Agree with some of the recent reviews. This is a pricey haircut which im willing to pay to help style and shape my wavey hair. I expressed the last couple times I am trying to grow my hair out to make the most of my hair type. At my most recent appointment, I made repeat comments along the lines of "im just looking for a trim to clean it up while i'm letting it grow out" and the stylist chopped off most of my curls in a weird way making it hard to style and losing my progress. At a salon of this price point how often to I have to say "when" as they're cutting and clipping away? Also agree w recent post, styling products were Walmart quality. Save your money and support other salons, i'll be putting my hat on and looking elsewhere. read more

Horrible experience all throughout, and I would think twice about coming to this place. I went to get my haircut with Evelyn, and she completely ignored my instructions despite me being careful to check up with her. I asked for a (very) low fade with a reference and a picture, and I walked out with a clear high fade (if it can even be called a fade) in a way that I can't honestly understand. Reference picture and result, both of myself, are attached below. I voiced my concerns to her immediately at the moment and just like my haircut, she also ignored that and basically told me that it doesn't look too bad and it is what it is. I paid the nearly $70 for this. The owner tried to be helpful after I left and told me she would offer a refund through the phone. That was 4 whole months ago, and she still has not followed through to add more insult to injury and frustration. I absolute hate writing a bad review for any business, but this is just ridiculous. read more

iMALE Salon For Men - Men's Hair Salons Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I wanted to post my first review in a long time as iMale Salon has been amazing for me and in particular Sandra is quite simply the best hairstylist I have ever had- she is awesome. The staff is incredibly polite and professional, and the salon venue is a cool, River North loft atmosphere. Highly, highly recommend!! read more

I didn't really like my haircut I got here. I have curly hair. I met with Evelyn. She was really nice and I loved the experience, but I didn't like the cut. I asked her to give me input on what she think would look best, and the haircut she gave me looked similar to what I would get at a cheaper chain salon. I recognize there's only so many ways to do men's haircuts, but curly hair requires a bit more attention and I left with a blob on top that I couldn't style well. The putty used was not much different than what I was using at home from Walmart, which I'm not happy with and expressed I was having trouble styling my hair with basic men's putty/cream products. I immediately put a hat on when I got home. I was hoping that when I ask for the stylist to recommend a cut for me, they would give a practical suggestion that fits my head shape and looks nice. I felt like I might've needed to grow out my hair but we chopped all my curls off and I just didn't like it. I came to iMALE knowing it was a little pricey hoping for a more consultative and personalized experience. I think I could get the same haircut for cheaper. I'm going to keep looking for a salon that will provide a more personal approach with better recommendations on styling. If you already know what you want, I think Evelyn and the team would do a fantastic job. But if you're not sure what you want and are hoping they can give you that new years boost / transformation, look elsewhere. read more

Amazing customer service. THey give you a massage and hand cleaning before the cut. Price is standard industry. Def recommend coming back here. -Yale Reardon read more

Mediocre haircut, high price essentially for shampoo and scalp massage. Hair dresser kept asking questions about length like she didn't know what she was doing. Left dissatisfied and $50 lighter read more

Second visit to this salon for me. Best haircuts I have had in years and years. Fabulous pampering before and after cut. From hand massages - scalp massage - facial scrub - hot towel wraps and masks. Have had Noreli the first time and requested her the second visit. She is very very good. She must have made notes on my first cut and then reviewed for my second as she recalled it all. Not a cheap place - but you get what you pay for. And a great experience and haircut is worth it. They even offer a free "line up" in between cuts. Nice online booking system as well. I'm hooked on both iMALE and Noreli. read more

The reviews are spot on.. this place is next level awesome. Evelyn gave me the best haircut I've ever had, perfect for my wedding. Appointments are really easy to schedule and it's totally worth the money. 11/10, this is the only place I'll be getting my haircut in the future. read more

Went back and dealt with Cassy. She was super nice, knew how to make conversation. The full experience was good and even ended up buying an Aveda product. I like that they do the follow-up between haircuts , it helps you look clean the whole time. read more

I just moved to Chicago, and I'm picky about my hair. After having the same person cut it for the past 4 years I was really nervous to have to find someone new. But after looking around on Yelp and some other sites I decided to try iMale after finding quite a few stellar reviews. I had my first haircut there today with Cali, and I can honestly say, hands-down, this is the best haircut I have ever had in my life. The shop is clean, staff is friendly and attentive, and the perks that come with haircut including the hot face towel and the hand massage are great. That little extra really went a long way to make the experience memorable. Cali, the stylist, was incredible. I briefly described how I wanted it cut and when she explained back to me what she was planning it was spot on. I'm usually a little shy and don't talk much when getting my hair cut, but she made me feel comfortable from the second I sat down and had me laughing and chatting with her the entire time. Just an impeccable experience from start to finish. Edit: Just went for the second time and it was equally as awesome as the first time. Best two haircuts I've ever had, and the complimentary upgraded facial they gave me for returning was a really great touch. Their customer service is top-notch. read more

Ugh. Don't go here. Everyone working here seems like they are inconvenienced by working. This place will be a hard pass going forward.

