Nice to have a local donut place in Takoma. Donuts are middling, better than the chain restaurants, but not so amazing that a trip out feels special or indulgent. Biggest issue is the staff. Had to wait for the staff member to finish her conversation with her buddy before being assisted and even then she stared at me as though I had interrupted something important. Didn't ask what I wanted or what I was interested in. Eventually offers a bag for the donuts. Seems more excited when others walked in but lingered enough to try to see what tip I was giving. One time, wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I've never felt welcomed there. So a nice place if you need a donut, but not for a special trip. Finally made my way to Takoma Park to try Donut Run out. The donuts are definitely fire and remind me of my favorite donut shop in CA. When I popped in on a Monday morning at around 11:45 am they still had a decent amount of donuts left. They did not have glazed so I opted for their vanilla sprinkle donut. My total came up to a little over $7 for 2 donuts. The interior was spacious but there were no seats (not sure if it was because they may have been closing soon). The workers were pleasant. The only thing I didn't love was the fact that they were blasting rock music but I think that goes with the vibe of their brand. Once I took my first bite I knew this is definitely the space that I will come to splurge for a sweet treat every once in a while. The donut was big and very sweet. My sister loved her donut too. Safe to say, I am obsessed with Donut Run! These donuts are not only the best donuts but they are vegan donuts, which makes them even better in my eyes. They have such a great variety of flavors and it is nearly impossible to choose one. I came here yesterday for the first time and I will probably be back at least two more times before I leave town. I ordered a death by chocolate donut, or something along those lines, and it lived up to its name. The donut was stuffed with chocolate cream and I wouldn't have it any other way. I had donut run in my list of places i wanted to try for a while and I finally decided to go. I got there at 7 when they opened and there was already a crowd , I ordered 6 donuts and paid $24. My favorite was the the Ube and Cream, I am never quite sure how ube desserts are suppose to taste but this was pretty good. I love apple fritter and this one was a pretty good one and it had noticeable pieces of apple which some apple fritters rarely do. The NY Crumb cake was delicious , I love the crumb and the flavor but i am not a huge fan of cake donuts. This one was very dense and hefty, so if you enjoy cake donuts you will love it. The pistachio lemon , the glaze definitely had a strong almond flavor so if you don't like that you wont enjoy it. The lemon cream was okay, but I scraped it off. I really liked the donut and glaze. The maple bar and cinnamon roll donut were delicious, but they were at the bottom of my list. I finished the donuts the next days and they were still fresh and soft. read more

S friend of mine sent me the link to this place and asked ifnid ever tried it. We both have family in DC and her brother had gotten them. I asked my family about it and they said they loved it but had no idea it was vegan. I was in DC this weekend visiting and my husband got up early after partying all night on the 4th to get to Donut Run because heard they sell out. He's non dairy and hasn't had a good donut in years. That all changed on Saturday. We got a dozen: two raspberry jelly, two boston cream, a creme brulee, a friench toast, a key lime pie and some classic frosted and cake donuts. They were all delicious, we quartered them so no one was overly indulging but every single one was amazing. The texture was exactly that of a traditional donut, both the yeasted and the cake, the flavor of each was perfect. Not one bad thing to say. We will go back every time we visit DC. This place has a line out the door for a reason! A great vegan donut place that has non vegans flocking to it means it is amazing. They have such an extensive variety of donuts and $33 is not bad for a dozen considering how large and delicious they are. They have filled, cake, and yeast donuts. A wide variety of flavors that you really cannot believe are vegan. We got a dozen so working our way through them. The best so far was the Carmel apple since it is tough to find a vegan version of it. Can't go wrong with the blueberry lemon even if it is a cake not a yeast style. They have specials all of the time based on the season so make sure to come back. Lovely staff that keep the line moving quickly. There is no indoor seating due to the small size and they only allow for six people at a time inside. Be ready to wait for a bit, but it is always worth the time and hike to get out here. read more

They are a small shop that can sell out so don't wait until the afternoon to go!! Third, I came for Apple cider donuts because .... fall :) I also got an apple fritter, a Samoa donut and a raspberry ghost--the latter bc two people in front of me did and it sounded good. So far, I've tried the Apple fritter and the raspberry ghost. The latter may be my favorite jelly filled donut ever!! There's plenty of raspberry jelly and it's perfectly soft with powdered sugar on top. The apple fritter has visible bits of apple and that perfect cinnamon flavor. When you come after they close, you can see all the people who are anticipating people being let down by not making it on time before they sell out. Thats how good they are! Our donut was not greasy, perfectly crisp, and the sweetness is exactly what you want when you treat yourself to a nice expensive donut. Their showcase is small but mighty. Stopped here today with a friend; between us, we got 4 donuts and split them. I was able to try the French toast donut (maple glaze), the apple fritter, a mango coconut, and the cinnamon sugar cake donut. The apple fritter was quite good. The yeast donuts were both a little dense, but the flavors of the frosting was excellent. The mango coconut had shaved coconut and a mango frosting. It was very good. The maple donut's frosting was great, too. Wish the donuts themselves were a little lighter. A year since my last review and no surprise that I love Donut Run as much as I did the first time I bit into their Apple fritter. Donut Run is an all vegan business, however, their customer base is broader than just vegans. I know there are not that many vegans in Maryland, yet when you go to Takoma Park, every family you see is carrying a pink box from Donut Run. The donut selection is always changing. Not only do they have seasonal flavors but they also constantly invent new creations. I got to try their pistachio lemon donut this last visit and it rocked my world! Their Apple fritter is a classic that sells out if you do not arrive before 10am. The pineapple upside down donut was so spot on with flavors and the maple mocha donut I could easily enjoy every morning. Aside from an amazing donut selection, they have incredibly friendly staff. I have always had a fantastic experience asking them questions, placing my order, and checking out. Donut Run does not have indoor seating and you cannot use their bathroom. Luckily there are plenty of parks nearby with benches to eat your donuts at. The bathroom situation is tricky though. I wish they could open their restroom up to customers but I understand their reasons to not do that. No matter if you are vegan or not I hope you check out Donut Run. I *love* this spot. I'd heard about it from vegan friends and how popular it can get and was intrigued to try. I've been twice and have been so happy both times. One would assume that vegan donuts would taste different than donuts with eggs and dairy, but they taste the exact same: just as fluffy and light and the right amount of doughy. If you want the best range of flavor options, go early. I lucked out that there wasn't a line either time I visited and had my pick of the full range, but I also went earlier on a weekday. On top of traditional flavors, they have inventive and tasty seasonal options. They don't keep their website updated with options, so check out their Instagram for the most up-to-date info. The staff is always friendly and the music is great. Last time I was there they were playing the Misfits, which was delightful and very unexpected. Parking is typically easy to find, but I imagine it's far more difficult on weekends. It's close to the red line and bus stops. Make some time one morning to go! You won't be sorry. read more

The service was still great, taste was great moist very soft, not overbearing in chocolate or Caramel not too many nuts just the right amount on there .Presentation was very nice.
