The carpet was ruined as by this point every step I took was accompanied by the sound you would expect come from a soaked 2" carpet and padding together. NOT GOOD! I called my insurance company, (State Farm) to find out my options. Without hesitation my agent, Cesar Ortiz, three way'd a call into Thom Hoge of Servpro of Downey to help asses my issue. After a quick intro and brief description of what had transpired Thom knew exactly what course of action to take and was sure to fully explain to me his purpose for doing so. Thom personally drove his equipment to my home and set up a dehumidifier (not the kind you find at Target) and two industrial sized blowers. Thom kept the equipment running for three days till every single millidrop was extracted and evaporated from the floor and walls. We shared this with Servpro and instead of having compassion, they took advantage of our situation. This Servpro of Downey cannot be trusted. They charged 3 times the amount of our insurance company's estimate. For months, our insurance company and Servpro went back and forth through 7 estimates, and Servpro refused to budge. After 8 months, Servpro threatened to put a lien on our house--and then actually did it--while at the same time charging us late fees, even though we had NEVER even seen an invoice yet! That is insane! When we finally received the invoice from our insurance company - not from Servpro, we were shocked. It was full of false charges and padded costs. For example, they billed us $8,400 for HVAC cleaning, but no one ever came to our house to do that work--we handled it ourselves. Then we asked about another $30,000 worth of charges for work that Servpro claimed they did. We asked both the insurance company and Servpro to explain the charges. The insurance company couldn't answer because they didn't do the work, and Servpro flat-out refused to answer any of our questions. An honest business can explain the work that they actually did. We were present every single day the crew came, documented the work, and took photos. We know exactly what was done, and the invoice was full of lies. This company operates like a scam, with no morals, no integrity, and no honest business practices. No wonder our insurance company said that this is NOT one of their recommended vendors.
