Been here a ton of times before and the service and food are always good. There's a great selection so everyone can always find something to eat. Today was the first time we ordered take out from here. Unfortunately the food was not up to par and there was food missing and wrong orders. Although we weren't happy with the meals we ate what we could and decided to call and let them know since we've never had a problem here before. They were so helpful over the phone and refunded us for the missing food and wrong orders. This is the kind of customer service there should be. Sometimes you have an off day but if you can apologize and make up for it, it can be forgiven. I'm not sure if I'd take out from there again but I'll be back to dine in for sure. read more

My daughter and her boyfriend took myself and my husband here for breakfast. It was good. The eggs are a good size and they are cooked perfectly -- especially the poached eggs. The corned beef hash was a little salty, but still very good. The sausages were good. The fries were good. The hash browns could have used a little more flavor. The prices have gone up but at least some of the quality has gone down. Somebody decided to change the wonderful, "cooked all day" barley soup to a "beefier" version by adding a crappy beef stock and chunks of tasteless beef. Barely paninied their (cold) panini, and other food was so cold it had to be reheated (we did takeout; the place is about a block away). A few months ago we ordered soft bacon which had to be sent back several times because it was overcooked. Except for the time it was raw. Paid $1.25 extra for spinach in a "create your own" omelette and got maybe 10 pieces of raw baby spinach. And-- no more bran muffins?! (yeah, old people food. I'm old. And their bran muffins were the best around.) We're gonna miss you, "Freeport Diner"! I was taken to this diner by a friend who is a salesperson trying for my business. It's right next door to the facility we had visited. Ordered the Miami Burger - sort of struck me as the Roy Rogers Double R Burger, but this was so much better! Angus beef burger, grilled ham, Swiss, pickle, mayonnaise, yellow mustard, bun pressed panini style to copy their menu. This diner was one of the best for me and i dont know when it went downhill. I probably will only go back when 8n the mood for diner only specialties such as a burger, triple decker, grilled cheese and anything greek. I went with a party of 6 and we all ordered something different. Someone ordered the pastrami on rye and it was so bad it had to be sent back, it was not even close and it was lightly heated and grilled on a flattop. Who does this, better off microwaved. We wondered what the corned beef would be like. I had the "special" as I wanted a salad with my meal. I asked for french dressing and was brought russian, hey there both orange right? My "special" was yankee pot roast, and when i think of that, i think of flaky pot roast with veggies like carrots, celery and potatoes mixed in. What i got was six slices of i guess was pot roast with plain gravy. Ugggh, i ate it, but barely and it was just ok with salt and pepper to help add flavor. I can continue with the other meals, but you get the point. The other issue i had was the bad service, or i should say, lack of. We had to ask everytime to refill our water, our waitress never checked on us once to see if we needed anything and we actually ordered dessert from another waitress, because we couldnt find ours after a long time waiting. Great diner near Jones Beach. Excellent food -- diner classic diner fare but also "fine dining" options -- ably executed with fresh ingredients and tons of homemade items. Also, trendy items like a beautifully executed Avocado Toast. Exciting cocktails list and separate bar area, great place to watch the game. This year, they just opened a large, covered but outdoor patio with spaced-out tables (how many diners have that??). Staff is very friendly and (mostly) knowledgeable about the menu -- nice kid's menu too.This is not your average diner grub, but rather a step above. Worth the trip! read more

I came here with my boyfriend for late night dinner and it was a great experience. I found this restaurant on yelp and I'm glad I came. It was so beautiful inside with classy decorations. The staff were all friendly and i felt very comfortable. My waiter was a nice Spanish young man and he assisted me very well. I had the carved turkey and mashed potatoes with chicken noodle soup. It was very tasty and decently priced. Also theres a big parking lot!!!! Loved this place! Gotta go! read more

