After they received the payment for my daughters first birthday smash cake, I barely had any further contact with them. I wanted confirmation that the money was received via pay pal and then I also wanted to make sure everything was all set and ready to go so that they cake would be delivered. I emailed Lisa, and received a reply- I thought all would be well. To my surprise on the day of the party I arrived at the venue and receive a text message saying the cake was dropped off. I feel like they did this because the cake looked nothing like the images Lisa and I discussed via email the week prior. Not only did the cake not look like what we went over but the colors were WAY OFF. My daughter was turning 1 years old we wanted a dream catcher cake for her to smash with light soft pinks and aqua colors . I received a drab cornbread tasting cake with turquoise and hot pink frosting, for 162.00- I assume they didn't think I would taste it since it was a smash cake, I am beyond appalled. Then Chef Ron had the audacity to tell me what color the icing was as if I didn't see it for my self, then he asked me to provide photos which I did, this was a terrible experience to only be refunded 20 bucks from a almost 200 dollar cake order. I wanted a Game of Thrones cake and sent an image to replicate - which they said they could do. They did not communicate effectively. The week of the cake pick up, I called three times and left two emails to confirm what their address was - all over a span of three days. They didn't get back to me until the third call. And when they did call back, I was told the pickup location was at a convenient store called "Quick Stop". The call with Chef Ron took me back by surprise when I started asking questions. He was rude and unprofessional, mentioned he was overwhelmed, and said customer service/their marketing team was on vacation (which I didn't think was a reason for being rude or unprofessional). Towards the end of the call, he threatened to not provide any service (asking, "Do you want the cake or not?" when it was just a few days before pickup) and hung up because he needed to answer other calls. When we went to go pick up the cake, it was just as the name of the convenient store implied. You want the stop to be quick because of how unsafe and rundown the location pick up was. I immediately started laughing when I saw the cake. It was so terrible that the whole situation was comical. It looked nothing like the picture at all. However I will say, Chef Ron was nice enough to give me a full refund when I called to make a complaint after receiving the cake. He said that Imagine Cake Studio had another order the same week, which he held above my order. He took half of the blame as well as gave half of the blame to the humidity that week. Which was no excuse, since it's always humid in the DMV, especially in the beginning of June. read more

We called and left messages and emailed this business a month ago for a birthday party to occur mid-October. They responded a week before (4 weeks after we contacted them) saying they are over-booked. Terrible follow through. Now we're stuck trying to locate a place who makes cakes without eggs.... they do not know how to run a business...: Response to your post: You are confusing two different orders ma'am. We responded to your email with questions and you never responded even after several emails and several phone calls. The very least you could do was respond to us letting us know that you were not able to work with us. This way we would have enough time to look for alternative options. That is the way one should behave if you are running a business.... Second response: Before someone puts in an order and parts with their money, one should know if you could make a cake with low sugar and no eggs right? Sorry for your medical issues. BEWARE! GHOSTED ONCE CAKE WAS PAID FOR. I paid for my cake ($200+) a month in advance and never heard back from Imagine Cake Studio despite multiple emails, text messages and voicemails. I had to purchase a last minute day of party replacement. Baker claimed that cake was made and dropped off at pick up point but the pick up time (set by baker) was an hour before my party and I could not risk baker not coming through since they did not respond to any form of communication. I also tried to contact the pick up point and they did not answer their phone. I lost my $200+. Paypal was no help in recovering money. I only heard from the baker once I filed a complaint with Paypal. They claimed cake was baked and delivered and apologized for lack of communication. The reasons I initially decided to work with them was their prompt response to my vision, (Breakfast at Tiffany's/Bride & Co. themed bridal shower), and their prices. Tracy Petterson, the Customer Service Manager, was the example of perfect customer service! She was prompt, responsive, understanding, and supportive of our needs. I got a cake for my friend's birthday gathering. the cake was nice looking but definitely not what i asked for. i asked for a strawberry shortcake and just got a plain vanilla cake. they said the mistake was due to miscommunication in the kitchen but i feel like the instructions were simple. i even talked to someone on the phone explaining what i wanted and he told me to fill out an inquiry form where i indicated the exact order. i'm giving three stars for the prompt communication and they offered a discount for my next cake--won't be using. i think they should pay more attention to detail and improve the communication among each other because getting a wrong cake is very disappointing. read more

