Safe to say, I am obsessed with Donut Run! These donuts are not only the best donuts but they are vegan donuts, which makes them even better in my eyes. They have such a great variety of flavors and it is nearly impossible to choose one. I came here yesterday for the first time and I will probably be back at least two more times before I leave town. I ordered a death by chocolate donut, or something along those lines, and it lived up to its name. The donut was stuffed with chocolate cream and I wouldn't have it any other way. The line was short, when I came by on a Monday, but I've heard there can be quiet the line come the weekend. Regardless, the line would be worth it! 10/10 recommend.

Service is always welcoming here, clean shop and the donuts are so flavorful and filling. I try to visit at least once a month to get a fix and try new flavors. So worth the try at least once!

Amazing experience that this spot. I would say this is one of my favorite donut spots in DC. Service was great and they were patient with me as I made my order. Look forward to going back.

Vegan Donuts!

Donuts are out of this world - Absolutely delicious and vegan! Good, efficient service too -- Can't wait to go back!!!

Tried Donut Run for the first time and I'm officially obsessed! I seriously need one closer to Clinton because I'd be there every day. This time, I grabbed a dozen to share with friends, family, and my students--and they were a hit all around! The service was top-tier, and the moment you walk in, the amazing smells let you know you're in for a treat. I'm already counting down the days until I pick up donuts for my birthday next week!

This place is a GEM! I stumbled across their instagram and was impressed by their following. Decided to pop in one morning and it all makes sense! It's a cute spot, great and creative donuts, and such kind employees! I love them so much I now get the daily Instagram notification so I can check out their menu. A must have!

2.4.25 My colleague let me try two donuts that she purchased, which were the blueberry whip and French toast. I loved the French toast, which is a maple syrup donut. The blueberry whip was good, however the powdered sugar, which was very fine tickled my throat. In perusing the menu, there are a lot of flavors that I am interested in trying. The bakery is out of the way for me, but is worth the trip.

The donuts here never disappointed. My favorite place for donuts in DC. The workers are always friendly and patient.

Donuts are consistently yummy! Make sure to get here early enough if you want to try a flavor that is seasonal or just plain looks delicious. I love all the seasonal flavors and will be back.

Finally! I found a place with amazing homemade cake donuts. I couldn't even tell they were vegan. The choc with sprinkles cake donut is my absolute fav. There's a 6 person limit inside at a time and they post their flavors every day on IG Stories. Service is great, very kind.

Maple Bar, NY Crumb Cake, Cinnamon Roll, Apple Fritter, Ube and Creams and Pistachio Lemon

I had donut run in my list of places i wanted to try for a while and I finally decided to go. I got there at 7 when they opened and there was already a crowd , I ordered 6 donuts and paid $24. My favorite was the the Ube and Cream, I am never quite sure how ube desserts are suppose to taste but this was pretty good. I love apple fritter and this one was a pretty good one and it had noticeable pieces of apple which some apple fritters rarely do. The NY Crumb cake was delicious , I love the crumb and the flavor but i am not a huge fan of cake donuts. This one was very dense and hefty, so if you enjoy cake donuts you will love it. The pistachio lemon , the glaze definitely had a strong almond flavor so if you don't like that you wont enjoy it. The lemon cream was okay, but I scraped it off. I really liked the donut and glaze. The maple bar and cinnamon roll donut were delicious, but they were at the bottom of my list. I finished the donuts the next days and they were still fresh and soft.

S friend of mine sent me the link to this place and asked ifnid ever tried it. We both have family in DC and her brother had gotten them. I asked my family about it and they said they loved it but had no idea it was vegan. I was in DC this weekend visiting and my husband got up early after partying all night on the 4th to get to Donut Run because heard they sell out. He's non dairy and hasn't had a good donut in years. That all changed on Saturday. We got a dozen: two raspberry jelly, two boston cream, a creme brulee, a friench toast, a key lime pie and some classic frosted and cake donuts. They were all delicious, we quartered them so no one was overly indulging but every single one was amazing. The texture was exactly that of a traditional donut, both the yeasted and the cake, the flavor of each was perfect. Not one bad thing to say. We will go back every time we visit DC. My husband was there around 7:45 AM. He said parking was easy and the pink building was inviting and everyone was very nice.

