This was a great experience overall. The wait staff was AMAZING to our entire party. Lydia was assigned to our table and couldn't have been nicer to us. It was my daughters birthday and we decided to try ilima terrace for breakfast. The food was hot and delicious. The Loco Moco has a delicious local burger patty cooked to perfection! And the gravy wasn't too heavy but super delicious. They also offered us gluten free pancakes for one of us in the group who couldn't have wheat. They were great too! One of us also had the buffet and it was well stocked with fresh food and unique choices. It was really good and made even more special that Lydia made may daughters birthday very special by surprising her with a birthday "cake" muffin. First of all, everything is gonna be pricey. You're in a 5-star resort, so expect to pay more for everything including your morning coffee! Overlooking the pool and the beach, breakfast can't get any better than this! Depending on how hungry you are, you can get the breakfast buffet for $35/adult or $17/child, or order off the menu. We liked it here so much that we came twice during our stay! Local Boy - eggs any style, kimchi and portuguese sausage fried rice and green onion - I know rice sounds a bit heavy for breakfast but this is a must try! I recommend sharing this so you don't get so full from all the rice! Delicious kimchi flavors, its not spicy at all! Seared Ahi Benedict - Seared Ahi, wilted spinach, shiitake, on english muffin, topped with poached cage free eggs drizziled with a wasabi hollandaise sauce. This is not your typical Eggs Benedict! It's a fusion between Island and Asian flare! So good. Belgian Waffle - Mixed berries, maple syrup or coconut syrup - Very typical Belgain Waffle, but the mixed berries are particularly ripe and sweet! Get one to share! Since you're sitting in an open restaurant in nature, birds fly freely inside the restaurant. If you descend the stairs at the back of the lobby level in the Grand Hyatt, you'll find yourself at Ilima Terrace. We found ourselves here for five mornings in a row for breakfast as part of our hotel stay package. The food was buffet style and more than sufficient, service was outstanding as we became well acquainted with the staff, and the view each morning was grand enough to abolish any hint of morning grouchiness. With the breakfast package, just give your name and room number at the host stand and they will attempt to seat you with the best view possible, then you can go straight to the buffet. Service was outstanding with every visit as the servers address you by last name and actually get to know you and your preferences. Be forewarned that the birds on the terrace are as aggressive as the Denver Broncos defensive line on third and long. Pay attention, because there's no fear and they'll eat your food right in front of you. So make sure to cover your food with the provided covers if you happen to leave the table. The buffet is served from 6-11 and the food is solid, nothing mind blowing, but there's consistency. Your choices include sections with hot items, fresh fruit, breads, pancake/French toast, and a custom omelette station. There are one or two changes to the hot items each day, but for me, the freshly sliced fruit and the juices were a must every morning. Pricing for the buffet is $34 and if you have the package, you'll be given a check to sign off and add gratuity. If you decide to forgo the buffet, they have a regular menu for breakfast and lunch with expected elevated prices. If you're looking for something standard and not too flashy, I would recommend the breakfast at Ilima for the convenience of being on the resort, for the fresh fruit, and for the unbeatable view of the Pacific Ocean. read more

Five star service for sure. The staff were all super friendly and came by our seats frequently to check if we needed coffee or anything else to drink. Each time we came down for breakfast we were seated quickly and greeted by our waiter or waitress at the time. We had purchased the continental breakfast package and were glad we did. There was an extensive selection of food to choose from. They had an omelette station, pancakes, waffles, bacon, French toast, fresh juices, oatmeal, and lox. There was basically everything you can possibly think of and crave. We stayed there a week and practically ate something new each day. I will remember this breakfast buffet for years. With jet lag from the East Coast, we were really hungry on our first the morning, so we went for the full buffet. We thought that we would just get it once, but we keep coming back for more. There is a huge variety of food, and it rotates. Highlights include the juice bar, the kalua pork hash, the green olives, the bread pudding, the fresh papaya, and the potstickers/wontons/dumplings. The service is exceptional, especially toward my messy-eater baby. The ambience is also beautiful. White swans and koi swim in the pool near the tables, and there is a view of the ocean. Seems like they've updated it fairly recently, judging by reviews. Huge selection, one of the best breakfast buffets I've ever had (falling behind the Artemide in Rome and 4 Seasons on Maui). The fruit is fresh and delicious. Definitely a pricey treat, but well worth it to splurge once during your visit. We got seated right next to a koi pond with swans. ok, this place has probably the best hotel breakfast + the most STUNNING views. My fiance and I stayed at the Hyatt for a week in February and ate