I have lived in Jersey my whole life. I attended school in Manhattan and my current job takes me all over the tristate area each week. That said...i know my diners. This place was one of the best. By far the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever had. I love chicken salad but I am very picky about it. I require a perfect ratio of mayo to chicken and the celery needs to be small and not overdone. If I get a chewy piece of chicken it could scar me from eating it again for a year (this happened ) so I am choosy about where I will order one from. I felt solid about this place given the reviews as well as my observations of the food coming out of the kitchen past me. I went for it and it was a success. Amazing sandwich and I like that they don't include fries unless you want. You can pay less for any sandwich, wrap or burger and not get fries. Def not typical diner food. Out of towners from the other actual island of NYC, Staten ended up on Long Island and needed to grab a bite after playing volleyball on Jones Beach and stumbled upon Imperial. The diner is very clean and well maintained so that is always a plus. The coleslaw was very fresh and light in the coleslaw and pickles dish. Other than that the food is pretty standard for a diner. It gets the job done but nothing really blew me away. Three of us had burgers which were cooked well. The french fries rivaled those received in a NYC hot lunch. Meals came with watermelon and an orange slice which was a nice touch. If its late night and you are looking to grab a bite to eat, it will fulfill this role. read more

The food was fantastic and the prices wonderful! We went for breakfast and were in and out, but not rushed by any means. I commented to my husband several times on how FAST everything was. You could tell the food was cooked fresh but yet it came out in about 5-7 min after we ordered. Love these guys! The food is WAY better than typical Diner fare, the place is always clean and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I like seeing the same employees year after year--obviously a good place to work--when people like their jobs, they stay put. This is really a central hub in the Village Of Freeport--always see neighbors and friends there. Love seeing all the FHS kids go there for graduation dinners. Lots of celebrations of all kinds-- birthdays, etc. Really an upbeat atmosphere. And even though the whole village was devastated by Sandy, they opened right up--which really made things seem much more normal. Also: Best Turkey Burger you will ever eat. Hands down. read more

I come to this diner often. Well, at least I did. The older women host was rude,ran in front of me threw just a menu for my son on the table and walked away. I had to ask her twice for a menu. Then I heard her talking poorly about me. The waitress was nice mediocre service and the Spanish gentlemen that is always working is very nice. The food was on good as well. I always come here for brunch. They have great breakfast food and the service is fast and dependable. I came here at 11:00 AM and the place was packed. Even though it was packed the service remained speedy and I was able to score a table with only a 15 minute wait. I ordered the Garden Omelette. My only complaint is I asked for feta cheese and the waitress forgot to tell the chef. Always have a good experience here. I'm on a matzoh ball soup binge recently and honestly, I've had better. Broth was only warm and quite bland. I had a small (not so small, really) Greek salad- which was very good. Dressing was yummy. My friend had a $17 entree called the Greek chicken and it was outstanding. Definitely recommend it. I hate diners. I have done my best to avoid them my entire life. Everyone I know from Long Island likes their diners. I sort of wish they didn't exist. The diners, not my friends. But when I need to eat real food either way early in the morning or way late at night (and I don't feel like driving to the lower east side), this is the only acceptable option. I've kept them open before by walking in at 2am, but the guy who runs it late at night never seems to mind. If you eat here often enough, most of the staff will know and like you, and you'll probably want to come back over any other diner. The silverware and plates are always clean and spot free, and I've never had a less than decent meal here. Surprisingly, the more expensive dishes are actually really good and nicely plated, like the salmon and tilapia. All the main course salads are fresh and tasteful, and the omelettes are always perfectly cooked. I've never had meat or burgers here, but my friends love them. The fountain drinks are also really good. Mostly, though, it seems to be the only diner around which takes itself seriously as a restaurant, and that means they clean the place really well, the waiters are professional and courteous, the seafood is fresh (Freeport has a big working dock which I get my fish from a few times a week) and its just been renovated. Like I said, I hate diners. But I can always deal with this one. Oh, they also have those old-fashioned juke box players at each booth. read more