Payday, mocha frapp, DC crumb cake and strawberry donuts
Anushka M.

So many cool toppings and flavors! They post their flavors on instagram which was very helpful to ensure I was ready to order when I was next in line. They don't have any seating so it's definitely a grab and go spot. All donuts are vegan and so soft and fresh! I got the payday, mocha frapp, strawberry and DC crumb cake donuts. The payday and crumb cake were my favorites. I'd love to come back and try more flavors soon!

No.

Do you have gluten free?

No.

Do they generally have different/unique flavors of cake donuts?

Yes. And they post their daily donuts on their IG story every day.

It was light and had a good, but not too overpowering flavor, and it was overly sweet. It tasted like a real doughnut made with good ingredients. The price point of the doughnuts reflects the quality of the ingredients. The owner is very nice and happy to explain the various flavors if you asked. He was very helpful! He told me that if you want the popular flavors, try to get there before 1pm because they sell out, as you can see in one of the photos. Enjoy your life and treat yourself to a Handcraft Doughnut!

Our donut was light and fluffy, with a creme infused with real banana. You can tell that they are being thoughtful on their approach to artisanal donuts, and it really shows up in how they elevate this classic dessert. Its rare to find donuts that balance complex flavors, sweetness level, and good crumb but all of those things are what make it distinct fom others, especially chain restaurant donuts. Of course, these are probably made the day of and ours was a large and substantial size. Its definitely a treat-yourself type of moment to commit to the price point, but we weren't disappointed. My take on high‑price‑point food in Union Market is simple: that's exactly where you'll find it. So once you let go of that once you enter, you have a more pleasureable experience by allowing yourself to indulge and try to find the thing that will really fulfill you. And they did that for me. Thank you beautiful ladies who helped me select my donut!

They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. I definitely prefer their Ube and Pandan over the Black sesame donut. The Matcha chocolate croissant and the Ube Kouign Amann were my favorites of the bunch! I cannot recommend them enough, this will surely be my first stop every time I am in DC!

The space is a pretty cute, modern café with cherry blossom décor and a great mix of sweet and savory pastries. We honestly tried almost everything Garlic Scallion Bun - Soft, lightly toasted with just the right crunch. Inspired by a Taiwanese garlic bun, it was super easy to eat and one of my favorites (9/10). Matcha Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - A rectangular croissant absolutely loaded with matcha and chocolate, topped with matcha powder. It was almost a bit too heavy on the matcha for me, and the bitterness overpowered the chocolate. Banana Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - Banana cream on top with banana chocolate inside. Pretty straightforward--tasted exactly like what you'd expect from a banana chocolate croissant. Ube Cheese Kouign Amann - Unique sweet-and-savory combo. The ube adds a subtle sweetness while the cheese gives it a creamy balance. Rich and slightly dense, and I just wished there was a bit more filling to balance the pastry. Miso Garlic Salted Bread - One of my top picks. Savory, buttery, and paired with a slightly sweet brioche-like base that balances everything really well. Elote Bread - Corn-topped savory bread with a nice sweetness and texture. This and the miso garlic bread were tied for my favorites. Strawberry Passionfruit Kouign Amann - Fruity and rich, but a bit filling overall. I just wished there was more filling to balance the pastry. Sugared Donut - Simple and classic, just a soft, sugary donut done right. Drinks: * Strawberry Matcha & Mango Matcha - Both layer fruit puree with matcha, but the flavors stay quite separate rather than blending together. * Vietnamese Coffee with Cold Foam - Strong coffee base with strawberry-flavored cold foam. It's pretty sweet overall with less of a coffee-forward taste, but still smooth and enjoyable. * White Mocha Latte - More coffee-forward compared to the sweeter drinks, which I actually preferred. Overall, I loved my visit--great spot for both savory and sweet pastries with creative flavor combinations and a lot to try. I definitely preferred the savory items over sweet here particularly the garlic scallion bun!