here every single morning. Ask to sit by the water- we always waited for a table by the water which is 100% worth it (plus we never waited more than 10 min!). The breakfast is a buffet and they have everything from custom omelettes, to waffles/pancakes, to bao buns, to fried rice, to corned beef hash, to eggs benedict, to bacon & sausage, to fruits & granola & pastries. Plus their fresh squeezed juices were out of this world delicious (& I never drink juice EVER). If you're a AAA member I believe there is a deal where you can get breakfast for free (we did this) which is an amazing deal because the buffet isn't cheap so that's a good trick. I also have to note that their service is OUTSTANDING. Every single staff member at the Hyatt was incredible but my fiance and I especially loved the staff at Ilima Terrace. Every day our waiter/waitress would chat with us and ask us about what we're doing that day plus give us tips about some local things going on that tourists otherwise may not know about. For $28/person, we had an awesome breakfast buffet and a live nature show. Lol, by live nature show I mean the ocean in the background and a landscaped koi pond in front of us. There was a swan on the edge of the outside patio, and a mischevious crane who begged for food and even stole food right off of plates! Matt B. loves hotel breakfast. He knows it's overpriced, and often not particularly good, but he loves breakfast food and he loves convenience. When we saw a sign in the hotel advertising Ilima Terrace, bearing a blown-up picture of a waffle topped with fruit, I knew we would be eating here, and that the pictured waffle would be his within a few days. It was a nice breakfast spot, owing primarily to a spectacular view of the ocean and hotel grounds. One side of the restaurant was just open, and our view was only obstructed by a couple luckier diners. We decided to go a la carte, as Matt just wanted his waffle and I wasn't tempted by the buffet options. Service was fast and friendly. The food was very average and very expensive, but not more so than we expected. I ordered the $19 crab asparagus omelet and it wasn't particularly good. The egg was fluffy, but it was also in kind of a dry flavorless blanket that needed plenty of help from ketchup and Tabasco. The asparagus and crab were fine but no better. The omelet came with sliced potato, cherry tomatoes, and a little strawberry and pineapple dusted with li hing mui powder. A balanced meal, I suppose. Matt's waffle was pretty decent, with fresh berries and butter and maple syrup. This breakfast set us back almost $50, and for that, I don't think we got much value that didn't derive from the setting (which was admittedly quite pleasant). If you get a breakfast package added to your room, the breakfast buffet is a GREAT DEAL. The breakfast buffet changes every day. There is a made-to-order omelet station, and a rather large spread of breakfast buffet items, each item is marked if gluten-free, there are vegetarian options, a large selection of fruit, cheese, smoked salmon, rice, miso, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, etc. What kept us going back every day (we were there 7 days), was the service. Elfie and Vallon - are in my opinion the BEST servers here. Every day they greeted us by name, came to chat with us, gave us recommendations for stuff to do around the island, and were just an overall JOY to see every day. The sun could be annoying, but we sat in the shadow of one of the columns so breakfast was actually enjoyable. Omelet station is great and I LOVE the egg benedict. There's a variety of juices and fruits that make it unique. But other than that, this is your pretty standard hotel breakfast, with a view. The breakfast buffet is indeed pricey ($30 pp) but when you get a package deal for the hotel and breakfast is included, it seems like a great deal! The place is gorgeous next to the koi pond, overlooking the ocean. They do have a bit of a bird "problem", but for my husband and I, the birds were actually a highlight. We thought it was a ton of fun to watch the cheeky sparrows and mynahs stalk around and try to snatch food off of unguarded plates, but we're the kind of people who are excited to see a toad hopping in a hotel hallway instead of freaking out over it. Omelet bar is great with a lot of topping choices, or you can just ask for a few eggs cooked to order. There are usually 2-3 main platters of fruit (pineapple, papaya, watermelon), but there's extra fruit garnish that a lot of people overlook! Pomegranate seeds are sprinkled on top, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but there's also longans and rambutans surrounding the rest of the fruit. I ate the rambutans -- but we noticed a lot of non-asian or non-foodie tourists ignore the more exotic fruit. I enjoyed the miso soup (with tofu and scallion garnishes you add on your own), the rotating hot dishes, smoked salmon (I made a smoked salmon cream cheese bagel one morning, with their supplied garnishes of onion and capers), and pastries. The bread pudding is REALLY good. It's very custardy. Get a bowlful, drizzle some of the hot coconut syrup on top, then go to the granola/yogurt area and sprinkle on some of the chopped macadamia nuts. While the wife was enjoying a spa session, I enjoyed a superb three course meal. Don't go to Ilma Terrace restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for dinner. It is a buffet for $54 per person. The buffet is terrible. There are very few choices, and they do not warn you it will be a buffet until you sit down. By then you are too embarrassed to get up and walk out. If you don't like prime rib you are stuck because the side dish potatoes were over cooked, the fish tasted kind of fishy and the salads were boring. There were definitely not enough choices, especially for $54 per person. The desserts were not even good. My family and I were very disappointed. read more

