap you from buying a car since he already ran your credit check and mind you it's not just one lender they are sending your credit to, it'll be multiple lenders on your report that'll come up in your record. Why risk it? Credit isn't a joke, people like myself take that serious. Have customers feel confident first about the vehicle before making them do a huge decision in running there credit. Worst dealership I've been to. These Yelp reviews speak for itself.

My beautiful car matches my personality!

Best used car lot I have visited, The only hard part was deciding which car to get. They had all the information I asked for every car option they provided suitable to my needs. Very knowledgeable and patient with the buying process. Buying a car was for the first time easy and fun!

Stay away from this place. Customer service is horrible, etc. I don't understand how these places exist.

Reviewed the total price for the sale, the doc and selling fees added to the deal were fair and reasonable. The paper work was a breeze, although I was a cash buyer, so I cannot speak to the finance options. He did make me aware of the warranty options a few times but understood my desire not to purchase. In the end he helped with my two car logistics so I could get my new car were it needed to be. The thing that stood out the most about Cal West was their cars. My car was exceptional, low mileage, one owner, dealer serviced its entire life. As I looked at their inventory I saw the care they took in selecting their inventory. I did not see any cars on the lot that would be an automatic not buy. Quite the opposite everything I saw had strong consumer ratings no matter how old. Your mileage may vary but as someone in the business I would rate this independent used car business as way better than average. The fact that they have been in business for 45 years certainly says something about their ethics and business practices.

He stayed an hour after closing and managed to sell me the most perfect car ever. The entire selection looks like it is well maintained and well taken care of by Cal West. Within the week I had to take the car in to the shop for rattling when the AC was on. Turns out something was installed backwards. Within the second week the Apple Car Play started failing. I took it to the dealership, one of the gentleman came out and did a quick troubleshooting (deleted devices and added back). Fast forward to March 2026, Car play has FAILED. I take the vehicle for an oil change and find that the engine is failing, including an engine oil leak, coolant system failing. While trying to establish the validity of the warranty and find a good shop for the repairs the car has shut off in traffic twice, continues to run hot and the breaks are going out already. I have spent $600 on a rental car. I have reached out to San Leandro several times and spoke with Boris. The last of which he offered a discount on the rental which still totaled $600 for how long I will need the rental. I asked explicitly to speak with a Regional Manager about surrendering the vehicle and submitted an online complaint more than three weeks ago and no one is responding. I have also filed a complaint with BBB. And by the list of other complaints I'm not the first person sold a vehicle that they claim has been through a rigorous "certification" and inspection and the ENGINE is failing months later.

Over the past few months, my son and I searched for affordable used cars, test-drove cars, shopped around for a good trade-in price for the minivan, and even posted the minivan on Marketplace. Yesterday, as I drove off the High Street bridge and returned home to Alameda, instead of turning left, I drove straight to Diamond Auto's lot. I recognized my son's dream car by the enormous spoiler on the back. I took it for a test drive. I sat with Alex to discuss the price. Today, my son and I test drove the car. We sat with Alex to discuss the price and the warranty (3-months, which isn't much, but it's 3-months longer than any other warranty we were offered). We came to an agreement. I gave Alex the keys to my beloved minivan (which is now for sale, by the way), a lump sum on my credit card, and drove away in a sporty sedan. It wasn't just that we found the right car at the right price today. We found the right salesperson. Alex is supporting the local community as well as his own family. He negotiates directly and clearly. He speaks respectfully to middle-aged women and teenage kids. No gimmicks. No pressure. No confusing equations. Tell him what you need, and he'll tell you what he needs. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, no pressure. I enjoyed doing business with him.

Their website made it easy to narrow our choices down to three cars before we even arrived, which helped take a lot of stress out of the process. When we got to the lot, the atmosphere immediately felt comfortable. Someone greeted us, let us know he was available if we had questions, and then gave us time to look around on our own. The lot was packed with cars, but the team cheerfully moved vehicles around so we could compare our options. They showed us practical features you don't always see on a spec sheet, like trunk space, rear AC vent locations, and USB ports, which really helped us eliminate some options. We test drove two cars, reviewed their deals, and met with Alex, who gave us his card. When we mentioned we wanted to look at other options they were completely understanding and didn't pressure us or ask for our contact information. We stopped by the nearby Toyota dealership since our old car was a Toyota, but the prices there were noticeably higher, even for used models. Two days later, we returned to Diamond Auto to try one more car. Alex even let us take it home to make sure it could handle our daughters' softball gear and our camping equipment. That extra step made a big difference. Once we decided it was the right fit, the financing process was quick and easy. We grabbed bagels next door while the paperwork was prepared, and less than an hour later we were driving home in our new car. It's been a month since we made our purchase and the car has been running great! We event took a road trip from Alameda to Portland and back. We are still thrilled with our purchase and will definitely return to Diamond Auto in the future!

I asked him if there was anything that he was aware of that was not revealed in the CarFax or online description and photos. He assured me that everything was in excellent condition. Since I don't live particularly close, I hired a mechanic to go to the dealer and perform a pre-purchase inspection. I asked again if there is anything I should know before I spend the money, and he said "nothing, it's in great shape - a really clean car that needs nothing". The PPI revealed that the car was hit from the rear and it was obvious. The dealer told my mechanic they had tried to fix it themselves (not very well). So I spent $200 for a mechanic that I didn't need to if this guy was the least bit truthful. Perhaps I shouldn't expect these guys to be honest but gosh. I guess I'll just try and purchase from private parties going forward. This guy flat out lied to my face, don't trust a word he says and definitely get the car fully tested before purchasing. I know I'm stating the obvious, but there you have it!