I celebrated my 30th birthday with a private dinner party in DC and after debating between three options, I decided to order my cake from Imagine Cake Studios. Not only did I never receive my cake, the owner called me to "apologize" while I was at my party and then ended up yelling at me to "calm down" as I rightfully freaked out over not having my birthday night be perfect. The experience started with Lisa, a Custoner Service Manager, who was professional and very pleasant. She confirmed my order and even said she would get them to send me a picture of the cake before delivery to make sure it was what I wanted. On the day, I was so busy running around enjoying my birthday that I didn't even realize the picture never came. I got to the venue and that was when I realized there was no cake. I emailed Lisa (our main form of communication) and instead of enjoying my time with my guests, I stood outside calling all the numbers I had for them. After about 15 minutes with no luck, I gave up and went to try to enjoy my party. About halfway through the night, I received a call from the owner, wanting to apologize because somehow my order got misplaced so the cake was never even made. I was upset but trying to remain calm as he offered to bring me a standard undecorated cake that they had in stock. I was asking him questions trying to make sense of what was happening, still on the verge of tears and still trying to remain calm when he had the nerve to raise his voice, telling me to calm down because he was trying to "help" me. At that point, I lost it. I told him all I wanted was my money back. I was so livid that he would dare to raise his voice at me that i had to spend about 10 minutes in the bathroom calming myself down. 30 only comes once and unfortunately for me, my 30th birthday was ruined by Imagine Cake Studio. read more

I'm going to start by saying that this is going to be a long review because the bakery went above and beyond just making a delicious cake!! A little background-- my husband's grandmother sadly passed away from cancer in February. We realized that our time was limited with her in by the Fall and spent many weekends traveling back and forth to New Jersey. (My husbands grandmother's health took a major decline and she was expected to pass within the next days... ). I was informed that she was not making the cake because she never received a contract... (we were never emailed a contract and I figured that our correspondences about flavor/decor/date/ etc... was a confirmation)... well, you can probably imagine how sad I was. We were rushing to say goodbye to the matriarch of our family. I was buying grief books for the kids and mentally preparing them for what was going to happen... this birthday, as silly as it sounds, was the one glimpse of positivity that we had. The cake was representative of the day. He had picked out the flavors, the design, the figures to put on top... usually I would shrug it off as an unfortunate event, but given the timing, this was soooo upsetting. I'm not one to bash businesses or make a fuss, so I simply asked a local Facebook group for recommendations for a bakery that could make his cake in time (we were days away from his party). Let me start of by saying that I got so many responses from local bakers. I was and still am so touched by all of the support. I decided to message the first person who responded, and went with Imagine Cake Studio. I corresponded with Tracy who went above and beyond to make the whole process as stress free as possible. She knew that we were rushing to New Jersey and met us at a location close to our home within hours of posting. I handed her the figurines and she asked if she could give me a hug. She was soooo kind and supportive. Fast forward closer to the party and I had to reschedule the party. Doctors said that my husbands grandmother would pass any day but she held on. We rescheduled for the following week... we then had to reschedule yet another time as our grandmother's funeral needed to be held on the new party date. I felt so bad about rescheduling but attach was so sympathetic and understanding each time. We were finally able to celebrate my son's birthday on March 8th. The cake was exactly what we had asked for. My son was soooo excited!! The cake also tasted as delicious as it looked!! Another important thing to note is that the baker delivered it himself and waived the delivery fee. He was so nice to our family and to the birthday boy. We didn't know it at the time but that would be the last time that my son would see his friends and family for months as everything shut down days later due to Covid-19. I'm so grateful that my son got the celebration that he had wanted! 2020 has indeed been a remarkably tough year but I'm happy to say that his 5th birthday party will be a positive memory. Rude, inconsiderate and shoddy work are all the words I first think of when I rate this company. I ordered a chocolate cake two days before my son's birthday and was quoted $50. Then the price changed to $75 after I asked for a few decorations including Happy Birthday but that was not on the cake when he picked it up. Instead were cheesy ugly and unappetizing things that were plopped on the cake. The worst thing of all were the way this place treated me. I asked for the time they opened in the morning and had to ask two times and they still just replied, "All Day" whatever that means. They also gave me the wrong address for pick up. My son tried to find the address they gave me and there was no such place so he had to go the next day. When I complained about the wrong address, they told me they were sorry but to do a better job of planning ahead and that the "world does not revolve around me". Simply disgusting and I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for a birthday cake. Stay away from this place.