Their prices are very reasonable (compared to other hotels restaurants) for examples u could have a cocktail, burger, and dessert , tax and tip 40 to 50$ with beach front view. While i had a cocktail and sandwich the other day in 3 stars hotel for 56!!! and no the view wasn't good in the 3 stars hotel. Anyway, i asked to write "happy birthday" on my cake dish. Guess what they didn't charge me for the cake and they said it is a gift from them. I give them a good tip for doing this. Especially, I'm not staying at the Hyeatt hotel so they don't have to do it. I was hesitant about coming to a big name hotel like Hyatt for food (we were staying @ another resort) but wow, Hyatt....you nailed it with your Kauai location. Had the ahi crusted salad, ahi tuna burger, and two cocktails. The food was delicious & the cocktails were stiff but tasty. Beautiful view! After horseback riding down the road, my husband and I stopped by for a quick lunch. Our drinks were delicious- a guava mimosa for me and volcano for him. I have celiac disease and our server was so helpful in ensuring I could eat safely- I asked if I might be able to have the Fish and Prawn Salad with some alterations, and he confirmed that we could mix the wontons and switch out the dressing to make it gluten free. Was there for breakfast and while I was talking on the phone trying to book a tour, the waiter kept trying to shove me the bill and tried to talk to me over and over again when I waved at him telling him I am on the phone for something important. Is it to try to trick people into booking what they think would be a normal restaurant dinner and then last minute doing a bait and switch? The buffet dinner was not even mediocre- it was worse than that. I only ate white rice and a few pieces of corn. The crab was bad. The paella was disgusting. My wife and I had a late brunch at the buffet, and there are no words to describe how wonderful of an experience we had. There were several selections of food (everything from fresh pineapple spears to hot guava pancakes)! All of the food was very well prepared, and you could definitely taste the quality! The service was what won us over! Our server, I believe her name was Claire, was beyond exceptional! From the moment we sat down, to when we were leaving, she took excellent care of us. The minute that our drinks or plates were completed, she was there and ready to pick them up! She was also very knowledgeable with all of the food, and gave us excellent recommendations! We are vacationing in Kauai and restaurants are mostly full due to COVID restrictions and the surge of visitors to the island. We have visited the Grand Hyatt before and always thought it had incredible views and we have had good experiences in the past. We booked a dinner reservation at Illima Terrace and, upon being seated, were informed that the restaurant was serving a buffet only dinner for $79 per person. We are from San Francisco and are accustomed to expensive dinners so decided to stay and give it a try. We also had no other options to change course on such short notice. The meal consisted of crab, paella, rice, corn, salad, shrimp, mussels, and dessert. The seafood tasted bad and the other dishes were bad at best. It reminded me of food at a bad wedding which would be okay, but not at this price point. I also feel that it's very dishonest to advertise a dinner on open table and serve a high priced, cafeteria level meal. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I want to warn people from throwing their money away here. It's been a while since I felt like I'd been mugged by a restaurant. We had breakfast here almost every morning we stayed at the resort. Everything from the service and view to the food was INCREDIBLE! There is plenty of seating and we were lucky enough to get outdoor seating right next to the pond. You can choose between ordering off the breakfast menu or purchasing the buffet option which gives you access to an impressive selection of breakfast entrees (eggs, pancakes, waffles, various sausages, potatoes, etc), and omelette bar, fruit, pastries and various juices. I would definitely recommend trying the buffet. I'm pretty sure we ate our weight in Portuguese sausage and pineapple. No shame. Also, I'm not really a pancake or waffle person but the macadamia coconut syrup was so amazing, I needed up devouring at least 6 waffles. Again, no shame. read more

You also pay for the view which is very picturesque with a pond filled with swans and fish right next to you. Make sure to ask for a table near the pond :) The service is good, sometimes the waitress is busy so you might have to wait a little bit, but overall good service. The food here was also very good but I don't know if I would pay for the buffet if it wasn't included in my room rate. For that price I would rather order a la carte or just go somewhere else. If you're staying at the Hyatt you should eat here at least once, the quiet and beautiful definitely adds to the "vacation" tropical paradise feeling. Warning: Look out for the birds!!