Wow...where do I even start? Whether you're looking for a cozy café with great coffee / pastries,…read morean intimate restaurant serving some of the best New American cooking, or just a place that has some of the friendliest, most inviting staff to ever grace the DC restaurant scene, Elle has you covered. They operate a cute little coffee counter in the day, which includes some of their amazing scones, croissants, and other goodies, as well as outstanding espresso drinks. There isn't a ton of seating in the café section so it ends up being quite crowded, but if you're lucky enough to snag a seat, it's super cozy and the perfect place to read or just hang out. The café area is confined to two mini counters in a small corner next to the front window, so it always gets plenty of natural light and is a great place to people watch. I dropped by on a Sunday morning to grab an americano and their maple pecan scone; the americano was phenomenal, and the scone was such a delightful ode to autumn flavors. It was quite large, super buttery and rich, and packed with maple and pecan flavor without being overly sweet. Come back in the evening and you'll stroll into what feels like a completely different restaurant. The coffee bar is transformed into a standard bar, and the ambient lighting, dark wooden furniture, and brick walls make the space feel incredibly cozy and intimate. Their dinner menu is quite pricey, but it's genuinely worth every penny. My friend promised that Elle had the "best vegetable he's ever tasted," and they absolutely delivered -- the roasted broccoli with sardines and parmesan was delightful. It was super simple, but I appreciated how well it let the natural flavor of each ingredient shine, and each component had plenty of its own flavor, with the parmesan and sardines offering a hit of salt, umami, and sight funkiness. We also got the grilled cucumber which, at first glance, seemed like such an odd menu item. After giving it a try, however, I'm now questioning why we don't always grill our cucumbers -- the cucumber was beautifully charred on the outside, and heat helped to bring out some of the vegetable's natural sweetness to counterbalance the smokiness from the grill. It was served on top of a bed of savory, tangy yogurt and with chopped hazelnuts, which offered a great crunch. I was most impressed by the skate; this fish is a rare find in DC, but they prepared with perfectly. It was super tender, which contrasted beautifully against the crispy, crunchy fried outer shell. The skate was topped with crispy onions and a savory, slightly spicy sauce, as well as swimming in a rich, incredibly umami broth. The skate may have been the single best thing I put in my mouth all year -- I'm going to be devastated when it falls out of season and rotates of the menu, but I'm also super excited to come back and sample Elle's next season of items.

The space is open and inviting, and they are very accommodating if you plan to sit and work for a while. The food and drinks really deliver. Their matcha was delightful, and the egg sandwich is an absolute must. It comes on a house-made potato roll that makes the whole thing feel extra comforting. I would highly recommend adding brisket. It takes the sandwich to another level. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. Even though it is a bit out of the way from downtown DC, I would definitely make the trip back.

This was the worst order experience I have ever had, and unbelievably, it's the second time my order has been wrong. At this point, it's not a mistake -- it's a pattern of incompetence. To make matters worse, when I called the store to discuss the issue, the staff member who answered was completely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Instead of trying to fix the problem or even listen, they hung up on me. That is unacceptable behavior for any business, let alone a national brand that claims to care about customer service. There is zero accountability here. No attention to accuracy, no respect for customers, and no basic professionalism. If a doughnut shop can't get a simple order right twice in a row -- and then treats customers like an inconvenience -- they don't deserve anyone's money. I have given this location more than enough chances, and I am done. I will not be making any future purchases from this store. Save yourself the frustration, wasted money, and disrespect. There are far better options in D.C. than this mess of a location.