A great place to stop for lunch! This place is huge and was still packed to the brim on a Sunday afternoon. Our waitress was so kind and attentive. I got the Santa Fe chicken wrap which was almost exactly like a burrito but in a wrap. I really appreciated how much guacamole they gave you and the chicken was diced nicely. Fries it came with were crispy and salted perfectly! The portions are ginormous so you will definitely take home leftovers. read more

My boyfriend and I have had great breakfasts here so we decided to try them out for dinner. He ordered the chicken and steak teriyaki with white rice, and I ordered fried butterfly shrimp and french fries. The teriyaki was pretty good and they gave a generous portion. The vegetables that came mixed in were well done, and the steak and chicken held the teriyaki flavour well. The plain white rice was a perfect accompaniment for the strong sauce. But my shrimp and fries... pretty sad dish. I ended up eating more of my boyfriend's teriyaki than my sad meal. My dish came with 6 pretty large butterfly shrimp that were severely lacking in flavour. There was absolutely no seasoning on the shrimp. No salt, pepper, nothing. All they did was take too much breading (which had no seasoning so thus no flavour whatsoever) coat it on the shrimp, and fry it. I couldn't even fill up on the fries because they were soggy and limp because they did not drain the oil. I would not recommend the shrimp or fries, but would definitely say to give the steak/chicken teriyaki a try, especially if you're super hungry. read more

I went here for dinner yesterday and everything was pretty tasty except for the peanut butter cheesecake. I got the turkey burger with cheddar cheese and onion rings instead of fries. That was delicious. I tasted the twinkly milkshake which was yummy as well. The peanut butter cheesecake had a funny taste to it. I did like the fact that it was not too sweet but, the flavor of it was just off to me and I am a big fan of peanut butter so it is hard to displease me. My friend got the Oreo cookie cheesecake and was a big fan of that. Overall, good service, nice ambiance, and good food. read more

We have been going to the Imperial Diner for years and unfortunately I am sad to say is has gone downhill. Tonight we ordered takeout burgers. My husband's deluxe came with a tiny tub containing the lettuce and a tomato. He did not get the raw onion he ordered with it. His bun was burned and another small tub contained about 2 tablespoons of cole slaw and a quarter of a pickle. I ordered a cheeseburger medium rare and was served a hockey puck with a burned bun and the same tiny cole slaw and quarter pickle. The side order baked sweet potato was overcooked and was leaking through the aluminum foil. Terribly disappointing for the $28.41 charged. read more

The food here is great! You get a pickle and coleslaw before your meal. The pickles you get with your coleslaw are really small but are buttery and so good tasting. The coleslaw is prepared well, their isn't too much mayo and it's not watery how ever it could use some salt and pepper cause it isn't that flavorful. I unfortunately don't have a picture of my plate coming out immediately. I got so hungry I ate the garnish fruit. The plate came with a slice of water melon that fit perfecting in a tastefully folded orange slice as a garnish. After I ate the garnish I took a picture! I got the vegetarian Panini and honestly, it was the best veggie Panini I've ever had on long island. The sweet potato fries were good too. Everything was hot and the wait wasn't long. This Panini consisted of balsamic marinated grilled eggplant, zucchini, Maui red onions, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, and basil pesto mayonnaise. The pesto mayo and the balsamic grill eggplant, give this sandwich an amazing blend of flavors while also being a satisfying experience to eat. The veggies are served on a grilled Panini bread similar to ciabatta. The sandwich is crunchy because it is pressed giving it nice grill marks. The crunchy bread and the melted mozzarella are a joyful dichotomy of textures. I think my favorite thing about this sandwich is the fact that the sandwich sounds so sloppy but when you eat it it is perfectly compact and not messy at all! They really did an amazing job making this sandwich. I think my meal came out to around $14 plus tip. The diner also features younger music in the juke box like My chemical romance. I started laughing when black parade randomly came on while we were there. read more