Evelyn has consistently given me great haircuts for the past 2 years. She is very skilled in her trade and has excellent customer service. Would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a great haircut! read more

Calling all Dad's, Brothers, Bro's, and Boyfriends...if you want to look your best, look no further. I was heading to lunch with a friend one day and he asked me to meet him here while he finished his haircut. Every guy within a square mile radius of this place should be going here for the cut. The entire staff...so pleasant, professional, and pretty! If you go, I recommend asking for CALI. Be prepared to look your best after leaving, she works major magic. As a woman, I know a good salon when I see one...you're welcome fellas. CHOP, CHOP...make your appt. read more

Can I give 6 stars? Seriously, a great experience as soon as you walk in the door. Jamie is terrific, she just knows how to style a guy's hair. The place is terrific, from ESPN SportsCenter always on, to the hand wax, even if I don't need a haircut, I want to stop in! read more

I was in town for a conference and desperately needed a hair cut. I am not a dramatic guy so when I say, "this was my best hair cut," that's exactly what it was. Great service by a very skilled stylist. I wish I could remember my stylist's name to give credit where due; since I can't this will have to do. read more

iMale is an amazing salon! Also, I highly recommend Evelyn. She consistently gives a fantastic haircut and is so sweet. 10/10 recommend!

Professional staff, was able to get me in on a busy Saturday. Love the complementary mini facial and the hand wax! Expert stylish helped me switch up my style. Will be back. read more

Melinda has been cutting my hair for nearly 12 years. In that span, nobody else has touched my hair. Need I say more? With imale being Melinda's brainchild, you cant go wrong. Getting your hair cut anywhere else is a mistake. read more

Great cut, awesome perks (paraffin wax hand peel, hand massage, mini facial), and a wonderful atmosphere at iMALE. Whitney W. gave me one of my best haircuts. I don't live in Chicago, but I will be returning the next time I'm in town. Bravo. read more

I'm moving out of Chicago, and iMale is going to be one of the places I'll miss. Rachel cut my hair for two years and could not have done a better job. She guided me through the process of growing it out and walked me through styling it during that process. Thanks to her, I never had an awkward phase between hair styles. Once we got it to the length I wanted, she kept my hair well-maintained. Even in the week before I was due for another cut, my hair was easy to style and held up well throughout the day. A haircut costs more than it would at a barber, but you also get a lot more, including shampoo and conditioning before and after your cut, a mini-facial and paraffin wax treatment for your hands. It's a great experience. The staff will ask you if you want additional services or products, but they're never too aggressive about up-selling you. Highly recommended. read more

Formerly American Male, Jamie and Melinda took over the space and improved on an already terrific experience. I've been seeing Jamie for some time now and it's nice to walk into a place of business where you are recognized and appreciated as a customer. Jamie is talented so with very little guidance she'll have you looking great and on your way. In addition to a basic haircut, you get a hand massage, a hot towel with some moisturizer on your face and a scalp massage along with your hair wash. It's very, very relaxing and is a total stress reliever. I often get the upgrade which is a facial and while I've not had one before coming here, I can tell you that it's a great experience. If you've not had one, I strongly recommend it. These two ladies are masters of their craft and the environment is totally geared towards men. Comfortable chairs, ESPN on the flatscreens, modern (but not loud or obnoxious) music, hardwood floors and exposed brick. Looking for something ten notches above a Supercuts or a Great Clips experience but without the fussiness of a typical salon? Make an appointment at iMale Salon and you won't be disappointed. read more

This was the first time I ever went to a salon and it was a great experience. Yes, they are a bit pricey ($55 for haircut), but not only do you get a good haircut, they wash your hair and hand massages! Plus, I recommend Cassy, she's very nice and she can make enjoyable conversations through the whole time you are there. Definitely recommend to try it out. read more

So glad they were able to accommodate me at the last second! Got my haircut by Jackie and she was great. Very nice to talk to and left me with a fresh 'do. The paraffin hand treatment during my hair wash was a great bonus, as was the hot towel. I walked out of there feeling like John Travolta, struttin down the street in Saturday Night Fever. read more

I've been going to Melinda at this location to get my hair cut and nails done for just around 5 years now. I've never had a complaint about my service here whether it has been nails, hair or a facial. The staff is always very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. I really look forward to going and getting a break from my day. Melinda and her business partner Jamie recently took over this location and have renamed it iMale. They've kept the basic layout of the space the same from the previous salon but have made great updates throughout making it feel like a brand new salon by refinishing the floors, adding new TVs, new lighting and so much more. They've implemented a rewards and referral program to actually reward you for your patronage. Unlike some male salons in the loop where you feel out of place if you're not wearing a 3-piece suit, iMale is the perfect blend of class and comfort so you can feel comfortable walking in there after a board meeting, round of golf or a round of drinks. read more

It says a lot that I've had the same stylist for over 2 years. I used to bounce around, just finding someone that can fit my schedule or even cut my hair at home in the bathtub. This place has a great vibe, very comfortable and Jamie is simply awesome. It's nice to be a regular and have some friendly banter the way through. She's great at offering suggestions of what to do if you want to change things up and the amenities you get with a hair cut are really nice. I always go for the upgraded facial, which is always a nice way to relax and chill out for a second in the middle of or after a hard day of work. I'm sure the regular one that comes with it is still great too. I'll keep coming back as long as Jamie runs the ship over there. read more

I just moved to Chicago from Connecticut and was in desperate need of a cut. I emailed Melinda around 10 am and had an appointment later that day with Sandra. I chose iMale because of the Yelp reviews. Back home I had been going to the same guy for years, so finding a new place had me worried. I left iMale impressed. Cool atmosphere with sports on every TV and a good mix of Zeppelin and the Black Keys playing. I got a pretty good cut and for the paraffin, mini-facial and hot towel, I don't think $43 is pricey. Got my next appointment scheduled. read more

I have been going to iMale for over a year now; although I pay more than I used to for a haircut; you get every penny's worth. The treatment services are great; I love the scalp and hand massage! Danielle is a wonderful stylist. She is a consummate professional and strives every visit to ensure I am fully satisfied with my cut and style. Get the "upgrade", especially after a long day at work; you will not be disappointed. read more

Always a great experience at iMale. Noreli is an excellent stylist, very professional and highly skilled. Will be back soon.

Great place for your grooming needs. Fun atmosphere great stylists convenient location.

Melinda always provides an excellent hair cut. Great friendly service in a very relaxing environment. I strongly recommend IMale Salon.

I recently moved to Boston after having lived in Chicago for 3 years and saying goodbye to iMale was among the top reasons this move was so difficult. They're the best at male hair fashion and while they're not cheap ($48-$49 from 2015-2018), I know guys getting $200 haircuts that aren't noticeably better than mine. Appointment handling is super punctual and I worked with 3 different stylists (Whitney, Sandra and Cassie) and loved them all. Super friendly and competent. If you're a guy in and around downtown Chicago, don't go anywhere else. Tried 3 places in and around Boston and haven't found even a close replacement yet. (Somebody help!) read more

I don't typically like getting haircuts in the city because they are so overpriced, but iMale offers a lot for a $43 haircut. Whenever I'm in the area and I need a haircut, I always go to iMale. Sandra is my stylist and she does a fantastic job. She takes pride in her work. Most salons in the city charge over $50 for just a haircut, but at iMale they give you a lot of extra's for the money. read more

Friendly, thoughtful, stylish. Easy to get to, just west of the Ontario on-ramp to the Circle (Jayne Byrne). AND, I just found out, they donate their old towels to the local no-kill animal shelter! How nice is that? read more

I've been going to iMale for a few months now and absolutely love it. The salon is clean and perfectly laid out. The staff is friendly. I will only ever go to Emily W. for my haircuts. Honestly, I wouldn't trust anyone else to do my hair. I have been going to her since I moved to Chicago three years ago and I have nothing but amazing things to say. She's friendly. Funny. Amazing with her job - she easily gives the best haircut I've ever had. I highly recommend requesting her for your next haircut! read more

I had a really bad experience with a big chain franchise place, so I wanted to find a high quality place downtown near where I live. iMale fit the bill perfectly. It is located on Ontario, over by the on-ramp to the Kennedy, but there is street parking on both sides of the street, and I have always found spaces nearby. The space is small, but efficiently used. It is basically a spa for guys... ESPN on overhead HD TVs, comfy chairs by the sinks for the shampooing where they also give facials and hand massage as part of the whole deal (or can be upgraded). The other nice perk is that one can stop in between visits for a "touch up," included in the base price. I was randomly assigned to Danielle W. and it was fortuitous. She has been a great stylist that I have seen for over a year. She always does a terrific job and has given me good advice for my hair. I plan to keep going back. And I highly recommend her. read more

It is a nice place with extra services. I had my first haircut in Chicago here and loved it. The second cut was ok, however, my third cut was bad and I realized that they actually cut my ear and it was bleeding when I got back home. I have a high pain threshold, I didn't think it was bleeding until my couch had a blood stain. Haircutter didn't say a thing or even apologized. EDIT: Owner of the place called and apologized. He also offered a complimentary haircut. +1 star for him to trying to make it right. read more

This salon sucks. The styler didn't listen to what you wanted. Spent a lot of time but cut the hair so bad. She seemed lack of profession and knowledge of hair cut. But anyway the service was fine but my hair was cut unexpectedly unsatisfied. read more

I've been to a few men's salons around town (316, van buren) and iMale is my favorite. I had cuts by Jaimie (once) and Emily (4-5 cuts) and both of them did a fantastic job. Scalp and hand massages, a facial, and a hot towel are all really nice (free) extras. read more

iMale is truly a cut above. I was initially hesitant to pay their slightly higher than barbershop prices, but didn't have a choice. On Sunday, all the barbers in River North are closed. Thank goodness for that. Otherwise, that one fateful Sunday as I lay disheveled and in desperate need of a trim, I would have never discovered iMale. Included in the price is one of the best hand massages I've ever had, and a simple moisturizing facial. To finish it off stylist recommended and executed on a great haircut. Well worth the price. I'll be back. read more
